The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Congratulations! You have just become a part of the greatest show on earth! You should feel proud!"
Skydancer wasn't willing to go that far yet but she nodded her head anyway. Anything she did she wanted to be the best at and anything she was a part of, ultimately, she wanted to be the best. She was a novice now, however, and understood that being the best took a great deal of time and effort. It was effort she was willing to put in, of course, but she couldn't expect such things to happen instantly. This circus was a start and, thus far, the only circus she had seen; thus it was the best she had been to thus far. That didn't actually mean it was the best but time and experience would tell that story.
When Will O' Wisp jumped back at her extended hand, Skydancer looked at him quizickally. Did he really have cause to be so paranoid? Then again, she knew how difficult it was to be a visible mutant and her visible mutation wasn't even a particularly intimidating one. She was just purple and hairless, he was some kind of disturbing monster. When is spiked taile came up to meet her hand, this time it was her that jumped back. In her startlement, several tubes burst from her skin and raced towards him, though she was able to hold them back before they did anything regretable. "Sorry, they have a mind of their own sometimes." She let out a nervous laugh and let the tubes remain hovering around her head, piercing sharp tips clearly visible.
"If you get to know me a little better I might let you know my real name... if I don't kill you first I mean. You know, poison your food or all that."
"Stage name works," Skydancer agreed. It was kind of a mutant thing anyway, from what she had been able to glean, going by a different name. It occured to her to wonder if Will O' Wisp actually thought Skydancer was her real name, which would have been a rather odd one to have. It was the one she most often went by, the one that most represented who she was since her mutant transformation, but it obviously wasn't her real name. Or at least she thought it was obvious. Maybe circus performers just weren't very bright, or maybe they were so used to such an unusual life that they looked at things a little differently than the outside world might have.
"If you get to know me a little better I might let you know my real name... if I don't kill you first I mean. You know, poison your food or all that."
That was a comment Skydancer was less inclined towards simply accepting. She gave her fellow mutant a long look, not entirely certain if he was being serious or not and deciding maybe it was best that she just avoid him when eating, if possible. Amazing performer he might be, but she was beginning to get the impression that he was not what she would consider to be a nice person. It was entirely possible that he might be something far worse than a nice person and she was suddenly thankful for the fact that she had her tubes out to protect her, if need be. Spiked and able to ignite on fire he might be, but she had a few tricks of her own if it should ever come to that.

A 'maybe' was more than Skydancer was expecting to get, as begrudging as that 'maybe' was. Why, it was almost an admittion of partial guilt in the situation and she didn't have to know the girl well to know that she probably didn't admit to guilt often. Or perhaps never. And that was irritating all on its own.
"If you steal my stuff? It is an absurd question. I will buy everything again."
"You would...buy everything again." Skydancer's voice took on a dumbfounded tone. Why, of course she would simply by everything again. Apparently she had forgotten, for a moment, that this girl was some self-important wealthy little princess that got everything she could possibly want with no more effort than the snap of her fingers. That was reason alone to try and make her life a little more difficult, because she deserved a taste of what it was like to not have her every whim catered to simply because she desired it.
It was time, Skydancer decided, to really play the intimidating mutant card. She wasn't sure if the girl was just very stubborn, very stupid or the light just wasn't enough for her to notice that she was a mutant, but now she intended to change that. There were certain things that the dim night light simply couldn't hide.
"Didn't your parents ever tell you that mutant's were dangerous," Skydancer asked, her voice sly. No, she didn't intend to actually hurt the girl but what harm was there in scaring her a little? She deserved it for being such a self-important brat. Two purple tubes burst from the sides of her chest and began moving slowly towards their target. Hopefully the deadly sharp tips would be visible even in the shadows.

As Skydancer waited for Aura to arrive, she took an interest in watching the people around her. A woman came up to the desk to order something and she swore the woman had to be half squirrel. She had a big, bushy tail and everything and it took Skydancer a surprising amount of willpower not to run up and start petting her. Something told her that would probably be seen as rude. If she had to be one of the freak mutants, why couldn't she have at least ended up fuzzy?
When Aura finally arrived at the shop Skydancer rose and extended a hand to her. It felt a tad surreal to be meeting her under non-stressful circumstances. The first time she had been living on the street and while there hadn't been any immediate danger around, it was nevertheless not a good time in her life. The second time involved a cult trying to sacrifise her to some crazy god or another and that was an even less good time in her life. Nearly being sacrifised was something she preferred never to have to repeat. It was only because of Aura and Jirou that almost being sacrifised hadn't become actually sacrifised.
"It is good to see you under better condition's"
"The feeling is definately mutual. Care for a coffee?" The money she had brought with her technically wasn't hers. Soon, once she started performing, she expected to have money of her own but for now she was relying upon the generosity of those who ran The Mansion. It was something she hated doing, but was was necessary for the time being.

Since coming to New York City Skydancer's life had both gotten better and had gotten far more chaotic than she ever could have expected. She was no longer on the streets and she was finally starting to come to terms with the fact that she was one of the freaks and maybe, just maybe, that might not be such a bad thing and both of these were good things. She had applied to work in the circus something that, if it worked out, would actually put her bizarre appearance to good use. Of course it was on a trial basis only, for now, and she had a lot of work ahead of her if she was to actually secure herself a permanent place, but it was a real start.
The chaotic part of her new life had to do with certain less positive things. Between getting attacked by anti-mutant thugs, getting turned into a child and almost being sacrificed by a cult of M abusers, she hardly knew which way to turn anymore or what might be coming at her next. Then there was the fact that, despite all visible evidence of kindness and no ulterior motives, she didn't entirely trust the people who ran The Mansion. It still seemed too good to be true, that there must be some catch involved in her being able to stay there. If her new circus career worked out she might not have to concern herself with that much longer, but in the meantime she desperately felt she needed to know more.
Which brought her to Aura. Skydancer couldn't' exactly call the mutant woman a friend; she had only met her twice and one of those times involved rescuing her from the cult of M abusers. However, she was on good terms with her, or so she thought, and she knew Aura had information on the other side of the Mansion vs. Sancuary conflict. It was a conflict she knew far too little about and one she intended to learn more about. The Mansion side of things she was slowly becoming knowledgeable on but, of course, the only way to get knowledge on the other side was to go there herself and investigate herself. She knew how biases worked and asking those on one side of a conflict about those on the other was a recipe for disaster.
A quick phone call to Aura's cell established a meeting place near Sanctuary at a little mutant friendly coffee shop she had heard about. There they would hopefully have a chance to talk and maybe even a chance to see Sanctuary itself. Skydancer dawned her wig before heading out. Soon she hoped to find the right mix of makeup to be able to cover her purple skin in order to blend in better when it was convenient to do so, but she was still working on that and so opted simply for a long jacket and large sun hat.
The trip to to Bean Around the World was thankfully uneventful. Collecting up some change, Skydancer ordered herself a coffee and sat down at a table across from the door, waiting for Aura to arrive. It was nice sitting in a place where her purple skin barely got a second glance.

Skydancer couldn't imagine what it would be like to be on fire, but she was guessing that Will O' Wisp didn't feel any real discomfort from it. Or at least, it looked like it didn't feel any discomfort from it but she wasn't about to ask stupid questions like it. It was probably just the sort of question that he got all the time and she wasn't going to be one of those annoying fan girls; especially not if she wanted to actually get into the business of circus performing. Stupid questions, she was guessing, was something she'd probably have to get used to if she actually managed to follow through with her plans.
"I'm glad you found enjoyment in it, and I'll find m y enjoyment from the small bit of money that I earn out of you,"
"I'm happy to help," Skydancer answered. The fact that it wasn't really her money but rather Mansion money was something she failed to mention as it didn't really seem all that important. For that matter, she wasn't sure that this was the sort of thing she was supposed to use funds for, but that was besides the point. The money was going towards a good cause and, if all went well, in the very near future she'd be able to make her own money and not have to rely upon the generosity of others any longer. It would be a good feeling to finally become independent.
Once Will O' Wisp left, Skydancer was left alone with the man who ran the circus. The conversation started out with something of a lack of confidence on her part, but the more she talked, the more her confidence returned. Yes, she could perform tricks due to her years of gymnastics training. No, she had never been an acrobat before. Yes, she was willing to work for cheap. Yes, she was more than willing to learn and put in hours of work doing so, if need be. Yes, she was willing to illustrate what her mutant power was. In the end, a trial period was what she got and that was all she really could have asked for. Now that she had her in, she was certainly she could cement her place there. Dedication had always been a strong suite.
Once the arrangements had been made to meet the people who would help her adapt and learn a few new skills, Skydancer went outside, rather more pleased with herself than was properly modest. Modesty was overrated anyway. Once outside, Will O' Wisp wasn't difficult to spot, although his appearance was no less unnerving than it had been when she first arrived. "Thank you for introducing me," Skydancer spoke once she got into hearing range. "I'm Skydancer and, once again, your performance was amazing. I can only hope that one day I will be able to do something half so impressive." She extended a hand for shaking.

The girl really was something else. Skydancer couldn't clearly see her expression due to the dim light outside, but she could guess what it might look like based upon the tone of her voice.
"You're the one who jumped on me."
"I think the jumping was rather mutual," Skydancer replied. She remained calm, more amused at the outraged girl than anything. Didn't she realize that Skydancer was a mutant and that mutants were dangerous? Maybe she was just so consumed with rather at the nerve of her to accidentally bump into her that she didn't notice? Maybe glaring would help? Ya, glaring sounded like a good plan and so she put her most threatening expression on her face, just to see if it would work. Because one of the advantages of being one of the freaks was that she could frighten people and, well, that was a skill she needed to work on improving so she might as well work on it with the spoiled little rude girl.
"Would you help me find my bag, please? Quickly. I have not all day."
Well, that certainly started out better, but the phrase tacked on at the end really didn't help her much. "No," Skydancer answered with a sly smile. "I don't think I will." Her voice had almost as much sugary sweetness as the girl's. She was having fun with this. "What if I decided to steal your stuff instead? What would you do?" She didn't make any effort to actually follow through with her threat, nor did she have any intent on actually doing so. But really, now, the girl just needed to be knocked down a few pegs and she figured she may as well be the one to do it.

Skydancer wasn't really sure what to expect of the circus. Despite her years of gymnastics training, something of a sister skill to acrobatics, she never really paid much attention to that side of things. Every waking moment, it seemed, had been spent either at school, sleeping or training. When one trained for the Olympics, it really didn't leave much time for anything else. Driven was the one word that virtually everyone had used to describe her, either that or obsessed and she coudln't exactly disagree with them. What little she did know of the circus was gained through watching TV.
The longer the show went on, the more Skydancer was certain that she had made the right choice in coming there. As a teenager, she never could have predicted that her life might go in that direction; but then, she never could have predicted that she'd one day wake up purple. It was different than her gymnastics had been, with more of an emphasis on theatrics and less on actual competition. There were similarities too, however, and the roar of the crowd was one of them. It was something that she sorely missed hearing; the adulation of fans as she engaged in amazing feats of physical fitness.
It was the mutant doorman that Skydancer was most interested in and she gasped in awe, just like everyone else in the crowd, when he burst into flames. Even knowing that it was most likely something to do with his power didn't stop the feeling of awe and admiration that welled up inside of her. The way he leaped into the air and the feats he performed with the beam were simply amazing to behold. For a while Skydancer forgot why she was even there, so absorbed was she in the pure spectacle of the show. In a way it was even better than being a legitimate athlete; as an athlete one really couldn't afford the attention to play to the crowd. As an athlete it was all about the competition, excelling at what you did in order to defeat your opponents. The circus, it seemed, was different. The performers were no less athletic than the men and woman she used to train with, and yet there was something extra there too, something mesmerizing. It was a world that, in that moment, she was determined to become a part of.
As the show wound to a close and Skydancer stood up and applauded with the rest of the crowd, her nervousness returned. What if she didn't' have what it took? Or, even worse, what if they weren't even willing to give her a chance to prove herself? She wasn't used to the feeling of being out of her element, of being a complete novice and yet that's exactly what she was when it came to the circus. Her whole life she had dedicated to the pursuit of one single activity and that activity was not what she meant to pursue now. Still, there was only one way to rectify that fact and she did her best to force down her discomfort.
In what she hoped was a confident walk, Skydancer approached Will-O-the-Wisp and the man he was talking too. "I really enjoyed your performance out there. It was positively amazing." The words were heartfelt and enthusiastic.

In the weeks since Skydancer had come to New York, she had time to do a lot of thinking about her life and about the pros and cons of it. She had a safe place to stay at The Mansion, even if she still wasn't entirely sure she could trust her situation there. She had the opportunity to meet a couple of mutants who had helped to show her that her situation wasn't so bad as she originally thought it was and she had gotten herself a wig, which made her feel much better about actually blending in with the people around her. Of course she still had that purple skin problem, but that was something she was working on.
Life, as it turned out, didn't end when one became a visible mutant. While her dreams of becoming an Olympic athlete might have ended, that didn't mean everything else had to end with it. Between Koga and Dahlia, her two lizard mutant friends, she had a new appreciation for the life she now found herself in. It wasn't necessarily the life she would have chosen for herself, but having come to accept that it was the life she now had, she wanted to make the best of it. After all, for all the disadvantages of being purple (disadvantages she was working on mitigating) there were all sorts of fantastic advantages as well. She could do things that mere humans could only dream of doing.
Having come out of her depression, Skydancer began seriously considering where to go with her life next. There weren't a lot of options for a purple mutant in the human world but, just as she was beginning to let her frustration get the best of her, she had it. The circus. If there was any place she could excel, surely that would be it? There her bizarre appearance might just work to her advantage and surely her years of training as a gymnast would also help if she were to become a professional acrobat? Not only that, but she loved nothing more than to perform in front of a crowd and to see the awe in people's faces as she performed amazing feats of athleticism. That decided, it was a simple matter of tracking down the circus and figuring out how to get there.
Knowing that, for once, she wanted her mutant appearance visible for all to see, Skydancer opted out of wearing the wig that had become part of her usual attire when leaving the safety of The Mansion. The taxi ride to the circus was as unpleasant as she knew it would be, but once there the looks she received were surprisingly easy to ignore given her level of excitement and optimism, both of which had been rare feelings in the last few years.
As Skydancer made her way slowly up the line, it soon became clear that the greeter was a fellow mutant, and one who looked a little on the disturbing side, at that. Still, looks could be deceiving and she hated to be judged by her own appearance, so she didn't her slight discomfort show. "For one please," she spoke once it was her turn in line. "And I'm interested in, uh, applying to join the circus if possible. As an acrobat maybe." She wasn't entirely certain how one applied to join the circus, but that seemed as good a way as any.

"Watch where you walk."
Well that wasn't very nice. "Maybe its you who should watch where you're going," Skydancer snapped back. She was having such a lovely day that she didn't need it ruined at the end by some self important girl. Normally Skydancer tried to be nice to the people around her, but she wasn't going to take abuse from anyone, not anymore.
"Look for my things."
As the girl frantically started looking for her things, Skydancer merely stood there watching. She arched an eyebrow at the demand. Why did some people assume that you would just help them if they yelled at you demandingly enough? It was the kind of attitude she really didn't appreciate, the sort that suggested they were used to getting exactly what they wanted without having to lift a finger for it. Skydancer had worked for everything in her life and was proud of her successes. It just rubbed her the wrong way when others got what she had worked for handed to them.
"You know, if you asked nicely that might actually help your cause," she stated sardonically. Maybe if the girl said please Skydancer might help. Maybe. If she was feeling generous.

Especially with M still prominent around, I'm sure its not entirely unusual to have someone losing control of their powers. Either that or falling off a bridge could work as well. There aren't earthquakes in New York, are there?

Sometimes being a gymnast wasn't so different than taking part in an obsical course. In both instances dexterity and physical fitness were very important, as well as being able to think on your feet. Of course, as a human Skydancer had real competition on both cases, as a mutant not so much. She had advantages that no human could ever hope to compete with and even the idea of competing on that level would have been innately unfair. Mutant powers were cheating. Unless, of course, one was competing with a fellow mutant, which Kyle was.
"I look forward to seeing what you can do," Skydancer answered. She didn't have a clear idea of what, exactly, his power was but given the eagerness of his little suggestion, she had a feeling it was something that would help him with such a game. Whatever it turned out to be, she was certain it would prove to be interesting.
Keeping up was the name of this particular game and keeping up was exactly what Skydancer intended to do. As soon as Kyle sped off, she was quick to follow, two tubes coming out of her shoulders. She sped to the end of the roof and leapt, not even thinking about the ground far below her. A tube wrapped itself around a pole on the roof across from her and pulled her safely to that rooftop. She didn't let go, instead allowing the moment to spin her in whatever direction Kyle led.

Well, it was a relief to hear that Thomas had been in worse fights than this, if his words could be believed. Which was in serious doubt given the reasons they were currently in this mess. Instead of responding verbally she opted for an angry glare before reaching for her next handhold and swinging further up.
Just as it looked like the two of them might be close to being out of trouble the explosion happened. Because of course things could never be simple for Skydancer, something surely had to go wrong. The story of her life, making it 95% and then having the unforeseen occur and potentially ruin everything. Wonderful.
As much as she preferred not to swear, Skydancer couldn't restrain the string of swears as numerous small pieces of glass cut and embedded themselves into her flesh. Those weren't the problem, however, as those would heal just as soon as they were removed. The problem was the large piece of brick that collided with her left shoulder. Pain shot through it and she felt the tubes under her skin shatter and their shards embed themselves into her body. She almost lost her grip on her current handhold as the pain radiated from her shoulder.
