The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Serena glanced around the room slowly, taking it in. "Yeah, that definitely makes sense" There was that name again, Kalos? She was not familiar with it. God, she'd missed so many different events in the last few years it was actually crazy.
Blinking slowly Serena stammered "At- wait, did you say Atlantean, as in-" That was not what she was expecting. "I'm sorry, I'd heard about that whole thing, it's just a little bit of a shock. I guess I have missed everything and been away forever." She muttered.
Mirror hadn't really brought up Kalos, their catching up hadn't really involved that. There was conversation about Rebecca, about Sam, Amelia had briefly been brought up, and then the X-men came up.
Sighing mildly Serena shrugged. "It's sort of complicated. I know I don't bring up my family much, but it's because the first time I met you I was under the impression I was an orphan, then a few years later I find out I have this crazy historical drama level insane family in the UK." Her Grandmother in particularly was Queen crazy bitch.
"Then it was a few years after that I found out about her, she found me in New York. She's my half sister, technically speaking-" Serena hesitated. It wasn't like Rebecca would judge her right? "Same dad, her mother is my aunt."
Captivating? Breath taking? Oh. Boy. If there were a way to make a blonde blush from head to toe, Cait was probably very close to finding that button.
"You're not so bad yourself." She murmured. "You're certainly making it harder for me to breath like a normal person." She drained the remainder of her drink, planting it on the counter gently.
And then there was that look, the look that betrayed so many sultry thoughts floating around behind a beautiful pair of eyes. This was all so new and exciting, definitely not an environment that Serena had any degree of real practice being in.
"M-making the rules?" Blink.
"J-just to clarify this situation." She cleared her throat, her words were becoming slightly more disjointed. She'd had a lot to drink quite quickly. "I'm not sure if you know me from somewhere and I've just forgotten you, or if this is some elaborate pick up game." She floundered more, blushing most profusely.
Serena nodded. "There are plenty of people here to help you if you struggle, and nobody is going to pressure you to do anything. You can just take the time you need to sort out your life." It was so weird talking to Amelia like she was just one of those lost kids that had ended up at the mansion. Serena kind of supposed that she was now.
Serena sighed and tried to give Ami her best smile. It was up there. "Anytime, Ami." She smiled at the Doc too, a silent thank you for his understanding over her anger.
"I'm going to go and speak with admin quickly, someone will pop back over here shortly with a room for you, they'll take care of you." She hesitated for a moment before adding. "If you need me for anything, speak to them, they will know how to get a hold of me." She smiled one more time before turning on her heel and strolling over to the offices and doing exactly what she said she would.
It wasn't a normal request by any means, but the mansion staff were used to dealing with a variety of weird situations, and Serena definitely had some measure of respect from some of the staff so it didn't take her long to sort things out.
She then moved straight over to the danger room, taking ragged breaths as she went, barely containing herself as she checked whether or not it was in use.
When she discovered it was not, the blonde keyed herself in and started a program where she could just physically and emotionally let it all out. Thank god for the room, nobody saw her scream.
Serena tilted her head to one side, drinking in the sight of a younger Sam. He was so... pristine. Older Sam had this rugged damaged vibe to him, she supposed the eye patch probably contributed a ton to the vibe. The young one still had the self assured feeling to him, but it was different. Her teacher always radiated confidence, but she'd always figured it was balanced by experience, and just as much to throw other people off as partially actually true faith in his abilities.
The interaction was immediately easier than her ones with Amelia and Evelyn. "You could say that we've met yes." She had a knowing smirk on her face, of course he was hitting on her. She was well aware of older Sam's habits, but it had probably helped she'd effectively been a kid when she met him.
She put her face in her palm for a moment. "Of course you do. Typical." She rolled her eyes. At least this was easier than her other recent interactions. Little part of her had worried that when she bumped into Sam it would've involved a lecture, or punching each other.
She snorted. "I don't normally schedule, I just pop in when other people aren't training." Glancing around the scenario it looked pretty rudimentary. "I'm Serena. Way out of your league and also extremely, positively a lesbian."
Turning back to the young Sam with a smirk she added. "And if you want to train with me I'm more than happy to, I just hope that you can keep up, you're a bit more scrawny than the Sam I'm used to."
The writer nodded slowly. Most of Serena's friends were pretty out going, sociable and confident. Rebecca was a prime example, though Serena could usually keep up with most of them without bringing a conversation or activity down too much with awkwardness she couldn't really be blamed for bringing on the awkward in a situation like this one.
Serena smiled and was happily tugged over to a sofa to sit down, sitting next to Rebecca and glancing around. "The rooms are certainly bigger than I remember." She admitted. She'd not lived here as staff though, so it was probably different.
Once again, she was glad she was never going to deal with this. If and ever Serena was ever ready for kids, she was adopting.
Smiling timidly she thought she was ready to respond until Amelia was brought up. It must've showed on her face. She'd not spoken to anyone about this, but maybe she should? Serena spent most of her life repressing one thing or another, but Rebecca was a good, real friend. Besides that, it wasn't like she could avoid it. Becca was perceptive, and her face definitely darkened when Amelia's name was mentioned.
"No. Just a couple." She admitted, a little embrased. "My- Oh dear." had Rebecca met Alice, or did she in fact know about her relationship to Serena? Serena was aware she was an English teacher, and Alice had talked about her. But clearly the two hadn't interacted directly much. "The first thing I did, was see my little sister. We haven't spoken since before I met her, have we?"
Dear god, how did people deal with this? Was she just not built for flirting, or was there something weird going on with the woman? Maybe she was a flirtopath or something...
Serena glanced away for a moment, visibly taking a breath and turning back. "T-that was a I do-" She cleared her throat again. "I don't know how too adequately cover a response that doesn't make me sound like an idiot." Good god, her cheeks were on fire.
She took another deep breath. Clearly she wasn't averse to the situation, she was finding the other woman more and more attractive by the minute. "I-uhm. I don't really dance often. I'd make a fool of myself." She paused, trying to stop herself staring. "More than I am already."
Shivering a little at the motions she was looking right into Cait's eyes now, she didn't move to stop Cait's hand on her leg. "I'm not very good at this, whatever this game is..." She murmured, as she leaned a little further forwards.
Serena had gone through several phases between her teenage years and where she was now. When she was in public school she'd been a pretty typical social butterfly, if a little timid in some places, and then after her power had manifested she'd become a lot more anxious and quiet than she had been previously. Over time she grew into a more confident and secure young woman. College and the book had helped a lot, as well as dating, and meeting people like Rebecca.
This however, was making her feel like she was back in one of the first two phases. When Rebecca approved of the name, followed by a genuine sweet compliment to Serena the blonde blushed from head to toe.
Chuckling a little nervously. "Well it's partially my fault, and that wasn't nearly as mortifying as it could have been, only slightly massively." She moved to hug Rebecca again tightly. "Thank you. I'm sorry for accidentally outing you like that, but it does make me very happy how supportive you are of my whole thing."
She backed off and gave her friend some space before gesturing to the bag. "Well I came here with the intention of apologising, and then hanging out and celebrating your baby. We've only done the first one, really." a timid smile spread across her lips, the anxiety starting to melt away.
Everything Caitriona was saying to Serena was hitting her with another wave of fluster. There was just something about the way that she flirted that really spoke to Serena. Confusion about who the other woman was aside, there was something really refreshing about a woman being really upfront and honest. People expressing attraction to her could always hit that little awkward nerve in her anyway, but it was worse when it was someone Serena found attractive too.
There was this odd mixture of hints that the woman was dropping her that confused her. She was definitely interested in Serena, that much was pretty obvious. But while she was speaking like a woman introducing herself there was this underlying familiarity that was really confusing her.
And her hair, and her little sultry smiles and the touching of Serena's leg. Everything was sending little shivers up her spine.
Seeing her motion to take a drink Serena scooped up her drink, feeling the little buzz from the shot creeping up on her. She wasn't going to rinse through her drink like the other woman, she needed something to do with her mouth other than awkwardly stammering replies.
That was until she nearly choked on her drink, gently putting it down on the counter. She was the height of smooth and sexy, obviously.
"I-Uhm." She blinked, her cheeks flushing in a deep, almost crimson red. "I-whoa." God, it'd been a long time since someone had played havoc on her hormones.
Serena and Sam's training had been very personalised when they did it, and was mostly sparring in the past. With some power work here and there, but Serena was still most comfortable doing power training on her own.
As a result she didn't actually know very many of his training programs. It was always weird walking in on a paused simulation, like one of those really artistic photos of things in a scene paused mid-motion.
Picking her jaw back up off the floor Serena took a few steps forwards. "S-Sam?" What were the odds? She didn't see an eyepatch. Mirror had let her know about this, but she was so very not prepared to come across her old mentor in this state. What the hell.
Totally stumbling over the beautiful comment, the sight of him just sort of knocked the wind out of her. "H- Wait, are you training? How the hell did you work out your danger room codes?"
This was so awkward, it was actually unbelievable. How did you speak to somebody you had known for years, when really they had no clue who you were? Serena sucked at this.
Internally twisted in agony Serena was about to interrupt before Amelia stopped herself and apologised, self deprecating even more than she already had been. It was just shocking how different this Amelia was to the adult one. Even before the whole mind melding thing, Amelia had always exuded this confidence that Serena found highly attractive.
"It's quite alright, I understand this is hard for you. This whole thing." Truth be told it was probably just a shock for Amelia, she'd slowly get her head around it.
"Ami. You don't need to feel that way, you're not useless. This happened to you in the process of saving people. Before we fell out of contact, you were a very hard working cop. You were a good person." She really did believe that. A fucking idiot, but a good person.
"Look, spend a little time getting your bearings, I'll go and make sure there is a room for you while you get yourself together. It'll be okay." She wished she believed her own words. It might be okay for Amelia, but it wasn't for Serena.
The burning down the Brit's throat was quickly soothed from the acidity of the lime. Tequila with salt and lime was a college favourite when she actually wanted to get drunk, it was quick and easy. And according to her friends led to bad decisions, which she'd not really believed until now, glancing at the flirty bombshell that was assailing her.
Serena took a long sip of the other drink to settle her nerves before turning back to the woman. Her cheeks felt all hot and tingly, probably a result of the shot, right? "Well-uhm. I've only been here for a little while, they might not have had t-time?"
Part of her wanted to get a moment to herself, slap herself in the face and then re-enter the conversation. She was supposed to be good at talking to people dammit! And that was largely true, she'd done a ton of that the last 2 years with all the charity work. She'd even fielded several people's courting attempts, but most of those had been guys. It was so easy to shut guys down.
An embarrassed, excited little corner of Serena's mind realised it was because she was into this woman, and immediately excited by her that this was so hard. "Serena." She rasped.
She took another sip, trying to recover. "Maybe not this bar specifically, but a friend just gave me a list of gay bars too look at and I picked the first one.." Oh god, had she just admitted she was coming out to meet someone? Serena did her damnedest to crawl inside of her drink and die.
... Okay, so her knowing that Serena was British wasn't like it was a sign they might have known each other already, Serena had a pretty damn obvious accent. It wasn't like it would be hard to put 2 and 2 together for most people already. Who was this woman? There was just something about her that was different.
The woman was so cute, and so forwards and Serena was so out of practice. Even prior to her last, disastrous relationship she'd not done much of this kind of meeting people, most of the people she'd actually dated had been friends from classes and clubs and the like.
One of the bartender's brought the two of them some drinks, a couple of glasses of something that was probably vodka and coke, and a pair of shots on the side. Tequila. Oh good god Serena was thinking about just pounding that shot.
And then the woman got even more forwards, reaching forwards and touching Serena's leg, in a very suggestive and forwards way. Serena didn't recall any one night stands, was the woman totally mistaken or was this all some elaborate play?
Either way her pulse skyrocketed and she edged back a little bit, blushing much more deeply and nodding to the bartender. "Thank you for the drinks!" She stammered, quickly scooping up the tequila and throwing it back in a smooth motion. After the lime and salt thing she caught her breath. "I'm here alone."
Serena had started keeping some spare clothes and other supplies at the mansion, otherwise it would be extremely painful to commute every day for training. Part of her wished she could just teleport there now. She definitely wasn’t going to just move back in though, she valued her apartment and that aspect of her life too much. You couldn’t really fault someone for wanting to move away.
Rebecca and Mirror lived here, but it was more like Mirror’s home than most people, and Rebecca had left the US for several years before coming back a true adult. Serena went through the most important and difficult years of her life here, and her living apart from the mansion but still staying connected to it in several ways was sort of symbolic for her. Also she just couldn’t deal with all the people muttering when she walked past.
How had she, of all people developed a reputation for snogging people in the grounds?
She dropped off a couple of pints of her blood in the fridge for the Doc, and went and got changed into some workout clothes. It was around midday. She was pretty sure nobody would currently be using the dangeroom, and she needed to cut loose. Everything recently had been such a mess.
Apparently even Sam was now de-aged. Serena debated walking around with a gas mask, just to avoid this whole debacle. How was it reaching so many people? Was it all the same person? If it was, Serena hoped she enjoyed having a damaged jaw.
She moved to the door and keyed to be let in before being warned someone was already there. She didn’t recognise the program though, it didn’t look like Mirror or anyone she’d trained with recently. She paused it and keyed herself in, stepping inside with her gym bag before nearly dropping it at the sight. “Oh dear lord, you have to be kidding me.”
Amelia wasn’t exactly a master spy at the best of times, emotions were readable on her face. And even if this was a different girl to the one Serena knew, she’d known Ami for so many years, shared her bed. Shared her heart. She wasn’t making things any better, and it was causing little cracks to appear internally.
Unlike her Ex, Serena was very good at keeping emotions pushed down most of the time. She’d avoided dealing with Ami disappearing for two years after all. God, she’d avoided dealing with Jake's death for practically years also. She could deal with this later.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to patronise. Really.” She needed to be responsible. It wasn’t just the fact that she’d just die if anything else bad like this befell Ami. It was also that she was supposed to be setting a public example now.
Serena tilted her head a little. Tactful, huh? “As far as I’m aware, you’re single.” She could leave it there. That should be enough right?
And then Amelia continued, the Doc suddenly looked very uncomfortable. Apparently he’d picked up on some of Serena’s issues in her brief recent conversations with him. Sly old fox. “Yes, it is code for that. You could be dating somebody else that I don’t know about, I suppose. You’ve not been involved in my life at all recently, until today when this happened to you.” She kept all of the bitterness out of her voice, remaining very neutral.
There was this segmented corner of her mind, that was internally screaming. She kept it that way, apart from her conversation. Oh. She was going to kill some vampires in the danger room later.
Another smile crept across Serena's lips, it was much more timid than before though. "thank you, I'm glad to hear it." She rolled her eyes. "God I'm so dense. We should have done all of this two years ago." She muttered, more to herself than to Alice.
Serena snorted. "It's funny, I'm glad to hear you don't hate having the last name. I've always loved it, but my association is quite different." She did like being Serena Rivers. "Honestly, I think you'll love University. Even here it's so much more about independence and what you want to do with yourself than other people's expectations, You will fit in very well."
She choked out in laughter a little. "And there are many rather attractive girls for you to chat up. Though I'm sure you don't need much practice." Oh yes, Mirror had said they'd been training Alice. "It's really quite fascinating, isn't it? Recently I appreciate it much more for the work out." It was probably one of the only places in the country that Serena could actually cut loose, both physically and with her power.
Serena nodded slowly. "I understand Alice, I do. I didn't grow up with them, but dad had his own problems and It took me a long time to find my own assertive self. By the time Grandmother turned up and tried to 'help' with my life I'd already been an orphan for nearly 3 years, understandably I informed her to not let the door hit her rear on the way out."
"I value freedom of choice, a lot. The only situation I might ever override another person's is if their life was in danger, but that's very different from what you're talking about." It was funny she was a member of the X-men now. She'd intervened in so many life threatening situations by now.
"I feel like liberally applying alcohol fixes most of my awkward problems, but I do enjoy a clear head. You're welcome to drink whenever you're here though, just don't go spreading it around the mansion." She lowered her voice for that last bit.
