The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When she was moved to Derek, she clutched at Artair still, shaking her head at him wildly. No... she wanted to say, please don't leave me now... No... But she knew she had to let go, and she did as much as it pained her to do so. She leaned heavily into her friend after that, let him take her to the Infirmary and just continued to shudder and breathe in a funky way...
God, this was all so messed up. She hated that she felt so freakin helpless at that moment. She hoped that something could be done about the man who was out to get her. She was so tired of this happening.
The babies were just fine, and they got to go home within a few weeks of their birth. Xavia was going to be alright as well, sore for a while and maybe tired, but she was doing alright. She gave Artair some breathing room in the meantime, and tried to remain optimistic that he wouldn't break it off with her when they only just got to start. The thought kind of hurt, but she had to accept it if that was his choice. She sent him a single text, however, stating her case for why he shouldn't leave her.
Dear Artair,
You don't need to say anything right now, but I want you to think about something before you make your choice. It would be really bad of me to let you end us... So here are several reasons that I want you to add to the scale of choice making, that will hopefully outweigh your reasons for our relationship ending.
1) We've already been through alot together and survived, a little worse for wear but we're still standing. 2) We are good together in and out of bed. 3) I have never been able to open up and laugh with someone the way that I have with you. And you laugh too. 4) I'm an awesome cook, my mom even more so. (This is only to prove the above point that you laugh too.) 5) Can you honestly stay away without missing me? Because I miss you when you are not around. 6) You are stronger than you let yourself believe, and I am right here with you when you can't be. 7) I'm not afraid of your scary moments. I still love you. 8) I still owe you a night of just sleeping together and nothing more. We got interrupted last time. 9) If you walked away every time something frightened you, you wouldn't find happiness and I think you deserve happiness.
If none of these things moved you, I don't know what else to say other than it gives me a lump in my throat to think you have so little faith in yourself that you don't see what a kind and wonderful person you are, and that I don't care if you are flawed because I am about as flawed as it gets. You don't have to be perfect or awesome all the time, you just have to be you. That is the only you I want, Artair.
Please don't walk away. It would be fodder for a song about heartbreak, and that would suck. Really, it would... Just show up when you are ready to talk, either way. I am not going anywhere, obviously.
And then she went about her week, taking care of the kids, slowly working through her thoughts and all that... And she waited for him to come to her, for him to either say he was gone or that he was sticking by her, at least giving this a chance.
The fact that he actually needed to think about it still stung even if she understood. She didn't say anything else, she tried not to even wince at his words. She had brought it up, not him, she had given him the out. Would he really just let it all go, though? Xavia didn't know and she hoped to god not, he was more important in her life than he knew, better than he thought he was. It was all just overwhelming, wasn't it? She gave the babies both one last, loving caress on their soft hair, then she reluctantly pulled away to let him wheel her back to her room to try and eat....
Xavia came back out eventually. She was looking a bit distracted, frowning, feeling a it on edge. She didn't say anything about what was going on, she simply returned to where she was sitting. The redhead suddenly felt rather weary and like maybe the spa was being wasted on her with all that was happening. While she was sitting there, she sighed and wondered what to do.
"You are to me," she said softly. "You keep rescuing me somehow, and I keep giving you trouble." She turned her gaze to him. "T'ere are women having babies all t'e time... But t'ere aren't always guys who make a woman feel better when she hurts and sticks around even t'ough she is pregnant with someone else's baby, or in my case, babies. You could have brushed me off, but you didn't. You wouldn't let me die and you certainly helped me wit' getting t'ese two born even if indirectly. I'd say you don't give yourself enough credit." She gave a tired smile and then turned her attention back to the two.
She whispered to them both, "I am sorry you had to come to us like t'is, sweet babies. But you're alright. I'm here..." Her lips pressed together, she was understandably emotional at the moment. She also looked scared... "I'll understand if t'is is too much for you."
And then she reluctantly let go of the tiny head and caressed the soft hair of one, then the other. She definitely didn't care who sired the two pretty little ones, she was in love with the pair just as much as she was her eldest. She looked at him and said, "I don't want to leave t'em but I am tired and a little hungry. Wanna help me back to my room?"
She stared at him for a moment and then pulled the tape recorder out. While he was ignoring her, she was taking notes on him as "the subject" without a name... He did tell her she could put information down. She spoke about his control of the ability. more than the ability itself, and how it was a mind over matter issue. What a breakthrough this was, and she couldn't help but be excited over all of this happening.
"Maybe I should learn to control mine as well as you already are. Mine is unpredictable thanks to t'ese two," she indicated her belly and then sighed tiredly at the thought of learning to do some work on her mutation.
"But yes, you should look at your hand. It's pretty interesting." She sighed a little and went to sit down because walking around with the watermelon belly was tiresome.
She kind of held tight to Artair's arm and put her face into his neck. She was pale, visibly shaken, clammy, and clearly uncomfortable. It was really hard for her. She wanted to go home but the thought of going outside... Well, it really freaked her out! She didn't say anything at that point, she didn't cry, she just... tried to calm herself down while holding onto her unofficial boyfriend's arm and kept herself from looking. Get her away from the open, she thought, please... He was still out there somewhere, still out to get her, he would kill her if he had his chance... Oh god, he almost did kill her! She clung harder.
She was in rough shape, she wanted to push before they even made it to delivery but she couldn't. Both of the wee ones were breech, there were plenty of complications that were going on, but she delivered two mostly healthy little girls in a short amount of time without being able to get epidural or anything. They wanted out. The babies were identical, though one was slightly bigger than the other, and they were tiny little things that needed to be incubated and under observation, but it looked like they didn't have too many issues.
Xavia wasn't well afterwards, and it most certainly happened from the stress that had happened. By the end of it all, the two black haired babies were safe and sound, and all she wanted to do was see them for herself. She was too tired to say much for a time, in a lot of pain, and running a little bit of a fever.
"We gotta stop meeting like t'is," she joked tiredly at one point, looking pretty well done. Then they finally gave her something that would actually work for her, painkiller wise.
They were named Alanna Rose and Alisha Rue, and the father was intentionally left off of their birth certificates with a lie about not knowing their father. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with him and didn't want him near her babies. Ever. They were hers. End of story.
---
At some point, they let her see the babies, and she didn't even care how they had come to be, there was the fiercest look of love in her eyes toward each of her daughters and she murmured vows to protect them always. She glanced over to Artair and gave a tired smile from the wheelchair she sat in, her fingers lightly caressing a tiny little hand. "I owe you... You're literally my hero, you know t'at right?"
She was tired... There had been some complications in the delivery because the twins were early... Both had been born breech, and Xavia was stuck in the hospital, recovering from things... Artair was probably off doing some things that needed to be done, though normally was right there to hold her hand and such. The babies were going to be fine, they were as healthy as two, preemie babies could be and expected to be out of the incubators after a few days. They were quite alright... It had just been a manner of stress overload on Xavia with all that had happened and she was lucky things were as okay as they were.
She was hooked up to an IV, painkillers running through her and causing her to lay there drowsily. She was curled up on her side, kind of staring at the nurse as she wrote things down. The nurse knew she wanted to see her children, she had asked when she could. She would need to be wheeled to them, to where the incubators were.
"..." she didn't answer, her eyes popped open. That... was no cramp.
Okay, no need to panic, she thought... This could happen to anyone in her situation. She didn't dare move right then. "Rest well," she murmured, not wanting to bother just yet. No sense in freaking him out if it was just Braxton Hicks or something, right?
Xavia decided to continue to rest, dozing off and on. About three hours later, she was pretty sure she was going into actual labor. The contractions were coming like clockwork every fifteen minutes or so at first, then started to get closer together. She finally moved off the bed when the pain started to intensify. "Oh god, Artair," she ground out and worked on breathing, not really in panic mode... Not yet... It could be stopped, right? Right??? That thought fled the moment her water broke. "Artair..." she repeated again, knowing he was probably half asleep and trying to wake someone up in a calm manner didn't always work the first time. And if he still didn't wake up? She yelled, "ARTAIR!"
Oh god, but it was early! Almost three months early. That was normal for twins, right? They usually came early... She didn't know, but it hurt and she couldn't stop it from happening.
".... Subject exhibits insect like abilities in that they can grasp and stick to objects using suction...." she said before hitting stop and pocketing the recorder. Damn, she wished she could take some pictures, but that would be going above and beyond what she was allowed to do with the information she had on hand. She mainly wanted to get things recorded so she didn't forget anything.
When she turned back, he had figured out how to get the knife and sock off of himself, which made her smile. Good, crisis resolved, right? Right. She looked at him as he asked her if he should climb a wall. "Maybe you should start practicing so you can learn to control your new abilities, perhaps. It is a good t'ing we did look under t'e microscope or you wouldn't know what to do at all. I am sorry t'at it frustrated you in t'e beginning and hope I helped in some way."
It was true, she did hope she helped him out because she knew how frazzled he'd felt earlier. "I would say to climb a wall wit' proper safety procedures to start... Don't climb high unless you know you can get down wit'out hurting yourself. If you t'ink t'ere is somet'ing else you can tell me about t'is, I would appreciate it... I will leave t'at up to you t'ough. Whatever you want to do." She gave a soft shrug and then said, "We should look at your hand now wit'out t'e knife..."
She moved back over and gestured, "You should look too, it's really neat."

Xavia continued to just... be there for him the way he had been there for her. She understood his pain even if she had not experienced it, and she wouldn't easily scare away... Nono, not after all that had happened. Her eyes met his when the kiss ended, and she gave the kind of smile that was reassuring. “I understand, Artair.” That was directed at the words he expressed about being frightened.
And then he asked her about just sleeping with him... It seemed now he understood why she had asked him because he asked her back. She nodded softly. “You can sleep next to me... You don't have to ask...” She took his hand and let her fingers do the thing his sometimes did to hers that inadvertently got her gears going, though her intention wasn't to seduce him, but rather comfort.
She led him up to the third floor again after turning off the tape, and right into her room, though it was clear that climbing so many stairs was starting to affect her. She was tired.
She lay down under the filmy looking canopy and patted the mattress behind her. Her room was comfortable looking, more home style than luxury. She preferred to live country style than city, it seemed, and that was reflected throughout her old home. Assuming he lay down with her, she snuggled back against him and sighed.
More cramps gripped at her and she didn't say anything about them, though he might notice the change in her breathing pattern as she worked through the pain. It looked like she might need to take time off all work for a while the way things were going. Still, she tried just to relax as they lay together.
She was... well... fascinated by what she saw... "I take it back, you can climb like a grasshopper." Her eyes were sparkling as she pulled away from the microscope. She took the handle of the knife, and said,"Okay... now... If you are a grasshopper, imagine yourself climbing a wall. Close your eyes and picture yourself on t'e wall, pull your hand away from it." Hopefully the visualization would help him let go of the knife, she wanted to take more of a look without the knife.
"I already wrote it down wit'out specifying your name and the mutation. But t'ank you still. You have helped me immensely by asking me for help." She gave an excited smile and was going to take out her tape recorder out and record the notes to more of an extent. Man, science really was fun!
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look, but we need t'e big scope, your hand won't fit ot'erwise..." She pointed toward the big one that looked way too heavy for a pregnant woman to be carrying, but she went to get it unless he stopped her from doing so. She grunted at the weight of it and moved to set it on the table, unplugging the first and plugging the second. She gestured toward it then and said, "By all means," she was itching to write more notes without naming names, of course.
"I am sure t'ere are more factors t'an just blood, like all cells in your body contributing somehow. I knew it would be somet'ing staring me right in t'e face. Do you know how long I have tried to find t'is answer? It is maddening. T'ink of all t'e kids I can teach wit' t'is new information!" Indeed, that was what excited her. She was too happy at the moment for him to be able to burst her bubble or pee on her rainbow.
She blinked, then she took over looking into the microscope. Uhhh, how had she missed that?? She pulled away and was all... excited... "I t'ink you mean nucleus... You look to be bot' part bug, part amphibian. I t'ink t'at is your answer... Amphibians can stick to t'ings..." She pulled away, itching to take notes... And then the urge won out. She moved as fast as a twin carrying woman could to find a pen, opened the older book and wrote down a few notes... "T'at has to be t'e answer. How could I not have figured it out before... Our blood cells... Our blood... Different cells wit'in us, t'ey evolve, WE evolve...!"
She looked at him with that spark in her eyes, raking her fingers through her bright hair. "It doesn't answer how to train yourself how to control new abilities, I think t'at is a matter of practicing... But t'ink about, you can train yourself to climb like a tree-frog!"
