The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The waitress came up with drinks as well as, thank god for it, aspirin. Thankfully the wordsmith took the medication from her and nodded his gratitude for her. She certainly was a heaven sent. Stepping back, he sighed happily as he cracked open the bottle and pulled out one or five pills and sighed as he popped a couple into his mouth and sipped at his glass of water. He sighed as he swallowed the medicine, thankful to have it. He hoped it would kick in quickly.
Akshay turned as he lowered his head, trying to will the headache away. He really did not want to say anything else, for fear of making the words appear. But his powers were still going to plague him. As Aedus, his girl, and the teen spoke, he caught snippets of their conversation (only the nouns, actually,) as they literally fluttered out of their lips and floated into the space above their heads.
Thankfully they could not see them. Only Akshay could. If they could then he had no doubt in his head that they would probably be freaking out all over the place.
By the time that the pounding in Akshay’s head eased up, he turned and realized that apparently there was talk about people joining in on their little fun…
>> “ my friends would love to be up here, one of them snuck there younger sister in, she’s seventeen, but I am guessing about as close as he is going to get in here otherwise.”
>> “Sure bring them up and tell them to put it on Aedus Teague’s tab.”
Akshay smirked. Whoever this Aedus Teague guy was, he really knew how to party. Maybe he just met his new best friend.
“The more the merrier,” Akshay agreed with a smirk. “It is the New Year after all!”

October 2011 – Comic-Con
The center was bustling with activity. People were stuffed into every corner of the establishment, booths were erected with care, and there was a clamor of excitable noise that had grown into a deafening buzz. At every booth there was a cornucopia for the eyes of nerds everywhere: comic books, toys, collectables, actors, actresses, artists, writers, everything a nerd’s heart could possibly desire was here and ready to be viewed. But the best part, the absolutely best part of this place…were the number of costumes. It was truly a place where one could let their freak flag fly.
Superheroes, villains, sci-fi heroes, monsters, aliens, supernatural, anime characters of all kinds wandered the halls of this place. Some costumes were elaborate, some there simple, some were just absolutely off the wall, but there was no judging here. Here…a fan could truly be a fan!
One of these true fans went by the name of Akshay Malik.
Having spent the first day of Comi-Con dressed in normal attire and signing copies of his own indie-print comic, he was relieved that he would have this second day to himself. Today he would get to be decked out as one of his favorite characters…
Strutting through the aisles, dressed in his light colored tunic and black belt, his lightsaber bounced against his hip as he strolled on, his boots thumping against the smooth and tiled floor. He adjusted his blonde wig just in time to wink at a trio of Princess Leia’s, grinning wide but ultimately moving on. Now was not the time to attempt slip into “negotiations” with those women. At the moment he had far more important matters to attend to. There would be an auction today, but not just any auction.
He pulled out a flier that held the room number and the items for sale. The one that caught his eyes glared at him from off the paper: Own the actual toilet seat prop used for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s cave from Star Wars: A New Hope!!
“Squeeeeeeeeee!” Akshay giggled as she strolled along, looking at the flier. There was no way he was going to let ANYONE take that prize from him.
But as he strolled on, suddenly Akshay was stopped. Not by the Force, not by telekinesis, but…by the mound of flesh packed into a black costume. Akshay blinked as he looked up to see a VERY large man turn around to face him. Akshay backed away but still he could tell who this person was…only what they were dressed as…
“Why don’t you watch where you’re going Shr—“ the man in the costumed announced. But he paused when he got a good look. “Akshay?”
Instantly Akshay knew the voice. His eyes narrowed. “Hello…Newman.”
Darth Newman smirked underneath his mask as he suddenly reached up and flicked on a switch on his costume’s chest plate. Suddenly the sounds of Darth Vader’s heavy breathing filled the air around them them.
“So we meet again…Jedi…”
Akshay rolled his eyes. “Not now Newman.”
Newman Ledge was a fellow comic store worker, but he worked at League of Comics, a rival store that Akshay despised. They treated their workers so horribly. Akshay knew because he worked there. But Newman was such a brownnoser that he managed to work his way into a manager’s position. And he was even WORSE than the store owners. It was needless to say…Akshay did not like him.
“Oh,” Newman mocked as he turned his helmeted head down and peered at Akshay’s flier. “So…you think YOU’RE going to get away with the prize? Pathetic. I’ll have you know I’m prepared to outbid you…at any cost.”
Akshay narrowed his eyes as he folded his flier up and returned it to his pocket. “BRING IT, Newman! We’ll see who gets the throne!”
Newman flicked on his Darth Vader breathing noise apparatus again. “Oh yes…we will…”

>> "Mah friend back in Scootland read them alot. Ah 'ave no issues learnin' if ye'll teach meh!"
That’s good! Akshy thought. At least he would not be dealing with a COMPLETE blank slate. The last time that a girl like her had wandered in here looking for a job, she had completely misjudged the clientele and work. She complained about the nerds asking her question, about the geeks asking her if she would like to cos-play sometime, and a bunch of other nonsense that she simply could not handle because she came into this job with the wrong attitude.
She came into the comic shop to just be a worker; a worker who did not need to know anything about the product she was boxing, cleaning, and selling. That was a big mistake. And though the pretty Scottish girl here knew nothing about the product, she was at least willing to learn. That would go a long way.
>> "It's ay pleasure, Akshay."
“Oh, no,” he beamed. “The pleasure is ALL mine.”
In reality Akshay loved to meet new people and Rebecca certainly was a nice one. She was pretty, had a warm personality, and she indeed seemed eager for the job. He really had no problem hiring her on the spot but he would need to run it through his boss first. They were looking someone to fill in a vacant position but he did not know how the boss man would feel about the young strawberry blonde. Girls rarely lasted in this type of job unless they were true fans, and those types of girls were easy to spot.
And it was obvious that Rebecca did not fit that category. But Akshay saw something in her mismatched eyes. He definitely had a feeling that she could do it.
>> “Sae wha' will Ah be doing here? Cleanin? Sortin? Sellin?”
He nodded.
“A little bit of everything. Help unload shipments every Tuesday, prepare them for Wednesdays, make sure the shop looks neat and tidy, kick out the riff-raff, selling,” he shrugged his shoulders. “Pretty basic stuff. BUT, you should probably brush up on your comic knowledge since sometimes we get the real rabid fans that like to grill the cashiers. But I can help bring you up to speed.” He grinned. “Also, I do hope you’re not afraid to wear a costume every now and then…”
And there was that smile, a smile that didn’t reveal if he was joking or telling the truth. Heh, Rebecca would just have to wait and find out...

>> "Tae be honest, Ah dornt know much aboot comics, but Ah'd be willing tae learn! An' Ah'd work really hard!"
“Good!” he announced boisterously. “We need hard workers around here, especially thoughts that can be molded in true, comic loving machines!”
Akshay was liking this idea more and more. The girl was adorable, she was willing to learn about comics, and she really wanted the job which meant that she must have had a strong work ethic. Not only would she make a valuable asset to the shop in labor, but her pretty looks were sure to drawn in a crowd. After all, how many comic nerds actually get to SEE real live girl’s up close? Especially ones as pretty as this accented little lass?
No, this could definitely serve to their benefit. And even though she was easy on the eyes, and Akshay was indeed a flirter, she had yet to slap him! So that was always a plus! Besides, Akshay was harmless. Flirtation was good for ego, he always said.
He handed the application over, found his favorite Lightsaber Pen and slipped that over as well so she had something to fill out the application with.
>> "Ah'm Rebecca, by th' way!"
He grinned as he gently took her hand, put on his best searing romantic look, and gazed at her.
“Enchanté, mademoiselle,” he beamed. He then finally turned her hand loose and gave a comically extravagant bow in her direction. “My name is Akshay Malik and I am at your service.” He straightened up and nodded to the application. “If you fill that out, we can get this ball rollin’!”

>> "Ack, no, he's nae mah boyfriend! Um, nae 'at Aedus isnae good looking, but it's just-- well, he's a really nice man."
>> “Nope, not the boyfriend, just an acquaintance actually.”
Oooooh, buuuuuuuuurn… Akshay thought to himself as he glanced across at Aedus who looked to have just the tiniest, smallest glimmer of defeat. Poor guy. Burned and by such a pretty girl with an adorable accent, no less! Double ouch.
But Akshay stood there, tilting his head a little as he looked between the pair of them. They were just friends, huh? Well stranger things have happened. But he had to admit that it was nice to see Aedus again! After their meeting during the New Year’s party, he wondered if he would ever run into that crazy-pretending-to-be-famous life saver again! Apparently he got his answer! And, just like last time, he had an extremely adorable gal on his arm. Though she was not nearly as all over him as the last one.
Hmm…he’d have to ask about that.
>> "Ah am here tae see if ye micht be hirin? If nae, that's fine tae..."
Ears perked. A JOB applicant?! Immediately his wheels started to turn in his head as he straightened up a bit, and arched a brow looking at her, taking on a faux-stern, general-in-an-army-like face.
“SO! You think you can work in a comic shop, do ya?” he asked, channeling his inner General Patton as he paced in front of her pretty redhead. “I have to warn you that it will be the toughest, hardest, smelliest occupation you will EVER have the good fortune of being employed in!” He stood straight up, puffed out his chest, and pretended there was a riding crop tucked under his arm. He watched WAY too many war movies.
He blinked when he turned his attention on her. He was either terrifying her or making the poor thing crack up with laughter on the inside. Either option he was sure was true so he finally just took a more relaxed posture and grinned.
“I’m just playing with you! Besides, we definitely need some new people working in this place. Come on over to my ‘office’,” he grinned as he walked back towards the counter. He glanced at Aedus wandering about. “If you see anything you like, um, ’SIR’, don’t hesitate to ask!” he announced. He then slipped behind the counter and began to look through files. Finally he found a job application. Holding it off to the side, he shook off the dust and slipped it over to Rebecca. “So, I assume you have at least some general knowledge of comics, correct? Their small books with various drawn pictures that tell a narrative story…” He grinned in such a humorous way.

>> "Oh, You should know better than to challenge me Akshay, it never ends well."
Akshay say on his bike, revving the engine when he glanced back to see Emerald saunter over in a most dangerous way. He had to admit that he was a little awestruck by the vision that stalked up to him that he really had no idea how to keep his head on straight. The woman was extremely attractive, she was tough, and she even seemed to like him. That was the best part of all.
But apparently there was some spark in her eye the second that he mentioned the possibility of a race between the two of them. He meant it. He loved his ducati and he knew that he was good at riding it. He is sure that he could take her in any race, or at least he was sure. Now he was beginning to have second thoughts. Judging by the look on her face, the way that she carried herself, it was obvious that she had confidence in her skills to. Maybe she was more a challenge than he originally thought?
He would have to keep a careful eye on her.
He turned back around, a smile playing on his lips as he revved his engine once more. Once he felt her climb on, he began to tilt his bike so that he was ready to go. She wrapped her arms around his mid-section and gave him a playful squeeze, to which he squeak. Totally. Un. COOL!
>> "Besides, I've been known to play dirty when it comes to street races. Now come on, lets see what this baby can do."
A twinkle appeared in his eye as he nodded to her, a smile at the corners of his lips. He reached up and pulled his visor down. Though he could not tell, obviously since he was going to be riding this beast, from the side view, the pair of them did look pretty badass on the bike. Passer-bys would pause and gawk at them, wondering what trouble the dynamic duo would get into.
If only they knew Akshay smirked under his helmet.
Revving the engine one last time, checking that Emerald was secure, Akshay kicked up the kickstand and checked to make sure there was no traffic and rode out into the street. Normally Akshay would have played it far more safe but the young wordsmith knew how to let loose. Besides, Emerald seemed like the type of girl that valued a little bit a speed in her diet…so why not?
“Hold on tight,” he smirked.
With a small laugh on his lips, Akshay tore out into the street, aimed directly for their destination…

Akshay had tilted his head down to look at the young woman who was poking at him. She was a pretty young thing but she seemed just mildly confused as to why he was on the floor. Maybe that was why she was poking him? Trying to get him to stir to see if he was okay? On the other hand she did not see all that concerned about his person. If she was, she wouldn’t just be lying there, poking him.
But, as interesting as all this speculation was, Akshay could not just sit there with the young lady poking him. That would be odd, to say the least. That was why he spoke up.
>> "...Oh. Hi. How are you?"
Acknowledgement!
He tilted his head a bit as he looked at her face. Definitely a cute girl but this was a rather odd place to just be hanging out. Who would willingly choose to just lie about on the floor of such a nice establishment as this? Sure they kept their floors clean and nicely waxed but was that really enough to want to make someone just sprawl out on the ground and poking any passerbys? He wondered if the ceiling knew about people like her.
“I’m okay. Having a nice conversation with the ceiling. Yourself?” he responded. “Did you know that ceilings can talk?”

>> "Nah, I was going to make a play for myself and Veronica here, anyhow. I'm happy to have brought you along, not your fault that tiny blonde made us dizzy…I think he needs to get some bad Intel on his next outing from his good friend Akshay."
Akshay smirked. He glanced down at his costume, still feeling some slight effects from that blonde that had been sauntering around, so the gesture made him wobble. But he was still able to get a nice long look at his costume and he immediately vowed to have revenge. Jean was so going to pay for it, whether this mix up was intentional or a New Year’s joke. Either way, Akshay was going to get Jean back for this.
But as he looked up, noticing that some of his words had started to float away again, (at least they were not solidifying), he spied that his new friend Aedus had immediately taken notice of them. Especially of the word that he had brought up from down on the dance floor.
Akshay stared at that “GUYS” word as Aedus’ had poked and prodded and he had to smirk. It really was hard for some people to grasp that his powers could be so…odd.
>> "You should think about going into the sign making business, my family excels in mutant related business, throw some paint on these bad boys and you could have a great product at a low cost...if you want to you can give my brother a call and he could see you got started on solid ground."
Money off of his mutation? He wished…
“Awesome idea, really,” Akshay said with a nod. “Words only last at max…maybe…24 hours or so. So it would be a short lived venture,” he laughed.
>> “Can we get a ginger ale, and two coffees? Two coffees and, do you want anything Akshay?"
“Oh, um, just a water, I guess,” he said as he winced, feeling his head. “Maybe some asprin if that’s possible…”
>> "Anyone else see that...the floating stuffs?"
>> " I believe that is one of Akshay's talents."
Akshay had glanced down to the source of that first question. The kid on the floor looked to be coming out of the daze as well, but on top of that he just appeared to be a rather queasy state. Maybe he had been affected by that blonde a bit longer than he did because short of a headache, Akshay was fine. He shook his head as the kid continued to lie on the ground, with no signs of attempting to get up.
“Um, guy, are you going to be okay?” he asked with concern.

Ka-CHING! The song resounded!
Akshay beamed as he shifted into the next position of the dance step, just dancing his little heart out, being completely oblivious to the rest of the world around him. The wordsmith did so indeed love to dance and therefore he always wanted to fill his spare moments with it. Strutting, hip shaking, head bobbing, all of it only added to his enjoyment and made the young artist revel in the empty space of the comic store.
Or…at least his store USED to be empty. He would have gotten away with his dancing if it were not for those meddling kids!
In a particularly difficult looking spin, Akshay looked like he was going to nail it when suddenly a voice startled him from somewhere near the entrance of the store.
>> "Um, 'scuse meh sir, d-dae ye wark here?"
Akshay was immediately thrown off his spin and he stumbled briefly, losing his footing, and tumbling into a free standing pillar rack of comics. The shop worker was quick though, catching the comic holder before all of the merchandise could be shaken off. Breath held, he slowly pushed it back into place and called out over his shoulders as he fixed comics.
“Oh! Yes! One second!” he called out. It took a second but he finally managed to fix the comics. When he did he regained his composure and turned. “Welcome to One Comic to Rule Them All, how can I—“ he paused the second he spied the young redhead. “Heeeelllllllllllooooooo NURSE!”
He practically howled those words as he deftly switched of the music with the remote in his pocket and began to sliiiiiiiide towards the pretty girl with the pretty hair and the VERY pretty accent. But before he could get too close, he spotted the larger man that was standing behind her. At first Akshay paused in his tracks, terrified that he had hit on someone else’s girlfriend or something. If there was one rule that this dancing wordsmith always adhered to, it was to respect over people’s relationships.
But as he tried to choke out an apology he had to tilt his head because the man looked…SO familiar. Why though? He thought for a few seconds before the man’s face finally managed to dredge up a memory in the back of Akshay’s head.
New Years? His eyes widened in surprise and familiarity as he grinned at the man, Aedus if he remembered his name correctly and started to wave to him.
”HEY AE—“ he paused when he saw the frantic signaling from Aedus. Being well versed in sign language, Akshay was about to comment that he had no idea what Aedus was signing until he began to piece them together. Eye. No. Nose. Akshay…He…doesn’t…KNOW…me? His head tilted curiously as he quickly reworked his original exclamation. “Aeeee… good looking couple!” he beamed. “Ugh, how…can I help you?”

It was another slow day. The clientele at “One Comic to Rule Them All” seemed to dwindling but Akshay Malik did not seem to mind. Sometimes the best part of his days were the slow moments because the majority of the time the shop was filled with large, sweating, nervous, ill-smelling youngsters and mid-aged “men”. While Akshay identified himself with the nerds and geeks and dweebs, that did not mean he wanted to be constantly surrounded by them. Sometimes the smell of their mom-made bologna sandwiches mixed with their Axe bodyspray to cover up their lack of showers, could be a bit overpowering.
So, he decided to take advantage of the slow day. Sitting behind the counter, reading the latest issue of the Promise Avenger, he looked up at the empty shop. It did have some pretty damn good acoustics. It would be a shame to waste the same and not get any off his usual dance practice in.
After all, he did have plans to hit the “Hole in the Wall” club. He needed to always be at his best dancing shape.
Closing the issue of his comic, Akshay grabbed the remote for the store’s soundsystem, turned on his iPod and skipped through the tracks until he found the one that would serve him best for the space he had. A small grin crept over his face as he glanced at the title of the song before he stood, slipped out from behind his counter and stood in the middle of the large space of the deserted store.
A smart worker would have locked the door.
Hence the reason why Akshay didn’t.
Dressed in a simple pair of jeans, his Super Koala T-Shirt, and name tag, Akshay took a second or two to stretch and limber up. Once he felt that his muscles were loosened, the comic artist smirked (his back to the door), and hit “PLAY” on his remote before he shoved it into his pocket.
Head down, the song started with a rather deep beat that shook him down to his core as if filtered out through the speakers causing him to twitch his hips left and right. A smile on his face, eyes closed, Akshay slowly started his dance! A dance that one (or two) should never walk in on…

>> "Oh, probably…People generally all think I'm crazy already, though, so whatever."
He arched a brow. Who would dare called a ceiling crazy? Maybe if it was only of those fun houses and the ceiling had been painted with a variety of colors, swirls, and psychedelic patterns. But this ceiling made it sound like it was an everyday thing! How…unfortunate. He wondered if it were possible for a ceiling to have hurt feelings. If so…how did it express such things? Questions like these definitely needed answers though. And, so long as he was here, he might as well ask them.
Akshay opened his mouth, preparing for his inquiry, when suddenly he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Did this store had rats? Red rats, at that? He would have a stern word with the manager.
But then this thought was followed by the sensation of “poking” on his ribs. Were the rats now attempting to gnaw him to death? He blinked a couple times as he finally willed himself to sit up and remove himself from the ceiling’s attention and peered down.
A young woman was there, poking his side. His head tilted curiously.
“Hey,” was all he said as a confused greeting. He wondered what she was doing down here…

Akshay still had trouble standing up straight but his head was beginning to clear up a lot. He was thankful for that. The last thing that he wanted was to lose complete control of himself. With every passing second more and more of his senses were beginning to return but there was little he could do to make them return faster. He simply had to wait it out. In the meantime, that meant he could not speak. Which was difficult but if it would prevent any of his new friends from receiving a concussion or a broken toe, then so be it.
After a moment or two he finally steadied himself to keep from falling over and sighed. He was happy to have a break from the partying downstairs so he could regain himself some. And it looked as if he was in some rather safe company…
>> "You look like good pillows."
Except that guy. Akshay would have shaken his head but he feared the movement to topple him.
He turned his eyes back to the orange-eyed man as he began to inspect the word “GUYS” that he had caught earlier. He did seem to be rather fascinated with it but Akshay could not blame him. The majority of people who saw his power in action rarely knew HOW to react other than by being mystified. But, thankfully the man did not want to delve deeper into how he pulled off such a thing just yet.
>> “I’m Aedus Teague by the way, no one the bouncers should have actually known by the way.”
He smirked.
“A-Akshay…Malik,” he muttered, struggling to keep his control. “Guess I owe you then, huh?” he beamed. “You really didn’t need to do that.”
>> “So, Armor huh?”
He smirked again and shrugged his shoulders.
“Yeah, my best pal, Jean, told me it was a costume party. Last time I believe him.” he felt his concentration wane. He held back a few of the words but “COSTUME” and “TIME” began to form in the air between then. Another drunken wave and he stopped their formation. He felt like he was beginning to look rather silly.

Akshay stepped out of the shop and held the door open for Emerald to follow him outside. Once she did, he smirked a little as he stepped aside to let her past. When was the last time that he was on a real and actual date. Normally his “dates” are just him picking up a girl or two at the clubs that he normally inhabits but this was different. He rarely asked out women on the fly, especially not when he was simply out drawing, and ESpecially not when they were as attractive as her.
This was going to be just as new a territory for him as Emerald was acting it was. He really hoped he did not trip over his own words or say or do anything foolish.
Outside, he turned to lead Emerald to his motorcycle when he glanced back at her comment.
>> "Nice bike you have there, even if it is not as cool as my Green Machine over there,"
He arched a brow as he paused, stepped back, and watched her retrieve a helmet from another motorcycle that was off to the side. The green beast certainly was a beauty to behold and the simple fact that it was Emerald’s only made him grin all the wider. The more he learned about her, the more he was glad he actually did ask her out.
He nodded respectfully to her bike.
“Impressive,” he said with a smirk. “But don’t knock the ducati,” he beamed as he walked up to his own silver motorcycle and patted it’s side. “Otherwise I may have to race you prove my point and I dunno if you’re green kitten over there will be able to handle it.”
He winked. His “smack talk” was said in a playful and jovial tone. Obviously there was no ill will meant in it so he hoped that Emerald was not going to take his challenge personally. He was a joking guy. Then again, he was damn good at riding his bike. If Emerald wanted the challenge…
>> "So are we ready to go?"
He blinked, then nodded.
“Oh, yeah! Let’s go,” he said as he slipped his own motorcycle helmet over his head. Once it was secure he climbed onto his bike and waved Emerald over. He revved the engine of his cycle. “If you’re worried about your rose, you can slip it back into my pack.”
