Gritting his teeth Simon ignored the girls immature singsong taunt as he focused on maintaining the improvised void-shield directly in front of him. Although he was starting to get the hang of it what he was doing was no small feat; keeping track of every single individual air molecule that surrounded the vacuum and persuade them not to fill the empty space, it just went against airs nature; it had to be everywhere, the second there was gap it moved to occupy it. Normally this was a good thing becuase it meant that Zephyr was almost never powerless, however in this case it was starting to give him headache.
He sensed the twins attack the moment it was launched and he narrowed his eyes to slits as his attention was consumed by the vacuum, he couldn't afford a slip up now, that could mean defeat and his pride refused to let that happen.
As the sonic assault closed in on Zephyrs head it encountered the vacuum and suddenly the vibrating molecules found nothing to collide with, the sonic burst immediately lost its energy and dissipated to almost nothing. Simon's eyes widened in surprise as he felt the attack simply disappear, 'It actually worked?' As his mind finally began processing this little victory a smug smirk adorned his features as he he cast a contemptuous look at the two sisters. The tables had turned, 'I thinks it's time I put them back in their place'
Continuing to maintain his vacuum shield Zephyr took to the air once more and slowly drifted down from his perch on the ledge until he was just a foot above the ground. He wasn't fool enough to try walking again after what he'd seen the twins were capable of doing. Maintaining his contemptuous demeanor the elemental focused his attention on the wall directly behind the red heads, he wasn't going to waste his energy trying to attack them directly, he'd already seen that wouldn't work however there were other methods at his disposal. The twins were standing quite close close to the base of the statue, close enough for Zephyr to use their position to his advantage, creating one of his signature wind blades the elemental sliced though the solid stone at angle directly above the girls, a second later the stone came tumbling down.
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Zephyr narrowed his eyes in annoyance as he felt his surprise attack dissipate under the twins efforts. This little skirmish was quickly becoming a nuisance; it seemed as though were just as capable of nullifying his attacks as he was of theirs. There had to be some other course of action he could take, there was no way a female could equal up to his abilities, even if the odds were two against one.
Simon's moment of daydreaming cost him dearly for he suddenly found himself caught in the path of two rapidly approaching sonic assaults from either side. With no time to maneuver the elemental was forced to stand his ground and attempt to weather the attacks. Thrusting both arms away from his sides he directed his palms towards the incoming vibrations and blasted them with medium level gales which almost completed negated their effects.
Unfortunately this did little to aid his situation for the twins took advantage of his divided attention to hurl yet another sonic burst which impacted with his skull without any resistance. A spasm of pain racked the elementals body as his stomach convulsed and his head throbbed violently. Unable to fully maintain his concentration Zephyr quickly lost altitude and landed with shaking legs on the base which held the statue of liberty.
Temporarily obscured from view because the height difference Simon was finally given a moments respite. Panting loudly Zephyr gave his lungs a thorough workout as he tried to placate his revolting stomach. 'There has to be another way' he thought furiously, 'I will not be beaten by mere girls!'
Closing his eyes Simon lay down on the cool concrete as he quickly tried to think of a solution, it wouldn't be long before the twins found him again. 'They attack using vibrations' he reminded himself, 'We both use the air as our medium to attack-' Zephyr's eyes snapped open as he was hit by the sudden revelation, 'No they don't use the air; they rely on it, take away air and their vibrations will have no means of traveling'
Swinging himself into a sitting position Zephyr extended his senses once more and swiftly identified the troublesome duo by the natural disturbance they caused. He could feel the air vibrating around them, forming a dome of protection against any wind strikes he might throw at them. It seemed as though they hadn't yet discovered his position so he quickly set to work; what he was trying was completely new to him but he didn't see why couldn't work, after all he could control where the air was, so it should be no great feet to control where it wasn't. Approaching the ledge of the statues base Zephyr cast out his will towards the path of air directly in front of him, crafting it to his will he parted the individual molecules and created a space, almost instantly the surrounding air rushed forward to fill the gap by the elemental held it at bay, he needed to create a perfect vacuum and he couldn't afford to have even a single molecule of air.
Glancing down at the twins Zephyr placed a smug expression on his face as he waited for them to notice him, hopefully he would able to goad them into attacking once more, hopefully his little tactic would work, if not... the elemental didn't even consider it.
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
The girls tone was mocking but Zephyr didn't really mind at this point, he'd managed to pull one over on them and in the desolate area of his mind that was reserved for his imagination there was little scoreboard that read:
Zephyr: 1 Twins: 0
Simon's own score jumped up once again as he realized that that he'd managed to nullify the twins initial response to his challenge; earthquakes were hardly effective against someone with power of flight after all.
Unfortunately the elementals winning streak was short lived, as the troublesome duo developed identical grins Zephyr sensed a series of vibrations emanating from the girl in the sun dress to his left. Before it occurred to him raise his new found defensive abilities the twin on the right had grabbed hold of those vibrations and multiplied them exponentially as she directed them towards the elemental.
His ears screamed in protest as they were once more assaulted by the sonic sisters, this time was different though, the attack was not only higher but in pitch it also carried with more than double the amount of energy their previous warning shot had contained. The result of this was Zephyr almost falling to his knees as he stumbled backwards and his features contorted themselves in an attempt to express the excruciating agony he was experiencing. Unknown to either the twins or their victim Zephyr's ears had become more sensitive as his abilities had developed, his heightened sense of hearing normally aided him in hearing subtle murmurs of weaker breezes to more fully understand their nature. At this moment in time though this little side affect of his abilities was proving to be a great weakness.
However Zephyr had not survived in Europe’s criminal underworld by standing around like a fish on a hook, the elementals instincts once again came to his rescue, this time summoning a vicious cyclone to match the power of this new attack. The air swirled around his body like a raging torrent cutting through the sonic attack, reducing it's painful shriek to that of a dull roar.
With the ability to think somewhat clearly once again Zephyr panted as he struggled to regained his balance but eventually stood upright once more, wincing as he did so, it seemed as though the girls attack had given him one hell of a headache and even now Simon felt as though a thousand tiny midgets were pounding on his skull with mallets. When the pain faded slightly the elemental sent a glare at the two shadowy forms that were visible just outside cyclone, he'd certainly hadn't expected to be that vulnerable to their attacks, 'Still if this is the best they can do-'
Zephyr was cut off in mid thought as the twins increased the tempo of their assault the cyclone faltered for a second and caused the elemental to hold his hands to his ears as he doubled over in pain. 'Bloody Hell!' he cursed as he cut off the cyclone and took to the air; he was done being a sitting duck it was time to see how the girls like a moving target that could fight back.
Executing a complex flight maneuver that was almost as unpredictable as it was fast Zephyr twisted and twirled through the air like a fish through water. If he concentrated he could just barely detect the incoming sonic and swerve away from them making him a devil of a target. Simon wasn't simply going to evade though, if he did then things could very quickly get out of control and that was something he couldn't afford.
narrowing his eyes Zephyr extended his awareness to the air that surrounded the girls, he could feel the vibrations being amplified and directed by the one on the right. The vibrations spread out in front of the two and formed a half dome in front them and if Simon remembered his physics correctly those vibrations would act as a natural barrier to as wind attacks he threw at them. However as the blasts were being directed and not allowed to pulse naturally the twins defense only existed in front of them, their rear was wide open to attack.
Extending his will as he had done countless times before Zephyr molded the air behind the girls into a raging torrent of wind which headed towards the girls with force equal to that of a speeding train.
As the high pitched squeal cut through the air Simon features worked themselves into a grimace and he instinctively summoned a sharp gale within the vicinity of his person. The noise instantly became diluted and more bearable and caused the elemental to pause for a moment as he thought about exactly what had happened. The girls had obviously created a very mild sonic attack, something which had obviously not been restricted to just him as Zephyr could see multiple people clinging onto their ears. Somehow he had been able to dissipate the sound by using his own abilities, the question was how?
Thinking back to his ancient and despised physics lessons Simon narrowed his eyes as the answers came to him, 'Sound is simply the vibration of air' he told himself silently, 'when you speak you pass on kinetic energy to nearby air molecules which then move until they collide with another air molecule and transfer the energy the process is repeated indefinitely thus creating sound. When I summoned that gust I interrupted the transfer of some of that energy thereby reducing it's effect' a dull smirk adorned the elementals face as he came to his conclusion, he now had a means of defense against the twins attack, one that wouldn't attract unnecessary attention from nearby humans, provided the girls limited the range of their attack to his person.
Blinking his eyes Simon realized that the twins had set off across the promenade and he let out an irritated sigh; this was becoming far more difficult then he had first envisioned and he was starting to become impatient. Glancing at his surroundings Zephyr noted three separate security cameras scanning the area and he frowned; with the girls as hostile as they were now it was extremely likely that things would become quite heated and Simon had no interest in appearing on the national news. The problem was easily solved though, the elemental focused on the air surrounding the cameras and gave it a little push which resulted in a rough breeze turning all the cameras so that they faced the walls they were attached to, problem solved.
Fixing his azure gaze back on the steadily departing twins Zephyr's mouth set into a thin line, the two obviously weren't in the mood to talk and normally he would have let them be, however now that he had a form of defense against their mutation he needed to discover how effective it was against one of their stronger attacks. It was time to see just how riled up the girls could get. With a thought Simon summon a wind current that left him just barely above the ground, the effect of this was two fold; firstly it would allow him to react and maneuver more swiftly and secondly, to any casual observer this subtle levitation would be unnoticeable and that was just the way Simon wanted it.
Floating towards the red headed duo at a fast pace Zephyr continued to move his legs to give the illusion of walking for the benefit of any human who might be watching. As he neared the two girls though he strived to remain as silent as possible until he was right behind them, then in a dead whisper he uttered, "If you don't want to be civil that's fine by me, however..."
A solid gust of wind attacked the twins feet causing them to stumble forward, "...your not getting rid of me that easily"
As the twins turned away a frown formed on Zephyr's features and the wind picked up ever so slightly. Things were not going the way he had planned and his irritation was plain. Although he didn't particularly care it was obvious that the girls were bothered by something and their anxiety was the reason for their negative response.
Simon refused to be deterred though, he would get something out of this little journey and since he couldn't climb lady liberty he would satisfy himself by unraveling the nature of these girls powers. The only question was how? There were still too many people around for him to be comfortable using his own abilities in any sort of battle. He hadn't brought the tranquilizers that Hunter had given him so he couldn't relocate the girls without causing some kind of ruckus. The only option left to him was verbal persuasion and that had already failed twice, 'well they say the thirds times the charm' he thought as he composed himself once more; it wouldn't help the situation if he descended to the girls level, they weren't worth his irritation anyway.
In a somewhat resigned tone the elemental hung his head before glancing at the girls once more and trying to placate them "Well your entitled to your opinion, however as I'm stuck here for the next twenty minutes could we at least have a civil conversation?"
Zephyr raised an eyebrow as he turned to glance at the outspoken Amp, the elemental had been quite sure that he had pitched his words so that only Vibe would have been able to hear them. Perhaps the girl had enhanced hearing? The fact that the girls response had been off by a few seconds though made Simon disregard the thought, there was something else going on here the question was what?
'Yet another query for my growing list' he mused as he tried to decide how to defuse the girls; now was not the time for a confrontation, that would come later, when there were less witnesses.
Placing a polite smile on features Simon decided to try for flattery. This ploy had worked often in the past and the elemental saw no reason why it shouldn't work here; women were vain creatures after all and he had yet to find one that did not enjoy being complemented. "I meant no offense ladies" he said simply "I was merely trying to help one of my own kind" Simon paused there and glanced the two girls up and down as though he was considering something, "Still I suppose help is something you two rarely need considering how strong you are" here Simon glanced meaningfully at the cracked wall before pausing and shaking his head slightly, "Ah where are my manners, I go by Zephyr and you two are?" he waited for their response.
With his hands thrust casually into his pockets Simon made his slow descent down the gangplank amid the rest of the passengers. Moving with an uncommon grace that came from feeling lighter than air the elemental meandered around awestruck tourists and hyperactive children as he made his way onto the expansive promenade.
Paved with gleaming red and gray bricks the alternating colour scheme of the promenade was almost impossible to make out through the crowd of bodies bunched together in front of the statue. Ignoring them for the most part Zephyr strolled towards the base of the statue and gave a friendly nod to the security guard standing at the entrance. Idly the elemental wondered what the man would do if he knew that one of Interpole’s most wanted was walking into his nations most treasured monument, ‘something ill advised no doubt’.
As he wandered about the sparely decorated museum that had been constructed in the statues base Zephyr became aware of an odd disturbance in the air. The disturbance wasn’t immediately obvious but now that he was aware of it the elemental couldn’t seem to ignore it; for a human it would have been akin to a particularly a loud mosquito constantly circling their head. Trying to dismiss this oddity from his mind Simon continued to wander the two floors of the museum as he searched for the entrance to the statue itself. However when he found the spiral staircase that wound its way up into the immense inner workings of the statue of liberty he was politely, but firmly informed by a pair of armed guards that the statue was closed indefinitely.
Feeling no small amount of annoyance Simon exited the statues base and wandered about the promenade once more. As he did so he noticed that the disturbance which had caught his attention a short time ago became stronger as he neared the rear of the promenade. With nothing else to do for the moment the elemental decided he may as well go and investigate.
Compared with the front of the promenade the rear was practically deserted, a few individuals mingled about in the shade cast by the massive figurine, while others took advantage of the benches dotted at random intervals to catch their breath and relax. What particularly interested the elemental though was a pair of red haired twins set apart from the rest of the tourists. It was clear to tell from their posture that both were vexed almost to the point of violence and as Simon watched one of the girls slammed a petite fist into a granite wall, and against all rules of logic a medium sized crater formed in the solid stone. At the exact moment of this little outburst the vibrations in the air, for this is what Zephyr had identified the disturbance to be, amplified itself tenfold.
‘So they’re responsible’ the thought was overlaid with a mild level of fascination; the elemental had never met another mutant capable of manipulating the air in any way and even though the girls only seemed capable of vibrations he was somewhat intrigued by them. After observing the twins through both normal sight and the abilities gifted to him by his blood Zephyr managed to hypothesize the nature of their powers. The girl in the sundress who was leaning against the railing seemed to be the originator of the vibrations, these were rather weak and were of no real consequence. However the other twin seemed capable of harnessing these vibrations and amplifying them to dangerous levels, as was evidenced by the crumbling stone and bent iron railings.
Having formed a working hypothesis Zephyr found himself wanting to test his premise and elevate it to a working theory. Moving at a casual pace the elemental approached the red head who was currently leaning against the railing as she seemed to be the less irritated of the two, “I would suggest that you cease your little parlor trick” he said quietly, “Otherwise your counterpart is going to attract some unwanted attention.”
It wouldn’t do if the girls caught the attention of the security force before Zephyr could completely satisfy his curiosity.
As the sun rose up over the horizon Simons alarm began its 7:00am wake up blast which jarred the sleeping mutant from a rather peaceful dream he’d been having about a young girl he’d met at a night club the previous evening. With an irritable sigh the elemental rose from bed and started to get his bearings and a pleased expression slowly worked it’s way onto his features; today was the first day he wouldn’t have to spend hunting for an employer. Having managed to get on Hunters rather lucrative payroll the previous day Simon could now afford to spend his time on more worthwhile activities, such as exploring the city.
Twenty minutes later the elemental had left his penthouse suit and had taken the elevator down to the bustling streets of New York. There would be no use of his powers this day he promised himself as he navigated the crisscrossing streets and busy intersections. Today would be a day spent in relaxation as he enjoyed the privileges his three million salary could bring.
It should be no great surprise then that after wandering the city’s waterfront for the first few hours of the morning that Simon's eyes alighted upon what was supposedly the symbol of hope and goodwill for all people in this nation; the statue of liberty. Standing nearly 50m tall the pale green figure could easily be seen from the waterfront and attracted untold number of tourists daily.
Simon was about to become one of those tourists.
Moving at a slightly faster than casual pace the British mercenary quickly made his way towards the nearest dock, where he then purchased a ferry ticket for half price after indulging the naïve girl behind the counter in some light conversation. Shaking his head wryly Zephyr boarded the ferry along with everyone else, ‘It never ceases to amaze me how some girls can be affected by a simple smile and an empty discussion.’ He mused as he selected a window seat away from the general crowd. ‘I suppose it’s just another way they’re inferior to men’.
Glancing out the window Simon kept his gaze focused on the green figurine that was steadily growing larger. ‘I hope it doesn’t take too long to get there’
Zephyr remained silent as the vampire said his piece and actually raised an eyebrow skeptically when the immortal failed to reprimand him for his actions. The man was just going to let the incident slide? Somehow Simon hadn’t pictured the blood sucker as being a very forgiving person, especially after what he’d read in some of the archived files at the lab. Still he wasn’t going to complain about the situation; the mission had been accomplished, Hunter had mentioned nothing about reducing his pay and despite the fact he had lost a potential source of revenue there was a very tidy consolation prize sitting at his feet. All events considered, things had turned out rather well and the merc allowed himself a subtle smirk as he raised his hands over his head and began stretching his limbs, he had been in a rather uncomfortable position for the last ten minutes or so.
‘I suppose this cloud does have a silver lining’ he mused silently as he finished his light exercise and stood straight once more with his cobalt orbs fixed upon Zeleks final parting gifts. The synthetic stones would fetch quite a sum if he found the buyer, however for the next few months the jewels would sit peacefully within the elementals apartment and accumulate age while he sought out said buyer and revised what he knew about appraising gems.
A small sliver of light abruptly pierced the heavy wood and roused the young man from his current thoughts. Darting his eyes up towards this new source of luminescence he noted that the sun was just beginning it daily journey through the sky and was gradually crawling over the horizon. ‘It seems my time is running short.’ If the merc wanted to transport his new acquisitions with minimal hassle he would have to do so while there was still a hint of darkness in the air, he couldn’t really afford to have some tourist catch him on their camera and become a new feature on the tabloids. So after taking a moment to gather the various gems the elemental conjured a funnel of wind within the palm of his hand. This was then directed at the accumulated jewelry and had much the same affect as a vacuum; pulling the diamonds away from the earth and holding them captive within the swirling torrent of air. With his latest goods secure Zephyr had no hesitation in abandoning the earth and soaring back towards the city which now served as his home.
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Simon nodded his thanks to Hunter briefly as an extra set of attire was produced from somewhere among the mass of men the vampire had managed to bring with him. Although the black ops apparel was a little confining for his tastes it was certainly preferable to nothing at all. So without a word the merc cut through the remanence of his elaborate coffin, leaving him bare to his element for a few moments before he donned special ops suit which had been granted to him, only once he was properly clothed once more did he turn to face his employer and consider the immortals query. It was a pointless question really considering the man already likely knew the answer, why else does one remove a device which watches them? Because they do not wish to be watched, it was not a difficult concept to grasp. As for why he was disinclined to have his actions observed well, one only needed to glance around the clearing.
However Zephyr doubted that the vampire would react well to any tone of sarcasm or mockery and considering that he wished to preserve as much of his paycheck as possible the merc opted for simple honesty, “To put it plainly, I did not wish to be observed.” The young mans tone was respectful but there was a clear indication of boredom about his features and as he continued to with his response he gestured with one arm towards the small fortune decorating the forest floor, “It should take no great leap of imagination to deduce the motivation behind my actions.”
Done speaking the elemental brought his arm back to his side and watched his employer idly for some type of response, the bad mood he had been experiencing towards the beginning of this assignment was gradually starting to resurface. If Hunter chose to make an issue out of this he would find out exactly how unprofessional the merc could be when he chose.
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Entombed within his ornate coffin Zephyr would have chuckled at his present situation if hadn’t meant exhausting the little air he had, as it was a subtle smirk crept upon his features as he focused his energies on conserving the little oxygen he had and recycling it as efficiently as possible. Although his present condition was less than comfortable the insubstantial wounds he had obtained were nothing a few days rest wouldn’t heal, for now the elemental would allow Zelek to believe he had won this minor confrontation. It would make the boy lower his guard, therefore making it easier for the merc to catch him unawares the next time they met, and when they did meet again Zephyr would be to obtain full reimbursement for the kids little stunt.
Turning his thoughts outwards Simon deftly crafted a shallow breeze into existence, manipulating its size and shape so that it fanned out the farther it went from its creator. Allowing his conscious to meld into the wind as he had done when he had sedated Paragon the elemental managed to obtain a rough image of his surroundings and what he saw did not please him in the least. Zelek’s form had frozen not ten steps from the mercs current position and in front of the foolish boy was a figure Simon had no difficulty recognizing.
‘When and why did he return?’ the thought was overlaid with suspicion and a varying level of annoyance as he increased the focus and intensity of his winds just in time to watch his employer terminate what would have been his latest source of revenue, any sense of anxiety or unease that Hunter may have discovered his ulterior plans though was strangely absent. The last person Zephyr had feared had been his father but that ceased once he had had gained control of his mutation. The elemental had yet to meet another individual who could actually best him in combat, so far Tris had been the only who had come close however that case had been dismissed as a once in a life time anomaly which was never to be repeated. As far as the merc was concerned the worst the vampire could do was cut his paycheck and nothing more.
Still Zephyr had no desire to have his income slashed, monetary gain was his primary motivation after all, and so the mercenary remained within his elaborate bindings for a few moments more while he observed a squad of armed soldiers emerge from the woods and remover what was most likely a rather bloody corpse. When the immortals figure stalked right next to his current location however it became apparent the vampire wished to speak with him and so the elemental nimbly crafted two of his signature air blades to slice the upper portion of his prison both horizontally and vertically. In effect freeing him from his torso and above while leaving the now discarded potions of his bindings in four easily collectible pieces.
Taking a to replenish his oxygen reserves Zephyr inhaled slowly yet deeply as he refilled his lungs before shifting adjusting his gaze to meet his employers eyes with a a dry expression, “I don’t suppose you have an additional set of clothing?” he asked in a deadpan tone of voice, “My current apparel is less than comfortable at the moment.”
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Still coated in the shadows the British merc raised an incredulous eyebrow as he heard his opponents supposed apology, while the means of reimbursement was appealing Zephyr still had no reason to trust the boys word. He had been trying to kill the kid not five minutes ago after all, there was no real reason for the Zelek to trust at him at this stage of their encounter, logically the boy should have been considering various ways to escape or perhaps subdue the elemental in hopes of gaining information. There was no reason for the lilac haired nuisance to present him with a small fortune and offer to reverse the damage he had caused, it made absolutely no sense.
Despite knowing this though the collection of glittering diamonds on the forest floor was too tempting of an offer for the mercenary to resist. However he still had no intention of entering the Zelek’s range unless the kid was drugged or he had trained sniper by side. After considering the situation for a moment or two the elementals mind swiftly conjured a suitable solution; “That is quite a generous offer,” he observed in a tone of mild surprise as he silently descended from his perch and rested against the base of the trunk, still maintaining a good five feet between himself and his adversary, “However I’m afraid that considering the conditions of our encounter I do not completely trust you at this point…”
A strong current of wind surged into being directly behind the purple haired boy, swerving around him and focusing its energy on the log shaped diamond he had just created, propelling the oversized piece of jewelry across the dirt floor and towards the base of the tree where Zephyr was now standing. Focusing his gaze upon the jewels shining surface Simon dipped into the reserves of his gift again as he created a minute blade of air and liberating a small chunk of the stone from the larger mass and expecting it with his liberated right hand. Although he was by no means a professional jeweler the merc was aware of some of the more obvious signs which hinted at a stones value and from he could see the caliber of this sample was a cut above the rest. “Most impressive” he muttered before continuing in a louder voice, “I must commend you Zelek you seem to have a talent for jewelry, I shall remember you in the future…”
The elemental once more lapsed into silence as he considered how he wanted to proceed, the boy had not yet informed him if his gift had any type of time limit and from what little he had seen of Zeleks personality he doubted he would getting an answer any time soon without a suitable display of force, something he wanted to avoid at this point in time. A simple solution to his query would be to accept the kids rather handsome gift and keep it under observation for a reasonable period of time, if it turned out that the changes faded after time he could always dispatch the boy at his leisure. If the alterations were permanent however he would have interesting new source of revenue which led him to yet another interesting question; exactly how naive was this Zelek character? If the elemental was to have any dealing with the boy in the future he would need an appropriate understanding of the kids persona in order to evaluate how dangerous he could be in the future. If the boy had high morals and was reasonably predictable then he would represent little to no threat, however if lilac individual turned out to be similar to Hunter then Zephyr would have to tread more carefully in future encounters.
Rising without a sound once more the merc moved towards Zelek and paused just three feet from the boy, “I believe you said it was within your abilities to salvage my current attire?”
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Still concealed within the shadows of the tree he was currently occupying Zephyr observed the young man below him with a mild level of interest. He truly was curios about the boys capabilities, for the gift to change one substance to another was a rather unique trait. So far the merc had only met one other individual who was capable of such a feat, an aged mutant con artist who’d literally had the “golden touch” and had managed to cozen a significant number of people, the elemental included, into exchanging portions of their wealth for his gold. However the problem with this little exchange had been that, much like fabled treasure of the leprechauns, this gentleman’s gold had only lasted a short time before reverting back to its original state. Needless to say the old man no longer walked among the living but Zephyr had learned a valuable lesson, he would not repeat his mistake, he would find out this ones limitations and find a way to turn them to his advantage. He already the boy at his mercy after all, the kid just didn’t know it yet.
Normally the merc would have left his current perch and descended to conduct his interrogation of the violet haired individual face to face, however considering what the kid was capable of it was more prudent to keep his distance. He'd already noted from the boys earlier actions that his abilities seemed limited to close quarters range and considering that his clothes had already been transmuted he had no desire to test his targets imagination in a second encounter.
"Your not doing too bad yourself. I can create enough to get by. What is it to you? That girl has been through a lot she doesn't need this, what do you guys want with her?"[/b]
Zephyr merely shrugged as he heard his adversary’s response, the gesture was unnecessary as the kid wouldn’t be able to see it but it was a natural reaction. Simon truly had no idea what Hunter had planned for the girl nor did he truly care, it did not affect him and that was the only thing that mattered. “If you are referring to Paragon then I’m afraid I cannot tell you, I was merely hired to retrieve her. As for my interest in your abilities… I will discuss that momentarily, however I believe before we go any farther we should introduce ourselves, if only to be polite the moniker I am currently using is Zephyr…”
The elemental paused for a moment to allow the violet haired individual respond before he resumed speaking, “Now to answer your previous question the reason I am interested in your gift is because I am curious as to whether it has any time restraint, you I’d rather avoid having to purchase a new wardrobe”
The entire time he was speaking Zephyr maintained a pleasant and calm tone of voice as though he were greeting an old acquaintance and they were discussing events which had occurred in days gone past. However contrary to his tone the elementals cobalt blue eyes remained sharp and cold as they remained fixed on the shadowed figure below. If the boy tried anything out of the ordinary then he would swiftly discover that the merc could be far less pleasant.

(OOC: Sorry for the late response, I’ve had a lot to do in the past week however that’s over now and I should be able to respond in a more timely manner for the next few weeks.
...I'm going to go ahead and post this, if it causes any problems just PM me and I'll delete it.
Zephyr glanced up at the helicopter as it slowly withdrew into the dark night sky and allowed a faint smirk to creep upon his features; the primary obstacle had been overcome. The immortal hadn’t even given him a backward glance as he disappeared into the helicopter interior, though if the vampire had tried to leave a parting message there wouldn’t have been anyway for the merc to distinguish his employers words over the mild roar caused by the vehicles dual rotors.
Turning his attention to the battle at hand once more the elemental watched dispassionately as his target was hurled through the air once more with his general trajectory indicating that he would come to land somewhere within the vast cluster of trees termed a forest. Just before the violet haired youth was due to make his rather uncomfortable landing though Zephyr attention was stolen by a sudden burst of electricity slamming into the earth where his adversary had been seconds before. The moment the neon blue energy had entered the mercs vision his eyes had reacted, the night vision goggles swiftly focused upon this new source of photons and immediately did their assigned task; amplifying the available light to ten times its normal intensity. Simons pupils suddenly dilated as they were bombarded by this new source of light, electrical signals were sent along his nervous system and informed his mind of a mild pain and slight discomfort which caused him reflexively close his optics and jerk his head away from the burst of electricity which lasted less than a second.
Frozen for just a second or two Zephyr stared pointedly at the sea of shadows which surrounded him as he waited for his azure eyes to adjust once more. Truthfully there had been almost no damage done and it could be said that the elemental was overreacting, however there was a reason for his actions; namely his desire to rid himself of the NVG which currently acted as Hunters eyes while he was away from the scene. If Simon simply behaved as though the electronic optics were more trouble than they were worth than he would be able to justify removing the device without causing undue suspicion.
Pivoting slowly on his right foot the elemental turned to face his so called “teammate” and frowned ever so slightly. Jazz had been somewhat inactive before now and he had assumed that the woman had heeded his words that he wished to deal with the violet haired nuisance himself, this no loner seemed to be the case. “Although your input is appreciated Jazz I can handle events from this point on, I will report back to Hunter when I have finished so you may take your leave” Zephyr’s tone was calm and his words were perfectly civil, however the expression which currently occupied his features showed that he was not expecting any argument. This impression was further enhanced when the mercs actions; the moment he had finished talking the metallic apparel loosely binding his right arm was sliced to ribbons by an invisible force. As the shreds of copper fell onto the vans roof Zephyr used his newly liberated limb to grasp hold of the NVG goggles which adorned his cranium and deftly removed the device and allowing it to fall with a dull thud onto dry earth right beside immobile motor vehicle.
With his actions no longer being observed by his vampiric employer the elemental could at last proceed with his hastily concocted plan. Silently rising into the air the merc simply levitated for a few seconds while he attempted to pinpoint his violet target among the many trees crowding the space before him. It wasn’t an extremely difficult task; trees generally retained the same shape no matter what specious they were and so all he need do was ignore the many motionless wooden pillars until his winds encountered something far less standardized in shape, preferably something that was moving.
Zephyr’s rough search continued for roughly a minute before he found what he was looking for, a small hunched up shape which moved slightly, as though it were taking deep breaths. Focusing his thoughts now on the boys whereabouts the elemental rose higher into the night sky before soaring over the tree tops as he closed on the violet youths location. In less than ten seconds he was floating above a small hole in the foliage which had not doubt been caused by the child’s rather rough landing, if the merc squinted his eyes he could just make out the boys figure on the parched earth below, which given the lack of light probably meant that his target would be hard pressed to see anything himself. Deciding to utilize this somewhat minor advantage as best he could Zephyr silently descended through the trees until he came to rest upon a rather thick bough which looked sturdy enough to hold his meager weight. The elemental then paused for a moment as he considered his words, he couldn’t afford to be aggressive or threatening for if the boy withdrew into the earth it would be almost impossible to locate him.
After considering the situation for a moment the Zephyr decided that the only way he would be able to put his target at ease would be tell the truth; that he desired to know the extent of the kids abilities in order to increase his wealth. It was a simple answer and it was logical, Simon did not see anything the boy could fins fault with. Before he began his improvised interrogation though the elemental used his right arm to withdraw the expensive looking Rolex he had received from Hunter at the beginning of his employment, deftly removing all air molecules which surrounded the watch, the merc already knew that the chronometer function as a communication device and this was most certainly one conversation he did not wish his employer to hear. Only once he had fully encased the watch within a void did the elemental allow his voice to drift down.
“You have a most interesting gift” he noted in a calm and emotionless tone, “tell me is there any limit to what you can create?”
Zephyr observed the situation with a bored expression, his employer appeared to have requested a helicopter at some point for one vehicle was now currently resting beside their immobile van. It was not one of the smaller version either, unlike the minute models used by various news crews the aerial transport Hunter had requested was more in line with something the military would prefer to use; sporting dual rotors on top and a currently unmanned machine gun connected to one of the side entrances this vehicle was clearly not intended to be used as a toy. This impression was further reinforced when a twelve man squad armed with various pieces of weaponry abandoned the machine and spread themselves out in a tactical formation with their decidedly lethal firearms trained on the purple haired nuisance.
What happened next had both amused and annoyed the elemental; apparently Zephyrs statement had not been audible to his employer for the vampire immediately ordered half of his guards to engage the child while he worked to free himself of the unnatural bindings which currently consumed his lower legs. The men had obeyed their commands like good little soldiers and half of them had peeled away to begin unloading the van while the rest opened fire on their naive target. This was where things had gotten interesting for it seemed as though the boys eyes had already adapted to dim light and the moment he spotted the armed guards he had immediately withdrew into the earth.
At first Zephyr had believed that their violet adversary had abandoned the battle and retreated back to the mansion or where he had originated from. This theory was quickly dispersed as he silently watched Hunters men fall through the earth as though it were no more than water. ‘A true alchemist’ the merc mused indifferently as the young man burst fourth from the earth and began taunting the restrained soldiers, it was clear now that the title fit his violet haired adversary better than any other moniker. The youth was after all affecting matter on the sub atomic level, manipulating the protons of molecules in order to shift their physical characteristics, a truly unique talent, a very lucrative gift some might say and for a brief moment the elemental closed his eyes behind the night vision goggles as he weighed the consequences of what he was considering doing.
Although only a few seconds passed in reality it seemed as though hours had gone by in the mercenary’s mind but he had come to a decision and that was the only thing that mattered. Deciding that his plan would best be implemented at once the elemental shot a side long glance at his employer, “A most valiant effort,” he stated in his usual polite, yet indifferent tone of voice, “however your men seem to have fallen short of their goal.” It was clear that Zephyr thought little of Hunters men at this point in time and his criticism was meant to make it clear to his employer that his little soldiers would only get in the way from this point on. Additionally the vampire’s presence would only make it that much harder to carry out his improvised stratagem and so the merc was attempting to persuade the immortal that he was no longer needed here.
Directing a burst of wind towards the section of earth which currently contained his foot the elemental ripped the ground apart so as to free his appendage from its inconvenient bindings. Although his leg was now free his movements were still largely restricted by his metallic apparel, however there were other options open to the young merc now that he was no longer tied to the earth. Tapping into his gift once more Zephyr deftly conjured strong updraft to raise him a few feet off the ground and silently repositioned himself so that he was standing atop their crippled van which was still cast in shadow thanks to his previous actions. Scanning the area once more with NVG Simon realised with a barely restrained sigh that he would have to dispose of the optical device at some point unless he wanted Hunter view everything at his leisure at a later point in time. ‘I’ll deal with it later’ he told himself wearily as turned his attention to more pressing matters; namely his employer who had not yet left the area. Sparring the man a brief glance the elemental crafted a thin current of air to carry his voice and had the air stream wind it’s way across the open space and towards Hunter, “Although I can dispatch our adversary quite easily I would recommend that you take your leave at this point before he finds some way to sabotage your mode of transportation.”
With his first message delivered Zephyr focused his attention once more on his immature opponent who still seemed to be amusing himself with the entombed guards. The corners of Simons lips tugged down just slightly in a barely detectable frown. The kid was far to open, if they were to have the rather informative discussion the merc was planning then he needed to relocate the boy somewhere more secluded. Deciding to repeat his earlier action the elemental nimbly crafted a torrent of air behind the violet haired youth in an attempt to displace him and carry towards the small forest which grew on either side road. If he were successful he would swiftly follow the boy and convince him that it was in his best interest answer any and all questions the mercenary had, if he was unsuccessful well, he would just have to try harder.
