The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The girls were thrilled their attack worked, but grateful when he disappeared as well. When they got to their feet, Vibe grimaced, clutching at her upper arm.
>Ugh, I can't feel my arm!<
"Is it broken?" Amp limped over to her and squeezed her shoulder. If she could have screamed out loud, Vibe would have; instead she 'yelled' at her sister, who shrugged. "Well you said you couldn't feel it! At least we know it's not broken."
>Where'd that blowhard go? I'd love to break his arm, and a leg or two for good measure!<
Amp placed a hand on the ground, identifying and blocking out each sound she felt. There was a strange 'blank spot' near the statue's base, strange enough for them to investigate. They grinned slightly as they found him already watching them.
>"We see you,"< they chorused in a quiet, sing-song taunt, as Amp aimed another barrage at his skull. He was quite a ways up. Maybe they could make him sick enough to pass out and fall off of his perch. That would be a nasty fall, and just the thing to make the girls feel better.

>His head's got to feel like a construction zone right now.< Vibe grinned maliciously, her expression mirrored by her sister as they watched his face contort in pain. Their pleasure was lessened a bit when he hid behind the windstorm, but Amp upped the attack to compensate.
The girls huffed when he took to the air, and began dodging their sonic bursts.
"What's the matter Weather Man? We thought you wanted to talk? So come down here and-"
>Incoming!< Vibe cut her off. At the same instant both girls became aware of the rear attack.
Forgetting about Zephyr for the moment, Amp slammed a fist downward into the ground. A small crater formed below their feet as the blast pulsed down, then up and outward. The attack pushed back against the windstorm, cutting its force down considerably, but the storm still had enough force to knock the girls rolling into a nearby wall. Amp managed to put up a sonic cushion, and the wall crumbled with the impact. Fortunately for them, they were immune to their own sonics, or they would have been crushed by the forces.
Before even getting to their feet, Amp launched another set of attacks at the elemental. She sent simultaneous blasts on either side of him, alternating pitch and narrowing in distance. If he simply kept dodging, he'd end up sandwiched between the two blasts. Amp waited for that moment before aiming another barrage at his skull, trying to unbalance him and send a wave of nausea through his stomach.

As fixed on their own issues as they were, the twins were caught off-guard. Vibe visibly jumped when he practically whispered in their ears. Amp missed the challenge, but both were thrown off-balance by the sudden gust. They quickly regained their balance and turned to face him, eyes blazing. The ground below them began to rumble ever so slightly.
Vibe's gaze shifted just slightly.
>He's floating, just above the ground. No footsteps,< she reported silently.
"Nice 'parlor trick'," Amp mocked his earlier words aloud. The ground stopped shaking, though most of those still on the promenade decided they should take cover should it be a real earthquake.
>Since low isn't working, shall we try high again?<
One-sided grins lit both of their faces. Another shriek of sound was sent through the air, doubled this time, and aimed directly at Zephyr, followed by another, and another, and another. Each pulse increased in pitch as it was fired, until the sounds were so high, they seemed constant. Amp held his gaze unwaveringly. Staring was one of their favorite intimidation techniques, not to mention a fairly decent distraction.
Nearby, one of the many stray cats that could be found in the city, sat up from its sunny napping spot on the railing. It hissed, claws unsheathing and sheathing as it watched the trio.

Vibe glared at him and straighted up. >What part of 'not interested' does he not get?<
Amp likewise turned again, this time hands on her hips. Both girls' green eyes pulsed angrily. "Listen, pal, are you deaf? You want to hold a conversation, go find a mirror. We're in no mood to be civil right now. So be smart, take a hint, and get lost."
An ear-piercing squeal split the air, the kind that makes you wince and cover your ears for a moment. With their 'hint' delivered, the twins turned and stalked away. Neither of them paid attention to the sudden breeze.

"I meant no offense ladies. I was merely trying to help one of my own kind. Still I suppose help is something you two rarely need considering how strong you are."
This time both twins turned to look at the newcomer, giving him one of their famous, in-sync 'once-over' stares. Brown hair, blue eyes, half a foot taller than them; he looked fairly normal for the most part. Definitely couldn't tell he was mutant on the surface.
Amp and Vibe were as vain as half of the other teenage girls in the world, moreso even. And normally they would have even ignored the fact that the flattery in his voice wasn't reflected in his eyes. But at that moment they weren't in the mood to be placated.
"Ah where are my manners, I go by Zephyr and you two are?"
As one they rolled their eyes and turned away again. "Not interested," Amp replied shortly. If he didn't take the hint, then things were going to get 'loud'.

>We've got company,< Vibe stated without turning around.
If the person thought they were sneaking up on the pair, they would be disappointed. Amp also heard the footsteps coming, though they were unusually light, but she also ignored them. People were coming and going constantly anyway, most of them ignoring the irate pair. If this person was smart, he'd avoid them as well.
“I would suggest that you cease your little parlor trick. Otherwise your counterpart is going to attract some unwanted attention.”
So much for being smart. There was a slight pause in Amp's pacing as Vibe translated. Then she snapped, "Mind your own business and keep moving Jack."
Neither of the girls looked at him, though they did wonder fleetingly how such soft footsteps came from a man.
As people began to disembark on the famous island, with their camera shutters clicking away like good little tourists, a not-so-innocent pair had slipped behind the Lady Liberty’s back. A pair of red-headed teenagers stood on the outdoor promenade on the far side of the statue. Actually, one of them, dressed in a green and ivory sundress with a fishnet overshirt, leaned against the guard rails of the promenade wall, tapping her foot rapidly. The other paced back and forth, arms crossed across a rust-colored T-shirt, worn with a pair of faded jean capris. On the surface the pair appeared to be normal, run-of-the-mill human twins. It didn’t take a genius to tell they were both very, very annoyed. Eventually, the pacing one stopped, and slammed a fist into the metal guard rail. A low pitched rumble accompanied the hit, and left a small dent in the metal, the first clue they were not normal humans.
“We should have wiped that stupid smirk off of his face when we had the chance! He had no business butting in like he owned the world!”
>It’s not like we had a chance, with all of the badges moving in.<
“We still could’ve blasted out his ear drums. You can bet I will next time.”
>If we can find him. This is New York, dumbell. Mutant Central, population, who knows?<
To anyone eavesdropping, it would sound as if the one girl was losing her mind, holding a one-sided conversation, while the other merely listened. But Amp could hear her sister clearly, though nothing else.
“Grrrrah! If I ever get hold of that creep again, I swear he’ll never hear another sound for the rest of his life!”
The pacing Amp turned and swung at the wall. Again, a low rumble sounded as a chunk was blasted out of the wall, crumbling on the ground below. Vibe watched, still tapping out a myriad of vibrations through her feet, feeling and fueling her sister’s angry responses. Anyone crossing the Sonic Sisters' paths today was in for a world-class headache.
(OOC: Sorry, didn't feel like switching accounts.)
The words reaching Iris still didn't quite make sense to her, but they seemed to be getting angry again. She curled up a little tighter in reflex.
Atop the ice dome, the frozed cat unwrapped itself and stood upright, arching its back a little. A thin layer of ice crept outward over the floor, freezing the two arguing girls in place for a moment.
"Friends.... calm..." Iris's voice seemed to come directly from the ice, as opposed to from her. The ice shivered a bit, then shrunk back again as she struggled to control it again.

The girls watched in mild fascination as Fade’s eyes seemed to be having an identity crisis, changing colors rapidly. And the face she was making...
"What am I doing here? What do you mean what am I doing here? What are you doing out there? Kidnaping? Sending animals at me? I didn't know you were mutants!"
Vibe blinked. >What??< She shook her head and repeated to Amp. In turn the shorter-haired twin put hands on her hips. ”What kidnaping? We didn’t didn’t kidnap anyone!” Technically that was true....
Amp shook her head, her expression a mixture of confusion, anger and disbelief. ”This isn’t making any sense! Look, I don’t know who you are, or who you think we are, but our cousin wasn’t a mutant. Uncle Rob and Aunt Debbie would have told us if she was. Plus she wouldn’t be caught within miles of these... stuffed shirts! This conversation is over. We’re outta here!”
With that both girls turned and strode toward the front door, visibly shaken, their previous mischievous thoughts forgotten.

"How do you know that name? No one has called me that since I was four."
Vibe froze. Amp was looking in another direction, but felt her sister stiffen. She looked at her. It took a long moment before Vibe was able to translate.
"You can't be the twins, it's not possible. If you were, then I would have been sent to live with you and your family and not some strange one."
The sisters's minds were reeling by that point, and it showed in their faces. They hadn't thought about their cousin in years. They'd only been six when they were told that she was kidnapped and killed, and that the rest of the family had died not long after. And that was all anyone would ever say about it. Anytime they'd asked their mother, she would grow quiet, and simply tell them to 'let the dead rest in peace.' No more, no less. The only reason they knew of the kidnapping was because Vibe had been eavesdropping one night. Not long after that their family had moved. The girls remembered their father being uneasy, and rushed, but that was all. Then school had started... and the bullying....
"You are lying...are you?"
The girls exchanged a disbelieving look. So many thoughts.... so many questions.... But the only one that came out was,

The sisters smirked smugly as Fade grimaced. Apparently she was still recovering from the battle outside KP.
>Serves her right,< Vibe snapped.
"Dead? Dead? Do I look dead to you? I'm the only one left alive in my family! Twelve years ago I was trapped in some man's basement! Fighting for my life! So if I died there, tell me please. When I was found, the cops told me that my mom and dad died in a car accident and that my sister commited suicide! So I'm not dead, they are!”
The twin smirks gradually disappeared, leaving confusion and unease in their place. Fade’s story was beginning to sound alarmingly familiar, and they didn’t like where this conversation was heading....
“I was sent away to live with a family that didn't care, that didn't last long, I've been living on the streets since then, so if that is dying to you, then you can go because I will not be treated like this!”
"If you were really my family you wouldn't be twins...we didn't have any...Wait...I had twin cousins, red heads as well, but you can't be them..."
Fade’s voice may have gotten softer, but the girls heard her loud and clear. And their reactions were somewhat comical. In sync their eyes widened and their jaws dropped, and they looked at each other.
>It’s not possible! Mom told us that creep killed her!<
“You can’t be Jenjen!” Amp snapped aloud. Suddenly both girls started feeling claustrophobic. They dropped whatever they were holding and left the room in a hurry, shoving roughly past Fade. ”There’s no way you’re her,” Amp muttered as they shoved by, moving out into the hallway. But it was obvious from their eyes that the sisters were suddenly unsure of themselves.

"Yes, my folder. Jenny McCullen is my legal name, I just don't go by it. What the hell do you mean, 'I have no respect for the dead'? I have paid my debts, I respect the dead. I have encountered many deaths in my life that I wasn't around to stop so if you would leave now, it is advised."
Amp and Vibe visibly stiffened, their eyes almost glowing angrily. ”We’ll leave when we’re ready,” the speech-gifted red-head snapped back.
"I have no clue who you two think that you are and I will be damned if you are to make another assumption about me and who I owe respect to."
”We’re her family, that’s who!” Amp send a shockwave at the loudmouthed girl, intending to knock her into the wall, masking the sound at the same time. It was obvious both her and Vibe were furious. Vibe slammed the folder down on the desk, sending various papers flying. ”Jenny McCullen is dead! She was killed over twelve years ago. And no glorified ghost girl has the right to go around using her name!”
There was absolutely no reason not to believe Fade was telling the truth. Jenny was as common a name as Mary or Julie, and while McCullen may have been a bit more unusual, they were in New York City; Irish and Scottish names were still very common. But the Twins’ animosity stemmed from something else, something deeper. And, naturally, once they got an idea stuck in their heads, it stayed stuck....

Amp rolled her eyes and yawned as Miss Invisible went into her explanation of 'private' and 'stupid', ignoring the insults thrown in. Vibe heaved a silent sigh, and took the folder from her sister, opening it idly to scan it again.
>Honestly, don't people understand the concept of sarcasm 'round here?<
Amp scoffed aloud when Fade called them Tweedle Dee and Dumb. "Oh yeah, that's original."
"I am going to have to decline your rematch, you lost, let's not get too tied up in things."
"We lost? Last I remember you were the one being dragged around like a rag doll." Amp conveniently refused to remember how rough of shape they'd been in after that battle. Her ankle was still stiff.
"I'm going to again ask you to leave, but before you do, put down my folder and whoever else's you hold in your hand. I know you are upset that I was able to get away, but you won't find much of a weakness in some paperwork."
"As if we'd need a file to tell us your weakness! You can't even run without us 'seeing' you-"
Abruptly Amp stopped, and Vibe looked up. A look of momentary confusion passed over their eyes. "Wait a minute. Your folder? You're Jenny McCullen?" The confusion melted into anger, for an unseen reason. Amp narrowed her eyes.
"Nice alias. But just a friendly suggestion," Amp snapped, her voice dripping with both sarcasm and malice, "Next time you choose a name to hide behind, show some originality and make up your own. Even the dead deserve some respect from the likes of you."

>You wouldn't believe some of the powers these kids have,< Vibe scoffed. >Able to become thin as paper? What's he gonna do? Give someone a papercut?<
Amp grinned. She was systematically taking pictures off the wall, looking for obvious safe hiding places.
>Check this one out. Able to change skin color to any color of the rainbow. Bet that's a riot at parties.<
Amp rolled her eyes.
>Hmmm... Ability to seduce or hypnotize others.<
They paused, then looked at each other. >"Cool."<
They went back to their separate interests. Suddenly Vibe frowned. >Amp? What's Mom's maiden name?<
"McCullen," she answer aloud. "Why?"
>There's Jenny McCullen registered here.<
"What??" Amp dropped what she was doing and went to look. She picked up the form and scanned it quickly, then shook her head.
"Phasing? Nah, its gotta be a different Jenny McCullen. Jenjen wasn't a mutant. Besides, Mom said she die-"
"What might you two be doing here? This office is private and if you do anything stupid, I will contact all of the X-Men here and have you escorted out."
Amp slapped the folder shut as someone suddenly appeared in the room. Vibe shot to her feet. Suddenly both girls grinned.
"Well, if it isn't Miss Invisible," Amp replied. "You mean this is a private office? Now we never would've known that if you hadn't told us." Vibe snickered silently, crossing her arms. "And what do people mean when they say 'don't do anything stupid'? Honestly, it's such a corny line." Amp also crossed her arms, still holding the file that read 'Jenny McCullen'.
Amp and Vibe made their way down the hall of the main floor of the Mansion. They didn’t bother with masking their movements; they were masters of stealth anyway, and it seemed that the entire Mansion was asleep. Unless someone was wandering around for a midnight snack, they were likely to remain undiscovered. Even then, the girls would hear their footsteps before someone else heard them.
>Wow, this place is huge!< Vibe mused as they wandered. Amp merely nodded agreement. They passed the dining room and kitchen, only pausing momentarily. There were some pretty expensive looking items scattered around, including electronics; kind of surprising since the place was supposed to be a school for mutants. School implied learning, and mutants implied violence. Result? Broken and now-not-so-expensive items. Still, they were too bulky to carry without effort, and a pain to pawn, so the girls ignored them. Instead they began opening and closing doors. For the moment they were simply exploring.
Amp smirked. She placed a hand on the knob. A little sound masking, a little concentration and...
The door swung silently open. The girls slunk in, and shut the door behind them. Vibe flipped on the light. Looking around, she snorted.
>Busy lady,< she said, noting the mounds of paperwork. She moved to sit behind the desk, and began going through the files. She wasn’t much of a reader, but she was nosy. Once she found the resident files, and saw that they held records of powers, she became entranced. Her foot tapped idly.
Meanwhile, Amp began going through the room looking for a safe. She figured there had to be one somewhere in the Mansion, and this was a natural place to begin looking. The girls went about their various tasks in silence.
