The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn followed and stopped behind Sveta. The muttering made it pretty evident something was wrong even before she noted the branching hallway. Stepping forward, she shrugged off the girl's commanding tone, and looked at the situation. Noises from the party were muffled down here, and it made it hard to distinguish if there were other voices around as well.
Looking closely at the floor, the walls, she quickly crossed one of them off her list. "That direction goes towards storage rooms. Regularly used by the cooks. You can see flour and baking ingredients that got carried down on their clothing." She scanned the other corridors, considering. "My guess is off to the right. The materials seem a little different, new maybe. The rest of the building materials seem consistent, but my bet is they had to remodel slightly." She wondered if remodeling would include things like heavily armed guards or cameras. Sam seemed like he was betting on the former. Getting shot didn't sound particularly pleasant.
"With the party, they're probably already guarding pretty closely down here. Guests can wander off and get into areas they shouldn't. I doubt they would shoot first unless we actually see something, even if they're armed. My best suggestion is to just play dumb, and act fast." The echoes were humming, ready to take in more information. While it was useful, it also didn't feel quite as helpful when thinking about trying to get past guards.
Evelyn tried to ignore what was happening on the other end of the room, but the echoes weren't really great at that game. A slight glance caught sight of Gawain and CS in the middle of the crowd of girls, and it was hard to suppress the sensation of jealousy that rose. Just a mission. Just an act. She reminded herself as she tried to smile back at the guy in front of her. She was secretly glad when she could pull away from in all in search for her "friend". She looked worried, realistically so, although part of that was concern that she would let her jealousy get the best of her.
I'm going to kill Sam after this... She thought irritably. Mission or not, she had some guesses that the flirting plan was all his.
Crossing the corner, she found Sveta in front of a now unconcious guest. She couldn't resist the slight smirk that crossed her face at the sight. "Looks like you're having fun..." She commented.

Hey guys, sorry I'm sort of AWOL right now. It's...been a long week, to say the least, and I just haven't been up to posting right now. RL has a lot going on right now, good and bad, and I am just trying to deal with it. I'm hoping this weekend helps with my mood and stuff, and I'll get back to posting as soon as possible. I appreciate your patience in the meantime.
Evelyn saw the tail twitch, and the echoes quickly clued in on what was happening. Her options were rather limited at the moment, and the water was slowing her down, which was a hindrance at this point. The best she could really do was duck and scramble for the stairs, WereCat barely missing her. She also took a swat at the passing cat, trying to make contact with the girls' face. Less of a physical threat, more of an attempt to share echoes as a distraction.
Making a scramble for the stairs, she waiting to duck again. WereCat was faster, but the echoes at least gave her a warning of the other girl's actions. She needed to get some distance though... That meant doing something to slow the girl down. She wasn't sure the pool was going to cut it, but didn't have much time to think of a solution.
I have Tses, Ryden and Evelyn. Only Evelyn's met Syn I think. Ryden really needs threads though, and he is unaffiliated so could be interesting to see someone from the sanctuary try to talk with him. Err, try to talk with him. Considering all the things breaking while he does it.

Evelyn wouldn't admit it, but she was relieved Sveta was taking the lead. She never was really great at flirting with people. She tended to have...unpredictable reactions to things the echoes pointed out. It was one thing to sort of guess what a guy was thinking, but having the echoes there pointing out exactly what they were staring at... Well, dates didn't always go well in the past. She sipped her drink and let Sveta get to work.
It didn't take long before the other girl got one of the guys attention, and it quickly developed while Evelyn tried to make small talk with a different guy. Then, after Sveta moved away, she waited for a second before looking that direction, and then played the concerned friend, quickly following them.
Although, to be truthful, the concern on her face was probably about being left alone with the drunk idiots than whether Sveta was really in trouble or not. She hadn't slapped anyone yet, but the night was young. There was still time.

Evelyn gave up arguing. In her mind, she had chosen a tactic that worked, so it felt silly he was arguing towards something else. This whole idea was silly. A pinecone wasn't going to teach her self-defense in her eyes. She just bit her lip and let him talk though. Her pride was already injured at this point and she didn't want to spend the rest of the evening arguing. Especially not while barefoot. She was cold, and irritated, and probably not listening the best right now.
And training with a four year old seemed even more ridiculous.
"Fine. I'll watch your show. I still don't think it'll help though." She muttered under her breathe. She just hoped it wasn't a dumb show. She avoided television for a reason. The last thing she wanted was to be seeing a terrible t.v. episode for the rest of her life. Over and over and over..

The echoes didn't have much warning something was wrong until Carrick started changing. The feathers, and the squawk all seemed to be danger alerts, but Evelyn had no way to deal with them. She was up in the air, hanging onto a creature who was giving the type of warning signs a smoking airplane would.
She was doomed.
"Carrick..." She squeaked, looking for something to hold onto. She frantically looked before her, the echoes calculating chances of survival depending on where she fell.

Evelyn listened, trying to shake off the feeling of helplessness that was growing. Guilt rolled over her, and she hugged her arms across her chest, staring at the ground. She couldn't lie to him, not after he'd seen what he had. But she desperately wished the things he was saying weren't so true.
"There just...has to be another way. No matter what's happened, you're still you. And until that stops being true, I don't want to hurt you." She wanted to promise it would never happen. That even if he was a monster, she wouldn't hurt him. But if that time came, she knew the instinct to survive could overcome even the desire to protect a friend. If he some day turned into a monster, she might have to defend herself. Whether it would be enough...
Today wasn't that day though, and instead, she wanted to stop things before they ever got that far. There had to be an option. Training, or something. She would find it.
In the meantime, she let herself walk towards the street to get a cab home, shooting one last look his way. As it was, things would only get worse hanging around. She just wished that weren't true. Whatever happened with her powers, she couldn't even try to comfort him without making it worse.

Evelyn sighed, but didn't argue. Getting into the technicalities of powers and control didn't seem like the best idea right now. In her experience though, some powers just couldn't be controlled, brains or not. Practice couldn't convince an adapted to be able to control their field, or an undead mutant to suddenly be alive again. Practice couldn't fix all problems. It certainly never really "fixed" the playbacks. Still no dreams, still no off switch. She was doomed to be an insomniac at least in that respect. She shook it off and reached for his hand, trying not to shiver. Just because it was for the best didn't mean it wasn't freakin' cold.
"Remind me to take the stairs next time." Evelyn grumbled. At this point, she just wanted to go back to her room and rest.

Close wasn't quite good enough in this situation. Not only was she unable to get WereCat in the water, the feline snatched out for the sai instead. Luckily, she had trained a bit to avoid loosing her weapon that way, and instead, scrambled backwards, and used a childish technique of evasion known as...splashing. She aimed for the face, intent on making Sara share the water one way or the other.
Meanwhile, she looped one sai back in it's holder on her back and waited for an opening to get out of the pool. It was turning into a detriment more than a help rapidly.

As they walked, Evelyn took inventory of the other guests, sorting them and tracking at the same time. It was like playing cards. Different ranks, different categories, each combination bringing different results. Like a game, she was searching for the right combination that work give them what they needed. All it took was focus. Which was easy, so long as she didn't let herself get distracted by the girls Sam and Gawain were approaching. She forced herself not to look back and filtered Sveta's suggestions.
"Well, it looks like there are about 21 snobby brat candidates, 16 moderately drunk, but only about four with no girls attached. I'm pretty sure one of those is here with his boyfriend though..." She noted. She blinked and considered the other question. "Talent? Err... currently I think it's somewhere between being really smart and having contagious voices in my head...a bit of a long story." She chuckled, although there was an underlying seriousness to the second part.

As they made their way into the party, Evelyn was still processing the possibilities the power boosting presented. While Sam might have more predictable results, she was also slightly curious about what it would do to Mirror. Not that she wanted to test it, necessarily, but how would someone boost gender shifting? She shook it off and slipped her gloves on as they moved into the party.
Once inside, she could see Sveta considering her slightly. It was times like these she was glad she wasn't telepathic. While the echoes could tell someone was sizing her up, it was always better not to know exactly how they were doing that. She wondered how much Sam had told the girl. Clearly there was a slight level of trust between the two, but there was also the push/pull relationship of tension Sam seemed to create with all things female. For the sake of the mission, she would play nice, but she wasn't sure she was going to like this.
"Let's go make some friends."
"At this place? What's your pick: corrupt politician or snobby brat?" She rolled her eyes as she let Sveta lead though, taking a sip of the drink. Goodness knows she would want a better one by the end of the evening. "Or there are some cheating husbands if you feel like a gold digger..." The echoes skimmed the room, marking targets, sorting everyone into categories in case she had someone specific in mind.

This time Evelyn couldn't resist rolling her eyes. While she could see training to get more physically skilled, training her brain seemed like one of the last things she really needed to do. There was so much information there already. With the echoes, the playbacks, and just the speed she tended to think..."I just don't feel like my brain is the problem. I've just always had mental powers, and they've always been...elusive. It's like trying to train a cat. In the end, my powers still do what they want, I can only cox them towards more desired results... With the echoes, it's like going 'hey, this information is shinier! Look over here!'." She let her head fall back and lightly thump the back of the elevator.
"I just... want to be prepared for the worse case scenario, I guess. I want to believe I can get a grip on it, but from experience, my powers don't deal well with switching on and off. Maybe just staying 'on' is like, a safety mechanism. Otherwise stuff just gets bottled up and explodes eventually..."[/color] She shrugged, letting it go for now. This didn't feel like the time or place to discuss the mechanics of her powers. The echoes considered ways to get out of the elevator in the meantime. Even if she got mad at Sam for it at first, the escape hatch was looking like the better option.
"Maybe you should go ahead and try the hatch again... I'm pretty sure your powers have a better shot of getting you to the next door than mine do." She stayed in her corner. At least if he left she wouldn't share any more echoes or playbacks.

Evelyn could hear Sara approaching, but knew she had to wait until the right moment to act. Too soon and she would just give herself away, too late and she would just get plucked out of the water like a fish. Cat, fish. Heh.
Then Sara was there. In a flash, the sai stabbed forward, as Evelyn tried to hook WereCat by the leg. Her intention was to knock the girl into the water, but in the dark there was the distinct risk of accidentally just stabbing her instead. Not that she really wanted to stab her new teammate, but hey, training somethings brought injuries. And they were "training" now.
If the sai failed, her next goal was to make skin contact again, and possibly overwhelm Sara with the information in her head.
