The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. It was just after nightfall and Regan needed to get some air. She had spent the day inside the hot greenhouse toiling away on the neglected plants and the thought of being in the mansion for the evening was making her fur stand on end. Deciding that a nice walk in the woods was in order, Regan went to her room and got a black zip up hoodie to wear outside, her fur kept her warm, but she liked to be ready for anything.
Regan went out to the woods behind the mansion and started to walk deeper into the city areas where she could just get away from the world. Regan did a lot of thinking when she was out in the forest, it was a place of peace and solace, but also a place where she could be herself and let the cat inside out to play without much worry of running into people that she could hurt.
After walking for a long while, Regan came upon some nice solid trees and smirked to herself. It had been a long while since she had climbed some trees and hopped around the tree tops like a big kitten, it used to be one of her favorite things to do. Getting down on all fours Regan ran towards the trees and launched herself onto one. She gripped the bark with her clawed hands and started skittering her way up to a strong branch and perched there for a moment, breathing in the cool fresh air.
Regan hummed happily as she worked her way around the vegetable garden with the watering can and gave it a good soaking. “There you go my lovelies, you were all so parched.” she said softly to the plants with her sweet Irish voice before heading back to the basin sink to refill the can. Once again once it was full she hauled the heavy can out of the sink and started to water some of the other plants that were scattered around the greenhouse.
Coming up to a group of plants in the corner that needed some water as well, Regan noticed a beautiful purple and blue butterfly sitting on one of the leaves. She leaned over to get a better look at it and smiled softly, “Well look what we have here. Hello there little one, I see you found a nice warm place to spend your winter. I need to water these plants here, I wonder if you’ll let me move you some place a little safer.” Regan slowly brought her clawed, furry hand up to the leaf and tried to gently get her hand under its tiny legs so it would crawl onto her hand, “I promise I won’t hurt you, and I won’t touch your wings little one.” Regan had read about butterflies in her “Father’s” Library, she knew that they had powder on their wings which let them fly and if she touched them she would ruin that powder and the poor butterfly would never fly again. “Come on now, hop on and I’ll put you on some nice calla lilies where you’ll be safe.”
Shrugging her shoulders a little, Regan looked over at Tinaker and thought about what Miles had said. “Well it was just my own little theory, I could be wrong after all.” She could see the pain Miles felt for his dogs and she wondered if Miles ever treated his dogs like he had treated them when they were alive. She decided to test this theory for herself; she did like testing her crazy ideas out sometimes, as long as no one got hurt. “Miles, do you treat your dogs like you did when they were alive? Do you rub their bellies and play with them like you used to? What if you filled their minds with the memories you have of them when they were living? Maybe they would remember, maybe those things would spark their souls, it’s a maybe, but isn’t it worth trying if it would make you feel better?” She looked over at Tinaker and then back at Miles with an encouraging smile, “Why don’t you try calling him over to your side and rub his belly? Don’t do it like you do it when you command them as thralls, do it like he’s just as alive as he was before he was hit by that car.”
Oh man, did Regan ever know how Miles felt about being unpredictable and guilty about her actions. She lived like that every day and she had spent at least half of her life as the sabre tooth. “I truly know how you feel Miles. I never know what is going to happen when I let the sabre tooth out, I try my best to control her from the background, but there is always the potential for her to blatantly ignore me and do whatever she wants to do. She is just wild and needs to me tamed.” Regan placed a clawed hand on Miles’s knee and tried to give him some comfort, “I truly believe that you should try to plan a safe way to channel your powers Miles, to try and control them like I have to control my sabre tooth. I would be happy to help you if you would like me to.”
Regan sat back and took her hand off of Miles’s knee. Wow, that was a tough question to answer. How was she going to answer that? She thought for a few moments and smiled as she thought of a funnier moment as the sabre tooth, “One time when I was locked up as a side show attraction in Ireland, I coughed up a nasty looking hairball on the mayor of Dublin.” Regan laughed and shook her head, “I have attacked a few people unintentionally, but the worst thing I have done so far is killed a lot of animals.” She sighed and looked past Miles and out the window, her eyes welled up with a few tears and she tried to blink them away. “Just this morning I killed a beautiful stag out in the woods because I needed to eat. Taking a life, any life, even an animal’s life is not something that sits well with me. I needed to do it to survive, but it is a horrible and chilling thing to watch the life drain from a living creature’s eyes.” Regan shuddered and wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her fur covered hand.
Still with her back to Clyde, Regan thought about his powers for a few moments and how he found it annoying. It was most likely very annoying to be going through the teenage years looking like a child. “I’m sure it has its benefits too though.” Regan could see a few situations that it could be handy in.
Regan kind of jumped a little at his comment, she wasn’t holding him hostage, at least she wasn’t trying to. She looked around the forest and although her feline eyes adjusted easily to see in the dark, she knew there was almost no light left in the sky and Clyde would most likely not find his way out. “Well do you have a flashlight in your bag? I don’t think you are going to be able to find your way out of here without one.”
She shifted her weight once again to her right leg and thought for a moment. She still kept her back to Clyde as he hadn’t told her it was alright to turn around yet and she was trying to be as respectful as possible. Finally she got an idea that just might help make things a little better between them. “I can see clearly in the dark, if you want I can lead you to the edge of the wood so you don’t get lost.” She thought for a few more seconds, Clyde most likely wouldn’t trust her just like that after what had happened so she decided to let him have the advantage over her, “I can lead you out in a way that would leave me vulnerable to you so I cannot hurt you.”
It was late afternoon and Regan had some more work to do in the greenhouse. It seemed it had been a while since there was a gardener here at the mansion, some of the plants were beyond hope, but most she had been able to save with a little bit of love.
Regan unlocked the door and stepped inside the warmth of the greenhouse. It was actually getting too hot for the plants in there, so she left the door open a crack to let in some fresh cool air from outside. She made her way over to the large table that was set up to enjoy the view of the city while she worked. She grabbed her dark green apron off of the hook on the wall by the table and put it on over her light green tank top and dark blue jeans so she wouldn’t get her clothes dirty and got ready to work.
Deciding to start with watering the vegetable garden first, Regan grabbed the watering can from under the table. She walked over to the large basin sink and turned on the water and started to fill up the watering can. Humming a little tune softly, she waited until it was finished and then shut off the water and hoisted up the heavy can. She headed over to the vegetable garden and started to water the plants.
Once again Regan gave a little bounce and another giddy clap of her hands. “Sure, I just finished repotting a batch of calla lilies today so it’s a bit of a mess in there.” She giggled and turned to open the large front door to head inside. “Welcome to the mansion.”
The large foyer was bright and open. There were couches and chairs littered about with overstuffed pillows. In front was a large set of stairs that headed up to the second floor. “I hope you are ready for a long walk Jacob!” Snickering she looked at Mariusz and gave him a playful wink since he knew how long of a walk they were about to partake on.
Regan padded over to the stairs and waited on the bottom stair with her hands folded together in front of her. She knew the men were talking about combat styles and different ways to adapt fighting for Mariusz and she didn’t want to interrupt them while they were speaking. Regan’s fighting style was wild and fierce, she was an animal after all, and with the sabre tooth in control when she fought, teaching her techniques was pretty pointless. Finally piping up she said, “Whenever you are ready gentlemen.”
Regan thought for a few moments about what Miles had told her about his “dark side”. She crossed her own legs in the “Indian” position and turned so she was sitting to face Miles. “You know Miles, thinking about it, I think I might have a bit of an explanation on your powers. It might not be right, but it’s just my perspective of it.” She smiled softly and then continued. “Your powers have been trigger twice by the deaths of your dogs and you get great pleasure from making them your thralls. I know you are disgusted by it, I can tell that much, but my theory for why you like it so much is that you brought back two of your best friends. Loss is something so terrible, and everyone wants to be able to bring back their loved ones when they pass. You have the ability to bring them back in a way, so it’s only natural that you would feel pleasure from bringing that loved one back.”
She felt Miles’s pain, she truly did. When the sabre tooth took over her mind, it was an amazing feeling of being free and without consequence, but being free like that also made Regan afraid, deep down she was truly human and not a beast, so she too needed to learn control.
“Miles it’s ok to be afraid, really it is. I am terrified of losing control of myself to the sabre tooth, but at the same time I need her. She has twice my strength, speed, agility, and fangs. She can do things that I could never do on my own. She also has even better sight, smell, and hearing as me and can heal twice as fast from injury. She really is an amazing part of me, but I need to learn to control her. Maybe in your “dark” state you can make deeper connections to your thralls, you just have to try. Maybe you can bring on that side of you without having to lose a loved one or without being near the dead and in a safe place where you can’t hurt anyone. You really don’t know what good you could do unless you try.”
Regan thought about what she had just said and realized she was preaching to the choir. Here she was telling Miles to try and find a way to channel his power for good even though it scared him half to death and she was in the same boat! She was so afraid of letting the sabre tooth have any control that she didn’t see what potential it had to do good, she just had to try.
Regan smiled softly as Vincente told her it was a pleasure showing her around. She had never had someone say that to her before, it was kind of nice. She rubbed her hands together as Vincente brought over the buns and placed them on the table. They looked so delicious!
Vincente’s smile was a thing of beauty, he had such an amazing smile that Regan couldn’t help but smile just as widely back. “Well I’m glad that you promise not to ask, because I would tell you to go take a hike!” she laughed and turned her bun until she found the end of the spiral. With the tip of her index finger’s claw she pulled the edge of the spiral away from the rest of the bun and tore off a small piece gently. She carefully placed it in her mouth and started to groom her claws with her rough tongue until all of the sugar was off of it. Sometimes being furry made eating sticky things a little tricky. She let out a soft purr, “Oh my, those are good!”
Thinking for a moment on all the different foods that she had made over the years, one spicy dish came to mind that she really did love, “Oh I think I know a good one, how does seafood jambalaya sound? It’s a spicy rice dish with shrimp, crab, and lobster, in a tomato based sauce, with peppers and onions.” Regan was still purring softly as she spoke. She took another tear off of the spiraled bun and placed it in her mouth, once again grooming the sugar away from her furry fingertips with a smile.
Regan remained silent while the men talked about history and the military. Regan loved to learn new things, but history was not on the top of her list. She liked tactile things, things that she could see, touch, and smell, even sometimes taste. Her senses are what made Regan good at growing plants.
Reaching the front door first, Regan turned to face her extremely tall companions and waited for them to join her. Regan smiled a fanged grin as Jacob put two and two together about her. She bounced on her toes and clapped her furry hands a few times when Jacob said he would make a point to come and see what she had done. “Oh that would be wonderful Jacob!” Regan may have been around 20 years old but some things made her giddy like a school girl. “If you even want to see some of my plants, come to the greenhouse in the back, I’m in there a lot right now since its winter.”
Regan smiled once again as Jacob said he’d show her some car stuff. She most likely wouldn’t touch anything because her white fur would get horribly stained, but she’d love to watch and learn. Giggling through a clawed hand to her mouth at the dog like commands Jacob gave his car, Regan looked over at Mariusz, “So where should we take Jacob to first?” She then looked back up at Jacob, “Do you want a big tour or just straight to the admitting office?”
There were many times in Regan’s life where she had been hurt by humans, and part of her did not like being around them, but Regan’s “Father” was a good man and in the time he had been with her he had showed her that there was good in this world. Serena was a good person, Regan could tell that much.
Suddenly Serena was hugging her, and she wasn’t quite sure what to do. She patted Serena’s back lightly and smiled, it was kind of nice to have someone who actually wanted to touch her and be near her instead of trying to run away and avoid her. She giggled as Serena turned red and let go of her. “It’s quite alright Serena, it’s nice to feel a hug again and it’s been a very long time since I have been given a hug.”
Standing on the edge of the property lines of the mansion, Regan let out a little sigh and looked up at the stars. Out of the trees the night sky was fully in view and it was beautiful. “It sure was a good night for a walk. I went out to get some air,” Regan paused and looked back at Serena, "And I came back with a friend.” She said with a fanged grin.
The sound of Clyde entering the cover of the bushes made Regan’s ears twitch. She kept her back to him as he had requested and waited. Her sensitive ears could pick up every sound that Clyde made. Every ruffle of the fabrics, every zip and button were clear as day. She wasn’t trying to be creepy; she could just hear it all, sometimes great hearing had its drawbacks.
Regan tilted her head to the side when Clyde told her what he was doing and how old he was. “Really? So you are a mutant too? What is your mutation exactly? Mine is pretty obvious.” She sighed heavily at her last comment and looked down at the ground. Shifting her weight to the left, Regan scuffed the snow with the toe of her right boot. “I wish I could look normal…” she said under her breath and to herself more then to Clyde.
Regan was starting to wonder if coming out into the woods was such a good idea after all. Here she was, out in the woods with a boy that she had almost killed. He most likely thought she was insane to still be standing around here, but she had thought he was just a boy, not sixteen years old. Feeling rather dumb now for picking him up earlier, she decided to apologize. “Sorry about picking you up off the ground earlier Clyde, I thought you were just a child and needed a hand. Is there anything I can do to make this whole mess up to you? I really feel awful about it all and I would like to prove to you how sorry I am.”
Regan walked just slightly in front of the two large men. She was small but she was swift. Her overly long tail curled at the end so as not to drag on the ground, as she walked it swayed slightly from side to side. She spoke over her shoulder to Jacob, “Well I appreciate you understanding the situation. We can gladly show you around the public areas, as Mariusz had said.” She smiled at Mariusz over her other shoulder.
The mansion was such an amazing site to view. It was a massive building and the opulence of it was something to be behold. Regan was getting quite excited for spring when she could fill the flower beds with flowers and shrubs and make the mansion look like a castle from a magazine. There was always something to do around the ground, and the warmer weather would give her even more to do outdoors. “It is quite beautiful isn’t it? When I’m done with it this spring, it will look even better!”
She purred softly at the thought of all the beautiful flowers, and skipped for a few steps before looking back over her shoulder towards Jacob again, “So you are a mechanic you said right? That must be fun! I would have one heck of a time trying to get all of that grease and oil out of my fur! Maybe I can watch you take something apart sometime?” She smiled softly at him, “If you decide to stay here that is. I always love to learn about new things.”
Finishing smoothing out the last of her fur on her tail, Regan smiled and let out a little chuckle to Jacob’s apology, “That’s alright; I just wasn’t expecting your car to roar louder than I do. That’s quite a power you’ve got there Jacob.”
Regan had no idea what Jacob was referring to, and she was very puzzled. She looked at Mariusz for answers, but she knew just as well he had none to give her. “I’m not sure what you are talking about Jacob, but I’m sure someone in the mansion would know, but I can’t guarantee that you will get answers. Given that it is not common knowledge, it must be something that is meant to be kept secret.”
Watching as the gates opened and the car hummed to life again, Regan looked up at Mariusz for a moment before looking up at Jacob once again. “Well the mansion is a safe haven for all mutants Jacob, but I don’t suggest that you come in just to go sniffing around for things that are not meant to be seen. If you can contain your curiosity until the right person can speak with you, then I see no problems with you coming inside.” She looked over at Marisz for some support on this position, they were both so new to the mansion, she didn’t want them to get kicked out for aiding on exposing important secretes to a stranger.
Smiling Regan continued leading the way, Serena was starting to warm up a bit, that was good, that fight would have shook up anyone that wasn’t used to violence. “I really do enjoy working with plants, there is such a peacefulness about being amongst the beautiful things that nature has created.”
They were just reaching the edge of the trees when Regan frowned at Serena’s comments. Even if the whispers were not meant to be heard, to Regan they were as clear as day with those feline ears. She stopped and turned to Serena, taking both of the girl’s hands in her own furry ones gently, and looked her in the eyes. “Serena, you are so very welcome. I am glad that I was able to help you.” She could see how lost this girl was looking right now; Regan knew that feeling so well. What more could she do for her? “Tell you what, if you need anything, anything at all, even just to talk, you come find me ok?” Regan smiled softly “Or you could just yell really loud for me, I’d hear you.” She snickered and wiggled her feline ears to try and make Serena smile.
Regan smiled and turned on her heels to head back down the hall. She padded quietly down the hall and headed back to her room. The sun had changed locations and she was getting a little sleepy, so instead of reading she decided that a cat nap was in order instead.
