The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lennox was acting awfully funny. For a short while, he just stood there, as if he were possessed. There was something just a bit creepy about him, but Clyde had no clue what it was. At least Miles' shouting about something near a tree seemed to snap him out of it.
There was a girl, maybe around eleven or twelve year old, hiding near the tree some distance away. Miles might have figured something out. She was not screaming about monsters or anything else, but seemed really scared in a different way, the type of fear that makes a person want to hide. The guy's hellhounds probably weren't helping. Was she really the mutant behind all of this? Clyde had been expecting someone doing it all on purpose, but a girl who lost control of her powers or something made sense, too. She probably didn't quite understand why everyone was so scared, and that was making her scared herself. As they got closer to her, these illusions were getting more real.
“You might be right, Miles,” he called out, still running behind the dogs.
And then came the terror. Suddenly, a horse-sized spider lunged at him, pinning him to the ground. This one was so real that he could feel the pressure of it holding him down. It's not real it's not real, he keep repeating in his mind. Even the knowledge of the trickery was no use. He struggled against the imaginary monster, but it did no good. It wouldn't let him back on his feet. He thought about shifting, but that wouldn't work, either. Running around and getting attacked by a dog, not to mention already shifting earlier, had taken too much out of him. He was helpless and he hated that fact. That spider continued looming over him, staring at him with its eight unblinking eyes and snapping its mandibles. It wasn't attacking, but it was frightening. He was breathing so fast that he was not able to say anything.
He hoped that this girl was indeed the cause, and that the others could help stop the hallucination. Fast.

As they prepared to charge back into the chaos, Miles shouted that they should stay alert. They all still had no clue what to look for, so all they could do was observe the area and try to find the cause. As much as Clyde hated being a kid, the better option was to let his form snap back. His focus had to be on finding the cause, not staying shifted nor thinking about how much his feet were killing him. For a couple of seconds, he felt that weird pain that came with returning to normal, the pain that felt like his entire self was being compressed.
While he took the time to shift, the hellhounds and the other mutants had begun to charge back towards the area where he had first seen the spiders. He sprinted in order to catch up to them, the whole time cursing them and their long legs.
Now that he was closer to the chaos, he could see there were giant arachnids everywhere. Despite knowing about the hallucinations, those dang spiders weren't looking any less scary. If anything, they were getting larger and more fierce. Okay, maybe that was because he'd returned to normal, but Miles was completely wrong about them being small. Again, he had to remind himself that it was all in his head.
The people nearby were even worse off. Many were thrashing around and injuring themselves trying to fight unseen monsters. He tried shouting, “Stop! They aren't real,” to them, but they were far to preoccupied with their fears to even hear. If they didn't find this possible mutant soon, those people were going to seriously hurt themselves.
Lennox had taken a moment to turn around and show concern for him and Miles. Clyde neither needed nor wanted concern – he believed he could handle a few scary illusions. “Oh, sure I'm all right,” he answered him, sarcasm evident in his voice. “We've only got a dangerous situation on our hands!”

It was just occurring to Clyde that both of these teens seemed to be mutants themselves. The one who called himself Miles seemed to be mind-controlling the demon dogs, while he teen who introduced himself as Lennox was seemingly immune to the hallucinations. Once Miles was finished testing what he was seeing with the dogs, the three of them seemed to be on the same page about the situation.
“Clyde,” he introduced himself to the other two, in part because the others introduced themselves, and in part because the injured teen called him shreads. He didn't appreciate being given any other nickname, for that matter. He noticed that guy was wrapping his injured arm in a long bandage. Strange. What kind of guy kept a bandage like that on him?
Again, the oversized spider was trying to climb his leg. He had to keep telling himself that it was not real. It looked real, though. The creature made him want to scream, but he did his best to ignore it. They definitely needed to do something fast. Miles sounded like he was on to something when he suggested that Lennox might be able to find the source since he was unaffected, but from what he said, he looked just about as clueless.
“Not sure what's causing this. A mutant, probably,” he said to the other two teens. He knew well enough that mutants could do many things, but he hadn't had much experience meeting other mutants, let alone trying to single one out from a crowd. “Not quite sure how to pick them out. Maybe someone who's acting strange,” he continued, shrugging his shoulders. How was a person supposed to look when making people see terrifying things? All he could do was throw out ideas.

Answering his slight concern, the girl claimed that her twin was fine because she was not real. What did she mean she wasn't real? She looked real! He soon concluded that she was simply pulling his leg. She was extending her hand out for a handshake and saying that her name was Elke. That was an unusual name. And, of course, there was the usual confusion regarding his appearance.
“Clyde,” he responded, cautiously shaking her hand. It seemed an oddly formal greeting for a young kid, so Clyde was suspicious that she had something along the lines of a hand buzzer hidden. One could never be too careful. He was trying to decide how to reply to her observation when...
>>”My bag!”
The backpack's owner, a large, fellow upperclassman, decided to drop by. He was quickly zeroing in on the dumb twin and the bag's scattered contents. Clyde could not tell for sure, but he seemed pretty ticked off. He hadn't been at the school long enough to even know the guy's name, but he guessed that out of all owners the backpack could have had, the owner being this big guy was probably the worst case scenario. Would he try to hurt the girl? Maybe he was really laid back and he'd let it slide? At that point, Clyde had no clue as to what the big guy would do. Even worse, he was not that far away from the culprits. He might get seen as an accomplice. All he could do was wait for what came next with a startled expression.

The gruesome deed done, Clyde finally had a moment to breathe. The shorter of the two teens was rambling on about being surrounded by thralls that were black with red eyes. Funny. The only things that fit that description were that guy's two demonic hounds. Then, he turned to him, asking about what he killed.
“Damn spider,” he muttered, not really in response to the owner of the attack dogs. It should have been obvious. It was still recognizable as a spider. Strange.
A sudden, violent barrage of yelling from the injured teen startled Clyde. Too shocked from the outburst to process what the guy was saying, the only thing he could pick out was that the guy just called both him and the other teen idiots. True, he was righteously angry about getting mauled, and the dog owner could be considered an idiot for bringing those creepy canines to the park, but why was he getting labeled an idiot as well?
Gathering himself, Clyde fixated his glare upon the tall teen. That guy had already calmed down and told them what they were seeing were illusions of their worst fears. Come to think of it, that explanation actually made sense. Why else did the hellhound owner not notice the spider going after him? Additionally, not everyone was running from spiders. The shorter highschooler was ranting about thralls. Other people were instead screaming about things like demons, men with guns, snakes, and swarms of Justin Biebers.
If the spiders were not real, and he was indeed hallucinating or something, it could mean only one thing. The whole time, he was whacking a nonexistent monster spider, not to mention he was a teen wearing kid's clothes, so he probably looked completely ridiculous. This was embarrassing, though Clyde was determined to not let it show.
“I guess we'd better find the cause,” he said. If what was scaring everyone was some elaborate illusion, people might wind up hurt. He redirected his piercing stare at the teenager with the injured arm. “By the way, I'm not an idiot,” he asserted, narrowing his eyes.

Finally, the dogs' owner was yelling at them to stop, and oddly enough, they did. He seemed apologetic about the whole situation, but seriously, what was he thinking when he brought them to a park? The action seemed completely idiotic. That guy even went as far as to claiming that they only attacked because he was attacked. Was he referring to being hit in the leg? That wasn't an attack! “That spider jumped off before I could squash it,” Clyde grumbled, leering at him. The whole time, he kept the stick at the ready, in case those dogs decided to attack again.
The guy who had fought the bigger dog certainly was injured. It looked like it had tried to bite his arm off. Clyde had to admit to himself that that guy probably saved his life because he fought the larger demon dog. If both of those hellhounds had gone after him, he likely wouldn't have been able to fend them off.
Next thing he knew, the hellhounds' owner was ranting to the other guy about thralls and walking through them. Thralls? The teen walking through them? What was he talking about? The teen who fought the big dog seemed just as confused. He was asking what he was talking about and why the dogs attacked. Clyde wanted to know those answers as well. “Seriously,” he questioned, “what were you think-”
Something poking his leg distracted him. Clyde looked down, and – the spider from earlier was trying to climb up his leg this time!
“AGGHHH!!!” he screamed with his little kid voice, jumping back several feet. “Killitkillitkillit!”
The spider touched him. The spider scared him. The spider was a spider. Therefore, the spider had to die. Whap, whap, WHAP! The stick hit the ground several times before hitting its target. When it finally did, it was pretty messy (best leave it at that).

It was a swing... and a miss. Instead of smashing the arachnid, he managed to hit the hellhound guy square in the knee. Oh well. The hit wasn't THAT hard. He could consider it payback for picking him up earlier.
Unfortunately, just when Clyde was beginning to believe the owner had those dogs well trained or something, all of a sudden, those very dogs were viciously attacking him and the other teen. It seemed the larger dog was preoccupied with the other guy, but the latter was going straight for him.
Clyde kept the stick out in front of him, ready to prod the smaller hellhound back with it. Even though it may have been the smaller of the two, it was still pretty big compared to him. For a second, the demon dog growled and nipped at the stick, then it popped up, chomping on his right-hand wrist.
“AGGHHH!” he screamed, dropping the stick. It was not deep wound, but it still hurt. This dog, whatever it was, was dangerous.
True, he could shift and improve his chances against the hellhound, but – oh, what the heck? Those dogs were attacking. Besides, most of the other people were likely too panicked to even take notice.
Within a couple of seconds, a stretching pain spread through his body as he turned into a teenager about the same height as the dog teen. Seams on the sides of his shorts and shirt burst as he grew. At least the waistband in his shorts was elastic enough so that he wasn't too exposed.
As soon as the dog opened its jaws just a little to try to get a better hold of him in his shifted form, he took the opportunity to yank his arm free of its grasp. Quickly, he rolled to the side, retrieved the stick, and again held it out in between him and the hellhound.
Glancing over, he could see that the other dog had done some damage to the third teen. That guy had a pair of dangerous creatures that just attacked. The irresponsibility of it all made Clyde furious. “WHY DO YOU HAVE THOSE THINGS?!” he shouted at the owner, still guarding himself against the dog with the stick.
All over, he was aching from the struggle. The now-too-tiny shoes were killing his feet, and as for the bite, he really hoped that these red-eyed dogs had had their shots.

Nothing there? There was a giant spider going after them! “Ah you crazy! They're aftah us!” he shouted at the highschooler, though those words likely fell on deaf ears.
Suddenly, the teen stopped and shouted that the monsters were right ahead. There was nothing in front of him! The spiders were coming after them! Clyde watched as the two hellhounds were about ready to defend against against a non-existent enemy. This guy was telling him to stay near the dogs. No doubt about it; the red-eyed dogs were definitely his. Why in the world did a teenager have a pair of hellhounds as attack dogs?
That thought aside, Clyde looked down to see the horror of a lifetime. The cat-sized spider from earlier was climbing up the guy's leg! It was going to bite him or something! How did he not notice that?! Searching the ground, he found just what he needed: a thick, two-and-a-half-foot long stick. That should do the trick. “Seriously. Don't move!” he said firmly, but shaking. This was going to be dangerous, and potentially very messy. He swung the stick like a bat, attempting to hit the spider.
As he swung the stick, he saw some tall teenager running towards them. He was shouting something, but with all of the panicked people, Clyde couldn't understand what he was saying, though, for some odd reason, he didn't seem to be scared.

Despite the struggling and protests, that highschooler still had a hold of him. Instead of breaking free, Clyde had only managed to get himself into a position where he was practically hanging upside-down. That was just great. Judging by what that guy said, he seemed to think he was incapable of running himself. Brilliant. Apparently, he looked as helpless as a damsel in distress.
>>“Hold on to the doggie!”
The guy moved him to the side a bit, and finally, he let go of him, allowing him to fall. Clyde landed on something rather hard. It was a large, black dog. Not far off was a smaller dog of similar appearance. He must have been too busy struggling to get free, because he failed to notice the two black dogs trailing alongside the teen. Getting carried around by a guy was humiliating, but being expected to ride a dog wasn't much better.
Immediately, Clyde noticed that something was off. The larger one didn't yelp or even give way a little when he landed on him. Looking over at the smaller one, he noticed the strange eyes as well. They were red – and glowing! Their eyes alone were enough to send shivers down one's spine, but also... the one he was on didn't seem to be breathing. With those traits added to dark fur and a strong build, those dogs were practically hellhounds!
Certainly, there was no way he was going ride a dog, normal or not! Quickly, Clyde slid off of the creepy dog and continued running in the same direction.
Clyde took a quick glance out of the corner of his eye and - OH $#!^! One of the larger spiders, about the size of a cat, was coming towards them from the side, pinchers snapping in anticipation of a meal. The nightmarish creature was going after them! “L-look out!” he shouted to the highschooler, trying to alert him to the monster.

Clyde soon figured out why everyone was so scared. Spiders. Hundreds of them were skittering out from the playground. Most were normal size, but there were several big ones, too. The largest of them was almost the size of a car! With their eight wet, beady eyes, hairy, spindly legs and gigantic, snapping mandibles, they were a terror to behold. It did not help that Clyde was terrified of spiders.
Somebody was screaming at everyone to run or else be turned into one of them (which, if he had thought about it, made no sense), but he just stood there, paralyzed with fear. He opened his mouth as if he was going to scream, but no sound came out. Those fearsome creatures were crawling everywhere, covering the playground with their nasty webs. At the moment, they were too far away to attack, but were they going to kill anything that got close?
Suddenly, he felt himself being hoisted up. His backpack must not have been closed properly, because the sudden motion spilled its contents. However, Clyde now had more serious concerns than his books and the giant spiders.
A fellow high-school aged guy had just PICKED HIM UP! There were many things one could do to annoy or humiliate a teenager like him, but getting carried was definitely near the top of the list. After all, no high school boy would like one of his peers carrying him around. Not to mention, being held that way was a huge infringement upon his personal space. WAY TO CLOSE! Of course, that high-schooler probably had no clue, but still! Clyde tried to climb out, but his feet kept on slipping down the teen's front. To heck with the spiders. His dignity was on the line!
“I can run myself, you know,” he grumbled discontentedly, making one final attempt to push himself over the guy's shoulder to break free. Maybe it was not the best idea in that situation, but at that moment, Clyde was not thinking about it.

This potential single thread plot Kite and I were thinking up could possibly happen during the tension period before the riots. It would be more for the mutants who are trying to make peace, though it is open to the idea of someone trying to sabatoge things. The idea is still raw, but here's the link:

As people say, most of this site's ideas come from the cbox, so, long story short, Kite and I had a random idea for a potential site-wide plot (more like a part of the Mutant Riots plot, actually).
What if an organization that constructs homes for the poor (somewhat like Habitat for Humanity) was working on a project in or close to NYC? And, what if the people running it were willing to allow, or even were encouraging, mutant volunteers. This would probably happen shortly after the Mutant Riots Plot kicks off as an effort for the more peaceful mutants to improve their overall image in the eyes of humanity. There is even room for not-so-friendly mutants to try (and maybe successfully) sabatage the project. There's potential for members of different factions, as well as neutrals, to get involved.
