The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mariusz wandered among the cars. He was no expert on automobiles, but even he could tell that some of them had clearly seen better days. "Yes, I know not everyone can fly," the Czech man said, shrugging his shoulders. "I do not mean to play the part of the braggart. I merely mean to state that I know very little about cars because I have never had much of a need to use or understand them. Obviously, I am somewhat in the minority in this case." He wandered a bit more among the vehicles. Some were clearly nicer than others, and as he wandered he pondered since it was clear that Jacob was somewhat troubled by the state of some of the cars.
"Perhaps you could offer to teach a sort of after school club or something about vehicle maintenance and repair," Mariusz suggested, turning to face Jacob. "If you volunteered your time I would imagine that the school would foot the bill for the parts and the benefit to the student body and their vehicles would be readily apparent in some cases. Maybe you could also talk to someone that teaches art and co-plan some things with them for vehicle painting and decorating too." The Czech man shrugged again. "It is just a thought."
"Well, there is still the matter of our little friend down there," Mariusz said, pointing with his hand. "Three o'clock, low." Down below the Minotaur could still see them and still had the arrow buried in its hand and, judging from the earsplitting bellow it unleashed as it looked skyward it was still anything but happy. "I imagine he might still be a bit unhappy," the avian mutant remarked in a somewhat dry tone.
He circled in the sky until he was in a better position for Maya to shoot, skimming just above the treetops. Coming up for a good head-on shot he beat his large wings down several times to bring them to a stop, hovering in the air more or less level. "At your leisure, I doubt there is much he can do to us from down there."
I had an idea for a direction to take Talon in and since it might affect and would be affected by the Riot Plot I figured it would be a good idea to run it by Roach and get his opinion. He suggested I run it by the board to get input as well.
At this point Talon hasn't seen the video that's sparked all the hullabaloo. My thinking was that he see's the video and then is convinced by various third parties to run for Mayor of New York on a pro-Mutant Rights platform.
Obviously, he'd need to get his U.S. Citizenship IC to be able to do that, on top of a host of other things. My minor's in Poli Sci, so I know a thing or two about the political game, and it makes sense with Talon's backstory growing up in a political family.
On several levels it makes sense for the character. He's got a background growing up in and around politics so he understands the way the game is played. After all, politics is about the same no matter where you're from. He's also strongly in the lawful good camp, so he'd be motivated to achieve change from a legal standpoint. Since the riot plot will, probably, paint mutants negatively in the public eye he might also see it as his duty to disprove that image.
So, it makes sense in my head anyway and several thread ideas started coming to mind. Threads involving studying for the citizenship test, taking that test, launching and running a campaign (which would involve events at Xilx's bar if she was willing), campaign speeches, debates, and so on and so forth. There's a lot that can be done with it, considering the election's not until November.
Obviously, it's something that would affect the whole board so it was suggested to run it by the players and such for discussion. The affect to the board would be greater if he were to win the election.
I also want to stress that I do NOT care one way or the other if he wins the election if he runs. I really don't. I won't get all huffy and storm off in a pouty huff. As someone with a minor in Poli Sci I know how hard it is to run a successful Independent campaign in the political realm. Yes, it's possible to win it's also VERY possible to LOSE.
I'd like to do the plot regardless of whether or not the mods/board say he can win the election. There's a lot of threads and fun in it, I think. Thoughts?
I'd like to start some of the legwork for it soon. There's a lot of background and set-up stuff that would need to be done in order for a plot like this to be believable. It's also very possible to start in on some of that background now and then, if the idea's not well received it can easily be written in that he simply decides not to run for it, for one reason or another.
How many people would be interested in a Mutant Dodgeball thread? I've done a thread like that before on another X-Men board and it was a lot of fun. When we did it on the other board we used the Danger Room to host the game.
I was thinking that to get the most people involved here on MRO we could play the game using the whole of Central Park as the playing field which would allow for the greatest involvement by everyone.
Mariusz accepted the business card from Jacob and, for the time being, tucked it into his quiver of arrows since he didn't have any readily available pockets on his current attire. "I do not actually have a car myself," the Czech man said, looking around the well lit garage and noticing several vehicles of various makes and models and in various states of age and repair. "I have never had much use for one since I can fly wherever I need to go, and the places I cannot fly to I have to reach by plane or train."
"I will be sure to pass on the message to those who have vehicles though," Mariusz said, walking a bit further into the garage. "I have not visited this area of the Mansion before today. Learning new things about this place all the time. Regan, do you know who all these belong to?"
"Well, I must confess that I am not a very big fan of clubs and loud noise for the sake of loud noise," Mariusz replied, shrugging his shoulders slightly and thought on the best way to put what he was interested in without sounding rude. "I enjoy hockey and would like to go see an Islanders game, but I do not know where they play. Of course the museums and historical sites and things are also quite fun." He trailed off for a moment to turn his attention to a particularly strong gust of wind which threatened to knock him into Juka's bubble. After a moment he regained control and resumed floating in the air.
"I have already been down along Fifth Avenue. That was very interesting. I saw the Cathedral and did some shopping. I went to this place called 'Build-a-Bear'. Have you been there," Mariusz asked, hovering a little bit closer to Juka as he mentioned the shop. "It was really quite fun to build-a-bear. I also had something called a hot dog. It was a bit strange, but still tasty. A bit like a very odd sausage."
"It certainly can be," Mariusz replied, sipping on his beer. He listened patiently as the bartender explained what her own mutant powers and abilities were. There was no hockey game readily available to watch and the Czech man had no real interest in the other sports that were on so conversing with the bartender was as good a way as any to pass the time. When she mentioned her ability to turn water into wine the feathered man nodded his head slightly. That would obviously be a most advantageous power for someone that owned and operated a bar.
"It is good that those that would seek to engage in prejudicial acts of vigilantism or hate crimes know enough to leave your establishment alone. Personally, I cannot see any reason why someone might have a problem with this place. A bar by any other name can still be drank in," Mariusz said, quoting Shakespeare but modifying the line just a little bit. "So, is there only one kind of wine you can access with your abilities or can you turn any water into any kind of wine?"
"I have a request, and also a few questions," Mariusz admitted, standing up a bit straighter from his position where he had been leaning against the wall while placing a hand on the bow slung over his shoulder to make sure it didn't rattle and clatter against the wall when he stood up. "I am Mariusz Kasparek," the Czech man said, bowing slightly. As he had yet to make the acquaintance of the man in who's office they were all standing it was only proper that introductions be made first. "This is Jacob," he continued, gesturing to the big man, "and this is Sophia." With the introductions having been made it would now be alright to launch into what he was doing in the office in the first place. "I am here for a few reasons. First, I seem to have locked myself out of my room here. I thought I had my keys in my pocket when I went to work out, but it seems I was rather badly mistaken. I can assure you I am not given to roaming the grounds and Mansion with a weapon on my person, beyond those weapons that are attached to my body."
"It also seems to me that you are likely to be someone in authority here at the Mansion. I have been thinking on it for sometime, and I would like to offer my services as an instructor for the school. However, I am not sure who I would need to talk to about such things. I was rather hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction to begin working towards that," Mariusz said. While he was also in the process of working on becoming an X-Man he was given to understand that was a largely behind the scenes kind of role here and he also wanted to be involved with doing something that would have a bit more of a public face on the fact that he was doing something to pull his own weight around the Mansion instead of freeloading.
"I suppose Maya might be someone we could ask our questions of," the feathered man said as they moved from the office back out into the Mansion proper. Truthfully, he wasn't altogether sure that Maya had anything to do with the school itself, but it stood to reason to him that she would probably know a thing or two about the Mansion and its operation since he assumed she had to be a member of the X-Men and the Czech mutant also knew that she would know about the Danger Room which made sense as she had been using it when he had run into her in the first place.
"I confess though, I would not know the first thing about where to find her at the present," he continued. "Regan, you have lived here in the Mansion a bit longer than I have. I think you would make a much better tour guide than I would. Perhaps we should start with the Mansion's garage since Jacob is a mechanic? He might be interested to see what vehicles the various residents have, especially since he might be in line to pick up a few new clients now that he has hired a Mansion resident to work in his shop."
"I suppose a person's gifts might be somewhat difficult to control at first. Personally, I have never had any such problems, but I confess I am somewhat lacking in having the kinds of gifts that might be difficult to initially control. All my abilities are physical in nature and rather straightforward in that regard," the Czech man continued, wings flapping slowly as he floated in the air with Juka. He couldn't see much of a reason to continue pursuing the line of questioning that was leading them down the path of powers and abilities. If the boy had the ability to turn back the hands of time who was Mariusz to argue with him? Was the ability to control one's age really any different or more difficult to believe than talking with a bird man was?
"Is there anything interesting going on in the city over the next week or so," Mariusz asked as the pair of them floated over the edge of Central Park with the snow flakes continuing to gently descend and speckle his feathers with miniscule dots of white before melting. With little to do to occupy his time in New York, at the moment anyway, the Czech man figured it would be as good a time as any to take in some of the various things that would seemingly always be going on in a city this size. He also assumed that Juka would probably know a fair amount about such things. The boy could, apparently, make himself younger or older as he pleased. For all the feathered man knew the boy could be well over a hundred years old.
Mariusz skimmed along at low height, just a handful of feet off the ground. He didn't often like to fly at such low heights because it didn't leave a whole lot of room for maneuvering if the need arose. He noticed when Maya held up her arm and, coming up on her position he gave his wings a few powerful downbeats to come to a stop and then start climbing latching a taloned foot around each of the girl's arms at the wrist in the process. With Maya safely captured he began to climb back into the sky, somewhat slower than normal because of the added weight.
"What is the plan," he asked, using his feet to raise Maya until he could grab her hands in his own. That done he lifted her higher and used his feet to clamp around her ankles and slipped an arm around her waist as they rose higher into the sky. Looking down he saw the minotaur burst out into the clearing Maya had been in a few moments before. "My apologies for the close contact but you are much easier to carry when I have your weight better distributed along the same lines as my own. Might I suggest I fly and spot while you shoot? I only have a few broadheads, I did not think I would be doing more than some target practice in here, if that."
Mariusz noted the response of the person behind the desk, and the way their face paled when Regan asked her question. He knew very well there was an impressive mechanical room in the Mansion, though how that room worked was well beyond the comprehension of the avian mutant. Still, if that was something that was not supposed to be mentioned then he would not mention it. If there was one thing you learned growing up in a home of diplomats it was how to master a straight poker face. He could certainly understand why such things might be off limits to outsiders, after the experience he had had in the Danger Room.
"Would it not make the most sense to start at the top of the Mansion then work our way down until we were back outside to the grounds," Mariusz asked, stepping away from the wall and ruffling the feathers on his wings a bit to get them to lay down straight once again. "There is not much to see up here, that I know of, beyond the offices and living space and maybe the odd classroom here and there."
