The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gwen was so deeply involved in her book she hadn’t registered anyone was coming. That was really the main problem with living here. She knew she was safe even if she was found out. These people wouldn’t’ hurt her. The worst they would do is throw her out on her ass and that wasn’t so bad. She had been thrown out of places before. It was no big deal really. So she tended to get more invested in things then she normally would. Before she had been like a sleeping cat with one eye always open. One eye looking out for that big bad come to get her. She was paranoid it was for sure, but there was something about this place that stopped that. She found herself about to relax.
This is probably why she was almost dead to the world and when the knock came from the door she just about jumped 5 feet in the air. She attempted to jump up to stand but instead she just managed to hit her head on the top bunk. ”!@#$”[/b] The words that came out of her mouth were not even close to lady like. Growing up on the street you learn all kinds of terrible language.
Gwen rubbed her forehead not even thinking about what would happen if the person on the other side of that door had heard her and walked into this room. She was sitting on Jude’s bed in her underwear with more than one piece of her clothing on the ground. There were all kinds of conclusions that someone could come to.

She relaxed slightly looking at him in confusion. He kept saying this wasn’t really and maybe he was crazier than her and really thought that, but then how did he hear the buzzing. The buzzing was in her own mind. Gwen knew that no one could hear it. It was the sound of a million mutants around her. A million voices in the back of her head wanting to be heard. To be heard by her and no one else.
Her forehead furrowed as she looked over to him just staring for a minute before the voice came out again calling her name. They always called her Gweny. It was their pet name for her. It was the name they gave her to make them seem nicer. As if the people that kept you captive with the intent of using you for personal gain of some kind could be nice. She was a means to an end to them and nothing more. She was a golden goose if you will.
The tense that was in her shoulders returned in an instant she however didn’t’ move. The fear was back and the confusion was gone and she didn’t move. She should have grabbed the boy by the hand and dragged him off to his fate. He had told her to. She however couldn’t bring herself to do it. How could she bring anyone to them? She was older now and tougher yet they still made her melt to nothing. They knew things. They knew the weaknesses that she denied she had. They knew exactly what to say and do to make her fall apart.
She shied away as the boy handed her the handkerchief. She slowly reached out and took it whipping it across her face to remove the blood. It whipped away as if it was still wet removing all too easy. She however didn’t take her eyes off of the boy. As he moved to provoke them her eyes widened. He shouldn’t be doing that. He shouldn’t be calling for them like that. He really did believe that this was a dream.
As if on cue a burly man with a sadistic smile came walking through a door behind her. He pushed her out of the way slamming her against the wall. She went crashing to the floor but didn’t feel pain. It didn’t hurt. Why didn’t’ it hurt? She thought in her mind that this hurting but yet didn’t’ feel the familiar pain.
The man walked towards the boy his smiling growing at the site of him. “You will do nicely.” Gwen looked around her for something. Anything she could grab to help the boy. As she looked to her left there was a seemingly broken chair. Had that been there before? She reached for it. She had to do something. It seemed to be just out of her reach. She couldn’t’ seem to get to it no matter how close she got. She could hear the man coming upon the boy. She reached stretching her fingers and hoping she would be in time.

Yes having a warm bed to sleep in on a regular basis was nice and all but the one thing that Gwen had to say she liked best about living with Jude and having a real place to stay on a nightly basis was the shower. Gwen used to have to go days without showering because she just couldn’t afford one. She did what she could to get by and all and that was great. It however was only just that. It was enough to get by. She didn’t really require a shower every day. It was nice to have one but it was kind of a luxury. So living with Jude gave her that luxury. Sure she had to wait till he was in class to use it so she could walk around the room with as little clothing as possible. She would rather not show the teenage boy the more intimate parts of her even if he may have already seen them by some kind of accident or another. Though that had her convinced he was afraid of her despite everything. Whatever.
Gwen rubbed the water of her body and wrapped her long brown hair in the towel on top of her head. She had washed some clothing in the sink just for such an occasion. The occasion being she wanted to take a shower and wear clean clothes after she did. She should have however checked to make sure said clothes were actually dry. Thankfully her bra was and her panties were like nothing fabric wise so they had been dry before she even got into the shower. Her jeans and shirt however were something else entirely. Neither one was completely dry and conserving Gwen had nowhere to be she was going to say she didn’t’ care and just move on. She would get dressed when her clothes were dry. All the important parts were covered.
She grabbed her tattered copy of A Brief History of Time and started reading. Even if she didn’t finish and or really go to school since she was like 10 didn’t mean she didn’t like to read and learn. Thanks to the New York Public Library and cold New York winters she had taught herself quite a lot. She actually kind of liked math and science. If things had been different she may have done something with them. She rather liked genetics and the like. Or theoretical physics. That however was a pipe dream. You live with the cards live dealt you and that was that. Gwen moved to lounge on Jude’s bed. She slept on the top and didn’t feel like climbing. What Jude didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. Flipping to the last page she was on she started reading oblivious to what was about to happen and who was about to find her.

What did he mean they were in a dream? She knew what was happening. She could feel the pain of her powers. She could hear that familiar buzzing murmur in the back of her mind. He brought them back to her. He helped them find her. Maybe he even lead them here on purpose. Gwen wished she had a way to fight back. Wished she was a different kind of mutant or not a mutant at all. Then maybe her life would be different. Then maybe she could be happy for once instead of whatever this was.
“Don’t’ listen to him Gweny. He is trying to trick you so you won’t bring him to us. We need him Gweny. We need him so we can keep going on. We need him to keep you safe.”
She wanted to believe the boy. She wanted this not to be real. She wanted to be able to push this all away and go back to that happy place where her powers were gone and she was alone and happy and safe. She wanted to be happy and safe.
The more Gwen fought the voices the louder they got almost drowning out the unwanted visitor to her dream. He said he was a wanderer of dreams. Gwen had never heard of such a power but that didn’t mean it didn’t exist. Why did they want him?
She pushed herself up shaking and turned to the boy. There was blood covering her hands and smeared across her face. Her voice came out as a quiet whisper only loud enough for them to hear. ”I’m sorry. I don’t want to do this but they make me. If I don’t do it they will… Let’s just say there are worse things then death. Just please come with me. Don’t fight. I’m a mutant too. I promise they will get what they want from you and then let you go. They always let them go.” Her eyes were pleading with the boy to do as she asked. Even if this was a dream she couldn’t risk it. She couldn’t live for days without food or whatever punishment they would come up with this time. She had thought she was free of this. She was apparently wrong.

Gwen barely registered what was happening. The light that flooded in through the windows turned to a shade of gray and the warm light that filled the room turned cold around them. The bright colors seemed to dull and the life that was once there faded away to nothing. Gwen let out a loud cry as she keeled over a sharp pain shooting through her head and a buzzing filled the air around the girl and her mental intruder.
She looked up at him with tears of pain in her eyes. Her face showed a mixture of anger and fear as her eyes pierced the Iranian boy before her. ”You’re a mutant. You’re doing this to me.” A drip of blood started to come from the girl’s nose. Her hand rose quickly to rub it as more started to fall from both nostrils. She recoiled looking at her hands in terror. What was happening? Was this the thing she feared? Was a mutant finally going to kill her?
She pushed up in an attempt to get away from him trying to move or run but as she turned the room around them changed. She was in a dark room with dirty old wallpaper and a metal framed bed like one they would give an inmate in a mental institution. A voice could be heard over the silence. “Gweeeennyyyyyy.” Gwen gasped at the familiar sound. “Gweny be a dear and bring us the mutant. If you bring us the mutant we’ll make it stop. We’ll make all the pain go away.”
From Gwen came a shaky gasp of air. ”No.” She whispered her word standing there frozen in terror.

When it came to her dreams things were kind of hit or miss for Gwen. She could have the loveliest of dreams in which things were so very very different or she could have the most horrible in which she woke up in a hot sweat screaming. It depended. Today thankfully was a good dream. A good happy dream. She was in a place where she could be what she wished she had gotten the chance to be. She had a family who actually gave a shit about her and there was no ringing in her ears or pain in her head. She couldn’t feel them and for once her mind was her own.
That had to be the thing that she dreamed of the most out of all things. She just wanted to have her mind to herself. IF she wasn’t a mutant. If she didn’t have these powers she would be able to do anything. She wouldn’t’ have to worry about being hunted or hated. She could live a normal life with a normal job and a normal family. And maybe just maybe her grandparents would want her. She had hoped so much that they would and was not surprised when they didn’t. She didn’t’ really understand why it was so hard to like her. Well other than the fact that it had made her bitter over the years. She was bitter and hateful and sarcastic. It happened when you spent most of your life angry at the world.
In tonight’s dream she was in the mansion wandering around as if she wasn’t a fugitive. The place was warm and comfortable. It was the same and yet different. Very different. It was the kind of place that Gwen well dreamed of. It was like a very large security blanket making her feel better. Though at the sound of an unfamiliar voice Gwen spun around and looked at him with wide eyes as a shot of pain shook the world around her. Everything seemed to shift and crack in a way she had never seen. She looked around in fear before her eyes fell back on the man in front of her. ”What did you do?” This was her dream and it was shifting into a nightmare. She looked at the main in fear as things seemed to start to settle around her as they stood staring at eachother.

Gwen laid on the lawn chair out like a light. She was dead asleep. She had spent the second half of the bus ride back wide awake. Once she had finally made it over the fence and into the yard she got to the lawn chairs and passed out. She couldn’t even bother to climb up the trellis to an open window so she could sneak into the room she ‘shared’ with Jude. No, instead she sat down for a rest and quickly passed out before she had time to register it was happening. Now she was on her stomach quietly snoring with her arm hanging over the side of the chair. She had been so careful over the past year to keep Jude out of trouble. And now because of one lousy choice she was going to have their carefully built house of cards come toppling down.
Why had she done it? If she had never hoped a bus cross country to San Fran she wouldn’t be in this situation she was in now. In truth she kind of wished she hadn’t. This little misstep was exactly the kind of thing that had been happening to her for the last month. This was why Gwen didn’t let people in. This was why she didn’t live a normal life. When she lived a normal life things went wrong. When she tried to be normal she ended up in one mishap after another. She had been so careful sneaking onto that bus and then only to be caught and kicked off half way there. Then she had had to hitchhike the rest of the way to Cali. Once there she had no idea where she was going. It took her weeks to find her grandparents and then figure out a way into their house. But once she was inside is when things really went wrong. They wanted her to go away so badly they had bought her a plane ticket so she could go back to New York City where they never had to see her again. Some family they were. Maybe if she was lucky she could use their want to not see her to her advantage. But only time would tell.
Though, as she slept now none of that was running through her head. Instead she was thinking of what life could be like. What this safe place she was in could do for her. She was dreaming of something better. A world where she wasn’t hunted and didn’t need to hide. Oh if only such a world could exist.

Gwen most certainly did not eat fast. She savored every bite of food as she put it in her mouth. It had been so long since she ate real food. It was glorious. Not to mention unknowingly Jude had given her something that actually made her happy.
She sat in silence listening to the sounds of Jude showering and what was going on in the hall. This place was so quiet. It was odd to not hear the sounds of the city when you were on the island of Manhattan. Though she never really did come this far north and stay here.
She couldn’t help but feel her eyes drooping. She hadn’t realized until just this moment just how tired she was. She had been running on adrenalin for days now. She had been so worried about the next thing that was coming for her. Some how though. Being here behind these tall walls in this secure building full of people like her it was far less scary worrying about people coming for her and people like her.
She climbed up into the bed and curled up in a ball. She didn’t even get to put a blanket over herself as the second her head hit the pillow she was out. She was into one of the best sleeps she was going to have in a year. One of the best and the longest. She would be out for over a day skipping the next day all together.

“Wow you are presumptuous. You do know that there is such a thing as more then one approach? Had it occurred to you that maybe there is more to my method then just walking up to people at random and attempting this.” Gwen was pissed. This guy was such a jerk. He had no clue about her and said sorry but obviously didn’t mean it as he just kind of kept going.
“Listen. I don’t like mugging people. I do it when I have to but I don’t’ like it. I don’t like to steal. Apparently you do. But I’m not you. I once again have got along fine before you. I understand the basic principle of people is different. I am not an idiot thanks.”
Gwen turned on her heels and started marching her way out of the ally. This was really seriously not worth her time. She didn’t want to even bother no matter how much she could use a few dollars.

Gwen really honestly could care less how much Jude was seeing of her and how it made him feel. She really wasn’t bothered by the idea of him seeing her in her underwear that covered her. It was no less than if she was wearing t-shirt over a bathing suit. The worlds need to make it weird to be seen in one’s underwear had never really made sense to the girl because of things like bikinis. Seriously they were the same damn thing.
“Hey Jude.” She sang it. It was silly and childish but she enjoyed The Beatles and loved that song. So she was going to sing his name as such all the while smirking to herself. It was all rather fun in her opinion.
She smiled catching the basketball short. “Perfect.” They were exactly what she had been looking for by riffling through his drawers. Well that and anything else interesting she could find. Once again it is important to know that she didn’t’ really understand boundaries. She had been on her own on the streets for literally years. She had never really had the time in her short life to learn to understand, nor did she really care to learn to understand, social graces and decorum.
Gwen slipped on the shorts that fell to just below her knee thanks to the fact that they were hanging rather low on her very slender hips. Jude may have been small for a boy his age but Gwen was still really tiny despite being taller. The whole not really eating thing will do that too you. She was a bit skinnier then usual after all.
“Starving.” Literally. She turned and walked over to were the food was looking at the selection. For once in a long time Gwen smiled looking at the simple grilled cheese. She remembered a time when she was younger and such a thing had brought her comfort. She used to love the stuff. She picked it up and pulled up a chair sitting down with the plate trying to make as little mess as possible.

As soon as she heard the door close behind Jude she leaned onto the counter for support. From the second she had set foot within the radius of the school hear head had been pounding. The pain was sharper and more intence then usual. She was trying very very hard to not let it get to her but it wasn’t easy.
She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to try and clear her mind. Not that doing that ever really helped but it was better then doing nothing.
As she climbed into the shower and the warm water came over her there was a calm that seemed ot come with it. She let herself get lost in it. This was the first shower she had taken in weeks and the first one she had realized was helping with her brain problem in years. This was not going to be easy. It was going ot be one of the hardest things she has ever had to do but it was a good idea.
She took her sweet time in the shower wanting to make sure that every piece of grime and dirt was removed before getting out. Though once she got out she was presented wiith a different problem. She had just taken a lot of time to clean herself off and now she was gong to have to put back on all of those dirty clothes.
Wrapping her towel around he body she bit her lip and pushed open the door relieved Jude wasn’t there. She was going to have to live with her dirty underwear sadly but maybe just maybe Jude had something she could wear. He was a little guy but he had to own something right.
As she opened the door it was as if a great light came out at her and she hit the motherload. Jude not only had clothes fit for a kid his size, but some of the stuff she assumed he wore when he was an adult. This was going to work just fine.
She pulled on her underwear and threw a tee-shirt from Jude’s closet over the rest of her. She was a little tiny girl but the shirt was still only long enough to come down to her hips. She was going to need to cover her legs in some way. Her jeans were likely the dirtiest part of her clothes and should probably have been burned instead of just thrown away. She couldn’t put those back on.
Gwen didn’t really know what proper manners were anymore so without a second thought she started riffling through Jude’s drawers.

Gwen raised an eyebrow at him trying to tell her how to be inconspicuous. She had made an art of the practice and it was acutally kind of funny that this silly little French boy though he could teach her a few things.
She pulled her red hood over her head and shoved her hands in her pockets. Tilting her head down she walked with Jude.
“A hot tub?” She most certainly did not believe him. He didn’t look like he could steal a loaf of bread if he were hungry let alone a limo.
Thouhg, she couldn’t help but shutter little at the thought of the riots. That had been a really scary time for her and the other homeless. She had almost died twice and she really didn’t want to go back or think about it.
Gwen really couldn’t help herself as they walked inside. She looked up making sure that the hood was still shadowing her face. She had never set foot in such a beautiful place before. Yeah it wasn’t anything grand but it had this nice homy feel to it. It was like they had gone out of their way to make these kids know that someone was there.
As they passed student after student she made sure to dip her head and act like she belonged. She even pretended to chuckle at Judes ridiculous story. Who did he really think he was fooling with this?
Once they were in the room however she pulled down the hood to get a real good look at the place. There were two beds, two desks, two everything. It was a little messy but not so bad. More like he hadn’t picked it up in a little bit.
She moved further into the room noting the serious lack of stuff on the other side and taking a second to chuckle at the few things in the room that showed he was a boy. Like a rather large poster of a girl in nothing but her bikini.
”Do you mind if I shower first?” Without really giving him any time to answer she started taking off her layers leaving them on the floor till she was in nothing but her undergarments and retreating into the bathroom.

Gwen narrowed her eyes at the small boy. Maybe he was right and she would be fine but she had truly always been too afraid to test it. She would probably have always been safer amoung her own kind if she really wanted to push past her fear. She however dind’t want to risk her brain litteraly exploding.
For Gwen the scariest thing aside from being found by those she was running away from was dieing because of what they were chasing her for. Her powers had a scary side effect and going into a place like that was only going to exasperate it.
However, Jude was right in thinking it was the safest place for her. Of everywhere in the city this is the last place anyone would look for someone like her. She didn’t like to stay in one place for long and she hated being around mutants. Who would think she would go and hide in mutant academy?
She paused for a second looking at the building before turning to look Jude in the eye. “Lead the way.” At the very least she could get a shower and a meal out of it and leave.
