The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The Adapted's reply to his question was almost as vague as his answer to hers. Business. Shade was certain it was business. Everything about the woman was business: her dress, her attitude, her mannerisms. Every hair was perfectly placed in it's correct position, every word spoken was chosen for a specific purpose, and every emotion checked and balanced before being allowed to surface. Yes, her entire persona screamed business, like the dying breath of a man being burned alive. Shade might have asked if the personal business or for the Order, but he chose to remain silent as she continued on.
The shadow mutant also chose to ignore her concerning the lovely evening. Was that a jab at him? Did she know about his abilities? Possibly, she was on the council, and Shade's abilities were well known even outside of the Order. Even so, she had to know that Shade was within her pacifying zone. He was as normal (and harmless) as any regular human while within her aura, and oh, how he despised it.
"I was not-" Shade replied instantly to her next question. However, he stopped himself from finishing his sentence. There was no help in lying to her, especially when she knew the truth. So instead, Shade decided to go with a little of the truth.
"I do not like you." Shade said as if this was unknown.
"And I do not trust you. The Order fight for a world ruled by mutants. Why would you help us, Adapted?" He said, uttering the last word as if it was an insult.
For a while, Shade had been contempt to wait for Cold Steel or Silver Streak or any other X-men for that matter to arrive. Hell, even Katelyn's little face would have been nice to see around. However, there had been no visitors to his cell except the fellow who brought his food. He had tried casual conversation with the man, but obviously, he had been instructed not to talk with Shade. It was fruitless to try anymore. Instead, Shade had thrown rude comments at the man, hoping that one of them would rise the man to try and strike him, but those had not worked either.
After that, the shadow mutant had become anger, shouting insults at the wall, as no one was around to hear him. He tried countless times to try and break through the walls of the places, picking at them for a few seconds before his blades would disappear in smoke. It had wielded no results except for sore fingers and blistered palms. The "glass" wall of his cell proved just as impermeable as the walls. At one point, Shade thought he might have dislocated his shoulder, throwing himself against the transparent wall, but the pain was magically gone the next morning, as if someone had healed him when he was asleep. That had ended Shade's violent phase.
Lately, Shade's boredom had turned to lethargy. For most of the day, he would just lie on his bed. His meals went untouched, except for a few bites. The only time he would leave his bed was to use the restroom, and he was starting to find that difficult. Over the past few months, Shade's once strong body had deteriorated until he looked more like a skeleton than a human being. His skin was drawn tight across his bones; his muscles had withered to almost nothing. He had refused to change clothes anymore, so he had developed a musky smell.
All in all, the once powerful mutant known as Shade was no more. In his place was only the sunken shell of a man who was slowly dying in a confined cell. To make matters worse, the man who was Shade was feeling like he was going insane. Recently, he had begun to see shadows, shadows in the bright light that might offer him refuge, but when Shade tried to enter them, they would disappear into nothing. The sane part of Shade's brain told him that they were only mirages, pictures that were forming in his head from his lack of food and his hope to escape his prison.
"Shadow, shadow..."
Words felt strange on Shade's tongue as if he had not used it in a month. He whispered the word over and over to himself in a raspy voice that sounded foreign, even to him. All he wanted was a shadow. Some bit of darkness to hide in where he could escape this prison, escape this world.
"Shadow, shadow, shadow..." The man who had been Shade whispered the word to himself until fatigue overcame him, and he faded into the dream world that led the only escape from the small, white room that was his world.
It is obvious that you will fit in great here! You can keep your sunlight though. I never really liked it anyways.
However, do not let that disturb you from stopping by the Sanctuary. We could use some sunlight in there, and you would fit in great. Just don't listen to those lying X-men we are actually a very accepting organization with great benefits for mutants, such as yourself.
Looking forward to seeing you around the board, Shade
Shade's feet skidded to a halt immediately at the sudden appearance of the Adapted woman. His immediate reaction was to shoot a hand into his jacket pocket to form a black dagger. However, as he groped for the knife, the shadows refused to solidify. The area surrounding the Adapted was canceling his abilities. He was defenseless. A sense of fear crept up his spine at the realization. His face turned into a snarl.
"Nothing." Shade said, defensively. The male mutant felt for his sixth sense of darkness, searching for the nearest shadow. However, he found that it was fried as well. Shade felt almost naked without it. It was like suddenly losing half of one's sight. Another more powerful sense of fear washed over him, and he almost shivered from the effect. However, he would not show his fear in front of the Adapted.
He did not hide his hatred for her though. His lips were snarled as his nostrils flared, and the sides of his nose wrinkled as if the very smell of her was revolting to him. His eyes were shooting daggers at her, but they were still half hidden beneath his hood and ball cap. Shade despised the Adapted with their mutant cancelling abilities. He despised her more, because she had caught him spying on her. She knew it. He knew that she knew it. However, he also knew that she would want to know why he was spying on her, and he was not able to reveal anything to her. So, they would have to play a game between the two of them, a deadly game of wits.
"What are you doing out this evening?" Shade asked, his snarl remaining on his face.
Due to my lack of entertainment on the boat, I have been creating a medival world which I would like to turn into a posting site, like MRO. I have some experience in the process of the creating proboard sites, but lack the skills to run one by myself. Therefore, I am putting out a general call to see if there are any on those who are interested in being a Mod and helping me bring this world to life. Below, I will provide a basic concept of my vision. I will provide further details to any interested parties.
The idea for the world can largely be accredited to my current reading of the Games of Thrones, but it is only vaguely similiar.
The world is roughly divided into eight different provinces, each with its own distinguishing land features. I have not come up with a name for the land. These lands are ruled by lords and their courts, both big and small. Mythic creatures also inhabitat these lands. The time period is set around the medival times with knights fighting with swords and arrows. However, there are a few magical items that help to enhance society.
This is a very vague overview, I know, but if you would like more information please reply below or PM me. As I mentioned before, this is a developing world, and things are likely to change. I would love to have someone to bounce ideas off of.
Also, if anyone likes the idea and would like to join when I am finally home and can get this thing up and running, please do not hesitate to post below or PM me. I have many ideas and a lot of vacant positions for possible lords and ladies. It will be first come, first serve.
Thank you for your time, Shade
PS: I was not sure whether to post this here or under general chat, but since this that to do with the creating of another site, I decided it would be best to post here. And of course, MRO would be gloriously promoted on the website, if it ever comes to life.
Shade listened intently as the young woman described her ability, only grimacing slightly when the tattoo artist working on his back side hit a sensitive spot. However, the shadow mutant forced himself not to flinch to ensure that he would not disturb the man behind him from his work. After a moment, the sensitivity dulled, and Shade was able to relax slightly.
"Where do you practice your ability? I know of a certain place where all mutants are welcome. You are always welcome to visit if you would be interested." Shade said, thinking that the young woman would be a great addition to the Sanctuary (as if the Sanctuary was not packed with enough dangerous females). However, Kenzi seemed more of a wild child than a cold blooded killer, like Isabel, the bonemancer. Shade made a mental note of never introducing the two. Isabel's ways were surprisingly addictive.
"Have you thought of any other tattoos that you want to get in the future? It must be interesting to think about with all the possibilities that your unique ability gives you." Shade commented. The shadow mutant, himself, could think of another hundred different tattoos that came to mind. If he had been gifted with her talent, Shade would probably be covered in tattoos that he could use in any given situation.
I was thinking more along the lines of the X-men watching her so she would not find trouble again. Even so, it was more of Shade thinking to himself than him taking him any actual actions.
However, I have been thinking about visiting Kaitlyn later to talk with her about what had happened that night and to try and convince her not to tell Lady Syn. That would turn out very bad for Shade if she would somehow find out about that.
I have kind of left how long Shade has been captured as vague as possible to eliminate any problems with timeline conflicts. I was thinking a couple of months at least. It also helps to explain my lack of posting.
Personally, I was thinking Shade would be captured from right before Christmas to the end of the Riot plot. He might be out by the end of it, but we will see. I do not know how my work schedule may change in the coming months, but after October, I will be back at full posting strength. I plan for him to be out by then.
I feel that we need to become friends. Just because I am always having to deal with light. Such a nuisance! But with your help, I will never have to worry about it again.
Don't worry! I can help you out as well. I could be your personal transportation. Shadow jumping is a great way to travel (as long as you can keep your lunch down).
Anyways, it is great to meet you and can not wait to see your around the boards.
Make sure to stop by the Sanctuary for some milk and cookies! It's easy to find. It is the building with the big golden doors!
Currently (kind of), Shade is captured by the X-men. If any exploring mansion residents, or revengeful X-men, wish to have a thread then please post below or send me a PM, or both.
It was hard to tell how long Shade had been waiting to his cell of light. There was no way to tell time here except for the arrival of food. Three times during the day, or what Shade assumed was day, an elderly man dressed as a doctor would arrive to give the trapped mutant food. It was a ritualistic procedure, and no matter what Shade would say to the man, he would never even acknowledge Shade's existence. The shadow mutant had started out kindly enough, asking for the leader of the X-men to come see him. With no reply to that, Shade asked about what would happen to him. However, he still had no reply. Finally, the shadow mutant had started making threats and screaming curses at the silent doctor, but it did nothing to provoke the man's anger. So Shade simply accepted his fate of captivity.
The shadow mutant had tried to mark the cell with his blade every time the man appeared, but the wall was too hard to take a scratch. Boredom and frustration were Shade's only companions. In order to kill time, the captured Orderling had taken to exercising as much as he could in his cell. His muscles had become leaner and more defined. He was faster at drawing a blade from his pocket and more accurate with it as well, at least within the range of his cell. Shade's blonde hair was starting to lengthen and he was in need of a shave. Luckily, they had been kind enough to provide changes of clothes every "day" with his first meal, even if they were ugly orange coveralls.
The shadow mutant had come to his own realization about why no one had entertained his capture. The X-men were a peaceful organization. They would not kill him, and he knew that if they tried to bring the shadow mutant to court, he would either escape or the Order would rescue him. So the X-men had confined him to this tiny cell to remove Shade from the fight. The Orderling was one piece off the board for the X-men, and they were not about to lose that piece. However, Shade also knew that they could not keep him down forever. They would have to decide what to do him sooner or later. The shadow mutant just hoped that they would decide sooner than later. He was tired of living "Groundhog's Day" in this tiny cell.
The crowd were dense enough to hide a single man in a grey sweater. Shade was certain of that. As he followed the short blond hair of the Adapted, the shadow mutant tucked his hands into his front pocket and kept his head down, though his unseen eyes stayed on Lenna.
When she took a right, Shade had to wait at the corner for a couple to cover him before he chanced turning the corner. By the time he was around the corner, Shade just managed to see a whisp of blond hair disappear around the next block. She had turned back to head the other direction. Her decision confused the shadow mutant, but he was not able to lose her. He broke into a little jog to close the distance between him and his target. Once at the end of the block, Shade pulled up and returned to walking.
Rolling the corner, the setting sun hit Shade's eyes in an instant, blinding his vision for a moment. Lifting his hand up to shield his eyes, the shadow mutant could not see his target. Immediately, his mind flew to possibilities of where the Adapted might have disappeared to. Breaking into a brisk walk, Shade's gaze was everywhere at once as he tried to find his target. So ingrossed in his search was he that Shade did not even feel the wash of coolness that left him when he neared the alleyway as he entered the nullification field of Lenna.
Shade had pressed himself against the large building as if the shadow cast by the skyscraper would suddenly disappear. His heart was still racing; his breath came in gulps. He was almost certain Lenna had seen him, or would have seen him if she had spotted. Shade had been too busy trying to find a hiding spot to notice if her eyes had fallen on him. As his breath slowed to a more steady pace, the shadow mutant tried to reaffirm himself that she had not. There were plenty of people on the street. Why would know it was him the moment her eyes traveled over him? Plus, he was in a rather unnoticed color. A gray sweater was rarely the thing eyes caught sight of. It was why he had picked it.
Either way, Shade knew he had dodged a bullet. It was probably best to return to the Sanctuary and continue his stalking from there. It would be easier to hide in a familiar place, and he would have a reason for being there, too. However, the thought of missing something valuable about the Adapted torn Shade's mind apart, especially when his eyes caught sight of her short blonde hair again as she weaved through the crowd of people on the other side of the street. He wanted to go and return to the safety of the Sanctuary, but he had to stay. He had to find something on the Adapted that he could tell Lady Syn.
The other side of the street was the more dangerous choice. The shadows were not cast in the correct direction. Instead, he would be directly in the sunlight. However, he stayed a good deal behind her. He could just follow her on foot. She would never notice him in this crowd. Jumping under a sheltered staircase, Shade slipped out behind the blonde haired Adapted as he tried to blend into the crowd of New Yorkers coming home from work. He slouched slightly to reduce his height and put his hands in his pockets. His hood was over his head to protect his frail skin and eyes from the blinding setting sun. Also, his condition would be easy to pick out in a crowd. Shade hoped to stay a good fifteen to twenty feet back, just to be sure that he did not draw her suspension.
The plan had worked perfectly! Of course, no one would suspect that due to Shade's present in the prison cell in the bottom of the X-men's fancy mansion. Katelyn had managed to slip through mansion and retrieve the files Shade had needed for his future endeavors. The X-men do-gooders had arrived just in time to save the day, and although Shade had not intended to nearly kill the young redhead, the attack was sure to throw off suspension about them working together. However, it would also keep Katelyn under a close watch so that she could not slip off to the Sanctuary anytime soon to tell the members of the Order "council".
Shade made a sound of disapproval at the thought. Of course, raising Lady Syn and her brother to powers of authority was a responsible enough move, but the other members were laughable, at best. Lenna was an Adapted; not even a mutant! By right, they should have slit her throat when she had walked so gracefully through those lovely golden doors. As for the massive Roach, he was useful enough. Yet, he had only just joined the Order cause, and he acted like Lenna's pet insect most of time, doing her bidding without question. They should have at least asked Shade if wanted a spot at the table. He had proven himself on multiple occasions. Heck, he had nearly died several times following orders from Lady Syn. However, that had gotten him no where. Shade was seen as a pawn on the board, not seen as a real threat. Well, everyone would soon see just how deadly this pawn could be.
Silver Streak had locked Shade down in a brightly illuminated cell, after seeing that his wounds were not life threatening. The shadow mutant had also been relieved of his large overcoat and body armor, leaving only his black pants and shirt. It seemed the X-men were taking no chance of the darkness mutant escaping as the light never left the cell, even when he slept. In order to kill time as he waited for his captors to decide what they were going to do with him, Shade pulled black daggers from underneath his shirt as he materialized them for a moment before their structure deteriorated and it faded into smoke.
Yawning, the captured Orderling pulled another dagger out, observing it for a moment before it disappered into nothingness. He wondered who they would send first, and if they would be friendly. Silver Streak had promised to show up and entertain him, but it was the ice forming mutant that Shade was most interested in seeing again. It had been a long time since the alleyway with the Stalker. The shadow mutant had heard talks that Cold Steel now ran the X-men. Well, if that was the case, the cold one was sure to visit him too. Shade had a proposal ready for him that he was sure the ice mutant could not refuse!
