The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

As she crossed the distance to the door, having left her tea and half bagel on the counter a whirl of questions and thoughts were going through her brain, trying to frantically work out who or why it could possibly be before she reached it and turned the handle.
And then she did. It was Maya! Serena's body moved totally of it's own accord and she rushed to something halfway between a tackle and a hug. On later reflection tackling an X-man seemed like a bad idea given combat reflexes, but Serena logic tended to get muddled when friends and hugs entered the equation, go figure. "Maya!"
It would take a minute of her flailing in affection over the first friend she'd seen in... A while. Before the blonde calmed down and registered what Maya had actually said when Serena had opened the door. Oh.
The Brit's cheeks reddened a little. "Yes. Uhm. Well.." She floundered. "The irony is not lost on me." She blushed.
Letting out a sigh and squeezing Maya with more huggable goodness. "I've missed you."
Serena's cheeks actually flushed a little at that. Alice hadn't really seen her wardrobe had she? She did own jeans, she just tended to dress a little more traditionally feminine a lot of the time. And to be fair, she didn't exactly wear a dress when she was training or exercising a lot of the time, so her wardrobe did have some variety in it! "I happen to own other clothes thank you very much!"
Nodding and closing the door as she entered the room Serena glanced around and smiled. It looked SO much like her old room it made her heart flutter a little, the fact that Alice was into games too was pretty great. Even if it was significantly more so than Serena was herself. She had a little flashback to coming into James' room and throwing him completely off into his little awkward meltdown because she happened to know what game he was playing, and she was a girl.
Snickering internally at the memory she wandered what he was up to these days. "Er..." When had she ate? She cleared her throat. "I'm actually not certain, it might have been yesterday sometime." She rolled her eyes as Alice dove across the bed and dug through a snack stash. "Strawberry is usually my preference." Nothing wrong with chocolate, Serena just indulged in it a little sparingly these days.
Honestly she felt conflicted about being back into the city. Physically Serena was great. She was as pale as she ever had been, but her muscles were very well toned and she was in excellent shape. What a question, right out of the gate. She supposed her last few visits to Alice had been so fleeting. "I wondered how long it would take you to ask." Smiling inwardly she actually twisted a finger through her hair a little before looking back straight at Alice and answering. "I think I'm here to stay."
"Well not here-here, I suppose I mean I'm back in New York for the foreseeable future."
Serena felt a bit weird being at home. She'd already made up her mind for sure that she was staying in New York again, but normally when she'd been here her life consistent of rushing from one thing to another, and her limited free time had been taken up by doing things with her friends. Here she found herself with the clearest schedule she'd had in maybe 10 years and she didn't really know what to do with it.
She'd passed out on her sofa the night before and hadn't braved cleaning yet. Everything was just so... dusty. Her fridge was also absolutely, completely empty. Thankfully she'd not left anything in it when she'd last been here, but there also wasn't any food to speak of in the apartment. Glancing around she sighed, rubbing her eyes before going to her room and procrastinating the cleaning some more.
Everything was so much worse to clean given the sheer amount of space. A 2 bedroom spacious apartment had sounded so ideal when she'd bought it with the sales from her brother's old apartment and her savings, and in theory it still was. If she had friends over she had plenty of room to hang out, do silly things like adult sleepovers, and even had a room for them to sleep in.
In practice however more space was more to keep clean. Normally she didn't mind too much, but when it hadn't been deep cleaned in nearly 2 years the place was in such a state. It wasn't like there was food or anything on the surfaces, or clothes strewn everywhere, it just didn't look lived in, and that bothered her.
So in true top tier procrastination, instead of cleaning she got dressed into some workout clothes and went out for a jog. Serena had actually kept in excellent physical condition, neither her physical training, martial arts or power training had slacked since she'd been in New York, it was an excellent if exhausting distraction to slow her from dealing with problems.
After a lengthy run she picked up a tea and a bagel on the way back to her apartment, eating half the bagel just on her way up the stairs, it maybe wasn't the healthiest or best place to eat breakfast but it was a genuine new york bagel with all the usual, it had been so long and she just couldn't resist.
She made her way into her kitchenette and leaned against the counter taking slow sips of tea trying to gather the courage to start re-organising her life before she heard a knock on the door and blinked slowly. New neighbour maybe? It could've been Alice she supposed but this seemed a little early for her. She hadn't yet told any of her friends she was back yet either.
Bemused with a little curiosity the Brit wandered up the door and opened it, too interested in who it could be to consider that her apartment was a in a state, and she looked (rightly) like she'd just been out for a hard run.
Serena felt a little knot of anxiety she didn't even realise had settled in her stomach almost immediately melt away seeing her little sister swing the door open. It was still such a weird feeling to have all of this familial affection after the status quo being thoughts of family bringing only pain for so many years of her life. Well, initially. Then for a couple of years they were replaced with seething and anger, that was still there... Just not for Alice.
Her mouth started to open in greeting before she was practically yanked into a hug by Alice and verbally assaulted. It closed again and spread into a peaceful smile, she hugged back tightly and rested her head on Alice's cheek? She'd gotten so tall! They were about the same size now. "Sorry." She held the hug for a few more beats, enjoying the physical warmth and the emotional warmth.
"Alice calm down. I just got back into the state this morning, I practically ran straight here from my apartment, I thought I might surprise you." She admitted. They had kept in touch... Sort of. Well, Serena had spoken to Alice the last two years which was more than she could say for almost all of her friends in New York. Which was basically all of her friends.
"Besides, It was quite the sudden decision." She added. She was in Seattle not 24 hours ago.
Walking through the halls of the mansion was a decidedly odd experience. She'd done this a few times before, coming back after a lengthy absence, but something was different this time. Maybe it was largely the turmoil of the last few years having an impact on the way that she saw things, maybe it was just a fact of getting older...
Serena didn't have any trouble getting let in, even with her absence she'd spent more time in the mansion than most of the students that were currently there everyday, and she still knew a good number of staff. Funny how it managed to hold onto them for such a long time.
A pang of guilt rose through her psyche, flashes of her upset with Mirror for disappearing and not saying much of anything to her, or her other friends a couple of years ago. And then there was Ami. Feeling a fresh wave of discomfort the blonde quickly pushed those thoughts aside and went back to glancing around the frost dusted courtyard, and then the hallways of the mansion. It was just as packed as it ever had been, which wasn't really a surprise.
The massive building held so many fond memories for her, little flashes like old recording flickering through her mind while she walked around. Meeting a little blonde vampire late at night when she couldn't sleep, a fully nude gryphon flying through the doors near the kitchen and giving her an up close look of the male anatomy (shudder), her old roommate, who had dated said crazy gryphon boy, and even all the times she'd trained with members of the X-men.
Grinning to herself as she strolled through the halls towards the girls dorms she felt a little flicker of happiness as she walked past the girls dorms, remembering all the rushing out to meet her friends, one particularly hilarious instance of inviting James inside and seeing him crumble into a puddle of awkwardness on the floor.
Serena wasn't wearing the usual dresses and skirts today, she'd almost literally just gotten in from a long time away, thrown things in her very dusty apartment and then come straight here. As a result she was in bright jeans, a soft tie dyed top contrasted with a blood red leather jacket, her blonde ever so slightly curly locks hanging around her face. There wasn't quite a skip in her step, but it was pretty close as she closed the distance to a dorm she knew infact belonged to someone very important to her. She wrapped on the door gently one... two... three times, a sheepish smile plastered across her lips.
Alice lay perched, wearing very short jean shorts and a ripped black sleeveless top, sipping from a severed tube connected to a plastic package containing a crimson liquid that was most definitely thicker than water. She was occasionally glancing at the door to one far side of the apartment. The leftovers of sunlight where just barely visible behind the blackout blinds that were down all over the large lounge, highlighting the individual blinds with a reddish orange glow.
She lay with her legs extending out from her, just watching the blinds with quiet metal music on in the background.
She remained like this for about another half hour before the orange was almost completely reseeded, sipping at what remained of the blood pack whilst waiting for the sounds of life from the other room.
Alice took another sip of her drink between bursts of flirting before allowing another silvery laugh escape her lips. "Mmmmmmm." she let out a pleased sound and leaned on her arm a little more, gazing into the red head's eyes before responding. "I like the sound of that."
She took another gulp and finished her drink, setting it down indelicately. "I will quite happily skip many steps with you, as long as when we fall down it's into somewhere soft" the blonde purred.
She chuckled and let her other, now free hand move down to Cait's knee, softly drawing a few circles in it with her nail, absent mindlessly.
Alice's teasing smirk returned. "Darling, you really need to learn how to swallow your drinks properly." She chirped before chuckling at the comment. "Mmmm, I think you've got a nearly perfect balance of tone going on there, of course I'd need to be able to see more of your legs to judge correctly." She couldn't stop from laughing this time, that line was a little over the top and she clearly knew it.
Alice chuckled and gently grasped Cait's hand, her soft hand gently warming the other, as she leaned in to Cait's ear and almost whispered. "No, I don't usually get their number this way."
Serena's possible undertones of jealously annoyed her. She hated it when she felt something as petty as jealousy, she tried to be open and relaxed with things, especially where Amelia was concerned so when she felt jealousy or any tiny subtext of something like mistrust her emotions got understandably agitated.
The pause in Amelia's usually snappy responses but Serena a little on edge. Was something going on there? Was Ami annoyed by her little pang of confusion and jealousy? The blonde was pretty paranoid about doing something wrong where her girlfriend was concerned.
When instead of responding normally she gave a cut off response and the speaker gave off a level of interference towards the blonde on her end she held the phone out away from her head for a moment, blinking at it. Had she been cut off for some reason? She pulled it back to her ear just in time to hear the loud demands and her heart almost skipped a beat. She knew that her girlfriend was an excellent cop but...
Something inside her still wound up tightly thinking about the brunette in that situation. She quickly shook herself out of her daze, put the call on hold and swiftly dialed 911. "Hello, Hi I'd like to report a robbery, a bank robbery. It's happening right now, I was on the phone with my- she's in there, hurry you have to do something-" Serena rapid fire stammered down into the operators ear for a minute or so.
Serena chuckled at the other girl. "I was into it quite heavily when I was a teenager, but these days I feel like I sink enough time into creative endeavors that I just want some easy or relaxing entertainment, more than something complex or thought provoking, if you catch my meaning." She shrugged her shoulder to shift the position of the bag on it a little.
She really needed to learn to pack lighter when she was going to be in the library all day. At least it wasn't particularly hot outside, the walk back to her place would be fairly relaxing, or so she hoped.
Shaking her head with a little smile she chuckled. "No not quite, I live just a little off campus. It's about a 20 minute walk from here. Where do you live, if you don't mind my asking?" She inquired.
As the fight settled down and some of the men scrambled away, along with a bunch of the of the innocent bystanders and other people that had all showed up to help with the relief. There were terrified, pale faces all around. As a result, Serena positioned herself between the remaining men who'd been causing a ruckus and Geo himself, several orbs of blood floating around in front of her.
The snarl he'd automatically given off without thinking in her direction when she interrupted his... whatever that was, had caused her to be a lot more cautious about being around him. She'd met human and mutant supremacists in her time, and she didn't get along with either of them. She'd gotten the feeling that Geo might have leaned a little more heavily on that side than he'd indicated.
Her eyebrow raised. She wasn't going to just forgive and forget. People who caused unnecessary pain needed to be slapped down. Hard.
She cut off any further response. "Out of hand? Getting out of hand is taking a joke too far, or upsetting somebody." Her voice was deadly even, the orbs in front of her twitched a little bit. She wasn't just mad, she was furious.
Well... The blue haired teen's accent was certainly reminiscent of her Grandmothers, if with a much less pompous overtone behind each of her words. "Quest? I... Look-" she was so confused. Serena's comment on not having family wasn't entirely the truth, she knew her Grandmother, she just refused to acknowledge and speak to her most of the time, because she sucked.
Serena had only ever seen two pictures of her mother. One of them was a portrait that used to be around of her father and mother holding an infant happy in a picture, before she was born. The second, was a small cut out of her mother wearing a dress and showing off a half smile as she was laughing at the camera man (Serena's dad), which the man kept in his wallet at all times, and would occasionally show her.
This was definitely that woman, and she'd known her name was Elizabeth. Serena grasped the picture, her fingers shaking delicately. This was not at all what she'd been expecting when she'd opened the door. And that certainly sounded like something her Grandmother might say... Though she wasn't sure.
The confused blonde closed her eyes for a few beats, taking in a few breaths before re-opening them and forcing a smile onto her lips, leveling her gaze with the younger girl. "Look, I'm not saying I believe you, but why don't you come in. We'll talk some more, Alice." She offered evenly, stepping aside and gesturing to her apartment.
The fire's raging around the building were causing the air to distort and heat even more so than the budding summer temperatures were already doing, and smoke was spreading from seemingly everywhere, Serena did her best to limit her inhalation and drag the unconscious man from the dangerous gauntlet. Truth be told, she was terrified. Her arms were trembling as she dragged him from the fire, there were a million ways this could go wrong and end badly, but she wasn't about to let someone potentially die when she could help it.
She managed to get the villain in question outside and moved towards the police, only now noticing how much spandex he seemed to be wearing. And one of those face masks. Strange. She'd been more focused on not becoming a deep fried Serena during the fight, in defense of her attention span.
She stammered out a response to the police between a few coughs, trying to take in a few gulps of fresh air as the fire marshals went to work checking things. The officers quickly hand cuffed the assailant and allowed the EMT's to check him over, confirming that he'd only been knocked unconscious and that he'd recover. All of this, obviously much to Serena's relief. She didn't want to kill someone like, ever.
As soon as Maya's waving was noticed, Serena quickly moved over towards her, asked questions by an EMT and checked over very briefly before she was aloud to see her friend. She moved close and grimaced. "Ghost you look..." she murmured, leaving that last couple of words hanging.
Serena nodded happily. "Sure thing!" She'd not touched poetry in such a long time. She preferred novelist prose these days, go figure. She really should go through and look for some more reading recommendations sometime soon, she'd done a little too much of the writing recently, or the text book reading, instead of the fun stuff like bingeing a series...
Though, time was so limited these days, and she'd rather spend much of that time with Ami. She stood reflecting on this at the end of the stair well as Gina rocketed off to grab her poems and stuff.
She flashed a smile back to the enchanting gargoyle as she arrived. "You're quite welcome on that front." She replied. Glancing at the book in the other student's hand she blinked, shaking her head. "No, I'm not quite sure I have. I don't get around to reading as much poetry as I did when I was a teenager."
She smiled when Amelia agreed. She really didn't need to be embarrassing herself around the stunning brunette anymore than she already felt like she did. Ami was so in touch with things, and cool. And Serena was kind of a massive geek who spent most of her time writing or reading, or failing that training on her own to keep up her level of fitness and that.
She listened intently whilst the possible guests were listed off, trying not to give off any audible reaction to the fact that Ami had mentioned they were cops. Her thoughts on that subject confused and conflicted her the more she thought about it. She was just glad Ami was a serious badass and could handle herself just fine. She only worried a minimal amount compared to the past.
"I'll try extra hard to like her then." Serena chirped. If someone had taken care of Ami when she was still finding her way around with the whole being a police officer thing, she was definitely going to try and force some of those negative feelings further down and be nice.
Ridley? Why was that name familiar to her? She didn't think it was one of the cops she'd known from when her bother was on the force...
It came to her suddenly, along with a pang of something uncomfortable twisting in her stomach. "Ridley, as in the gentlemen your family was trying to set you up with before we started up dating?" She asked, doing her utmost to keep her voice neutral.
