The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn started to reject the idea of the echoes being caused by a mental link, but then the whole scenario rushed through her head and made her cheeks burn even redder than Gawain's. Having people in her head was terrible by itself, but randomly sharing her thoughts to someone next door...
"If they ever get to that level I am camping out next door to the guidance counselor, comma risk or not." She shuddered at the though. "No, I'm pretty sure it's just touch... I mean, it didn't seem like they stayed on once I moved away, right? For now that seems to be the only on/off switch. But maybe I can train and control it more... I don't know... it hurts my head to consider it." The echoes picked up on the creak of someone walking down the hallway, and migrated back to Gawain. After thinking for a few more minutes, she fished for one of the blankets and pulled it around her.
"Do you hear them now?" She asked, waiting to gauge his reaction. It was weird learning about her powers without really knowing what they were doing. Gawain was really the guinea pig this time.

Evelyn was a bit overwhelmed by WereCat's sudden change of emotion. The questions weren't bad questions, necessarily, just a little surprising to hear all at once. The poke wouldn't really do much, unless the fur parted enough for their skin to touch. She wished she could see what was happening in WereCat's head instead of everyone just seeing in hers. She wanted to know how it worked probably as much as WereCat did, but she still couldn't quite recognize the signs of the information shifting.
"It was awhile back, I was checking on a friend of mine and his power change sort of sent off mine I think. And no it's not ghosts. They're the echoes. They're in my head. And last I checked no one hears anything other than what they're thinking to me." She tried explaining. Currently, they were chammering about WereCat and keeping track of her movements. she could feel them mentally following the feline mutant like little verbal radars.

At some point, Sam realized his slip up. She could tell by the muttering under his breath. But she couldn't really predict the dramatic response he had to the broken elevator. Ignoring each other was one thing, but trying to scramble out the emergency exit... The bitter reply slipped out her mouth before she could stop it.
"I see you're still abandoning people like normal." She snapped and simmered, glaring at the nearest wall. She didn't regret stabbing him now. Or ignoring him.

Job is getting a little more predictable, days are less long but my muse is still recovering. If I owe you posts, I swear I'm not avoiding you, just posting where I can find muse and wiggling my way to the rest in my spare time. If you are waiting for me for a specific plot or just are being held up by my lack of posting, don't be afraid to nudge still, but know I have the attention span of a squirrel right now. I keep seeing posts then getting dragged away and forgetting...
I lost track of what I was typing there. But yeah, busy, distracted, mostly just posting with Evelyn because her brain can be broken and sometimes it's easier to type with a character who is making no sense when your'e making now sense.

You know those "what would you do?" scenarios about being trapped in an elevator with someone you hate? Evelyn had heard a number of them, but never really considered how two people who avoided each other would ever end up in an elevator in the first place. Sure, maybe they had to go to the same floor, but one person could probably wait to get there. Or maybe someone was distracted and didn't realize who they were standing next to.
Or, in this case, maybe someone only had one good eye and apparently didn't look at his surroundings to know a white haired girl was already standing in said elevator before punching in his number and the door swung shut.
Evelyn probably could have bolted for the open door when she saw Sam coming, but that bordered on a level of immaturity she was trying to avoid. Ignoring the ice mutant for several months and pretending he was pretty much still dead... that was already pushing it. But that was the downfall of having a perfect memory. It was hard to forgive someone when you woke up reliving just how mad you felt towards them on a regular basis.
Evelyn was pretty sure Sam was avoiding her as well. It wasn't a huge mansion, and her will alone couldn't have kept their paths apart for THAT long. But there was a lot of bad blood between them, betrayal, lies, thrown words and angry yelling and stuff like that...
It all came to a stop right along with the elevator that trapped them somewhere in the lower levels of the mansion. At that point, the cussing under her breath probably would make him realize he wasn't alone in the metal box.

The anger in the room was palpable. Or maybe audible was a better sense to compare to with all the noise she heard from the echoes about it. Sam's emotions. Gawain's emotions. Doc Prof's stoic annoyance that the argument was in his infirmary. She heard Sam leave, and the distinct thud of a fist through a wall. Then again, maybe she didn't really hear the thud so much as the echoes talked about it. That was all she felt like she heard right now. Echoes. Endless mindless echoes.
"Thank you..." Evelyn whispered to Doc Prof before her and Gawain made their way out of the infirmary. She wasn't sure there was much to be said at this point. Everything already came out in their argument. Right now, it just felt like sleep was needed, and space.

The room felt colder, but Sam's words were even icier than the temperature. His anger pushed away hers, and all that was left was pain. Her shoulders slumped slightly, and she stared at the wall. The words just cut deeper into her and stuck there.
"Don’t pretend you’re the only one with bad memories. I’m sorry princess, I’m gonna make you relive something like that over and over again."
"You had a choice to say something, and you didn't. You had someone feed you lies and you believed them, and suffered because of what she did. True, you've had bad memories. And you still chose to put us through that. I don't care what rank we were, I trusted you. I believed in you. And you couldn't do the same." She pulled her legs close and shut her eyes. That couldn't block out the pain she was feeling though.

”I’m sorry you had to go through that Evee.”
The anger was spreading like acid. He was saying things but she didn't believe him. She couldn't even feel relieved he was alive, all she could feel was betrayal. She clenched her teeth and shut her eyes, trying to tune out the excuses. The reasoning. That's all there ever was. Reasoning. Echoes and facts and analysis and information. He was talking, but she didn't feel he was really sorry. She didn't feel guilt. She didn't feel like he really understood what he'd done. She tried to sit up, and Doc Prof quickly put out a hand to keep her down. She snarled over her shoulder instead.
"You're sorry I had to go through that. Tell that to me in two weeks. Tell that to me in two months, two years. I may have to go through that anytime I fall asleep, anytime I get injured. It won't go away, Sam. You may have your reasons, but don't expect to screw around with my head and expect me to be relieved it was all just part of the plan. It doesn't just go away. You can't just say my bad and scold us for trying to do something about it." The memories were pressing at the back of her thoughts, trying to push forward again. She stopped talking and tried to control her thoughts. She wasn't ready to fall back asleep quite yet.

Evelyn listened silently as Sam and Gawain exchanged words. Rage surfaced again as her thoughts cleared, and his logical explanation of what happened came out. Pretend to be dead to keep the mansion safe, that was his grand idea. And then it was their fault for taking on a killer they weren't prepared for. While it was true, they had been prepared for a fight, the end result was only half their fault. Hunting to identify a guy was one thing. The actual battle wasn't exactly the way they might have planned it.
She wanted to argue they could have handled it if they brought more throwing stars or had a better place to face the buy. Instead, her brain looped around the first part of the conversation she heard. And those thoughts lingered instead.
"You faked your death, and put everyone else through hell. What do you expect, everyone to just forgive and forget? Wait, some of us can't." The words were icy, angry, hurt. Doc Prof shushed her, and tried to keep her still to finish what he was doing. The pain in her head didn't seem to be going away though. All her emotions were just making it worse.

Head injuries and mental powers don't go well together.
Most of the events got fuzzy until they got back to the mansion. She could recognize the scent of the hospital wing, but drifted in and out of consciousness for a while until Doc Prof started healing her. The sudden intrusion of noise made her whimper and try to scoot away. There was already enough chaos in her head, she didn't want to deal with more sounds too.
”Oh, yeah…. I’m alive by the way.” [Sam's voice.] It couldn't be him. They said he was dead. That was what started this mess in the first place. She frowned, curiosity forcing her to settle and let her hearing come back all the way. There were flashes of Sam from the alleyway. Dead Leo. The cold. It felt like an hallucination, but the echoes were trying to convince her it was real. Why would they put her through that if he wasn't dead after all? She could feel Doc Prof's attention move to the wound on her head, which temporarily distracted her again. As her head healed, her mind started to think more clearly, moving things, sorting them, re-aligning time between the past and the present.
Sam was there. Gawain was there. She knew the voices. Her eyes opened slowly and verified it. Rather than feeling relieved, she just felt betrayed. She rolled over and faced away from the ice mutant. She wasn't ready to talk to him yet.

Evelyn felt the sai get pulled away, hardly aware she actually hit Sam with it. But the flicker of information was there. This wasn't just a ghost she was trying to scare away. There was a moment where she thought she could see him yelling at her. Then she shut her eyes tight and curled against Gawain. Her head hurt. She didn't want to be here anymore. She was confused and she just wanted the rest of the noise to go away. The echoes, the playbacks, the splashes of memory. She moved her hands from her head to her ears as if that would tune out the rest of the chaos. No luck. It was all in her head.
Except for Sam. He was cold and silent like the rest of reality. Even though he was angry.
She needed to sleep again. The playbacks were obviously confused. She was confused. She muttered under her breathe about her head hurting and wanting everything to shut up. She needed to think.

Evelyn wasn't certain when the playbacks shifted back to consciousness. In her memories, everything felt as vivid as the present. Frightening images of running and being attacked melted right into the sensation of opening her eyes, and seeing a dead mutant. Two dead mutants. There was Leo, who was discarded and the echoes were fairly certain he was near death or already dead. Then there was Sam. Who they knew was dead. Who they heard was dead.
Playbacks. It had to be playbacks still. She could feel someone holding her, but as CS approached, she was vaguely aware she had started flailing as the overlay of lingering memories and reality confused her. She was running through the city, chased by angry mutants. Sam's mouth was moving. Sam was dead. Could she see ghosts now? She couldn't remember ever having this memory before. It didn't make sense. Could make sense. She was falling...falling... thrown in one memory, on a griffon who forgot when he would turn back into a human in another...
She screamed and snatched the sai from the ground, lurching forward and stabbing at Sam's leg.
Memory...reality? It didn't matter. Sam was dead. And he was an ass who never should have died because they never should have had to deal with this.
She wasn't sure if she hit him, the yell melted into a pained whimper then a noise that sounded somewhat like a sob as she sank back to the pavement, releasing her weapon and holding her head. The blow to the head and the damage by Leon's mutation made her hysterical and unpredictable at best. She couldn't hear any comforting words, couldn't even hold onto her teammates voices to calm her down. She shut her eyes. It was cold. Reality had no noises, but her memories had plenty to fill the void.

"But they are not my echoes, are they" he muttered "They are still yours. It's like... I'm listening in a police broadcast, isn't it?"
Evelyn considered his question, then finally nodded. While she could exactly hear his end of things, his explanation seemed to make sense. It would sound different hearing echoes from her perspective verses having them from his. It was like taking a picture from two different viewpoints. "It would make sense. You saw my memories through the playback. Maybe you're just picking up the 'feed'." It seemed like a good way to describe it. She pushed her hair out of her face.
"Amplifying it sounds a little more forceful than whats happening though. Maybe it's more like it's creating a conduit. The information isn't lessening or changing in anyway when you're there. It's just sharing it with you." She considered.

Playing. Somehow that wasn't exactly reassuring when coming from a giant feline. Cats played with mice all the time. Didn't mean the mouse enjoyed it.
"Not really sure what to call it at this point. Pretty much, you just heard what I hear all the time. Not so fun having voices in your head I guess." Evelyn shrugged. The echoes continued chattering and filling her in on other details about her surroundings. Unlike WereCat, there was no off button for her. She just learned to adapt around it.
A few things happened at once: Evelyn recognized Sara, registering the general furry persona and familiar face which took a few moments in the darkness; she also recognized the look of shock that passed Sara's face. Then, there was the sensation of slight pain as the grip tightened. Yelping slightly, she finally was knocked away, watching as WereCat fell on her tail end.
Part of her wanted to laugh. But the other part winced slightly as she recognized what she was now considering an echo invasion. "Yeah, that's new..." She muttered and ran a hand through her hair. She took a step backwards, watching. WereCat was known to sort of...fly off the handle sometimes. It was hard to tell how she would respond to the invasion of information.
