The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Battle had a way of inspiring quick thought and decisive action. You never doubted your moves, you just acted, and the consequences would reveal themselves finality in the end. Whether good or bad, you could only rely on instinct to get you through the situation, and her instincts were being forced to respond at a speed she hadn't faced in years. She was the underdog: that much was becoming clearer. Every blow, every parry was loosing energy and she would have trouble keeping this up for long. But she wouldn't give up. She never di, and that's what made her different and intimidating.
Tses felt her bow staff move towards it's mark, but rather than hitting the man's chin, it hit his shoulder, and she felt the thud of the impact. Little tingles ran through her arms once more, but it was less painful than the force of hitting metal. Her arms were prepared now, and absorbed much of the energy with the response of her tendons. But even that wasn't enough to change the tide. Rather than retreating in pain like a lesser opponent would have, he acted offensively, and before she could pull the metal staff back, his hand wrapped around the object and she was in serious trouble.
Gripping hard on the metal, she threw her body weight on it and used it to jump upwards, narrowly avoiding his kick. It was a lucky move, which seemed to be the theme of this battle. Luck. Using all her upper body strength, she turned her body midair, sending her elbow driving backwards into him while still holding onto the staff. She moved like a cat jerking through the air: muscles coiling and extending with a memorized pattern. Her mind had one mission, one object: keep hold of the staff no matter what. The last thing she wanted was to loose her weapon, and that meant she would take the risk of getting pinned against him. Having your back to an opponent, even for the tiniest millisecond, invited danger. Her feet kicked down seeking the ground as her tiny frame twisted, trying to yank her staff free. But for a few moments, her light body was clear of the ground, her momentum her only defense.
If he responded quick enough, he could trap her with her own staff, and she braced herself in case the metal came pressing back against her body. Hopefully, at least one of her blows would land. If not, she was mentally reaching for her energy reserves for a more powerful escape plan.
Tses didn't know what would happen. She wasn't a mind reader, couldn't predict the future, and couldn't solve the mystery of where Ty went. But, she did know one thing. She would find some way to get through it. She always did. Butterfly may not be strong enough to do it alone right now, but Tses would help her through it. They certainly wouldn't have a perfect relationship, especially since moments like these were nearly impossible for Tses to make it through. But with baby steps, this would get worked out. It was like learning to walk on a ledge: you took one step at a time, and you never ever looked down.
"Strength doesn't come right away; it's something you grow into. I don't want you to have to be as strong as me. Just, keep your chin up, and don't worry about the rest." Tses whispered, and shrugged. "And you're not just someone to deal with. I may be a jerk most of the time, but I know what it's like to have no one, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I may not be the perfect 'sisterly' figure and crap like that, but I do my best to be there when people need me. You know where to find me." Tses said with a little smile. Then, feeling a little awkward, she slowly pulled away from the hug and rubbed the back of her neck.
Tses was used to being the strong one. She was used to holding it all together and when things fell apart, she was the one to pick up the pieces. But this time, she was the one in pieces. This time, she was the one falling apart. She could deal with pain, and she could deal with injury. She could handle so many things, but that feeling... the feeling of being so alone, so helpless...
There was a time not too long ago where she ran into a mutant that made that sort of fear take over. She managed to fight it by getting angry, and she felt she was stronger than her fear. But even then, the feeling of being alone was nearly crippling. Now it felt even more powerful. She closed her eyes, there it was. She was having fun then it returned. She was virtually running from herself, hiding from the demons in her mind. And they were winning.
But Ty was here. She could hear his voice, feel his hands run through her hair and run along her back. It helped keep that fear at bay, and made her feel more like herself. Her hands kept shaking and she was still a mess. But she wasn't going to fall apart. Not right now. "I just feel so....weak, and dumb and stupid..." Tses said, voice cracking slightly. She squeezed her eyes tightly to avoid any tears that would try to appear, and settled against him. "I just.... I don't like falling apart in front of you... I don't like you seeing this side of me..." She whispered, looking up at him. She looked terrified, an expression that rarely crossed her face. She could run across roofs and catwalk above certain death. She could pick fights with people who could snap her in two, and she didn't bat an eye. But this... this was was frightened her the most. Being real, and being vulnerable. He could hurt her so easily if he wanted to, but she trusted him not to.
"I love you too...And as long as you're there for me now, I'll always know you care." She whispered.
As annoyed as Tses was, she did listen to what Misses Stratfod said. Misses Stratford... She sure didn't seem that much older than Tses, but she had a way of talking that seemed she'd certainly done much more with herself. Tses encounted that problem more often then she'd like to admit. How many 22 year olds couldn't read? Or had never been to school at that. Her life on the streets had taken some things from her, and they were never coming back. That was just a fact. She couldn't be sophisticated and elegant. All she could be was herself, and if people hated her, well, they hated her.
>>"Everyone believes in some type of rules, even those who don't believe in them."
That....made no logical sense to Tses, then again, logic was always so elusive and fickle. Social rules, ok, she could see that, but to Tses, she didn't act how she did because someone told her to; she did it because she wanted to. She always felt there was a difference. As Sophia kept talking and wondering, Tses let her mind wander a bit, considering it. Were there still rules even when she chose what those rules were? Maybe she just had her own rules, and they happened to agree with society. She always just felt she was above rules, but stopping to knock on the door had showed otherwise. She had some boundaries, and she had some barriers. It just depended on the situation. "Well, maybe I'll just reword it then. I don't like being told what to do. Whether it's a rule or an order...I want to do it because I feel like it. I may stop and knock on a door, but it's because I know barging in won't give the the right result. I do it because it'll help in the long run." She paused and glanced around a corner, then back at Sophia.
"Authority has never helped me, why should I help it? Everyone will tell you something different.... some people will insist that cops are there to help, or that rules are there to protect you. But if I respected authority I would be dead by now, because life isn't gentle to a mutant. You rely on yourself, you're the only one who can let you down." It was a simple enough idea to her. She wondered what it was like in that calculated brain of Professor Stratford. She probably thought Tses was ridiculous, first of all, with the strips of cloth wrapped clear to her elbows, holding down a long sleeved undershirt, and topped with a t-shirt. The only skin that showed were the tips of her fingertips, her neck and her face. But even on the edge of her shirt tiny little scars peaked past. She doubted this girl ever had to really survive on her own. She could sure talk about rules, but she was born into privilege. It was easy to listen to rules when they benefit you.
"I think benefits really depend on the person. For instance, you tell a kid not to take an apple out of a bowl. That's a rule. But if they're going to have dinner later, that will be better than the apple, it's not much of a choice because they have an alternative. But take that same kid, starve them for a few days, and then tell them not to take the apple. They have no food, no other hope of food. They're not going to care what you tell them to do. They're going to choose to survive. Rules can benefit you, but they are meant to restrict you." There were some things you could unlearn, sure, but Tses didn't know how to unlearn her habits. It was easy for people to judge when they lived on the other side of the fence. They weren't the one loosing anything. She'd seen the city from the skylines, an infinite horizon of fire during a sunset; she'd seen the city in a snowstorm, a wall of white that bit like fire but froze like ice; she had the city in the palm of her hand, a playground to explore. Why would she surrender that for four walls and some rules? The trials were what made her strong.
Tses didn't know what to do as Butterfly kept crying, and she clutched the stuffed tiger against her as if hoping it'd give her the strength to get through this. Her own emotions would have to wait right now. Chloe needed her help a little bit more. Instinct took over, from a time back when she was hardly 7, and her baby sister was upset. She reached out, and slowly pulled the girl into a hug, and ran a hand through her hair like she would comfort Kelarii. As much as she resisted showing emotions and caring, she would have done anything for her little sister, and in a way, this felt almost as important.
"Hey, it's going to be alright. Whatever happens, you're going to be ok, got it? Ty will come back, but even if he doesn't, you're not just going to be alone." She took a deep breathe, trying to keep her voice calm, and pushed her way through the conversation. It felt like she was swallowing glass, but with every breathe, it went down a little easier. Bit by bit, she was going to get through this.
"I know, I know you don't know me. And I know I don't have much reason to care. But I do, and I'm there for you... Because when I was only 9 years old, something happened to me, and I was never able to get back to my baby sister. But I always hoped someone out there helped her through it. At least I can kinda help you." She brushed a tear off Chloes face, and gave her a little smile trying to reassure her. In her heart, she was busted up into a million pieces.
But just like so many years ago, she put on a smile and didn't let her 'sister' see her fear.
"No, we can stay." Tses felt herself blurting out, and she felt her cheeks tint a tiny bit. She glanced at her boots, then back up at him. "I just... I'm still a little.... I can't get it out of my head..." She felt herself admitting slowly. Her green glow shook slightly with her hands, and she felt the memories drifting through her head. She looked up out the open roof, felt the cold air against her face, but her mind still just felt emptiness. Empty and alone.
Without warning, she crawled from her seat over to his, and wiggled her way into his arms. It was a little awkward to maneuver there, but she was past feeling embarrassed right now. She just felt scared, and didn't know how to handle it. But as she felt the familiar feeling of his arm around her, some of the fear dissipated, and she shut her eyes, trying hard not to let a tear glimmer past. She hated being afraid, but the fear she felt was unlike anything she experienced before. The only comparable feeling was when the house caved in on her and she felt the pain along her back. But she was unconscious for so long after that, she didn't have time to be afraid. This time, she was trapped in her fear, and trapped knowing Ty would never come.... never care about her again. She needed to know that wasn't true. She needed to know he was really staying. She didn't want to be mad anymore. She wanted to be ok.
Tses wasn't amused anymore. She smelled like fruit and children and she was surrounded by stuffed animals. There was going to be issues very very soon, and her temper was finally giving out. The kid didn't have a clue, honestly, she didn't! She was just laughing and enjoying herself, and it didn't even seem to matter how Tses felt. She was just having fuuuun. Ugh, she needed a bath now... she smelt like....watermelons?
Lovely. Now the smell could match the green tendrils of powers she would have when she blew up the mall.
"We really should get going..." Tses started to say, then she was caught off guard at the approach of another child. Then they were back to square one.
>>"Penelope Peyton Pepper?"
Oh, the ever threatening full name. Full names were something you genuinely avoided hearing, at least, that was what Tses understood as a child. She always hated hearing her full name. it made her feel like she was under interrogation. One of the street kids wiggled it out of her when before she got her powers, and then teased her with it whenever she tried to get away. Ever since then she kept her name to herself. She was Tses, only Tses, and you could just deal with it.
She watched Penelope closely, and a small protective edge flickered inside her. While Tses was a jerk, and she could be a punk at times, she didn't like bullies, especially not with younger kids. Sure, she tried not to step in when it was an even fight, because the only way a kid learned to defend themselves was to stand up for themselves. But the tone in this girl's voice seemed to be beyond the 'stand up to them' phase. This seemed too personal, and too long going.
>> ""What’re…YOU doing here?" ----- Casually, Tses listened, and picked up the watermelon scented body spray while the two girls were occupied, and looked up as the conversation drifted. ------- >> "And what is THAT?"
Pause for a moment, evaluate the situation. Two younger girls, one angsty girl typically described as being a 'time bomb', and a little container of watermelon body spray enter the scene. There is a conflict between the younger females, while the young woman is is already annoyed, and looking for someone to take it out on. Her weapon, the body spray, is perched in her fingers, ready for action. Then...
SPRITZ!!!
She squirted a massive amount of the stuff on the girl, then looked completely surprised. Oh sure, it was on purpose. But she could act a little when she needed to. "Oh my gosh, I am sooo sorry, the nozzle was totally turned the wrong way! You didn't get that in your mouth, did you? I hear it really doesn't taste like watermelons!" Tses put on her dumb blond face and put her hand to her mouth, acting like she was horrified by what happened. But she did manage to move a bit closer to be slightly between the two girls.
Tses made a face at Ty's comments, and her cheeks turned slightly pink. But she ruined it by sticking her tongue out at him and scoffing. "I thought you already loved me forever." She remarked in a catty voice, then watched the city go past as they kept driving. It was pretty quiet out now, and in the distance she could just barely hear the sound of sirens. But they had left behind their trail of trouble, and now were somewhere quieter and remote.
It made Tses nervous being in the silence, and her hands started to shake again as she pulled her knees up close to her. It was dark outside, so she couldn't see much, but she reached out for the unseen light of the moon, drawing on it for strength. She couldn't be afraid forever, she knew that. But she let just the lightest glow of green energy flicker across her wrists like a barrier between her and darkness. She would never be trapped like that again. She had no reason to be worried. She would fight her way free of any danger, and she was strong enough to get beyond this. But the twinkling stars still seemed like dimming glimmers in a dark world.
As the car settled into park, Tses glanced over at Ty, confused. Her pulse had risen a little, and she wished she had his ability to relax. While he saw this place as romantic, Tses just saw it as confusingly empty.
Tses found herself looking more intently for Serena, uncertain how long she could keep up her 'friendly' attitude. She hated when people made judgement's about her, and she kept feeling prickles of annoyance with Misses Stratford. She seemed way too sure of herself. It may have been one of those situations where you were annoyed by things you had in common, but Tses would deny that. There was no way she was that snotty....right? "Everyone should have the opportunity to make their own choices. I gave her one." Tses shrugged. She glanced at walls as they passed, looking for pictures or something that would make this place seem 'homey'. She was surprised they hadn't run into many people yet, but surprised didn't mean she wasn't glad.
The next few questions made her emotionally bristle, and she was starting to feel like a porcupine was curling up inside her, pricking at her temper. "I'm not a student here because I don't like schools. Don't like rules, and don't like people telling me what to do. Like I said, everyone should have the chance to make their own choices. I made mine long ago. Not really a vigilante, just kinda stick to myself." She was starting to feel like an animal in a cage, and Sophia was poking through the bars trying to figure her out. The only thing she was succeeding at though was adding a dislike for the mansion and their occupants to Tses mind.
Tses blinked and glanced at him as he called her Luna. It wasn't a pet name she was aware of, and while hers had seemed teasing, he seemed serious. Inwardly, she wondered if this was another Sailor Moon reference. She had heard at least one of those recently, and was starting to wonder if she should look up this person and see why she was being compared to her, but she didn't think Ty would know either. He was smiling, and she made a note to ask his reasoning later when he wasn't quite so happy.
She let herself smile at the points, and shrugged. "Fine. Five points it is." She smirked, then the smile vanished a little as red and blue lights flickered from behind them. While she hated the sight of cops, she also had to laugh at the irony. Well, they did have terrible timing, so why would now be any different? Without waiting for Ty to say anything, she turned around backwards in her seat, and started making a little collection of glowing energy orbs in her hand. She kept them small so she could make more, then she sent them back out the open roof. Five little circles hit the pavement, and as the car rolled over them they exploded, veering it's path and sending it crashing into a parking meeter.
"How many points for a cop car?" She said with a wink, settling back down into her seat.
Tses wished she were as relaxed as Ty. He seemed to settle right into driving the car, and she envied it. While she was enjoying the rush, she was still battling with her inner demons and it made it hard to be as thrilled as he was. He reminded her of a dog more than ever now, but after his poodle incident, she found it hard to call him a puppy without risking offending him. Then again, when did she worry about offending people?
"When did we care what cops though? I say ditch 'em. Or is that too much for you to handle, pet." While she was being nice before, the pet names were turning a little teasing now, and there was a taunting flicker in her eyes at this last one. She watched the station wagon disappear behind them, then she looked at her possible targets. It was a shooting gallery all for her.
Her arms glowed with green energy, then she made three different tiny explosives. She sent the first one at a trash can, and it bounced off the lid, popping on the side walk. The second bounced short of the shopping cart, but the last landed in a can, and sent it skyward with an amplified POP, and knocked a few extra tin cylinders to the sidewalk. She smirked, and shrugged. "2 points for accuracy, 5 for style?" She asked, curious of his opinion.
Ok, so I HATE writing one of these, but I feel like I should if nothing else than to let people know I may be a bit slow on replies... This week is turning out to be "everything possible must happen NOW" week; I am one of two layout editors for my student newspaper, and my partner in crime is in London so I'm editing the paper by myself. I gotta finish a book cover, a comic, take photos for class, and the list keeps growing so before I loose all sanity, I am forcing myself to ease up a bit on the role playing to focus on some of the bigger tasks. I'll still be in and out of the cbox, but if you catch me online too much, scold me and send me back to work XD *clings to MRO*
Tses didn't know what to do. She was overwhelmed by a feeling of fear, and a feeling of hurt. There was no way she could voice her worries to butterfly. The girl would deny that Ty would ever leave them, and would say the tiger was too important. But they were important, and why would he ever leave them? Unless he just had enough. Maybe he just had enough and that was that. He wasn't coming back.
He wasn't coming back, was he?
She took a shaky breathe, and started to reach for Chloes shoulder, then pulled back, uncertain what to do. She didn't touch people. She never was the first one to comfort or call to. Not since she lost her baby sister, but Chloe needed someone. If it wasn't Ty, it would have to be her, at least right now. She got her hand to reach out, and tentatively set it down. It wasn't much; not a hug, or something that may have been more reassuring. But like her happiest smiles, her gestures of kindness were few and far between. "Hey, Ty's a tough kid, and if we can't find him, he'll find us. He doesn't leave behind the people he cares about."does he? A voice echoed in her mind. That was a worry for another time though.
Tses started to momentarily wonder if Ty was really the better driver as the car lurked backwards. Good news was, she was bracing herself, so she didn't end up sliding towards the dashboard. The last thing she needed was to get injured right now, especially while refusing to wear the safety restrains. She'd rather taste plastic than wear that dumb thing. "Brake is the big one, love." She said, rolling her eyes. "We don't have to follow those speed limit stuff though do we? It feels way too slow...."
As they started moving, she glanced at him and smirked. He looked about as crazy as she felt when she took her own joyride, and it was mildly amusing to see someone else as ecstatic. The windows and the roof came down, the second being a more surprising experience, and Tses poked her head out the top of the car like a prairie dog for a second, scanning the horizon with the wind needling against her skin. The world looked----and felt---cold, but hopefully the adrenaline would warm them up.
"I'm looking for like, trash cans, other basket type objects. You know, something to test my accuracy." She smirked at him with the word accuracy, making a small jibe towards his missed toss. "It's harder hitting things while moving, and the wind pushes my explosives around, so I need the practice. You know, in case I ever have to take out some baddies from a moving vehicle." She sank back down, rubbing her cold nose and breathing in the fresh air. She was feeling calmer now, that perfect little peace in the eye of a hurricane.
