The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The bar was dimly lit today, the few patrons lingering spaced out casually through the room. It had taken a few days to find the right set-up before texting Chrys to come visit.
Tses had wanted to plan this correctly. Over the past few months, she had noticed a new ability, and with each execution, she had stretched just what she could do with it. A casual suggestion here. A forceful command there. The cycle of the moon, the time of day, all of the elements that normally impacted her powers seemed tied into this manipulation as well. But Tses had felt strengthened by her discovery. She was almost giddy as she waited for Chrys to arrive and she could finally show off.
She chose a much more daring outfit than she tended to pick on her own. While Chrys was involved most days, this felt like a time she had to surprise her girlfriend. She had a thin sweater with a low neckline, her collarbone and the thin scars across her skin almost ethereal in the bar light. She wore leggings that showed off her figure, and a pair of boots that were easy to work in. Her hair was pulled to the side in a clip, for once not sporting the messy half-pigtails she was most comfortable in. Tses had a reason for the chair in style, though. She wanted clear vision to do what she wanted to.
There was movement, and Tses turned, smiling as a familiar face arrived.
Tses took a moment to compose herself before making the phone calls. It was difficult to get things in order when Chrys clearly had other ideas for break time. She didn't imagine much more talking would happen. Not when Chrys got moment's like this.
Once they were settled, she let herself give into the contact and attention, and let the jealousy fade. They would have more to work on, but that would have to take place in a different day.
The girl was, energetic, all of a sudden. Tses had to quirk an eyebrow at the mention of brain microwaves. Given her lack of pulp culture knowledge, that was a comment that was a bit beyond her. Why would you have a brain microwave? She'd have to ask Chrys later.
"No, it involves a bit more of a...I don't know. Someone compared it to a Jedi mind trick? I need to watch the movie to get the reference though. Sort of a 'you don't want to know I'm here'." Tses picked a direction and started walking that way. The subway would get them to the museum and then they could break in from there. As fun as the spaceships sounded, she knew her way around the museum better and could keep them out of trouble. Or, if they got into trouble, there was a higher chance Chrys could get her out of it.
"This would be so much easier if I could make someone else walk through walls with me," She did the legitimate thing and paid to get them onto the subway, given that the turnstiles were not easy to fool like security guards.
The hug took a moment for Tses to respond to, body slowly relaxing into the touch. She let her head find a spot between Chry's shoulder and neck, and blinked at surprise when she heard what Chrys was saying. Girlfriend? It did not escape her what a step that was for Chrys to offer. The other woman was secretive and reserved, to actually label them was it's own offering.
Tses pulled away and let herself smile, then risk pressing a kiss to Chrys' cheek. "I...I would like that. I will find a way to get better at this....not just the business part, but...the rest." She looked at her hands, running a finger across one of her scars. Then she paused, and glanced up for a clock.
"Your next meeting...I think we ran this one late now. I'm sorry," she reached for her bag and scooped out a phone, checking the rest of their timeline. "I can move it back, and this one had a break, so it'll be more rushed but we can make it work...." she got several messages from Elizabeth checking whether they were ready. She rubbed her forehead, feeling the double sensation now that she shared it with Chrys. She needed to get her mind back in order if they were going to finish this day better than it had begun.
Tses felt her muscles relax as the kiss settled onto her forehead. What activated Chrys' powers was more than that this time. It was a reassurance that Tses was not abandoned, she was wanted. She had something to offer and appreciate. Years of feeling worthless had traumatized the will-o'-the-wisp to the point even the outfit's she wore reflected her lack of self-value. Chrys had a toy, but it was broken, and time was needed to keep repairing her so she could be better.
Tses found herself looking into Chrys' gaze, and knew the sentiments were genuine. Her body relaxed, and she felt the last traces of anxiety fading. She pressed her face against Chrys' hand like a cat, holding onto the touch for a moment.
"I'm sorry," she remarked finally. "I didn't mean to misbehave. I just... I'm learning." Hell she was learning so much. Reading and numbers, how to do business and relationships at the same time. She had the first moment to really feel exhausted by it all. While she was used to sharing the more pleasant sensations with Chrys she wondered if the opposite was true. The feeling of tired muscles from learning to wear shoes and outfits she wasn't used to, and the ache in her jaw from clenching her teeth so tight.
Tses tried to listen, but her mind had hit a rut and it felt broken now. She just kept remembering the darkness, the emptiness, the pain. She was standing there, glowing moonlight, desperately wanting contact and truly terrified by it.
Dress up. Chrys just wanted to play dress up. The comment was so innocent Tses almost felt ashamed for how she was feeling.
Tses looked up, and the rage in her eyes had settled some. Now there was just fear.
"What if I am not entertaining enough for you? What if I'm not a good pet? You can find someone else, and if you do, I have nowhere to go," Tses whispered. She shivered slightly, looking down at her hands and the green light, watching her body move from solid and back again with her emotions. "I don't have a home, I don't have an identity. You can find another pet, you can replace me. But I don't want to be let go."
As she said it, she forced her body to solidify. She needed contact, she wanted contact. She was fighting her own mind against the emotions that had disturbed them. "You can have other playthings. Just don't get rid of me. If I have to find them for you, or help, or watch, I don't care. I just...I don't want to go back to the darkness again."
Tses was struggling during the meeting. Her mind was racing and she kept seeing the looks being exchanged between the two women. Tses knew Chrys had other playthings. It would be foolish to assume she alone could entertain someone as powerful as Chrys and as...energetic. But Tses was still afraid. She saw the way the other woman interacted, and how pleased Chrys was. Surely someone more powerful would be suited for Chrys? Someone with business sense, someone who could f***ing read. Tses could see a thousand reasons why she was not good enough, and the anxiety was reflecting in her powers. Her anger and fear were overlapping, creating a coil in her chest.
Chrys was coming back to her, and Tses tried to listen to what was being said. Was she okay? She wanted to say yes, but when Chrysanthemum reached out, she reacted without thinking. Her body went to light form, and stopped the contact. It was the first time she had avoided being touched by Chrys, but the fear had gotten too strong. Her arms crossed tightly over her chest, and her eyes blazed, anger trying to cover the fear. "Why don't you go make Elizabeth happy. You wanted me to look more like her anyway," she snarled.
Why did that make her so upset? Was it because they worked together and Chrysanthemum had more time with the red-head? Or that Tses was reminded she wasn't good enough as she was. She needed work. She was a broken toy and how could a broken toy ever entertain Chrys for long when there were so many perfectly ready ones available? Tses shut her eyes, breathing through her nose. There was a flicker in her powers as she forced control again, eyes tight against the sting of tears. Damn it. She was trying to shake loose from the emotions, wishing she could phase them away like she could avoid everything else.
"Replaceable." She wasn't aware she said the word out loud, it was ringing so loudly in her head. She wanted to run. She wanted to escape before the disappointment came.
Tses was silent as they finally left the obnoxious front desk woman and stepped into the elevator. Tses was still mentally torn after seeing Chrysanthemum with her subordinate. Was Tses really just like all of the others? No, she lived with Chrys. She wanted to think there was something more there. Her mind was torn from it's thoughts by the contact from the woman behind her, and she made a very not-work-appropriate moan at the physical contact. Her brain got fuzzy, distracted by the sudden heightened sensations. She was enjoying the contact enough she almost missed what was being said.
Then the name got dropped and it was a sour taste in her mouth. Like Elizabeth...
Oh, so Chrys wanted her to be like Elizabeth, enough she would change Tses' hair?! Her brain did a dance between rage and excitement, she was being complimented and insulted at the same time. This was different though. Tses and Chrys had their own games they played, but she was always very aware of her position in those. Right now, it was like being put down when Chrys thought she was still praising. Tses did no like that, and her jaw clenched as Chrys pulled away.
She was horrible with words, terrible at saying how she truly felt about things. But eventually, this situation would unravel if the jealous snake in her stomach was given much more ammunition. She did not like sharing Chrys, she did not like seeing the other woman dote on someone, and then compare Tses to them. Was Tses not good enough? Replaceable. More than replaceable. What if she was already a passing distraction ready to be thrown aside?
She just had to do the job right. She needed to show she could handle this, maintain her position in this relationship. Relationship? Tses realized she hadn't said much and quickly looked up the contact that was mentioned. "Your next meeting is Vivien Vale of Vale Pharmaceuticals." Tses said as professionally as she could manage. She had to casually tug her shirt to straighten it out, touching a stray hair and biting her lip. Then she stopped. She wouldn't comment. It was just a passing incident. She could handle this.
When the other woman finally arrived, however, all that rage came bubbling back to the surface. It was worse. She could barely focus on what was being said, little flickers of green light painting her nails, trailing up her arms.
Maybe she should have said something when she had the chance.
The touch was small, but enough for Tses to feel rewarded. For someone who hated physical affection, Chrys had turned it around in her mind to be something she wanted. Here she was in heels and this silly skirt, but she was trying, she was doing her best to be something better. The doubt lingered in her head that she would not be enough, that she would be abandoned again. It was what kept her learning to read, trying to make sense of all these phones and tasks. She could still feel the darkness that absorbed her once. She didn't want to go back. She wouldn't go back.
I'm not sure any measured up to you
What if they did? Would she be just a forgotten toy then?
The doubt kept eating as they approached the front desk and Tses caught sight of the redhead. Her temper bristled slightly, and her jaw clenched as she watched the exchange between Chrys and the girl. This... this was fine, this was work, she didn't need to feel worried. But, hearing praise given to someone else cut, and Tses felt like a rope was wrapping around her lungs.
The feeling magnified when Chrys touched the other woman's hand. She didn't like that. A territorial snake rose up inside her, wrapping around and around her spine, her stomach, her throat until it seemed to settle with a painful clamp inside her. You'll be forgotten. You won't be enough. She gives praise so easily. You won't be enough.
She almost couldn't feel the hand on her own shoulder, the spike of jealousy hard to shake. Play nice? Could she play nice. Tses gave a small nod. "I will do what is needed." Her words sounded a little flatter than normal. This was just another challenge, and she would have to meet it somehow.
Tses considered the question. What would stop them from getting in trouble? She looked around, perhaps wondering if she should say much right now. With her connections to various crime organizations, there were plenty of reasons for secrecy, in the long run. Randomly saying 'I can brainwash people' seemed like a quick way to get those padded coats the woman was mentioning. Tses did not want that type of fashion statement. Chrys rescued her from a morgue, she didn't need to pull her out of the loony bin next.
"Let's just say, mutants have more than one ability sometimes. Explosives are a bit obvious, there are plenty of ways to get what you want with persuasion as well. If I had a way for them not to stop us, would you try it?"
The woman looked like she could use some fun. Adventure, danger, those things just sounded like good ideas today. Tses wanted to see what she would agree to, and in doing so, what she could do for fun today. She wanted a little adventure to make her feel like she was still a thief.
Tses accepted the hand, and grinned. "Tses. Nice to meet you Spencer."
Tses was trying very hard to maintain her composure, but she was a little stressed following Chrys to work.
The outfit wasn't outrageous, but she had to practice walking in it around the penthouse for a bit to feel like she could handle the difference in style. Trying to walk in skirts was something she had to relearn a bit in recent adventures. With her old attire, she wore shorts under her skirt, so the general manners of keeping her legs closed and walking with smaller steps were not so important. In many ways, she had an almost careless way of movement, much different from the reserved steps she had been practicing.
The bag was new. Actually, holding any handbag was a bit of a change for Tses. She never needed a purse before, most of her outfits had pockets on them, and she stole so she never needed money. And there were the phones. Message to be handled, routed, sent to Chrys.
The idea of so much responsibility may have made her panic before, but she was settling into her role with Chyrs well. She wanted to do well. She wanted to make Chrys happy. That made her feel happy herself. "The lessons are going well. I have picked up more than I expected over the years, I feel like I was missing the basics more than anything. I believe I can manage fine." Tses knew Chrys gave her challenges, but rarely was it something that could risk horrible failure. Tses could sound out words much more readily, and if she could do that, she was smart enough to figure out the words. Writing, she would need more practice. But at least it was a start.
Tses was pleased Chrys was telling her things. The more trust was exchanged, the less anxiety she felt. Sometimes, she still worried Chrys would stop finding her useful and move on. Tses worked hard to learn the drinks tonight to maintain that interest. She was clinging to a sensation of being wanted, and the more she felt that, the harder she tried to keep it.
Feeling Chrys admire her was intoxicating. She resisted affection so much in the past, but now it had become something she found herself craving. It didn't matter if any of the other patrons looked her way, only one set of eyes were wanted. "I am impressed with everything I've seen here tonight. As much as I enjoyed spending time with you before, I am more than happy to follow someone as capable now." Tses wasn't used to shelling out compliments, but she meant them. It was an effort for her to put thoughts into words, while Chrys had the advantage there. She watched the drink be tasted, and was glad it met approval.
Tses felt a shiver down her spine as Chrys leaned close. It was hard not to be distracted by the promise that followed. Tses felt a bit of excitement show, and already knew what she wanted. "Let me be useful to you. I'm sure we can find a few things to do that meet that." Tses decided. Then she returned to work, knowing they would have a full night ahead of them.
Tses smirked a little at the comment. 15 ways to make a dude dead sounded pretty accurate. "I mean, only takes one explosive to kill a guy. Mine happen to be small enough to swallow... But that would be messy. I prefer more evasive strategies." Despite her life of crime, Tses had never actually murdered. She had dated people who had, which dirtied her own morality standing, but there were plenty of ways to win a fight without getting blood on your hands. It wasn't a point to bring up with strangers, though.
Currently, the topic of interest was breaking and entering. That, she did a lot of. Area 51 would have been fun, but the other ideas, they had merit.
"Restricted areas are the best, frankly. I tried a few banks in the past, but chances are you would run into one of those anti-mutant guards and there goes your escape route. I prefer lower profile things. Oh! I know a good one." She pointed her thumb down the road, the idea coming to mind. "There's a space museum down near the water. We I hear they have all kinds of shuttles and stuff there. I don't know if there is a lunar lander, but we could explore the rest of it? Or do your plans for the day only include being hungover and finding caffeine." Tses taunted.
The coin was given, and Tses had finalized her first official recruitment. She hoped it would pan out. She would be pissed if she disappointed Chrys because she chose to hand off the coin to the wrong person. "Just keep that with you at all times. Easy enough not to lose unless you plan on going to Canada sometime soon." That seemed to be the running joke among the Syndicate. One of these days someone was going to end up there and ACTUALLY lose a coin at this rate.
"If you need anything, you can swing by here. I'll be spending more time manning the bar, I here. If not, Willow knows how to find me." There wasn't much to do other than show the mutant out. "Until then, we'll be in touch." When Seven turned to leave, Tses would have disappeared the way she came.
Tses felt the answers given were straightforward, which honestly was hard to find in her line of work. Less than legal, fighting for money, and willing to take a job for a payday. After considering it, Tses made her choice.
”Actually, I may have a proposition for you. I don’t have jobs directly, but if you want to come along for a chat, I can introduce you to people who can always use good talent.”
Tses knew the Atlantis was in walking distance. She tended to stay close to work even in her days off. When it seemed the other was willing to bite the bait, Tses led the way. There wasn’t trust between them, more like a businesslike manner. Tses had stepped in and earned a right to be heard. Now it was up to them whether they maintained interest.
At the bar, Tses greeted Willow and made the introductions. Then she took a seat, leaning back on the counter.
”What I can offer for now is a sort of trial run for you. We will give you a coin that can get you access into this bar, marks you as one of our associates. There may be jobs we can use you for, and if you price yourself, it goes from there. You seem like you got a few enemies, but maybe having a bigger fish behind you could be an advantage. But I’m sure you also realize we have to watch our side of things too.” a big fish didn’t just go around protecting guppies. It would be a testing process to see how Seven would do.
