The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"It's much less of a security threat unless you touch people randomly."
Evelyn still grimaced. "I work at a museum. A crowded museum. Where little kids randomly grab onto your arm asking for you to show you where the bathroom is or old ladies sometimes feel the need to pat you on the head for telling them where the right exhibit is. I can see it now...old lady dies from heart attack after the voices in the mutant employees head transfer via aggressive cheek pinching..." As much as the situation could be realistically horrifying, she couldn't help but giggle awkwardly then groan at what a terrible person she was for laughing in the first place.
"Missions could be easier if we get it down though. At least I wouldn't have to repeat all the echoes information to you. Although I would need to be right there with you for it to work. It would make clingy girlfriend have a whole new meaning."
The memories from the Danger Room made her smile though, and she relaxed against the hug, getting sleepier as the real stress settled for the more comical worse case scenarios. Laughing made it feel less dangerous at least. "I'd say that feels like a long time ago, but echoes... That is a memory I enjoy revisiting though." There was something sentimental about it, although it was strange to feel the emotions she had back then towards Mirror. She never would have guessed they'd end up dating.

Format events were the worst.
Evelyn grew up stuck in elite parties. Fancy dresses, powerful people, the whole 9 yards. And she hated every second of it. Rich and powerful people tended to fit pretty firmly into the whole "corrupt" stereotype. Plenty of cheating, plenty of blackmailing, and a whole lot of drama to go around. While discovering everyone's dirty little secrets could be fun, people tended to react badly if they realized it was happening. After getting yelled at enough times, she stopped enjoying the parties. She never thought leaving home and joining the x-men would drag her back to them though.
Evelyn was dressed in a longer black dress with a white sleeved jacket over top. The covering was transparent enough it wasn't too warm for the season, but at least it would keep her from randomly downloading echoes into someone's head if they bumped into her. She had gloves in her purse if she needed them, although there might be use for sharing the echoes sometime during this adventure. At least, it felt that way until she realized the other girl's abilities. Boosting powers by touch didn't seem to be good news when you were still stumbling through new abilities.
"Not to sound rude, but I'd rather not test what your powers would do at this point..." Evelyn remarked cautiously. She had someone suppress her powers once, and that did a number on her brain. Boosting them? That seemed potentially dangerous in other ways.

Evelyn fidgeted as Sam honed in on the trust issue. There wasn't really a way to deny that was how she felt. He experienced it himself, after all. It wasn't just her trust towards Sam that was damaged though. She talked to some things with Gawain when she thought Sam was dead that could probably be seen as a break in his trust of her now. She didn't say anything though. They would deal with that as time went on, in "baby steps" as he had said.
His explanation of her powers gave her a bit more to think about, but maybe not the answer she wanted. She really didn't want to just adapt to them. She wanted to be able to choose how much of her emotions someone saw. They were her memories, her thoughts, her feelings. They were annoying, true, but it felt like someone was invading her head every time the information transferred. The echoes were one thing, but when the playbacks started...
"Do you really think a breathing technique would help?" She sounded partway cynical, and partially hopeful. She went through the same back and forth with Mirror awhile back, but she still felt like she was hoping someone had the magic answer. Short of wearing gloves and turtlenecks, keeping her thoughts to herself was taking on new meaning. She flinched slightly at his last statement. The dent in the elevator proved Sam's "cool" had only lasted so far.

The echoes picked up on WereCat's approach about the same time Evelyn realized the water in the pool was OMGcoooolllddd! As she hunkered down in the shallows, chlorine leaving a sharp tang on her lips, she spotted the movement as the feline mutant approached. The echeos noted the sounds, and could piece together Sara's position, but nothing could quite make up for the lack of proper lighting. That was the only trouble with moving targets in the dark. Evelyn dealt with stationary things just fine, but it was hard to avoid someone who had better eyesight than you. She clutched her sai, staying still as Sara got closer.
When Sara got close enough, Evelyn planned to take a swipe at her legs and knock her off the fence. Stabbing was a little unnecessary at this point so she'd avoid that, but knocking the other girl into the pool was the objective one way or the other. The chlorine could hopefully provide a better cover for her scent, plus she was fairly certain Sara wouldn't appreciate the swim. Fur, water. That was logical to her.

Okay, so the mocking really wasn't called for. Evelyn glared at him, temporarily feeling less bad about breaking his head with her powers. Then he apologized, and the rage went away again. For once, he sounded sorry. He wasn't making excuses, wasn't trying to defend himself. She had wanted him to realize how much he hurt her, and in the process, she just put him through the same thing. She flinched at his words and picked at her shoe lace. She knew what he meant, and she did feel guilty for putting him through that. It just seemed things kept getting worse, not better.
"It can't stay like this, Sam. How on earth are we supposed to fight anyone when we can't even handle being on the same team anymore?" Her head hurt, but it was hard to tell if it was from the crying, the powers, or just the stress of it all. She wished the elevator would move. One or both of them was going to break something in here soon if they didn't get out.
"I'm...I'm sorry too. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I just got so frustrated because no one understands. I can't make it go away. I can't get rid of anything in my head, and now other people are going through those memories. I accidentally showed a blind kid the monster he was turning into... and now I did this... If I can't turn it off..." She didn't want to think about it. Suddenly what he put her through was looking a little pale in comparison.

Evelyn barely flinched when he punched the wall. She probably wouldn't have stopped him if he'd punched her. All the emotions that built up over the past few months had broken loose, unfortunately at him. She knew it wasn't necessarily fair to blame him for all of it, but she wasn't used to this experience. She wasn't used to loosing people. She still didn't feel ready for the battles and the protocols and all the pain that went with it. She stared at the other wall and hugged her knees. The air nipped at her exposed skin as the temperature dropped more.
"I can't promise that... we haven't exactly found the off switch yet. The echoes, the playbacks...Gawain gets an earful of them pretty much every time we come in contact." She shivered and pressed her back against the wall. "Just...stay over there." While it may not have been the best time to boss him around, the echoes could see the warning signs and how far she'd pushed Sam.
When Evelyn got to the pool, she really didn't stop to think, she just listened to the echoes and quickly slipped into the water. The smell of chlorine stung her nose, so she could only imagine how it might feel to WereCat. It was a long shot, but sometimes you had to start somewhere.
As WereCat's count down drew near the end, she scooted towards the shallows and pulled out her sai. While staying underwater might have helped a little so Sara could see her, it would have also offered a prime opportunity to get herself drowned. Even though she could swim, she didn't exactly practice enough to fight in the water.
Settling down low in the water she watched for WereCat's approach, weapons in hand. She did remember a thing or two about the girl, more specifically her healing ability, so there was a little more leeway there about what they could do without worrying one of them would get seriously injured in the processes. Evelyn on the other hand...well, they would deal with that later.

Blondie... Evelyn was pretty sure her hair had passed 'blonde' and was lingering somewhere around 'white', but she wasn't going to fight the nick-name, it only seemed to make it worse. The eye-roll was hard to resist though and she stuck out her tongue. "Not just thinking highly if it's true." Okay, maybe that sounded a bit smug, but Sara was the one prodding.
And then Sara started counting. Evelyn really didn't play games as a kid, so the concept of "hide-and-go-seek" was not her initial instinct. The echoes, as helpful as they were sometimes, went through a handful of suggestions before the right one popped up. By then, they were somewhere around 15, and Evelyn took off in a delayed run. While her powers made it easy to navigate in the dark, it would take a little effort to find a good hiding spot, and 15 seconds didn't let her get much distance. The first thing she had to do though was hide her scent. She decided to head towards the pool to start out with.

Evelyn felt her eyes narrow, and then her mouth curled slightly at one corner as a smirk tried to force it's way onto her face. "I've been training. I'm pretty sure you'd be surprised what I can do. Just because my mutation isn't of the more...offensive variety, doesn't mean I can't stand my ground in a fight. Especially out here in the dark." She crossed her arms in challenge and put her chin up.
"You wouldn't have caught me if I was trying to avoid you. I just don't like risking accidentally stabbing kids so I'm more cautious out here. You're quiet, but the echoes are still quick." Her pride was getting involved now, and Sara's attitude always seemed to rub her the wrong way. Evelyn was determined to never feel like a cat toy again.

Evelyn crossed her arms and huffed slightly, glaring at Sara. While they sort of worked things out, the relationship was still somewhat push/pull between them. That was mostly Evelyn's fault though. Having a perfect memory makes forgiving people a little difficult at times. When you relive memories of how people wronged you, it makes letting things go problematic.
"What are you doing sneaking up on people out here anyway? You're lucky I didn't stab you." She could feel her sai against her back, so the possibility was certainly there. Then again, she tried not to make the habit of randomly stabbing anyone on mansion grounds. While Doc Prof could probably stop it from causing any lasting damage, accidentally stabbing a kid wasn't really something you wanted to explain to anyone. Stabbing WereCat may be a bit easier to explain though...

"I can only count a handful of people; two officers, the priest that brought me back, Shin, Streak, Doc. Then there were three people that found out, a student, my ex, and Sara....It was a pretty small number.”
It still sounded far too large for her liking. It was even worse than just Shin and Streak knowing. She managed not to say anything this time though.
”I was clearly a target, no one else here right?”
"You didn't know that. There were other mutants that were attacked too, and that didn't stop them from attacking other people in the city." She had seen some of the results from at least one of those attacks and it hadn't been pretty. But bringing any of that stuff up would detract from the main argument: CS hiding everything from her and Mirror.
"[...]Not the first time I had a price on my head. I’m sure it won’t be the last. Next time I’ll be sure to tell you and Gawain though.”
Next time. She didn't care about next time, she cared about now. The issue wasn't the future or the past or when or where. It was what he did, and how it changed things now. She didn't want to hear what he was saying and she didn't want to hear his apologies.
”Only real family I got.”
Something in her snapped. She stepped forward, and it probably looked like she was going to hit him, but instead she grabbed his wrist and snarled. "Family? Friends? Family doesn't put people through this." Like a dam breaking, the playbacks rushed forward...and her grip ensured Sam would feel it too. The memories of his death played. It was more than just the images: the emotions, the pain, the fear, the rage. Everything. She was feeling her pain. Gawain's pain. Seeing the grief on everyone around her. Tracking the killer, facing him, losing to him. Trying to at least wound him, stop him, keep him from hurting others they cared about. Then there was the sense of betrayal, confusion, dealing with Sam being alive.
She let go, and staggered back to her side of the elevator before sitting and burying her face against her knees with a sob. But Leo was still there, smirking, victorious...She didn't have powers like her friends to fight, to do something. All she had were the echoes and the playbacks. They weren't good enough.

Evelyn momentarily considered taking the escape route. She didn't want to have this conversation anymore than Sam did, but there they were. Frickin' metal box forcing the topic to come back up. The exchange had loomed the longer she stayed angry though. This time, Sam wasn't yelling back though. It was cold, but she couldn't register if that was guilt, frustration, or something else. She dug her nails into her arms and gave him a withered look.
"You sure told enough people though. It wasn't just members of the team was it? So that argument doesn't work for me." She shook her head at the rest of his argument. "No one was safe thinking you were dead, Sam. How do you feel safe when someone who taught you how to fight was killed? I'm not going to fluff your ego, but you're not exactly a low level mutant. If you're dead, what chance do the rest of us have? How does that prepare us to fight the enemy? If anything, you put us in even more danger than if you'd said something!" She stepped closer, wanting to throw somethign at him, then hugged her arms back across her chest and glared at the elevator buttons. They blurred as her eyes watered unwillingly.
"It doesn't make me feel better you're alive, because our friendship is still dead. I can't trust you anymore. Maybe it's petty, but you don't feel it at night. You don't feel what it's like to know something out there killed your friend, and there is nothing you can do to stop them. Nothing you can do to stand in there way. It's more than just grief. It's fear. And I can't even keep it in my own head anymore." She hissed, rubbing her temples as if she could erase the images moving past.

Evelyn couldn't stop herself from frowning at Sam's response. Not the blonde thing, whatever, that wasn't a big deal. Guardian angel though? She knew a jailbreak when she saw one. The echoes were still pretty good at reading body language, and his said a lot.
Still upset I see. Worse than an ex-girlfriend."[/b][/color]
Evelyn's scowl darkened. "I'm pretty sure your x-girlfriends don't re-live the event once a month or so just to keep it fresh." She tried to bite her tongue, figuratively and literally, but somehow the works kept sneaking their way out. Hoever many months it had been, the hurt hadn't seemed to fade. In some ways, it just seemed like it got worse. "You know, I think the suckiest nights are the ones where I remember why we were friends in the first place. I can have the memory of the friend who saved my life then stabbed me in the back all in one shot." This was going nowhere good. She should have let him just climb out of the elevator. As the memories bubbled to the surface though, another risk presented itself. With her recent power growth, she was still unintentionally sharing her echoes and playbacks by touch. The last thing she wanted at this point was him to see what he put her through. She shut her eyes tightly, forgetting the argument and trying to think of anything else. All it really did was give her a splitting headache though.

Evelyn listened as Gawain talked about his own powers, and considered where her's seemed to fall. It wasn't really just an "On" sort of power that she'd seen; the instance with Sylar and this recent one weren't back to back, so there was a point they were "Off". But controlling that? Finding a way to make "off" available for longer? Those weren't questions anyone could answer for her. Sadly, time may be the only thing to reveal those answers.
"I mean, y're already in training. This is just kinda like a new addition to your to-do list..."
She closed her eyes, relaxing slightly and nodded. It would be a little more complicated throwing new powers in the mix, but not impossible. But the images of what could happen in the meantime suddenly raced through her head and she felt her shoulders tense right back up.
"What about other things, though? Sharing too much information with you is one thing, but what if I'm in the bank and the echoes start rattling off someone's personal information, or if I'm at work and they start... I can't control what they say. This could be a security issue if the wrong person can hear what's in my head..." She stopped herself, biting her lip and taking a deep breathe. It was too much to stress at once. She wasn't running to the bank anytime soon, and she wasn't exactly running around town in a bathing suit. The echoes momentarily considered that possibility and her face went an extra deep shade of crimson before she coughed and sent them back to counting the curtain hooks.
"We should train. Training is good." She decided, willing the connection with Gawain to sever, if nothing more than to keep the ever embarrassing scenarios from suddenly invading Gawain's head.

Even with the joke, Evelyn grimaced slightly and sighed. "It's not the echoes I'm worried about... A few voices here or there won't hurt anyone, but the playbacks... It's impossible to sleep as it is without worrying I'm going to drag someone through my memories with me. Maybe I could should stay back at the apartment for a little bit... until we know for sure." Not that she wanted to be away, but anyone around her risked turning into a guinea pig if things got worse.
"When other people's powers change... how long does it take for them to... I don't know... settle I guess? With the playbacks, they just sort of came one day and never went away after that... What about the rest of you? Do they just sort of... turn on and that's it?" She wasn't good at forming questions right now, but the echoes were also funneling a lot of information.
