The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Since the opening of the New York State Detention Center for Dangerous Mutants, shortly after the passing of the Mutant Registration Act, there had been little media coverage of the “camps” that were springing up around the country. Under pressure from the government, the media spent months portraying mutant crimes and trying to paint a picture of mutants as villains, law breakers, thieves, terrorists, and murders in the minds of the masses. People knew about the camps, but most of the everyday people thought that the mutants who had been placed there deserved what they got.
The mass outbreak at the New York facility changed things. It was exciting, it was a change from the monotony of Mutants Vandalism: Liberty Attacked! and Mona Lisa Stolen: Authorities Suspect Mutant Activity. Some of the media continued on in the same vein, by portraying the extreme violence of the attacks by the mutants. Others noticed that not all of the mutants fleeing from the scene of the camps were even adults, and began asking why. Then, someone leaked security footage from cameras in the camps showing some of the horrors mutants endured in the camps.
The gears had begun to move.
Approval ratings dropped for politicians who originally supported the bill. Capital hill was abuzz yet again about mutant rights issues. Congress members were hounded by mutant haters and mutant supporters alike, but this time around there were far fewer lobbyists from the Church of Humanity. Some senators received influential visitors, who were able to convince them to avidly support mutant rights. In some cases, Senators and members of the House of Representatives changed their minds one hundred and eighty degrees from their original views, losing the trust of some of their constituents.
The most important gears, however, were moving in the judicial branch of the government. A case, known as Erickson vs. the State of California had been moving up through the courts, and had finally reached the Supreme Court. The case involved a nineteen year old girl who hadn't realized she was a mutant and had lost control of her rather explosive powers. No one had been hurt, but the girl had been captured by a Stalker robot and imprisoned in the Northern California State Detention Center for Dangerous Mutants. The girl's parents sued the state for violating the 1st section of the 14th amendment and the 4th amendment, by depriving the girl of her liberty without due process of the law and without probable cause. She also had not received a speedy public trial, nor had she even been confronted with the charges against her, in violation of the 6th amendment. The 8th amendment was also involved in the case, as the camp in California, like most of the mutant camps, had used cruel and unusual punishment.
A few months ago, the Supreme Court would not have even considered hearing the Erickson case [Erickson v. California, 553 U.S. 580 (2008)], but one of the nine justices had mysteriously died of a supposed heart failure on Easter Sunday, and had a closed casket funeral. His replacement was considerably more progressive. Another justice had completely changed his mind about his views on mutants around the same time and had added his voice to the support of mutant rights. The balance of justice had tipped in mutant's favor.
Three weeks after the outbreak from the New York facility, all eyes were watching the Erickson case, listening for the final decision of the Court. The court had decided, by a vote of 6 to 3, that the Mutant Registration Act was unconstitutional, thereby revoking the law. Every screen in Mondragon Labs was tuned in on the evening of the live announcement of the Supreme Court's decision. As soon as the verdict had been read, the Labs erupted into spontaneous cheers.
The next day, a fleet of coach buses pulled up in front of Mondragon Labs, ready to take all the mutant refugees back to their homes at Xavier's Sister School, the Sanctuary, or other various locations around New York City. After months of living in the Labs or struggling to survive in the camps, everyone was glad to finally be going home.

As you may have noticed, members of our three factions now have logos signifying which group they belong to. Aside from changing member groups (aka making the names gray, red, or blue), which only Lady J can do, we have come up with logos that we can give to members of each of the factions that any mod can add. These are the logos:
Xmen/ Mansion Residents:
The Order:
The Kabal:
If I have made an error in assigning your logo, please PM me and I will have it fixed ASAP.
It is now June, which means a new round of people who need congratulating for their MRO joinmonth! Congratulations to Ted and Hunter, who have both been on the site for a year!
*Celebrations* *confetti* *presents*
As usual, feel free to leave messages, pictures, songs, links, and other presents for our fanged and furry friends from the UK.

RULE 14. Be polite and respectful in posts, PMs, and the cbox at all times. Out of character that is, the characters themselves probably won’t always be polite and respectful, but you, their players should be.
What does that mean exactly?:
CBOX The cbox is our chat box, located at the bottom of every page. It reads bottom to top and the auto-refresh sometimes breaks, but we love it anyway. It is a place for people to hang out and chat with all the MRO friends we have made all around the world. For the most part, people chat OOC (out of character), as their normal selves, sometimes they chat IC (in character) just for fun. Essentially it is pretty easy going and we would like to keep it that way.
* Please choose a name to represent yourself in the cbox. We've got lots of new people filtering through so "newb," "newbie," or "new person" are not very helpful. We want to get to know you! So choose a name, preferably your character's name, and get chatting.
* At all times, please follow the golden rule: treat others as you would like to be treated.
* Under no circumstances will imitating other players be allowed.
* No criticizing others beliefs or lifestyles. In general it is good to avoid said subjects, but if you think that you're capable of talking about them without taking offense or giving offense then that's fine. However, if someone requests the conversation end please do so.
* No racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexuality, ability/ disability based comments or jokes.
* Try to keep cursing to a minimum, definitely no cursing at one another.
* No arguing in the cbox, if there is an actual problem please work things out through PMs or contact a mod.
* Remember that it is more difficult to detect sarcasm in a typed sentence than it is in spoken words. People on the other end of your comments cannot necessarily tell what tone you intended. Consider how other people might interpret your words before you hit the “send” button.
TBOX (CHATANGO) We recommend registering a Tbox account, but you don’t have to. If you don’t register, please post on the Tbox under your character’s name, just like in the Cbox. If you do register, we understand if your character’s name is already taken; please just put a “player of...” note on your Tbox profile, so people can hover their mouse to figure out who you are. Anything goes for your profile image, so long as it’s tasteful and safe for work. Please do not change the font style, color, size, or the default background color/image. This is to keep things looking both pretty and readable for everyone. All other Cbox rules apply. Thank you, and enjoy the backup box.
POSTS OOC messages included in posts should follow the same guidelines for behavior as in the cbox.
IC messages... well... not everyone in the MRO universe can be an upstanding citizen full of moral decency, with a fully developed code of ethics and perfect manners. It is perfectly understandable if your character is a complete jerk or likes to rip tails off of perfectly harmless kittens.
Please don't take offense to what others say and do IC. If their character is rude to yours IC, feel free to retaliate IC. Do not get upset OOC at something someone said IC, this is all part of the game. Keep the IC and OOC separate please.
It's good form to take turns posting; ie, if Players A, B, and C are threading together, the threading order should go A-B-C-A-B-C unless there's mutual permission to change things up. If Player C drops inactive, and Players A and B wish to keep the thread going, wait a few days. If the inactive player has been logging in, try catching them on the Cbox or sending them a PM: they may not realize it's their turn. If they haven't logged in or aren't responding to PMs, it's all right to start skipping their turns after 5-7 days. Sometimes this is necessary, to keep threads moving. Just make sure not to God Mod their character while they're gone: the best etiquette is to simply not mention what the absent player's character is doing, or to take the thread to a new location and leave their character behind.
If you know you're going to be absent from MRO for a few days, please alert your current RP partners, and tell them your preferences: is it all right if they skip your turn while you're gone? Would you rather they waited until you came back? Talk things out with them before you take your break. Make sure to post up a note on the Damn! I have to leave MRO!! thread, as well, to make sure other players, and the Moderators, know you'll be gone.
PMS Also known as personal messages. These are essentially like emails that are sent through the MRO site from other member to member. These are private messages and this is a good place to work out issues with another member. Solve your arguments, don't continue arguments in PMs. Even if you are having a problem, please be respectful and polite in your PMs.
----------------
Remember, there are always mods available for mediation. We'd be more than glad to help people work through any issues that crop up in an effort to make MRO as pleasant as possible for all.
Repeated rudeness will result in warnings, continued rudeness after warnings will result in suspensions and/ or banning.
POLLS If you own multiple accounts, you should only vote in polls using one of them. Just because you have been around long enough to have additional characters doesn't mean that your opinion is more important than those who only have one account. No one will catch you, but that doesn't make it right.
JOINING THREADS People often use tags in the title of the thread to indicate whether they want people to join a thread.
*These types of tags generally mean you should not join: (Private) (Closed) (Solo) (Planned) (Attn: Lee).
*These types of tags generally mean it is okay to join in: (Open) (Attn: Lee, open) (public)
*If they haven't marked the thread with a tag, read about what is happening in the thread before posting. Does it seem like a personal thread or one that people could join? If you are unsure as to whether you should join a thread: PM the person who started the thread asking if it is okay to post there.

These will be the main plot threads leading up to and including the camp breakout.
Round 0: Spreading the good news
Start date: May 14 (or as soon as people are ready) Description: Infiltrators prepare the camp for the raid. A date is decided. Hunter tells Syn, Syn tells Sonya, Sonya/Teressa tells Rupert and Rupert tells Neena OR Sonya/Doug tells WereCat. Anyway, that all happens off camera and this thread picks up at a secret meeting of the inmates called by Neena. Fighting opportunities: None Participants: Camp inmates and infiltrators only (includes Sonya, Rupert, Neena, others)
Round 1: Air force
Start date: May 22 Description: Several resistance members will be air dropped into an area near the camps and will engage the Stalkers in battle, drawing Stalkers and attention away from where the inmates are. Special fancy weapons will be used. Anyone who has heard rumors of the breakout may also show up here. Fighting opportunities: Stalkers only, but lots of them Weapons: TBA Participants: Resistance members (includes Hunter, Abyss, and Nox, others) will be dropped by plane, others may arrive separately and join the fight
Round 2: Ground force
Start date: May 23 Description: Once the Stalkers are sufficiently distracted, the resistance members in the ground force will arrive in armored personnel carriers carrying their own fancy weaponry, including extra guns to deliver to camp inmates who want them. They break in, free their friends, and break out again. Guards will try to prevent all of this from happening, except for the ones who are chicken and run away. Some Stalkers will realize what is happening and return to the camps to try and round up the prisoners again. (Someone will help the inmates who cannot fight escape into the armored vehicles.) People who hear about the breakout through rumors on the street/ internet may also show up here and join in the fight. Fighting opportunities: NPC guards, some Stalkers will split off the other battle to attack in the camps as well Weapons: TBA (resistance members will deliver some weapons to camp inmates) NPC guard kill limit: TBA Participants: Resistance members, camp inmates, camp infiltrators (includes ?)
Round 3: Retreat
Start date: TBA (To be announced) Description: As soon as most of the Stalkers are disabled and the guards have been taught their lesson, everyone will escape in the armored cars. Afterwards, anti-stalker missiles filled with technology-destroying-nanobots will be fired at the camps to take care of any Stalkers that were missed. (They do not harm humans or mutants, so anyone left at the camps by accident or design will be safe.) Fighting opportunities: None (we are retreating) Participants: Resistance members and camp inmates
Afterwards: The armored cars will return to Mondragon Labs, where everyone who needs medical attention will be patched up in the infirmary (unless they are so bad off that Dr. Ingram needs to do the patch up job. Hopefully that won't happen. We don't need anymore undead running around.) When everyone is healed and the law has been revoked, everyone will be brought back to their various homes. (IC people will spend approx. a week at the Labs. You can spend time Rping at the labs if you like. OOC the return to homes can happen immediately after the retreat thread.)
---------------
Resistance members only: Please post below whether you'd like to be involved in the air force or the ground force (Round 1 or 2).
Non-resistance/ non-camp inmate type peoples: Please post whether you will be involved in Round 1 or 2. Note: If you are not in the resistance we don't have an airplane ticket or a weapon for you in the air force (Round 1) if you want a fancy gun, we will have extras in the ground force (Round 2).
Camp inmates only: You will be in round 2, which takes place in the camps.
The camp breakout thread will begin May 22. (Hooray, right?) -- Rules for the camp breakout thread:
The breakout will be set up with one main thread that folks can post in once per day.
If anyone wants to break off into their own super-active side thread off in their own little corner of the camp, that is fine too (just leave a link back to the main thread!).
Go ahead and start figuring out your final breakout plans!
Happy May! The month to be gay! Tralalalala! *dances off*
Anyways, this month we celebrate Calley, Zephyr, Gore, and Cassiel who all joined one year ago! A special round of applause to Emerald, who has been here 2 years this month!
(Also, Fade: IOU one join month picture. I just need photoshop access for, like, 5 minutes.)
