The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

“Tell me about it,” Clyde grumbled. His father pounced on those sort of studies. A sickeningly high number of them were done by political organizations and demonologists rather than real scientists. Fudged-up studies weren't the only reason for mutant discrimination, but they sure didn't help.
>> “Anyway, I ought to get back to practicing. You can stick around and watch if you want.”
“Oh. Right.” The reason he'd first approached Alex was because the practice session was so loud, but they ended up talking for quite some time. “I'll let you be, then. Good luck with that.”
As Clyde was leaving, he looked over his shoulder to see the bugs swarming in precise geometric structures. It was quite the spectacle; he had to acknowledge the skill the feat likely took. His attention then turned back to the book he was holding. Time to find a noiseless place to read.

Don't tilt a toddler or baby's head back. Use hips instead of elbows to apply additional force. As for finding an adult, well, Clyde wasn't planning on wasting any time doing that if someone ever needed CPR.
Again, Clyde watched the demonstration. Notably, the Mansionite appeared rather upset during her turn with the baby dummy. A dummy was all Clyde could see before him. But performing CPR on a real person, adult or baby, would be something else. It could mean the difference between life and death. Worse still, one could perform CPR but the subject could end up dying anyways. It was a skill Clyde genuinely hoped he'd never have to use.
This time around, CPR was easier. The smaller dummy could be compressed with only a gentle push. But the thoughts weighing on his mind made him more determined to get the procedure right.

Thirty pumps, two breaths. One-third of the way. Clyde added that info to his notebook. He watched as both women performed CPR on the dummy, giving him a good visual of what the procedure looked like.
Now that it was his turn, Clyde placed the germ shield in the dummy's mouth. As he started the procedure, he realized something. The dummy's chest was surprisingly hard to compress. Having the body of a ten year old child didn't help. Despite his efforts, he couldn't press the dummy's chest all the way to the one-third mark. Maybe he'd have the strength if he aged himself a few years, but this was the middle of a lesson. He couldn't just leave to fetch a change of clothes, and he doubted the two women present would appreciate it if he destroyed that which he was wearing. So, he settled for performing CPR with shallow, incomplete compressions.
“I'm don't think I was pushing it down far enough,” he commented upon finishing. “But I'm an age shiftah, so I could age up if it's an emergency.”

Clyde stared at the word written on the board. AMMPLE. Heh, another acronym. Just like his high school American Government class. As he listened, he jotted down the meaning of each letter. Allergies, Medication, Mutation, Past history, time of Last meal, and Events that lead to the situation. Overall, these were important bits of information he was learning.
To his surprise, he also learned that the instructor apparently photosynthesized. She looked normal, but then again, so did he and many other mutants.
> “Ok, has anyone performed CPR before?”
Clyde shook his head. “I haven't. Once read a postah about it in a nurse's office, but that was a long time ago.”

A strange, calmness overcame Clyde. The floating hazards, the possibility of falling, every worry somehow became more insignificant. It was when he saw the panicking girl relaxing that he realized Margo must have used her powers on her and gotten him as well.
“Yeah, it's her,” he replied. The sudden presence of gravity pulled him the rest of the way down the column, and he hit the ground with a small thud. “It's definitely her.”
As books and students alike hit the floor, the age shifter remained uncharacteristically unconcerned, not even jumping in surprise as a five inch thick dictionary crashed down right next to him. “This went well,” he stated simply to Margo, possibly due to the influence of her powers.

“Yikes.” Clyde shuddered. “I never thought about mine that way. There weren't too many religious zealots where I was from. But, a lot of people were paranoid about mutants. The fact that some used their powers to go on killing sprees didn't help.” As someone who grew up around a journalist, he knew very well such individuals could, and sometimes did, cause widespread panic.
He gave a quiet nod. “I suppose,” he replied with a small grin. “I know there are people working to properly educate others about mutations. We could all use that.”

It wasn't long until a pair of women walked in. The first was a white-haired woman Clyde had seen at the Mansion before several times, though he couldn't recall speaking to her. Anyways, since she waved, he returned the gesture. She was barefoot, which was odd considering the time of year. At least this wasn't the Danger Room.
The other woman was, as Clyde soon found out, the first aid instructor. He listened quietly and patiently as she, Zinnia, started the class and shared her story.
> “Can you think of any other examples of how mutations might affect the way you perform first aid?”
The question left Clyde deep in thought. As far as he knew, there wasn't much his mutation could do that would help or hurt in those situations. But how any mutations could affect how a mundane skill like first aid was carried out... that was something he hadn't considered. “It's all the more important to keep an injured mutant calm, because some lose control when scared oh in pain,” he finally answered.

Now that Clyde and Margo had reeled the girl in, they were only one step away from reaching the ground. “Looks like we can just climb down. You ready?” he asked the girl.
There was no response. She was clinging to the column as if her life depended on it. He was beginning to wonder if her fear was a full blown phobia.
“It's all right, it's not that high,” Clyde assured her, starting to scale down the column to demonstrate. “It can't be more than seven or eight feet.”
Looking back, he probably should not have said that. Tears were forming in the girl's eyes, and she looked like she was ready to start bawling.
Now feeling really awkward, the age shifter turned to Margo. “Yo the empath. Maybe you'd be bettah at calming her down,” he whispered.
At least, that's what the bulletin board said. Knowing how to treat injuries would be a useful skill, especially considering this was New York City. Therefore, Clyde was going to attend it.
He was en route to the library when he nearly tripped. A shoe? There it was, sitting in the hallway, all by itself, no mate in sight. Weird.
Wait, the last time he'd found a random clothing article in a strange place, it turned out to be a psycho shapeshifter girl. Maybe it was her. He knelt down next to the shoe and whispered, “Hey, just in case yo that crazy #$@%^ who slapped me...”
It probably wasn't really her, but anyways, he picked up the shoe and shook it violently before setting it back down.
That little piece of “revenge” having been taken care of, Clyde continued to the library and took a seat at one of the tables. He was early, so all he had to do was wait for the class to start.

“Oh... Sorry to hear that.” That was heavy – well, about as heavy as hearing about the possibility of a man he'd never met being dead could get. Some mutations had a way of torturing their owners.
“Kind of reminds me of something I read about. A book in the library had a few articles about mutants. There's one that talks about the curse and blessing attitudes towards mutations. Like how some would be cast out from a church for possessing powers granted by the devil, while others would become the object of worship themselves. It was interesting.” And actually the good type of interesting, from Clyde's point of view.

“Good,” Clyde responded, relieved. It wasn't every day that he got past that explanation without a snicker. Now that those worries were out of the way, he was free to indulge his curiosity.
“So, you've met an age shiftah before? What was he like?” The funny part was, Clyde once met another teen that had powers that looked a bit similar to Alex's. Comparing notes could be interesting and maybe even useful. Though, knowing his own luck, the old man's age-shifting capabilities were probably superior to his.

“Got it!” was Clyde's reply. After aiming himself at a column near the frightened girl, he pushed off of the railing and grabbed onto it. Now that he was closer, he could see that she was young – maybe seven or eight years old. Her hands were grasping her head in agony.
“So, ah you making the zero gravity field?” Clyde asked. The words were blunt, but he didn't want to waste time.
The girl nodded. “I can't control it...” she whimpered. Her eyes were fixed on the ground. “I want to go down. Too high.”
Well @%#$. Not only was she panicking about not being able to control her powers, but she was also afraid of heights.
“Maybe I could pull you down.” But after trying to reach out to the girl, it was evident that this wasn't going to work. “Crap. Yo too far away.”
He sure hoped Margo was returning soon. It looked like he could use her help.

Normally, Clyde would have questions about this other age shifter, but the question had him a little distracted. And maybe just a bit annoyed. “Eighteen, and I don't look like this by choice. So, if you have any rude remarks, urges to laugh, or inappropriate questions, please get them out of yo system ASAP,” Clyde answered in a very serious tone.
Alex didn't strike him as a mean person, but Clyde was prepared for all the worst case scenario reactions he could think of.

Clyde listened quietly. “Good point. We don't know what her powahs ah or how this gravity thing works,” he responded in a hushed tone.
He glanced to his side, where he could see several fellow students floating and struggling in the air, some several feet from the floor. From the looks of things, even a sudden switch to normal gravity would cause injuries. Crap. This was turning out to be more complicated that he'd initially thought. He placed his hand on his chin, trying to think.
“I don't know if asking her about this would hurt. What do you think?”
