The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Despite the syntethic feeling produced by the white electric light, the plastic wrappers and bottles, and the multiple shelves of man-made products, the little goblin was enjoying the experience of dinning out a lot. The store was very different from his usual stop for a meal but it was quiet enough for him to enjoy being there. In fact, it was so quiet that the goblin soon forgot all about the third person sitting beside the counter and the constant humming of the refrigerated boxes. After finishing the last drop of his bottle, he procedeed to lick his fingers that still tasted like hotdog while questioning himself about which of these metallic wrappers contained his next serving. Each bag of chips looked a lot like the previous one and his limited reading skills did not provide him with enough information to eliminate some of the uncertainty he had. He stared at her, silently asking for help, just in time to catch the girl opening a new plastic bag that contained something small and round. How did she do it? Not the part about opening the package with her teeth, he could do the same but how did she choose between all those things with so much ease? For him it was almost impossible to set his mind on one thing, after all, he had always grabbed the closest thing to the exit before turning back for a quick getaway.
He nodded in response to her question. In part to accept the round candies she was offering but also to shake those silly questions from his head so he could focus more on the small object in her hand. It was so small and it was only one. How could he enjoy something so minuscule and limited? He could not, so he took a bunch of them and dropped each of them inside his open mouth. The small candies rewarded him with a extremely weird burning sensation, it was as if each candy was made of exploding bubbles and each little explosion triggered more and more of them. Without thinking so much about it, he spat the round objects with all his might. Some fell right at his feet but one wicked candy ascended in an arc to descend on the forehead of the cashier. The girl jumped from the magazine into the real world to see a small green monster spitting candies at her. She stared at him for a long moment, the candy was still stuck at her forehead. Then, she screamed and ran through a door in the back, to return a moment later brandishing a huge broom. He glanced back at her companion. "What now?" If he were on his own he would run away without thinking it twice but what should he do with Tses?
Once she accepted his proposal of leading the way, they started to move away from the site of their first encounter and toward one of the many exits of the park. The small creature had to hurry a little to keep up with her long strides, not because she was walking quickly but because her long legs covered more ground that his strong but short legs, so he hurried to catch up with her and walk by her side just in case she needed some directions or help to detect some of the dangers the park offered at that hour, like hidden roots or loose stones but the woman surprised him by moving through bushes and between trees with an uncanny certainty. Since he did not have to worry about his human companion, he focused on hearing some of the many sounds of the night. There were small mammals hunting or being hunted, tiny lizards leaving small footprints, the flapping of wings and some other unnatural sounds that strangely added some charm to the strange orchestra, like the flickering of a light bulb or the engine of a car.
Distracted as he was by the sounds of nature and his growing hunger, he did not notice that the trees were fewer and fewer until they abruptly emerged from the woods to a deserted sidewalk in turn lead them to an even more deserted street. They stopped at the edge of the sidewalk for a moment. Then the traffic light changed to his color allowing him to cross the street. She followed him, despite she was not green and after some more walking they arrived at a store filled with different colorful packages and several odors that he could not separate. The amount of edible things was overwhelming to the point he stood there for a moment without being able to choose any direction. There were so many types of potato chips and beverages of many colors that he did not care about the noise that was coming from the salesclerk's ears.
His big amber eyes were everywhere, jumping from place to place until he found those sticks of meat he loved so much. In their natural environment, those sticks would be inside a super strong metallic cart that he could not pierce so it was really difficult to get one of those in the park, but there, it was laying between rolling tubes, ready to be taken. The only problem was the height. Would it OK if he were to climb up there or would the cashier freak up? Most of the time he decided climbing shelves was not worth the risk since people often mistaken him for a monster but this time he was with a human, so he was feeling bold. He stared at the counter for a moment, searching for the easier way to climb but then, Tses offered him the very thing he was looking at. "Thanks." It was good to have a tall friend. The hot dog soon disappeared into his monstrous mouth, so he moved around the store for his next prey. The beverages were near, so he moved toward the big crystal door and not without some effort, opened it and grabbed two bottles with a bubbly black liquid that were just at the right height for him to take. He then walked back to her and offered one of the bottles. He opened his one and poured the content in his mouth without really aiming. His mouth was so wide that most of it fell inside; the rest trickled down his chin. It was very nice to enjoy a meal without blood everywhere and without being to worry for people chasing after you with brooms and other dangerous cleaning objects.
After years of hunting his own food, first with his pack back in the mountains and now alone in the big city, Guglin learned to respect and adore the thrill of the hunting. It was not only a way of obtaining food or an opportunity to test his hard earned tracking skills but a way to stay in contact with nature while honoring that noble ritual. Still, it had some limitations since there was a lot of food that he could not "hunt", mostly because that food was already processed for humans and it was impossible to find it in the wild. Hot-dogs and pizza were two good examples of local cuisine that he loved from the first day.
There was a chance that he would not like the food that she labeled as barely edible but since the idea of eating something new and exotic made him extremely curious, there was no way the little goblin will ignore that opportunity. After all, human food could be anything from a total disaster to a piece of heaven so it was worth a try. Aside from that, their definition of edible could be entirely different, so it was safe to assume that she would prefer processed food instead of the incredible fresh but still raw meat his skills could provide. So he accepted the invitation with another energetic nod before giving her a verbal response. "I like store food." The words were a little different from what he pictured in his mind but since it always happened, he did not care. Same message, different wording.
Once the invitation was accepted, he moved closer and addressed her in a cheerful tone. "You lead." After almost a year of exploring the park and living in it, Guglin was used to all its paths and locations but his sense of direction was almost useless when it comes to the rest of the city.
Since she had interrupted his hunting by producing that unbearable noise, the poor goblin could not capture any prey to roast and he had no food left at his burrow. So he was hungry. It was not so bad as to faint for it and despite it was late, he could still search for something else to eat but since she asked about his hungriness, he did not hesitate to confirm it with a single word filled with hope. "Yes." It was not like him to depend on other people for food but if she had enough to spare some, he could pass the night and scavenger something else in the morning when most people were busy going from one place to another.
Or they could try to catch something together unless she disliked rats and pigeons then he would not have anything to share with her. While thinking about things a human could find tasty, he remembered the wizard Akshay and his man-made lair. What would he say if they showed up pass midnight? Would he have food to spare? It was unlikely and aside from that the last time they met Akshay gave him a present, so after a few seconds of internal debate the little goblin decided to wait until he had something to gift him too. So since they were not going to dine with him, they would need to hunt something. "Are you hunter?" He asked her while wondering if the weirdness of her name was a confirmation that she was a magician as his word-forging friend. If she could not hunt, she could prepare the fire and the sticks for when he could return with the meat.
Even when he heard that dinosaurs were several sizes bigger than him and well, any human being as well, he was extremely excited by the hunt. It was a chance to test his hunting skills but it was also an excellent opportunity to tighten the newly formed bond with those two mutants. Apparently dinosaurs were very rare and exclusive, probably limited for the enjoyment of the students so letting him participate was like a welcoming gift for him. Maybe they could have dinosaur steak for supper. The thought made him hungry so he climbed back to the table and picked another piece of chicken. There were just a few pieces left on his bowl, so he started to eye Miles's chocolate-less chicken.
Still, despite all the positive emotions whirling inside his chest, there was a certain feeling of uneasiness that bothered him. It was like an itch he could not ignore, invisible but still there, always present. While eating another piece of chicken, he wondered why he felt like that. He was not worry for himself and neither the ill boy nor Gina worried him since both of them had weapons on their own. The boy had those two ferocious dogs and she was able to fly and probably breathe fire. Then Gina reminded them about Amber and her white dinosaur form. That was it! He was worried about hurting Amber by mistake. He smiled and nodded vigorously since he could not talk because of the half-chewed chicken inside his mouth. With that outside of his mind, he focused on Miles that telling him that he could become a ninja by hunting dinosaurs. So maybe he was in a school for ninjas. And hunting dinosaurs was the initiation test. What kind of wickedly dangerous task would they need to accomplish to graduate?
Such a big school for ninjas would surely be packed with cool looking weapons, so what would it be? A bunch of ninja stars? Or could it be a deadly blade? Or... more like a fire poker. He stared at the long metal stick with disbelief. How could he expect him to swing that mammoth stick? He was not strong enough to lift it and it was almost as tall as his body. Luckily, the boy noted his mistake before he could even mention it and soon he commanded the dog to go look for another weapon. It was clear that they were reserving the ninja stuff for students. This time the dog returned with a broom. Despite the appearance, it was way better. It reminded him of the javelins he had at home, deadly sharp and easy to throw. But the boy decided that it was not good. It was a pity. He waited patiently while starting to regret asking for weapons, they were losing so much precious time... but then, the dog showed up with something that looked like a weapon. Then, the boy explained its properties, a bunch of difficult words Guglin did not care to hear. For what he said, the bat was the most useful weapon to hunt dinosaurs... So he descended from the table one more time and accepted the colorful stick. He swung it once, weighting it as the boy did with the fire poker and he found that it was very light and easy to use. It was the best of the three weapons the boy showed him but since it was so deadly, he would not find the hunting, challenging or fun. So in order to avoid being rude, he did not refuse the weapon but as soon as the boy left, he climbed to the table to abandon the bat and devour what was left of the boy's chicken.
When the green glowing moon disappeared, the nearby shadows took over their surroundings in a hurry. The colorful light became just an afterimage and without the green light, the colors faded too, replaced by several layers of gray. The shadows were everywhere, hiding predators and preys alike, distorting the face of the woman in front of him and blurring the details of the landscape. He adapted to the darkness quickly by using the dim moonlight in a more efficient way, his eyes showed him more details with each second that passed until it was difficult for him to tell if the place was a well lit or not. It was not the same for the woman, so he courteously waited a few seconds for her eyes to adapt to the gloom while at the same time, he hoped for her to know more tricks she could show him.
She claimed to do not have more tricks, yet she summoned more green light to her arm, vanquishing the recently gathered shadows. The darkness moved a few but long steps away from her beautiful green light, producing a new change in the colors, the details and the remaining shadows. She was like a portable lamp or a human shaped star, producing her own light. It was so interesting that he could not avoid to stare at the glow for a few seconds before acting. Once he had enough, he moved closer to touch the flickering fingers of light. He moved carefully, slowly, as if the green glow could devour his hand in just an instant but when he extended his fingers and touched what looked like a very solid thing, he found nothing, just air. She said it had to be with light and its intangible properties, so with that knowledge present in his mind, he tried to touch the light again. He felt nothing. He was thrilled by the experience and the uncommon of that moon fuel but since he could not touch it, he retreated a few steps and stared at the kneeling woman in the eyes.
The silent had settle down once more and the little creature stretched his right hand to her, four fingers extended, invitingly. "Guglin." He did not like to break such a nice moment of quiet like that but he was eager to get some dinner, so he introduced himself and waited for her to shake his hand. He had seem humans do that a lot of times and they seemed to like it a lot. So he waited. Too much in his stomach opinion, so it growled furiously, demanding some food. A rat on a stick or two would do the trick.
Even when he said Scora was far beyond the range of any of his senses, he lifted his sight to the starts. He did not know why he did it, maybe he was looking for Scora, maybe he just did it by instinct but as his new friend stated, it was so far away that he could not see him. He lowered his gaze again, concentrating more in the task of learning all of that knowledge. It was a lot to process but he man was wise and knew how to put it in simple words, so it was not that difficult, it just had to concentrate a little. While he kept talking, Guglin started to wonder how many times he had used the power of Scora too... it was not like he cook each meal, he often preffered raw meat over cooked one, but he had to admit that cooking the food give it a different flavor. Was that process part of Scora's power? He wondered for a moment about that possibility but he could not understand why someone as important as Scora would care to make food taste different. It was something Scora could do, if he was so powerful, but why would he take the time to do it? But them it was that part about Scora setting things in motion... maybe changing the flavor of food could set some things in motion. Maybe it was really Scora who did it.
He waited silently, listening carefully with his long ears until the man asked him something. The answer about what brought him to the noisy city was quite simple, so he replied right away. "A car." He traveled in a car from the mountains, caged and destined to the zoo as a new specie of primate. Of course he knows little about that so he told him the second thing that brought him to the park too. "And chance." To travel from his beloved mountains to the city was not something he would choose to do, but he was glad it happened. He had found a big park in need of protection and after a few weeks of hunting and sleeping under its trees, he learned to call it home. It was nothing alike the mountains, it was softer, less savage but it was his little piece of jungle.
He was very interested in the other mutants his new friend found, but he was also very curious about Scora... so he pushed aside the thoughts about mutants and powers and concentrated fully on Scora. Among a bunch of thoughts, there was a single thing that bothered him the most, so he asked that. "How you feed Scora?"
Being patient and standing still were never among his best qualities but learning how to control these orbs of light was worth the problems, so he used each leftover of willpower to remain in a semi patient state while waiting for her response. Her reply was not what he was expecting to hear, the words hit him hard, destroying his smile and erasing his excitement and curiosity. All that was left was a expression of pure disillusion. His green face remained frozen in that sadness for a few seconds until his brain succeeded in decoding the last piece of the message. He was going to hold on one of those balls of light. His brain focused fully on the next task, forgetting his mistake and returning his happy smile to his face along with the excitement and curiosity that was a natural part of his personality.
He nodded vigorously in acceptance of the promise to throw it before it could explode. How could he know when it was about to explode? He could not tell but before he could verbalize his concern, her arm started to glow again. Even after seeing it once, he could not avoid to stare in awe as she repeated the process to create a green glowing moon. It had a similar size that the one she showed him a few moments ago, it was like a small rock filled with light and magic. Did that mean that she was a powerful wizard like Akshay? If that was the case, the city seemed to be full of them. Perhaps she knew more wizards, at least one of them could teach him something... sadly, his thoughts were interrupted when she extended the orb toward him. He stretched his right arm, catching the small ball between his four fingers. It did not feel funny as he expected, it was not warm or cold but it was there. It was quite strange but since he did not want a headache, he just focused on enjoying the beauty of that thing.
His eyes were used to the darkness of the park so there was no need to put the orb closer to his eyes for inspection, he was able to see each detail of it already but his curiosity won the match, so he moved the orb closer to his eyes. It was not a wise decision and since he had to let it go quickly, he hurried to analyze that little miracle without wasting any time. The light created by that tiny sphere made his eyes shine with red, a byproduct of the reflective layer in his eyes that provided him with his amazing night vision. The orb was made of light, that was clear but there was nothing inside that tiny ethereal ball that could explain its weight... he was not a genius, so he did not keep torturing himself with these matters for long.
He was skilled at throwing rocks, so he expected the ball of light to behave similar... but when he finally threw the tiny sphere, it was clear that he misjudged its weight and mass, the sphere missed his intended target for a big gap and then exploded near the roots of a big tree. The force of the blast was barely able to kick a small rock and push some grass away. Even when it did not cut the grass or break the rock, it was the most awesome thing he ever did and he let her know that. "Awesome! Awesome!" He chanted while jumping in his place out of sheer excitement. It was not after a few second that his enjoyment settled down enough for his brain to formulate a new question. "Have more tricks?" If she was a magician, she may know more magician tricks to execute, like Akshay´s solid speech or his enchanted swords.
The strange glow that emanated from her arm soon moved upward and compressed itself into a tiny little orb of brilliant light; it remained still, shining on the top of her finger like a firefly but more intense. The sphere was small but bright and beautiful, a copy of the bigger one she did before, and it was so pretty that it almost looked like the full moon that could be seen in the sky that night, just smaller. He was bewitched by the shiny sphere, so he soon forgot about the dangers of touching that thing and tried to reach it, he stretched his arm as much as he could but he was too far from it. Then the radiant ball disappeared as fast as it formed, producing a very peculiar sound he could not identify.
She then put him in the ground again, so carefully as if he was the most fragile thing in the world and just like that he was free again. Physically free but chained by curiosity to that woman and her peculiar power. Guglin was again in contact with the ground, feeling the soft grass caressing his bare foot and enjoying the firmness of the earth. It just felt so different than hanging lifeless from his ankle that it brought a big smile to his face. It was a frightening smile, with rows of pointy teeth, wide enough to chew a whole hand or half of your face but his muscles were relaxed and his eyes showed nothing but kindness and curiosity.
He nodded slightly, acknowledging the properties of these orbs but not really understanding the process behind its creations. There were so many things he did not understand that he did not even bother to start asking her how she could do that, probably she did not even know… so he just praised her powers. “That is cool.” There was a big variety of skills he already dominated like hunting and climbing but these spheres were way cooler than his physical abilities… maybe he could learn how to use them, it could be great for hunting big preys. He was so sure that he could learn how to create them that he did not hesitate to ask her. “Teach me it.”
The little goblin was still hanging upside down from his foot, trapped by the strong grip of the righteous owner of the CD player. She glared down at him as if he were a monster terrorizing the city; he glared back in return but always looking for an opportunity to get free. With some luck he could do some serious damage to her arm and hand before she could create another exploding sphere of light but she had done nothing to deserve such thing, well, nothing aside from disturbing the peace of the entire park… but in the end that was not a proper excuse to do some lasting damage to her.
The trees hung from the grassy ceiling like bats, while the moon and the stars formed a very mysterious lake where the floor should be. While he was still there, contemplating the world in that unnatural way, he observed how the woman managed to deactivate the device with the push of a single button… he stared at her in awe, wondering how much time he would had need to turn it off like she did and how little of that machine would work after him using more persuasive methods like rocks or water.
While he was waiting for her to put him down as he kindly requested, the woman refused and blamed him one more time for the robbery of her CD player. Then, she moved him higher to level his body with her face for a closer inspection. How much detail would her tiny eyes be able to capture? Could she see as clear as him? Maybe she was doing a lot of those questions too, maybe she was trying to read his mind or hypnotize him. Soon she broke the silence, he listened carefully but nothing of what she said pointed out if she was going to keep him there forever or put him in the ground again but nothing of that mattered since what she did next was far more interesting than escaping. For no reason at all, her arm started to shine with its own light, glowing faintly and fending the surrounding darkness away from her extremity. It was all Guglin could take; he smiled widely and raised his voice that was already overflowing with excitement. “Do another moon!”
It was hard for him to decide what of those things were worth staying in the school for and which ones were not good enough since there was so much to do in that school and everything looked so inviting. So far he learned that they have a place to hunt behind the house, a place with real dinosaurs like the ones that appeared on TV, they also had a magic oven and a fridge filled with food, apparently they can have mascots and they were encouraged in learning how to fight. He already has a lot of these things in the park, minus the magic oven and the fridge but things at the school have a little something that made them a little more special. Maybe it was the company or maybe it was the fact that they were all like him… not green and with pointy ears, but mutants with different abilities. Even when the ill boy did not display any peculiarity, he has to be a mutant too. He decided to ask later as he tossed another piece of chicken toward his mouth.
The big park had a very nice training facility too but since it lacked a proper instructor it could be a little rough in the edges for a rookie. He was not a novice anymore but it was always nice to remember the basic of combat and surviving… who knows, maybe the self defense instructor could teach him a lot of new stuff. Maybe he could even teach him that crazy combat martial art that keeps appearing in movies. Could he? “Can we learn kunfu?” As with most questions, it was better to ask them loudly and since the woman seemed to know a lot about the instructor, she asked her. “Or ninja stuff!”
A mutant able to change into dinosaurs seemed to be a cool power. What would he do with these powers? There were a lot of dinosaurs Guglin liked a lot, from some herbivores to some flying reptiles but there was one that was his favorite and if he were to transform himself, he would turn into one of those tractors. These things were great hunters.
It was kind of disappointing to know that the dinosaurs were expecting him already… he could not approach them silently to catch them by surprise and since they probably knew how a hell of a hunter he was, they were all looking for good hiding places as they continued speaking. He lost the surprise factor before even starting the hunt… it was not a very good way to start but it was still better than nothing. To know that there were dinosaurs still out there, hidden or not, was very good news.
The boy continued with his speech, revealing the name of the small dinosaurs that inhabited the backyard. It was a very complicated name, long and full of consonants, so the little goblin just ignored it. Was what the point of knowing it anyway? Still, he continued listening to the boy whose head was now at his height. Not so far away from his teeth. The boy warned him about the dinosaur student one more time and that time he managed to worry him. Gina said it in a very tender tone and she did not make it sound like something could go terrible wrong… the boy in the other hand was trying to point that out… How where they suppose to distinguish between a real dinosaur and that Amber? He did not want to hunt the people living there, not after they shared their food and knowledge with him…
It was a very complicated moral dilemma and he would have dwell in these matters for minutes if not for Miles´s battle cry that erased any leftover of doubt. The goblin jumped immediately from his chair to the floor, landing gracefully on his bare feet. He then looked up at the boy, who looked like a giant from his perspective and asked him a very important question regarding the hunting. “Where be weapons?” Even with all his experience, he knew it was always better to have some weapons available in case they find a bigger prey... he would love to have a spear like the one he forgot at home, or some javelins or even a sling to approach a dangerous dinosaur with some distant.
The music was still pounding in his head like a hammer, numbing his senses with each new beat, especially his hearing. Without his reliable ears he could not determine if she was close or far away and the noise was too loud that he could not come with a better plan to outrun his chaser. So he kept running as fast as he could without daring to look back for fear that the woman could be close to him but mainly because his eyes were fixed on his next goal, a tall tree with enough foliage for him to disappear.
Even when he was still a few meters away from that huge tree, he was already imagining how it would feel to climb to the top. Guglin can almost feel his claws piercing the bark with ease, along with a cold breeze on his bare back and the usual sensation that he was taller than everything else but then, everything vanished as soon as something grabbed his foot. At the same time, the CD player was taken from his hand provoking the world to turn around his head quickly, turning every color and shade into a homogeneous blur.
When the detail returned to the world a moment later, he found himself hanging upside down and staring at the woman that was chasing him. She screamed something at him, the music almost swallowed her voice but a hint of the message reached his ears. Little he was but not a monster so he replied with his tiny fists, delivering a few rapid punches that did not hit anything but air and next he ended his “phrase” with an awkward kick that missed her for a long gap. It was useless to fight since her arm was long enough to keep him away from her face so he stopped trying and settled down. His ears were hanging down without life as well as her arms, contrary to the constant movement of his chest as he tried to calm down after that frantic race. “Put me down.” He asked her angrily with his peculiar high pitched voice.
