The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Oh, I can't wait." Shade replied as silver mutant roughed manhandled him before pulling him off the snow covered ground. The shadow mutant unseen eyes were locked onto the back of the silver mutant's man as he was led by his bound hands to the bleeding pre-teenager and attending tiger. Shade tried not to cast his eyes at the blood that was pooled in Kaitlyn's belly from the knife wound. However, the red puddle kept catching his gaze. He really had not meant to attack the young girl. Although the shadow mutant was by far more worried about what Lady Syn (or her brothers) might do to him if they found out about this little incident than feeling any regret towards Kaitlyn. He did not prefer to attack young girls though. Luckily, Silver Streak gave Shade a perfect reason to get close enough to the red haired child as he scooped up her bleeding form.
"Keep pressure on the wound." Shade instructed Kaitlyn, cradling her in his arms. He was surprised at how light the young girl weighed. At her age and weight, the loss of that much blood was almost sure to cause complication. They would need mutant treatment, and soon, if they wanted to save her life, which would very much benefit saving Shade's life later on.
"Let's hurry along. Shall we?" The shadow mutant said turning to the silver manipulator.
So...my easy boat life has turned into a crazy boat life. We stopped in Thailand for four days of liberty, then I was forced to changed jobs, moving from an eight hour work day to a twelve hour work day. So unfortunately, MRO may be taking a back seat until deployment is done. This seems to work out great with Shade being captured by the X-men
Anyways, if you do not see me around the boards, you will know why, I hope to talk to everyone again soon. I will share all my crazy stories when I get back. Be safe everyone and happy posting!
(OOC: Wow! Totally did not see that you had posted here.)
Shade's heart sank lower and lower as the numerous cabs began to pull further and further away. However, before they could disappear from view, there was a cascade of red brake lights as the convoy of cabs was stopped by a perfectly timed traffic jam. Smiling at his stroke of luck, Shade quickly disappeared into a shadow before popping out of another shadow near the scene of the accident. Looking back at the mess of cars, the shadow mutant searched for the specific numbered taxi which held the woman he was following. However, he did not have to search hard as the short haired Adapted suddenly popped out of her taxi.
For a moment, Shade froze. He was too out in the open, and he knew it. As a group of tourists passed in front of him, the shadow mutant quickly ducked down and scrambled into a shadow to avoid detection from Lenna. His heart was racing when he made it back to the safety of a large shadow cased by a nearby skyscraper. It would have been a miracle for the Order leader to have spotted him in that split second of exposure time, but Shade was not entirely sure that she had not seen him. That scared him slightly. If he had blown his cover, Shade might have to answer some very hard questions from the Adapted. And he was not sure that he would have good enough answers to satisfy her. Above all, Shade could not expose Lady Syn's connection to this endeavor.
It was interesting for Shade to watch the exchange between the two women as they tries to discover what the other was thinking, much in the same way Shade and Evelyn had played their play in the coffee shop, only hours before. Evelyn's abilities were a great ally to her, but Lady Syn had an excellent way of getting under someone's skin. It was weird to think that even after all the time Shade had spent at the Sanctuary, he did not even know what abilities the dark queen possessed. His only clue was from the night he had accidentally 'jumped' into Lady Syn's closet. She had literally thrown him out of her room after making him feel terrified beyond belief. He had been so frightened that he literally had had trouble walking back to his room that night. He never knew how she had done it, but Shade had learned never to anger her again. It was better to appease her every wish than to feel that terror again.
Now, that Evelyn stated the fact that the dark queen's power were linked to manipulation, Shade's eyes were suddenly opened to why and how the Order was able to operate so smoothly. It also made sense as to how the dark haired woman had managed to secure herself atop of the mutant organization and why so many followers were devoted to her, even to death. Lady Syn had been using the members (more or less) to do her bidding. She was even so good as to make the members think that they were doing it of their own free will. Would the others be so devoted to the cause of mutant supremacy if Lady Syn was not tugging at their strings? It was an interest question for Shade to ponder on later and a piece of evidence to fuel Shade's sinister plot.
When Lady Syn rejected Evelyn's original statement due to classic observation, Shade lowered his head and shifted his weight back slightly, a sign that he was not pleased by Evelyn's performance and submissive to the dark queen's wishes. He had been trying to win Lady Syn's favor back again by bringing her a gift. However, Evelyn was not performing up to standards. Even she needed a light push...
"Lady Syn, I assure you she can." Shade said, nudging the blond slightly. His new tool was not performing like she was supposed to.
Shade materialized a dagger in the shadow of his hand as he ran towards the pole. The sudden rushing of blood through his veins caused his extremities, which had numbed in the cold, to tingle as the feeling began to return. Reaching his arm back, the shadow mutant aimed for the glowing ball atop the pole in front of him. Hopefully, the lack of light provided by the destruction of the lamp post would allow him to disappear into the darkness. Once there, it would be easy to explain himself and his presence.
Swinging his arm forward, something caught Shade just behind his knee. For a moment, he thought he was fine before the heavy ends of the surujin caused the silver wire stretched between them to wrap around the shadow mutant's legs. With his legs suddenly tied together, his weight was thrown off balance, causing his shot to sail far to the left. The shadow mutant barely had time to catch himself with his palm. The snow caused his hand to slip, and he fell into a tumble of white powder. The papers that had been stashed in his jacket flew out and mixed with the snow.
After rolling several times, Shade's body slid to a stop. Struggling onto his back, the shadow mutant did something that he never thought he would do before tonight. He surrendered. Throwing up his hands, the shadow mutant, now bloodied, wet, and cold, offered himself to the silvery mutant as he lied in the snow.
"Alright, alright! I give up!" Shade exclaimed before his voice broke into laughter. "Take me away and lock me up!"
The entire situation might appeared to some that Shade had gone a little loopy, possibly mad. However, it was all part of the darkness mutant's plan. He was only joyously celebrating what most believed to be a loss for the shadow mutant, but what he knew was really a small victory in the games to come.
The visible part of Shade's face soured at Evelyn's criticism of his driving skill. It was definitely true he was a bad driver in need of much practice. However, the shadow mutant hated having any of his weaknesses brought into the light, especially in front of Lady Syn. Shade's unseen eyes shot Evelyn a fiery gaze that should have left her clothes smoldering. He was almost positive that her abilities would pick up on the small movement of his head, but they were in the presence of Order royalty so he restrained himself from lashing out at the blond. Plus, she would not be able to benefit the Order if she were dead. Turning his unseen gaze to the dark queen, Shade replaced his face with a smile, even if it was somewhat forced.
"Although cars are a very slow means of travel, they can be useful. Like during daylight hours when my abilities are rather hindered." Shade replied with an air of formality, casting a glance at the blond in hopes that she would drop the subject at that.
"Miss Evelyn, here, has a great eye for details. She sees things that other less observant people would miss. I think she should demonstrate." He continued. The last sentence came out hurriedly, as if he wanted Evelyn to prove his point and distract the attention away from his horrible driving skills.
(OOC: Sorry if my future posts are of less quality than usual. I have to rush through them because I have little time on the computer. I will try to keep up my writing ability as best as I can. Thank you for your patience.)
As the Order leader's cab started to pull away, Shade moved out of the shadow so he could get a view of the license plate or cab number. Stumbling to the edge of the building, he glanced around the edge, managing to see the set of black numbers on the trunk of the cab: 2210 Now with a reference, Shade hopefully would not be able to lose the cab.
That was if it did not manage to disappear to the sea of yellow Fords that was flooding the crowded streets of New York City. Shade managed to keep his eye on it before it started to turn the corner. Growling slightly at the lost of sight, the shadow jumper disappeared into a shadow and reappeared out of another as close to the place where he had seen it last. There must have been ten yellow cabs in front of him.
As he shifted through the mass of people on the sidewalks, trying to search for the appropriate cab number, Shade accidentally smashed into a street vender. The man shouted at the tall man in broken English as Shade blatantly ignored the disgruntled man. As the street light turned green and the cars started moving again, the shadow mutant could feel his chances of following the Adapted disappearing.
Although any "normal" secretary would have shown signs of irritation at the shadow mutant's blatant interruption, the perfect Lisa (almost too perfect, in Shade's opinion) merely nodded before saying she would contact her. Shade gave Evelyn a glance, wondering what her thoughts of the creepily good secretary were as she was obviously analyzing everything behind those blue/ grey eyes. Lisa quickly thumbed a text message to Lady Syn before stating that she would arrive shortly. It was glad to know that the queen of seduction was in.
With the arrival of the dark (and red) haired beauty, Shade's face broke into a genuine smile that lacked the harshness of his usual smirk. He gave his usual nod of respect as she addressed him, his gaze down.
"Lady Syn, nice to see you again, as always. I have brought you someone who I believe can be of great help for us. She has a very unique...ability." Shade said, trying to label Evelyn's skills of observation. He stopped there as the dark queen turned to the blond beside him to introduce herself.
Oh, this sucked! This sucked so bad! Shade was very stuck. The walls seemed to close in around him and restricting his breathing. A cold sweat was forming on his brow. His legs were not responding at all by this point. Shade needed darkness. He needed it now!
Struggling back and forth slightly, the shadow mutant tried to teleport again, but that blasted light in his face. It was still preventing him from 'jumping' away to safety. He could feel the darkness, just on the outside of the building. It was so welcome, so close; yet, it was so far away.
Pushing against the walls, Shade tried to flex the air duct out to allow him more room, but the walls were solid. Now, in a silent fit of rage, the shadow mutant pushed and pulled his all might, trying to get something to budge. The duct shook violently. The shadow mutant was sure the others could hear him below, but he did not care at this point. He just wanted out!
Suddenly, an arm managed to pop free. It felt like he might have torn something in his shoulder, but he was able to move. He was free. Using his freed, but injured arm, Shade sneaked out a few feet until he was enveloped in darkness. Once fully embraced, the shadow mutant immediately 'jumped' into the garbage can with a crash and exploded out of the trash in a fit of coughing. His legs collapsed underneath him as he fell to the ground, struggling to breathe, but happy to have escaped his AC vent prison.
As he lay on the ground, allowing the blood to return their regular flow to his legs, Shade glanced over his head at the street to see Lenna, just about to enter an awaiting cab. Struggling to his wobbly feet, the spying Orderling hurried into a shadow to disappear into the shadows. Luckily for him, the shadows were beginning their nightly growth. That would give him more places to hide.
As the deranged blond stumbled into a standing position, Shade tried to steady her by holding on to her elbow, but she shrugged his offer off. He chose to ignore her retaliation to his sarcasm. After fixing all the wrinkles in her skirt and replacing every hair back to where it was suppose to be, Evelyn finally seemed content with her appearance. When she had managed to make it to the concrete floor of the garage with a delicate leap, the shadow mutant pulled his hood over his head again, causing the upper half of his head to disappear in the darkness.
"Well...Evelyn, was it? I want to introduce you properly. You can call me Shade." Shade said, his voice returning to its normal harshness. His hidden eyes quickly gave her a once-over to ensure she looked presentable. The blond haired woman might have been studying him under a hateful gaze, but Shade paid her expression little attention. Once the shadow mutant was satisfied that she was acceptable to bring before the Order leader, Shade's eyeless gaze returned to her eyes.
"Short way or long way...? Alright, short way." He said, before giving her a chance to reply. Grabbing her by the hand, Shade dragged her into a nearby shadow before wrapping his arms around her again. After a quick trip through the void, the couple's feet touched the marble slab floor of the Sanctuary's foyer. Dragging Evelyn out of the shadow with him, Shade quickly made his way to the front desk.
"Good morning Shad-"
"Good morning Lisa, is Syn in? I have a guest that would love to meet her." Shade said, cutting off the secretary.
The quick car ride from the nearby coffee shop to the Sanctuary was a bumpy, but short one. It also showed that Shade should not ever be allowed behind the wheel of a vehicle. With the hard braking and serious heavy foot, the shadow mutant had obviously not driven in a while. In fact, he had barely driven after passing Driver's Ed in high school for the simple fact that it was faster for him to teleport.
Finally arriving at the Sanctuary's garage after twenty minutes when the trip usually would have taken only two, Shade turned the car into a vacant parking spot with a final hard stop. Getting out of the car, the shadow mutant made his way back to the trunk before opening it to see how his passenger rode in her oh-so-comfortable seat.
"Welcome to the Sanctuary!" Shade said, imitating his favorite Sanctuary secretary. However, it was full of sarcasm.
The blond mutant seemed less than pleased about her traveling arrangements to the Sanctuary. Of course, she did not know they were going to the Sanctuary, yet. However, Shade did not want any surprises from the woman before he made it back home. His captive had also seemed to have found her nerve again after having observed Shade's little invisibilty trick. And she was right. Traveling by vehicle was a horribly slow way to travel, almost as slow as walking, but the shadow man would suffer it for now. He did not want to have to 'jump' with a passenger all the way across town.
"You are right. I don't normally travel by car. However, it will be much safer for both of us if you ride in here." Shade replied, obviously a little irritated at the woman's resistance. Reaching down to his left ankle, the shadow mutant withdrew his black combat knife. "As for the daytime dagger problem, I always carry a spare. So in you go now."
The shadow mutant gestured for the blond to enter the trunk again. He would not ask a third time.
Shade remained against the wall, his arms crossed in front of him, as the winged teenager gathered the bags of cash. The kid appeared shaken, and there were so many things that Shade wanted to say. But he did not know how to say it. The shadow mutant could see the exact same thoughts going through the young man's head just like his own. Terror, regret, grief, gratitude. They were all there. And Shade wished there was something he could do, something that would help.
However, the fact of the matter was that there was nothing he could say or do that would changed what the boy had witnessed tonight. Shade had saved the kid's life, but in the process also destroyed it. He felt discussed with himself for the first time in a long time. He needed to change. He needed to get this blood off of his hands. He needed to leave this place where the memories from past would not pop up so much. So in the end, Shade could only say the words that he expected a partner to say. Did he mean it? He didn't knew know himself.
"Well if you ever need some help, let me know." Shade replied before the boy took off with much more baggage than the sacks of money he was carrying. After the beat of wings was no longer audible, the shadow mutant gathered his own bags and disappeared into the night. Ending up back at the Sanctuary, Shade appeared in the lobby to the ever-polite voice of the receptionist, Lisa.
"Good evening, Mr. Shade. How can I help you?" She said, smiling politely at the blood covered mutant. Placing the bags on her desk, Shade's eyeless gaze feel on the blond haired human for a moment before he released the bags.
"For the rent." Shade replied simply, patting the bags before traveling up the staircase to his room.
"Definitely, your ability is a great blend of beauty and utility." Shade remarked, a smile crossing his face as the Summonist began to reveal her artwork to him. The first piece she showed him was one the shadow mutant had already caught a glimpse of as Kenzi's had retreated to the back room to retrieve Greg. It was a pair of gorgeously, detailed black wings. As she pulled her hair in front of her to show off her artwork, Shade slowly traced the arches of the wings that poked above her tank top. He wondered for a moment how far they traveled down her back.
"You can't summon these yet? Man, I bet they would be beautiful." Shade said, as the receptionist looked over her shoulder at the Orderling. The next tattoo she showed him was the dagger etched into her forearm. Obviously, this tattoo was her favorite as she admired it, looking to summon it right there in the shop.
> “I love this one, it has served me well so far.”
"I bet." Shade replied, thinking how the dagger resembled his own ability to draw forth a blade from the shadows. Finally, Kenzi stood up and lifted her skirt slightly, showing Shade a nice view of a small pistol strapped to her left thigh, but all giving the shadow mutant a great view of her figure. His eyes followed her gaze as he glanced back to look at the tattoo artist. However, the man was completely consumed in his work. As she revealed the location of her last tattoo, a wide grin spread across Shade's face.
"Well you will have to show me show other time then," Shade said just as coyly, as he glanced around her body, trying to see where she might have it hidden.
"My only question is why would you need a whip if you already have a gun?" The shadow mutant asked, chuckling slightly at his own little joke.
Surprisingly, Shade's mutant captive was coming along quite quietly, which was a blessing as the shadow mutant did not want to have to drag the blond all the way to the Sanctuay. Maybe there was a part of her that wanted to see this place where she was accepted with her mutation. As they passed through different shades of light and shadow, Shade's body would blink into sight then out of sight, but his grip remained firm on the blond's hand.
Approaching a small conpact car at the end of the street, the shadow mutant was materialized a dagger before smashing the driver's side window out. Reaching inside, Shade unlocked the door before pulled the truck release. Hearing the audible pop!, the Orderling led his kidnapped victim to the trunk. Opening the lid, Shade jabbed at the trunk with his thumb, motioning for Evelyn to get in.
"Would you be so kind?" Shade asked, his voice full of sarcastic kindness.
