The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Clyde cracked a slight grin as he continued forward towards their target. Margo's joke was actually kind of clever, better than those dumb puns whose humor he could never understand. “That kind of sounds like my mom's side of the family.” The happy-go-lucky and somewhat slow-witted personality his mother had and his brother inherited seemed to run in her half. However much he hated his dad, Clyde was glad he instead received his serious, cynical attitude.
They were getting close to the supposed “gravity girl” now. The panic in her behavior was apparent, and Clyde was not sure how to go about helping her.

“Oh.” Alex had been referring to something else entirely. His earlier statement implied a history of wandering around, which was quite different from Clyde's own. Sure, Clyde had questions, but they were likely ones he should not ask someone he just met.
“Well, they haven't kicked Birdbrain out yet, so I suppose as long as you don't do worse than him, yo good,” Clyde assured him, a hint of contempt for the winged mutant present in his voice. This was the Mansion, a place where the staff was understanding of social problems and power incontinence. Clyde doubted that they would boot residents out for minor offenses.

It wasn't every day that Clyde met a person who acted this shy around him. While she seemed kind enough, it was going to be hard working with her if this awkward tension kept up. Jokes were supposed to help that, right?
Clyde stopped trying to scale the railing for a moment. “So, a guy walks into a bah,” he started with hesitation. “I mean, a pirate guy. And he has a steering wheel in his pants. The bahtendah asks why and he says, 'It's driving my nuts.'” Wait, that was not right. “Crap. I meant 'Me nuts.'”
And congratulations. He just failed at telling a basic joke and made himself look very stupid.

Clyde took a chance to look the mansion over as well, having to tilt his head far back just to see the higher parts. The height he was at made it all the more intimidating when he'd first arrived, but now, the sight of it was just part of daily life.
“Don't worry, I'm sure this place will be around for a while. I've nevah heard anything about those in charge struggling to keep this running.” Which brought up an interesting mystery. “I sweah, I don't know where they get their funds. Maybe they've got a precog that plays the stock market or a mutant that $#!^s gold and diamonds. Or something,” Clyde deadpanned. It really didn't matter to him, as long as they weren't stealing anything.

A few months? So Alex was new, but not that new. Clyde was sixteen when he came there, so that meant it had been a while. Funny how time flew by.
“A couple of years. I couldn't stand being at home, so I ended up heah.” Getting away from his dad's anti-mutant discrimination had been good, but he now kind of regretted running away from the rest of his family. His mother was probably worried, and Bryce, well, he probably was worried too. They might not have been very smart, but they were good people, and Clyde hoped they were doing all right.
But at least the Mansion's inhabitants were, for the most part, tolerable. And he couldn't deny that the occasional mutation-induced weird occurrences kept things from becoming boring. “I guess I was glad this place existed.”

Clyde wasn't sure how he was supposed to respond. Margo seemed nice, but was overly apologetic and possibly insecure. That was the type of personality Clyde was afraid to step all over. He worried that if he said the wrong thing, he'd make her feel even worse.
“Sorry. I guess I should have said something earlier,” he told her, even though he didn't entirely agree with his statement. Going around and saying that to every person he met wasn't a great option in his opinion, but he hated tripping people up, too. What was he supposed to do?
“Anyways, maybe we should focus on our current situation,” he then spoke, in an effort to distract from the awkward topic.

What Alex said was true. Criminals or not, mutants would often choose a second name that suited their powers. “Right. I guess I nevah caught onto the trend myself,” he responded with a shrug. Clyde found the practice a little unusual, as he didn't see the point in choosing a new name when Clyde worked just fine. Plus, he couldn't think of any good monikers for an age shifter.
As far as Clyde could tell, Alex was considering, or at least pretending to consider, his advice. He didn't care too much either way, but he liked to get his side of the story in first. “So, how long have you been heah? You new?” Clyde hadn't recalled seeing his face before, though given his lack of a social life, that wasn't saying much.

Clyde began to wonder if he was ranting too much about mutant-human relations. Alex did not have anything more to say about the subject, and maybe it was an uncomfortable topic for some.
Instead, Alex was inquiring about the thief's name. It was funny he would ask. “I honestly don't know,” Clyde replied flatly. “I've seen him use both Griff and Carrick.” There was no telling if either of those were even his real name. Really, it was just like thieves to take other monikers.
“But seriously, watch out for him,” he continued. “He even tried to use me to start a riot just so he could get away. He's just a bunch of bad news.” And Clyde was going to emphasize that as much as he could.

A “Wow,” and then silence. He turned to find her staring decidedly away from him. Of all the reactions Clyde had seen, that was not one he was used to. It was surprising to see that she was acting more embarrassed than he was. Maybe the empathic powers she told him about were doing this? Or not, but the silence certainly wasn't helping the awkwardness.
Clyde never was good at dealing with people, but he felt like he had to say something. “Hey, I'm just glad you've been nice about it.” Unlike some other people. Really, he was kind of relieved that she wasn't laughing at him.

“Yeah,” Clyde agreed. “Don't get me wrong, I know some mutations are nasty if used for crime, and some ah even kind of scary. But it still stinks. A few nimrods ruin it for everyone else.”
Nimrods like this one guy Clyde unfortunately knew. Since Alex was hanging around the Mansion, he might as well clue him in.
“Just to let you know, if you ever meet a guy heah with wings, a tail, and an Irish accent, keep an eye on yo things,” Clyde firmly warned him. “That idiot steals, and NOT because he needs it. Plus, his stupidity could have killed me.”
Come to think of it, he could count one, two, three, four, at least five separate instances were he could have been hurt or killed by a mutant. Crap, those numbers would not look good to someone who was already convinced that mutants were monsters or criminals.

What Margo described were empathic abilities. By the way she was talking, it sounded like she didn't have a good handle on them, either. Regardless, changing people's emotions wasn't going to help them cross the room to get to the student.
“I'm Clyde,” he responded.
He stopped in his tracks as soon as he heard Margo's question. Crap, he didn't even think she would ask about his age. Perhaps she was a little sharper than he'd thought. But she did ask, so he had to do his part.
“I'm almost eighteen,” was his hesitant answer.
This was really awkward. But seriously, when was it not?

What Alex said suggested that he hid his mutation. It was something Clyde could relate to. He knew all too well about anti-mutant bigots. He recalled the lengths he went to hide that he was a mutant, just to avoid causing family troubles and being bullied more than he already was.
“I know what you mean,” he replied. “There aren't too many places where people can use their mutations without drawing negative attention. There's such a huge stereotype about people like us.”

Just as expected, that bit of information surprised the other teen. “Don't worry too much about it. It happens all the time,” Clyde assured him, trying his best to appear unbothered. Though the apology was unnecessary, he appreciated it nonetheless. It was always nice to hear something other than sniggering.
“I'm Clyde,” he answered, shaking Alex's hand. He motioned to the swarm. “Practicing, I assume?” Okay, it was a stupid question with an obvious answer, but it was conversation. And, from what Clyde knew, there were a fair amount of mutants who liked talking about their powers.

So that girl appeared to be a tad scatterbrained. At least that was a few steps above insane, so he wasn't going to say anything more about the subject. He simply shrugged and started “climbing” the railings as if they were a ladder, using the posts as rungs. It would have looked strange to an outside observer, but it was working so far.
“Mojo? Well, my age shifting isn't going to help heah.” Something like flight or telekinesis would have been a lot more helpful in navigating the zero gravity environment. If she had something like that, she probably would have mentioned it already, but it didn't hurt to ask. “What about yo mutation, err... I guess I don't know yo name.”
