Sleepwear: Exercise shorts and a t-shirt usually. Miscellaneous clothing: Other than her scarves, she may wear earrings at times, but usually it's just a necklace if she's not wearing the scarf.
Character
Personality: Minerva is very intelligent, and is good at memorizing things. Fitting, since her parents named her after the Roman Goddess of wisdom. She sometimes forgets that not everyone wants to know the facts she's got stored away, so she can come off as a know-it-all. Since her mother's death, Minerva has been a bit drawn into herself, become very absorbed into her work, and a bit of a loner. Her job has taught her that she's very witty and good with improvisation and comedy. She's also a good writer, of course, to write commercials. That being said, she hasn't much chance to use her new-found skills because of her quiet nature. Minerva can be very friendly if she's approached. She just isn't good at starting conversations, and doesn't like to share much about her past, or even parts of who she is. Her mutation, for example. She understands how it works, and knows how to use it. She just doesn't have a use for it as of her present life. She secretly wishes she had a chance to use it but isn't sure how. Hobbies/ Interests: Reading, writing, music, humor, doing crafts, public speaking (presentations and the like) Job or part time job and description: She works with an advertising department, writing commercials for television and the internet. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Aside from your average dislike of bugs, Minerva is terrified of deep water due to an accident when she was young. She also has an extreme fear of tornadoes. Special talents: Improv comedy (wit, sharp tongue)
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Right now, she doesn't know about the sides. But she would be on the good or "light" side if given a choice. She's not met another mutant (that she knows of) to explain things.
Mutations
Mutation description: Minerva is what you might call a.. Human Deluminator. She can absorb and replace light. She can't create new light - she has to either store it and use it later, or take away light and put it back. The light is pulled in through her palms. She can only receive light from 25 ft away - past that she can't feel it to pull it in. She can hold light for perhaps up to 5 hours - but she can feel it inside her, and it starts to distract her. She's used to keeping it up for work or school - She would have to break in the middle of the day and find somewhere like a closet or something like that to "recharge" and not appear like she suddenly caught the flu when she's forced to release the light. In order to absorb light, her skin tans until it's nearly entire black (much like fabric that absorbs all variants of light.) Until she releases it, she remains dark skinned. When she replaces light her skin becomes pale again. She can choose not to let all the light out, leaving her skin tanned. That or, she looks as pale as a vampire. She tends to keep a fair amount of light absorbed so she isn't so incredibly pale. The source she draws from can be replaced in order to work, or she can return the light to the source in question. Otherwise, the light is taken and cannot be returned. Strengths: When she takes away light and absorbs it, her skin is dark so it's even easier for her to hide. She can pull light from multiple sources provided she can feel them. It does make it harder to absorb all of the light from a source, so she may not be able to hold the entirety of multiple sources at once. It does help to dim lights at once, though, if she requires shadow or obscured vision. Weaknesses and Limitations: Can't create light out of nothing. When she gives out large amounts of light, she looks sickly pale and far more so than any normal human should. She doesn't feel ill or anything, but just looks it. She cannot keep limitless amounts of light. Just enough that her skin becomes pitch black. Normally, she avoids this entirely because of the obvious strangeness of that type of skin tone. Generally it's only enough to light a bulb that she holds. This makes her skin a decently tan color, rather than obscenely pale. But she can handle up to the fluorescent lights in a room (not, perhaps, enough for a.. say, a large grocery store or the like. But then, how many of those are there in New York's big cities?) Maybe in the future she'll learn to control it even better, and be able to contain/control larger amounts.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: She's flexible in the sense that she used to do dance and gymnastics as a child and now she can still curl up into small places and hide. Also, if someone bends her arm trying to hurt her, it's sort of like stretching for her. Fighting Style: Minerva has been taught vaguely to fight by her father. She knows the basic idea of what to his if she's attacked (especially by a guy). More often than not, though, she'll prefer to hide or have someone stronger and better than her fight someone off. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: She's good at hiding, but she isn't the fastest runner.
History Of Your Character In her very early years, Minerva's parents saw the changing color of her skin, and began researching it. To say they were surprised would be an understatement. While they acted like nothing happened, Minerva grew up pretty happy. She went around thinking she was just a normal girl, while her parents figured out what was going on. When she was younger, it didn't happen so often - perhaps when she was scared, but not usually anything more than that. They traveled every now and then, but eventually ended up back in Bristol, England. It takes a lot to get her angry, but when she was sixteen, she had gotten so incredibly angry at one of the boys in her class that she'd basically gone "all mutant" on them (she isn't sure what else to call it) and her parents sent her to New York. Minerva had been panicky and afraid to leave the house, unsure what was wrong with her. That's when her parents had told her officially what she was. She locked herself in her room for days until she finally accepted it. It wasn't like it was new or she could change it. So she moved so she wouldn't cause problems for her parents. They haven't seen her lately, as they seemed to be worried that she would return and mutant out again. If Minerva needed help, they would likely be there for her, but Minerva wants to avoid needing anybody's help. Since then, she's traveled often for work with her Advertising Firm, but has found that NYC is an easy place to fit in, and she's comfortable there. Now she lives a bit away from the city so she can have her own flat yet still be close for work.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Lizzy Calver sent me the link! Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Nope! I'm new ._. Sample RP: "Minerva Learns To Control Her Mutation" (age: 16) Minerva woke one morning, earlier than usual, feeling like something was wrong. As a teenager, she thought perhaps she was just being paranoid. Resting her head back against her pillow she sighed. It had been a month since she left Bristol, heading for the United States. She had terrified her classmates when she had accidentally taken in light and her skin had changed tone. At the time, she hadn't a clue what was happening to her. Her parents didn't seem too surprised, though. Apparently it had happened before but they hadn't wanted to worry her. They'd researched it and gotten in touch with someone who told them she was a mutant but that she wouldn't harm them. Apparently they'd taken the idea in, and let it be. Minerva honestly couldn't believe they'd kept her. Her parents were very.. conservative and nervous naturally. When she heard a door creak down the the hall in her flat, she opened her eyes again, watching her door with narrowed eyes. Now, Minerva wasn't some fighter. But she had been taught how to at least minimally defend herself. Getting out of bed silently, she made her way to the door. There was a light shining through the crack at the bottom of the door as she heard shuffling coming from the other side. She knelt down to look under the crack, but didn't see any shadows. The person must have been in her living room. Opening the door just enough to squeeze through, Minerva shuffled down the hallway silently. She could see the person, now, in her den, attempting to unplug her tele. What kind of fool turns the light on to rob a house? Shaking her head, she frowned. How could she get rid of him? Her mind flew through the possibilities of making him leave. She inhaled deeply through her nose and the man looked up. Oh crap. He began walking in her direction, seemingly determined to get rid of the offending creature who made a noise. Panic welled up inside her as Minerva began stepping away, back down the hallway. There really wasn't anywhere to go. She closed her eyes tightly, before realizing what she had to do. The only thing she could do. Drawing in a breath, she opened her hands, feeling the light around her. In an instant, that light was gone and the man was tripping over something on the floor. Knowing her skin would be nearly pitch black, Minerva ran forward and opened the door to the apartment hallway - which, she knew, would have its lights off by now. The man was making sounds of confusion and pain as he stood. Marching up to him, she grabbed him by the back of his shirt collar, hearing him let out a gasp, and pulled him over to the door even as he tripped his way backwards. Pushing him out the door, she slammed the door shut behind him, locking her extra lock this time. She would have none of that again. Suddenly realizing how dark it was again, she opened her hands and released the light, reveling in the sudden realization that she could control this seemingly impossible thing. Staring at herself in the mirror, she watched her skin become incredibly pale once more.
