The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The girl appearing seemingly out of nowhere jumped and yelped, echoing Skydancer's own jump and yelp. Seeing as how the mysterious newcomer was just another person, she stood a moment as her heart stopped beating quite so fast and caught her breath.
"OK, sorry about the yelling. You startled me is all. You know, with the appearing out of nowhere thing." Skydancer stood up and retrieved her book from half way across the room.
"I don't believe we've met. I'm Skydancer and I guess I should get used to these sorts of things, being in a school full of mutants." She offered a sheepish smile by way of apology for her unfortunate reaction.

It was good to have a quiet evening to herself. Skydancer had always had a problems just sitting and relaxing. She was constantly driven and all too often, in those moments she did allow herself to relax, she felt guilty for doing so afterwards. After all, she should actually be doing something, not just enjoying herself. At that moment, however, she couldn't' bring herself to care and that moment was a good one.
"I knew it wasn't lupus."
Skydancer jumped 2 feet into the air and her book went flying as the strange voice came out of nowhere. "Oh my god, you scared the crap out of me!" She turned to face the voice, heart beating a million miles a minute inside her chest.

While the cover-up didn't do quite what Skydancer had wanted it to do, it seemed to her like it was a good start. She didn't' expect perfection the first time around anyway, so it wasn't as if she could feel too disappointed. One step at a time and eventually she would find success. Envisioning the ideal outcome was the first step to gaining that outcome, or so her coaches had always told her.
"It's lookin' good, but do you wanna see if a darker complexion conceals the purple a little more effectively?"
"Fantastic idea," Skydancer agreed, allowing her optimism to creep into her voice. After so long being depressed and pessimistic, it felt good to finally feel positive again. Pessimism wasn't really her natural state although it had come depressingly close to becoming it.
Skydancer wiped off the layer of makeup she had put on her arm before rifling through for a darker shade. Once applied, she waited for it to dry. The results were somewhat better than her first attempt, although a little purple still shone through. "Do you think a second layer might help?"

I am completely full on threads at the moment, but if you give me a little while for a couple of them to wrap up, I'd be interested in threading with Mikey in the relatively near future.

If Skydancer hadn't actually seen Aura in action, she never would have believed the young woman capable of the violence she had heard of her. Here she was, sitting and calmly conversing just like any other person she might meet. Yet, she knew what the girl was capable of because she had seen her in action. She had saved Skydancer's life and for that she was grateful, but she had to remember just how dangerous she could be. Dangerous, at least, to her enemies of which Skydancer was glad to note that she didn't appear to be one of.
"Being who we are can make things hard. Our people hold a lot of sorrow on their shoulders. However their are no right or wrong steps, you will find the path you are suited for. Nature gave us our gifts to aide us on those paths."
Those were wise words and Skydancer nodded thoughtfully. "I wish mutants didn't have to hide what we are. Do you know, when I was a child I had an aunt who was a mutant and then, later, my sister. I wanted nothing more in this life than to be a mutant myself; it was my greatest dream. Then, when it finally happened, I was one of the freaks, the ones people targeted simply because I looked a little different and that dream turned into a nightmare." She was only just starting to come to terms with her life and her appearance. She wasn't' quite to the point of full acceptance yet, but she was getting there.
"Sanctuarys people tend to be transient, in other word's some stay a few days other's like me have lived there for years. Many of us come from awful pasts and do to them would be caged by humanity. Others simply enjoy the idea of a place where they won't have to hide while living a normal life."
Skydancer took a sip of her coffee before replying. Coffee was one of the few bad habits she had allowed herself as a teenager, when she really couldn't' afford any. Being a pique athlete required her not to put any poisons into her body, and that often even included such things as sugar and alcohol. "I don't have to hide what I am at The Mansion either. Everyone seems really nice there, although I've only met a few people. Its good that mutants have a place to go, to be safe and accepted."
Skydancer accepted the piece of cake, opting to eat with a more traditional fork. Watching Aura's power in action really was quite fascinating. "I'm realizing now that I need to learn to defend myself. My power is capable, but that can only take me so far. I'm going to learn martial arts. And I'm going to perform in the circus." all right, so maybe the circus wasn't quite related to anything else, but she felt absurdly proud of that fact and she couldn't' stop the sheepish grin from appearing on her face.

Skydancer lived for physica exertion and pushing her limits. That was the name of the game for her, to prove she was the best at what she did. Gymnastics was one thing, something to get her adrenaline going and prove her personal excellence, but this was something difference. The joy of running and swinging across rooftops of breakneck speeds was due, in part, to the fact that there were no safety nets here and she knew the slightest mistake could prove fatal. While she was fairly sure her tubes made falling to the ground less likely than her game partner, they also made it more likely that if she did fall, the consequenses would be severe.
The next rooftop was tricky because there was nothing to easily wrap her tubes around in order to pull her onto it. Instead she went up and around, spotting a nearby fire escape that led to a balcony. One tube around the fire escape followed by a second around the balcony, a couple of sings to gain momentum and she flung herself onto the roof that had been her intial goal, landing in picture perfect fashion. With an exilerated grin, she raced after Kyle.
"That's the Sanctuary there. See? Amazing that you missed it right?"
By the time Skydancer stopped, she was breathing heavily. Swinging on its own didn't tire her, but all the running in between certainly did. A glance at Kyle illustrated the curious fact that he wasn't out of breath; curious because there were few people more physically fit than Skydancer herself was. "I don't know how I could have missed that," She replied with a laugh. "It does kind of stick out, now that I see it. So, you must train a whole hell of a lot if you're not out of breath from that little adventure." Her grin returned because it was hard not to grin after that kind of fun.

Guilt was the first thing Skydancer felt upon seeing her hero take several bullets; guilt that someone had gotten hurt because of her. He had gotten hurt saving her, because she had done something stupid and gone to the wrong part of town and gotten herself attacked. It wasn't right that someone should get hurt because of her because she should, by now, be able to take care of herself.
"Oh my god, you're shot! We should get you to a hospital." Skydancer ran up to the vigilante, no longer paying attention to her assailant. Between his now mangled leg and the fact that he had been strangled unconscious, he wasn't likely to cause either of them a great deal of trouble for quite a while.
Skydancer didn't have anything more than basic first aid as far as medical experience went. In her years of training, she had seen enough broken and sprained limbs to be familair with those sorts of injuries and how to best treat them, but bullets were another matter entirely. One just didn't encounter bullets in the safety of an indoor training facility. The lack of blood, however, she took as a good sign. Probably. Wasn't it a good sign?
"Ow, thank god I have this vest on."
Vest on. Right. Well, that explained the lack of blood then. "Oh my god, I am so so sorry that this happened to you. I never should have gotten myself in trouble like that. I need to learn to take care of myself better, to defend myself better. What do you want me to do?" Hearing the feral tone in her injured hero's voice, Skydancer wisely kept her distance, just in case. Hopefully he would suggest going to the hospital, because that would be the smartest action to do now, all things considered.

"If that's the case, then I prefer the sort of knowledge that I can actually use and apply to my life directly. I don't have the patience otherwise." As much as anything else, that was why she had never completely excelled at school. She was bright enough to pick everything up, but so little of it actually seemed useful or practical that it just didn't hold her interest. Why would she want to sit in class when she could be out training her body instead?
Skydancer shrugged, although it was nice to have someone offer her sympathy for something that seemed just as ridiculous to her. "I don't think the actual Olympians really play much into it. I think I'd like to perform again though, even if not on the biggest stage. Its something that's inside me, that I'll probably never be rid of." She had tried to explain it before without a lot of success and she wasn't sure she could explain it much better now.
"I would love to train with you," Skydancer replied, elated. Maybe Koga could understand her motivation; in a strange way he seemed to have a simalar drive, though towards slightly different ends. "I'm no wall climbing lizard girl, but I think I could keep up." She offered a sheepish grin.
"I've got a room but no roommate currently." Maybe she was just lucky that way, although she had a feeling that would change sooner or later. "Does the Mansion offer college courses? I guess if I'm going to accept the fact that I have a future I should actually start considering what that future might be."

The future was something that Skydancer had been thinking a lot about recently. It was something she had only recently allowed herself to accept was a possibility at all. Being a visible mutant wasn't the end of the world, and in fact it could be the beginning of a whole new world. One dream ending meant that another had room to begin because there could be no new beginnings without there first being an ending. Well, at least that was true in her life, though perhaps not in the lives of all others. She knew she was an obsessive sort and when she set her mind towards something, well, she was rather one tracked about it.
Skydancer found herself sitting on a plush couch in front of a large TV inside The Mansion. The TV was currently on, although she wasn't paying it the least bit of attention. There had been a pair of teenagers in there who had been watching it and had, of course, left without first turning it off. Absorbed in what she was currently doing, Skydancer barely even noticed and, once she did, didn't feel up to the effort of actually getting up to turn it off. It wasn't bothering her any and there was no one else there for it to bother, so it really wasn't doing anyone any harm.
In her hands was a book titled "The Fantastic and Unbelievable History of the American Circus". Skydancer had only just begun her training but even so early on, she knew it was the right choice. There, she could be herself, perform in front of an audience and put her mutation, purple skin and all, to good use. She was nearly half way through the book and had been at it for the last couple of hours. Knowing the history of what she was getting herself involved in was important if she was to gain the proper context and the proper respect for her new profession.

Skydancer was officially lost. Again. It was becoming a depressingly regular occurance for her. There was just something about the massive city of New York that disoriented her to the point of not knowing left from right, up from down. Even scaling to a nearby rooftop didn't seem to help matters much as one busy New York street looked much like another. Then there was the problem of not many people wanted to help out the purple girl, so there she was wandering and confused.
Skydancer had been looking for a little costume store one of her circus trainers had told her about so she'd have something flashy to wear for her first performance, although that was still a ways away. Somehow, however, she had found herself near the docks which was in the complete opposite direction from where she wanted to go. How that had happened, she had no idea. How she planned to get back to The Mansion or to the store that had been her initial goal, she also had no idea.
Sighing despondently, Skydancer made her way towards a bride spanning a large body of water. She wasn't the greatest swimmer in the world, but she had always liked bridges. It was the height, more than anything. On this particular bridge, in an area that was strangely much quieter than the surrounding areas, she saw a strange sight. Ahead of her she saw two men crossing the bridge, one of them about 20 feet ahead of the other. At first nothing seemed unusual about that. As the Skydancer got closer, however, the closer man began to glow and pulsate. That's when the strange glowing marbles (or at least that's what they looked like to her) of all different colours began shooting from his body in every random direction and even from that distance, Skydancer could see the look of panic on his face.
"Look out!" Skydancer yelled, as she began running in the direction of the bridge. Some mutant had clearly lost control of their powers and it was going to be up to her to stop him from doing any real damage. How she planned to do that and even whether or not the glowing marbles were actually dangerous, she didn't know.

It didn't take the man long to realize just how much trouble he was in. Once the vigilante charged, the only thing he could think to do was to empty the clip of his gun into his direction. Trying to dodge, or better yet running, might have been the smarter option, but his M deprived brain just wasn't thinking so well. Maybe if he had some M then he might have been able to think out a strategy. For that matter, if he had some M he'd be able to wreath his body in caustic purple smoke and dissolve the would be hero's flesh from his bones. Getting some M just wasn't an option, unfortunately for him.
Skydancer watched and, in her eyes, everything turned to slow motion. She saw the bullets the addict emptied from his little handgun go racing towards her hero. She then saw her hero swing his bat into the leg of her attacker and her attacker fall to the ground, clutching his leg and screaming. Despite being threatened with a gun, such agony in his voice made her feel sorry for him. It wasn't entirely his fault that he had gotten hooked on M, although she didn't feel so sorry for him that she did anything to stop the situation. After all, he had still threatened her life.
The agonized screaming, however, wasn't' something Skydancer could easily deal with and now that the gun was no longer in play, she went into action herself. Running forward, a single purple tube burst from her wrist and wrapped itself around his neck. She applied just enough pressure to knock her attacker out but not enough to break his neck or, worse yet, kill him. Once he was silent, she turned to her hero. "Thank you so much. You have my gratitude."

Skydancer wasn't at all certain that exciting was the right word to describe her. Lately she had gotten into more than her share of exciting and dangerous experienes, but that had more to do with the fact that she was a purple mutant than it did anything to do with her personally. "I think you must be mistaken. I'm hardly exciting, though I see where you might have gotten that impression, given how we've met before." She offered a sheepish and apologetic smile.
Taking a sip of her own coffee, Skydancer reflected upon her life over the course of the last month. How she had come to be in the position she was currently in still seemed more like a dream than a reality. Only a few weeks ago she was living on the streets and a few months before that she had still been safe and warm at home with her parents and her siblings. Now look at her; she had no idea where she'd be in another few months.
Before Skydancer had been placed in violent situations herself, she would have stated that violence was universally bad, but now she wasn't so sure. Aura had saved her, after all, and so in a strange way she actually respected the way in which she was willing to utilize her violent skills. "I'm still not sure what I think of all this. This isn't what I wanted out of life, I was supposed to be an Olympic athlete. But more and more I see the reality is that I'm a part of this whether I want to be or not and, that being the case, I want to ensure that I make the right choices and take the right steps. I won't be taken advantage of by anyone."

Sometimes Skydancer wanted to hide what she was and blend in with the humans around her and sometimes she didn't. There had been a time, not so long ago, when she wanted to always blend in and eliminate her purple skin entirely. Some positive encounters with a couple other visible mutants, however, had changed her opinions. That and the fact that she had recently applied to work at a circus, a place where her unusual appearance was actually like to work in her favour rather than against her. Confidence was the thing she had been lacking in recent years, ever since she had changed, and confidence was the thing she was finally starting to win back.
Skydancer had spent the last several hours at the circus training facilities and now all she wanted to do was perch herself on a nice tree and read a book. Now that's what being a mutant was all about. What good were super powers if you couldn't use them for your own comfort and amusement, after all? It was the little things that really made life living sometimes and she intended to fully embrace those things.
Being a beautiful sunny day, Skydancer decided that, for once, she was going to go out into the world in all her mutant glory and simply ignore every single stare she received, which is exactly what she did. She still put on her blond wig, something she had become rather fond of, but opted against her usual long jacket. It was simply too nice for that. She put her book in her pocket and made her way to central park, where she proceeded to scope out a sufficiently large tree. Once found, she waited for a quiet moment and then allowed to tubes to pierce her skin from her shoulders. Up the tubes went, curling around a nice sturdy branch and up she went after them, the tubes easily supporting her weight until she was secure on her perch.
Once in the tree, Skydancer took out her book and began reading, happier than she had been in a long while. She wasn't certain how long had gone by before she felt a tickling sensation on one of her hands. A small scream and a startled jump and the little furred critter complete with bushy tail, fell from from the tree and onto the table of the pizza parlor a dozen feet below her. Twitching its little squirrelly nose, it stared with little squirrelly eyes at the brown haired man peacefully eating his pizza at the table.

"I'm pretty smart but I never really got into the pursuit of knowledge much. I didn't have the time, really, because of my training." There were many things she had never had the time for growing up, because of her training. In a way, she had lost her childhood to her hours upon hours spent in the gym practicing. Those were the sacrifices one had to make in order to become the best, however, so she had never really regretted them. Until, that is, she had come to a place in her life in which all her training was for nothing because she could no longer ever hope to become an Olympic athlete. "But I think its an admirable thing to pursue."
At the phrase martial arts, Skydancer's ears perked up. Now that wasn't something she had thought about before, but given the more dangerous turn her life had recently taken, perhaps it was something she should think about. "I can't compete in the Olympics because of unfair advantages an all that." She shrugged as if it didn't bother her, although that fact still stung. "How would they be able to test what, exactly a mutant could do to determine if competing was fair or not? They don't really have a way aside from taking their word for it so, instead, they just ban us from competing. Its pretty unfair." It was downright discriminatory but there wasn't much she could do about it. "I probably wouldn't mind learning some martial arts though. You know, just in case. Because the life of a mutant can sometimes be dangerous." As she was coming to learn first hand.
"I haven't even though about the future," Skydance replied. She adjusted her grip, pulling up to a more comfortable branch. "There hasn't really been the time; I was mainly just concerned with survival." She stared out into space as she spoke. "I guess a family might be possible though, right? I mean, if I were to find the right person, of course." It was a pleasant thought that gave her a strange sort of hope.

Hannah Montana? Devyn took the time to look back at dress girl and give her the best disdainful look she could muster. "Don't you know Hannah Montana isn't real?" Some children were just so stupid it was a wonder they could do anything, really. Next she would start talking about going to meet Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. Really, how was it possible to be so ignorant of the world? She turned back to Gina and rolled her eyes. At least her new mutant friend was smart, surely she didn't believe in fairy tales. And dress girl had the gall to call them nutty? Perhaps she really ought to take a look at herself first, before she started judging everyone else.
"G'day guys, any one of ya know where we are? I'm right lost, and could use some brekkie mate."
The voice of the newcomer made Devyn turn around one more time. Her plan to walk away and investigate their situation really wasn't happening very swiftly, now was it. And the new boy, also with a sword she noticed, sure did talk funny. Of course, she was used to some of the trainers and athletes that came to her competitions talking with accents as well, but this wasn't one she was familiar with.
"What's a Sheila?" It seemed like a good question to ask, as Devyn turned to take another glance at stupid dress girl. "And I'm Devyn." What was with all the guys having swords anyway? Whoever their kidnappers were, it didn't seem very smart for them to leave some of their kidnappeees with swords.
"Kids who want to find their parents are going this way. Kids who want to go to Montana are with Dressy. I'm... Calley. I'm Calley."
Devyn wasn't entirely sure that she wanted a boy who obviously didn't appreciate mutants, but given the situation she didn't think she could afford to be picky. "Ya, those trying to find your parents, come with me. Those trying to find imaginary people, go with her." She pointed towards dress girl and spoke in her best authoritative voice.
“They kidnapped Hannah Montana?! Why would someone do something like that?”
OK, so maybe her new mutant friend wasn't quite as smart as she had first given her credit for. She glared at her, hoping her eyes alone would shock her out of her idiotic Hannah Montana belief. "Forget Hannah Montana, we've got a mission ahead of us." She turned back around and beckoned Gina and whoever else was willing, to follow her. Even if she was a little slow, Gina was still a mutant and mutants should stick together.
