Akshay smirked as he watched the kid follow after the waitress, trying to get some French fries to go with his hangover. Food really was one of the best ways to fight it, but hopefully god be with him that he will be able to hold it all down. Either way it should be an interesting show. So Akshay said nothing as the kid wandered off to try and score some French fries from the waitress.
As he did that, Akshay reveled in the effects of aspirin as it coursed throughout his system. Already he was feeling the effects of his hangover slipping away. Thank goodness for that. After all, this was New Year’s Eve and it was no fun to spend it completely knocked on your butt out of too much alcohol.
OR the effects some of blond mutant bombshell that made you just feel like you were completely knocked on your butt out of too much alcohol. Whatever the case, partying needed to be had.
>> "This is my friend Akshay and this is, where did he go?"
…
If he were an anime character, his nose would have burst into a nosebleed. Of COURSE this guy would be able to supply the hotties! So far he had kept them out of trouble, flashed cash for the V.I.P. room, and now was filling it with a plethora of babes? It was just getting to be too much. What, was this guy like related to the Hef or something? Either way, he respected the man vastly now.
“Evening, ladies!” he grinned as he gave an elegant bow. Thankfully the armor wasn’t heavy enough to topple him over.
“Wow…are you, like, wearing armor?” One dark-skinned woman with extremely curly, black hair asked with wide, blue eyes. Not to mention and extremely short, green dress that looked absolutely killer. “Are you a knight?!”
Akshay arched a brow. Grinned and nodded. “Yes, I am a knight.” Best. New Year’s. EVER.

Star Wars auction…You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. I must be cautious…
Akshay thought to himself as he stood in the aisle, looking over the now crowded room. There were all sorts of people here, dressed in all manner of insanity. Comic superheroes, sci-fi characters, movie characters, TV show characters, video game characters, everyone was dressed as anything a nerd/geek/spaz’s mind could think up.
It was pure heaven.
The wordsmith grinned, dodged around a person in a rather bulking and interesting costume. The person was rather large and flabby but dressed in a leotard. It was obvious that he was attempting to dressed as The Glob from the Y-Men comic book series. But that was not the entirety of his costume. Instead he was also have a blue phone booth stuck on him, as if he were trapped half in and half outside of it. It was the Tardis from the Dr. Who series. Apparently this intrepid fan was trying to do a crossover costume.
Akshay had no nod approvingly as he watched the man go by. When the costumed crossover of a man turned and glanced out him out of the corner of his eye, the Wordsmith gave him a thumbs up sign.
“Original, buddy. Nicely done!” he smirked.
Turning his attention once more to the auction, Akshay confidently strolled down the aisles until he found a row of seats that looked like prime location. Holding his lightsaber to his hip he excused himself as he glided down the row of seats, stepping past people until he finally got to one of two seats that were empty. He sat down with a grateful sigh and looked up to see that the auction was nearly underway.
“Exciting!” he grinned.
It was then that he spotted a wisp of blonde hair and felt someone sit next to him. A glance to his right and he spied that familiar red and bronze colored armor and a cannon where right forearm should be. He smirked as he looked up to the sweet face that smiled coyly at him.
“Hey, Samus. Looks like you made it after all.” he smirked.
Samus only smiled and shrugged her armored shoulders. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world, Luke. Besides…that toilet seat…its mine.”
A dangerous look flashed across her eyes and but the smile was still on her face. It was enough to nearly combust Akshay right there.

Hey all! You know you wanna! Anyways, looking for threads for my pal Akshay here. If anyone is interested, check out the character profile linked in the signature below and either message me here or PM me! Akshay is pretty versatile. Anyways, if you're not sick of me, I too have all my characters available for threading with Gina. I believe we do still need to do a Gina/Agnes flying thread? Maybe during she can even reveal that she no longer has scars? Or Gina can point out about all the time Agnes spends with Rebecca? Just spitballing here! Up to you though!

The kid seemed slightly satisfied with his answer to the question. In all honesty Akshay tried to avoid thinking about that question too long. He was not embarrassed in the least that he worked in a comic store still as a clerk, but it did seem rather silly that he was a comic artist and working in the store in his old position. If anything Akshay should have been a manager or at least an owner of one by now. But unfortunately such opportunities never sprang up for him. So in the mean time he existed how he had to. Maybe one day…
He blinked the thought away as he smirked, looking around at the rest of the comic books. This place would always feel like his home.
A meek sound from Chase and Akshay turned his attention back to the boy as he wracked his brain, trying to think of what he wanted. He knew that this would be difficult. If Chase had no experience with comic books then he was going to be hard pressed to consider whatever it was that he liked. But Akshay did not doubt his ability he had bragged about mere moments ago. In truth he actually was quite good at picking out comics for newbies.
>> "Um... Well... cops are really cool, and.... sharks... bugs... erm... science and math. I dunno. I like going on adventures. And, uh, mutants are pretty cool, too."
He nodded understandingly, stroking his chin in thought. Those were some extremely varied interest but he had comic titles for each that seemed the most appropriate for Chase. But…another question popped into his head, one that he did not want to ruin the boy’s experience…or his own wiggle room…
“Hey,” he carefully, not trying to sound mean or prying. “You know, since I don’t want to pile you down with too many books, why don’t you tell me how much you got to spend so that I way, I can give you only the most creamiest of the crop I have for sale here.”

Akshay did not know what he was expecting. Maybe for a fangirlish squee or instant adoration and respect! Hell, maybe even for the skies to part open and shine a beam of golden light down upon his brow. Just some form of angelic recognition of who he was. But there were two things wrong that scenario: 1) Akshay vastly overrated his popularity in the comic scene. After all, his comic was little more than an indie comic and circulated in small groups; and 2) the boy already admitted to knowing absolutely nothing about comics.
So, as one can see, there were a vast many holes in his plan to gain adoration from the boy. And that was proven by the way the boy simply looked between the back cover and himself.
>> "Chase…N-nice to meet you."
Chase, apparently, was just not making the connect. Akshay sighed a little sadly, his dream of fame fading more and more. At least he still had fun writing and drawing what he loved, right? So, shaking the melancholy off he turned his attention back to Chase in order to school him further on comics when suddenly he paused. Chase stood there, his eyes growing wide with amazement.
Guess those gears finally clicked into place? Akshay thought to himself. But he smirked as he watched the boy…
>> "Mr. Akshay…If you write comic books, why do you work here?"
Million dollar question, he thought.
It was true. After all, Akshay wanted to be a comic book writer and artist! He wanted to live up to those great artists and writers that adorned the walls and shelves all around him! So…why was he still working in the shop then? Maybe it was out of respect for his fellow artists? Maybe it was because he wanted to pay his dues? Or maybe he simply was just loyal to this nice comic shop that gave him his best job ever in the first place? Whatever the reason, the end result was still the same…he still worked here.
He smirked as he nodded to the boy.
“That is a vast and deep mystery, Chase,” Akshay said with an sage-like look on his face. “But for now, let’s just say it’s because I like comics.” he grinned wide. “So, what else are you interested in? I’m usually pretty good about helping customers find their dream comic book series.”

Akshay grinned as he showed off his most crowning achievement to the child, his very own comic book. He really was very proud of his own work, and not in a conceded way, or anything. It was just that he had achieved something that few people had every managed to achieve. Though he did fear the success of his “masterpiece” that in no way meant that he was not proud of it. He was glad that he had reached as broad an audience as it did. And yeah, it was not making him a million dollars, but at least he had his foot in the door. And that was a lot more than a lot of comic artists had these days.
But he smirked as he watched the boy look it over. He seemed to be impressed and that only make Akshay’s heart soar. Another fan in the making? God, he really hoped so. He loved meeting fans.
>> "What is a--'Were-zombi-pire-stein Slayer'?"
He laughed, heartily. He was not surprised. The title brought a lot of confusion to a lot of people but to those that got it, they had all shared a hearty laugh. But Akshay did not hold it against the boy that he did not know about it. After all, he admitted that he had absolutely no previous knowledge or experience with comic books. Therefore it was probably safe to surmise that he knew nothing about many pop culture references.
It’s all good. It just meant that the boy needed to be school and Akshay was only too glad to help.
“You see, the title is just kind of ironic. There’s a lot of vampire, werewolf, angel teenage romance stories out in the market right now. You know,” he said as he waved to a cardboard cutout at the BACK of the store of a very pale, very sparkly vampire. “Like him over there. So, this character is gets to kind of kick ALL of their butts. It’s very exciting and very action packed. And I should know,” he grinned as he gently took the comic from the boy and flipped it around to the back. In the back of it was a picture of the very man the boy was speaking to and his name underneath the photo. “After all, I’m Akshay Malik.” he beamed as he held out his hand to shake the kid’s. “And it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Akshay smirked as he stood back and watched as she shook out her hair. Removing the helmet from her head, her red hair cascaded down and Akshay found himself just staring at her. Not in a creepy, obsessive way or anything, but merely because he was enchanted by her appearance. She really was gorgeous. Part of him wondered if she ever realized that about herself. From the way she reacted around a simple compliment, he doubted it. But hopefully she would realize that about herself.
He was sure his fawning over her would help.
Undoing the strap of his helmet, Akshay pulled it off his head and immediately brushed his hand through his hair to fix it. After that was done, he tucked his helmet underneath his arm as he watched Emerald. He truly hoped that she was fine with this restaurant. After all, he really did know if she would have had problem with eating red meat (though he doubted it). Thankfully, by the wag in her wolf tail, she seemed just fine with it.
>> "Hell yeah I'm a carnivore, I need meat to live, to exist, to thrive,"
Akshay laughed. Her response was enthusiastic and one that he was very thankful to hear.
>> "Aw man the only thing that would make this place better would be if we could hunt our own food. Still, seriously a great choice!"
“I’ll see what I can do next time,” he added with a wink. He was joking of course but then again he was joking kind of guy. He didn’t even know if this woman would give him the time or day for another date. He could only cross his fingers and hope so. “Shall we?”
Upon taking his arm, he them led her into the restaurant…

Akshay had hoped that he hadn’t had embarrassed the boy or anything. He tried to explain what manga was as gently as possible to prevent that. Not everyone knew about such things and, seeing that the boy had never been in a comic shop before, Akshay was not a bit surprised. But he hoped that the boy would not take personal offense to his explanation.
Thankfully, though, it seemed that boy was not too embarrassed by his mistake. Excellent!
>> "Oh, Um, my bad."
Akshay smirked and shook his head.
“No need to apologize, Little Man,” Akshay said with a nod. “We all need to learn sometimes.”
>> "Are all the books... manga... here? And are there any for older kids?"
Wow. Apparently this kid really had absolutely no clue about comics or manga of ANYkind. He was like a complete and total blank slate. But as Akshay stood there, watching him, he saw that look in the kid’s eyes. The look that said that he was hungry for more knowledge, that he wanted to learn and to understand the colorful, 2-D world which Akshay lived in every day. Yes, the wordsmith could see that spark of interest. The blank slate was turning into a willing sponge, seeking information in order to fill itself up.
Bravely, Akshay knew that he was going to have to take on the task of teaching this boy. And he was only too happy to do so.
Still kneeling, he smirked as he shook his head to the boy’s first question.
“No, not all the books are manga here. Only this section. The rest,” he said as he waved to the rest of the collection around the store, “are standard comic books. Read left-to-right, as you would normally read.”
But he stood when the boy had given him his next question. Comics for older kids? A small smirk appeared over his face. He had the PERFECT one in mind. He quickly gave the boy a gesture that told him to remain still. Once he saw that he was not moving, Akshay moved over to his counter and fished around until he found a comic. With it in hand he turned back to the blank slate of a child and proudly held it out for him to take.
“This is the first issue of Slaggathor the Were-zombi-pire-stein Slayer! Seems just adult enough for you,” Akshay said with a nod. But not before he leaned in and whispered. “But I wouldn’t show that to your mom.” He winked.

The adrenaline poured through Akshay’s veins as he rode through the streets of New York on the silver ducati. Not only was his heart beating fast because of the rush he got from riding this mechanical beast but also for the fact that he had a pretty girl clinging onto him. Akshay was no stranger to giving a lovely female a ride on his ducati but rarely did they ever feel like this young woman. Normally girls were scared or clung tightly out of fear. Emerald, though, was different. She was actually enjoying every second of the ride.
She was certainly a woman full of surprises. Lovely surprises.
Speeding through the streets, but be careful not to be too reckless, Akshay found himself enjoying the ride more than he normally did as well. Sometimes it was always better to share these types of things with someone else.
His destination clear in his mind, he pressed onward, turning corners and weaving in and out of traffic. He hoped that the place that he had picked out would be okay with the wolf-girl. Maybe he should have just met her for coffee first, or something. After all, he really didn’t know anything about her except that she looked almost exactly like one of his comic book characters and that she had a mean punch.
Oh well…he would get to know her down and roll with the punches.
>> "We there yet champ? Not that I mind the ride but I'm mighty curious where we are having this lunch of ours."
He grinned as he saw the street he was looking for coming up. He nodded his head in reply that they were about to arrive. Though she could not see his face due to the visor, he was clearly smiling.
Rounding the corner, he slowed his bike down and pulled up to the sidewalk. In front of them was restaurant that was very simple looking. It had a green awning above the front doors that said “Gallagher’s Steakhouse” in flowing white letters. Normally on dates guys go for the fancy French restaurants and such, but that was never really Akshay’s cup of tea. He was man of simple tastes and that was something that anyone he asked out should be informed of up front.
Akshay killed the ignition and flipped up his vision as he glanced over his shoulder to Emerald.
“I hope this place is okay for you. You are a carnivore, I hope,” he beamed from beneath his helmet.

Akshay was still fuming after his meeting with Newman. That guy just always seemed to push the wrong buttons with him. When they first met, he knew that they were going to be the mortalest of enemies. Akshay did not agree with ANY of the shady practices with which Newman ran his part of the store. He treated those he managed like machines and little more. Akshay knew that the man needed a swift kick in the pants, desperately! He hoped that when that day came that he would have the dubious honor of doing it.
But, now was not the time to think about that too much (however entertaining the thought was). He was not going to let Newman ruin the rest of his Comic-Con experience. There was still a whole convention to explore until the auction.
Until the time of the auction, Akshay distracted himself from thoughts of Newman by checking out the various booths. It did not take long for the large Darth Vader to be pushed into the back of his mind. He reveled in the joys of comics, video games, actions figures, and swag. As a matter of fact he had collected a rather hearty haul of swag this year. It was going to be a good year.
The best of this day though, he had to admit were the booth babes. They were always so nice, especially because they knew that he was not some type of freak. The veterans knew him by name as being a flatterer, but harmless and fun; the newbies simply thought he was extremely sweet. And Akshay really was. He knew that of everyone at Comic-Cons, they probably had some of the toughest jobs. After all, nerds could leer quite a bit.
But the reason that the booth babes were actually the best part of his experience thus far was the fact that one of them had actually give him her phone number! Squeeeeee! She was dressed as Samus from Metroid and they had sparks the first moment that they met. She commented that he had an impressive “lightsaber”. Of course he could only respond that she had an impressive Varia suit and that her “Zero Suit” was probably even better…
…yup, match made in heaven.
Even better of all, she was supposed to be at the auction! Which was happening now!
“Squeeeee!” Akshay grinned as he made his way to the auction room.
Once he got to the door, he had to pause and keep his excitement in check. The decorating team obviously decided to go all out for this venture. The normal swinging doors had been replaced by a large metal looking doors that looked as if they came straight out of Jabba the Hutt’s palace. Grinning, he pounded on the door.
A second or two passed before a small compartment slid open and Akshay jumped back. From the space came out another replica from the movie, this time an exact copy of the Door Droid that peeked out from Jabba’s palace door from “Return of the Jedi”! Akshay was completely flipping out about how cool this was.
With a smirk he raised his ID to the prop to show that he had bought his ticket to participate in the auction. Once that was confirmed the “droid” retreated and doors slide open. Grinning, Akshay took a breath and sauntered in. It was time to claim his prize…

Akshay tilted his head a little once his question was asked. A quick glance to the boy and Akshay could see that the boy was a little confused, maybe even a little flustered. He hoped that he was not disturbing him as he was trying to make an important selection. That was really the main reason why he had ask if he could help him to find anything. Just to give him a little direction in case he knew what he wanted but just know where to search for it.
But as he shifted the books between his hands in order to help out if need be, he noticed that the boy seemed to be even more flustered looking.
>> "Um... I... I don't really know what I'm, uh, looking for. I came with friend because I've never been to a comic book store before, so I guess I'm not really looking for anything."
The whole of Akshay world began to collapse around him. A young boy…who’d never…been…in a COMIC BOOK STORE BEFORE!? The Wordsmith had to calm his throbbing heart. Seriously, what was WRONG with parents these days? He had never even heard of such a cruel punishment before! Denying a child the thrill and majesty of comic books? Never in his wildest dreams did he think that anyone could be so demented.
He sighed heavily, his face contorting into a look of sympathy for the young lad. This was definitely something that he was going to have to change. He could teach the boy! Hell! If he could teach Rebecca, he could teach just about anyone!
>> "I think there's something wrong with this book. They put the front on the back and the back on the front... they did it to another one of these books, too."
Another arched eyebrow and he tilted his gaze down to the book that was being shown. Immediately he knew that as last month’s issue of Bleach, but there was something wrong with it? He then focused in on the rest of the statement and he soon realized what the boy was talking about. Something wrong? The kid had apparently just never dealt with a manga before. He smiled sympathetically as he found a place on the shelf to set down the books he was about to slip onto the shelves.
He then knelt down in front of the boy as he took the book gentle from him and gave it a once over.
“Does look wrong, doesn’t it?” he said. But there was no malice or mockery in his voice. “It’s just because you’re not used to it. See…these,” he said as he referred to the rest of the books on the shelves around the boy, “they’re a special kind of comic book called a ‘manga’. They come from Japan and there,” he opened the “back” of the book and directed the boy to the page one, “ “They need their manga’s from right-to-left.”

Akshay sighed. Of course today would be a shipment day and he had forgotten to sign up Rebecca for it. He was so going to rectify that mistake as soon as the day was over. Of all the days for him to not sign up the pretty redhead for, today had to be the day. Well, Rebecca was going to find a nice change in her schedule the next time that she came in.
…
…When was that again?
He groaned. He really needed to start memorizing the schedules of the people he worked with. It was quite silly of him to not too. After all, he hoped to own this comic store one day and he really could not do that if he did not even know the names and schedules of his employees. At least he was ahead of the game insofar by knowing names. Now once he got the times that they would be here memorized then everything should be a go!
“Sign here!” a burly man muttered.
Akshay grinned as he stood behind his counter and quickly plucked up his lightsaber pen and marked his John Hancock onto the sheet of paper he was offered. Once that was done, he smirked as the burly man heaved a pair of large boxes onto his counter with an audible THUD. Akshay winced as he stared at the massive box.
“Ummm…care to help me move that to that back room?” he pleaded.
“Sorry, I have to keep to schedule,” the man replied and made his exist.
Akshay lowered his head sadly as the man walked out. Left alone with a very large and heavy box, SO not cool! He shook his head. He grabbed the edges of the box, straightened his back, tightened his muscles, and prepared to move it—
Cling-Cling!!
He was startled by the sound of customers walking into his store. He turned and watched a gaggle of young men and children meandered into his store. The majority of them were regulars but there were a couple of faces he didn’t recognize. They were good kids, so long as they did not mess up his shelving or bend the spines of the books.
He waved at them with a wide grin.
“Hi guys!” he announced as he turned back to the behemoth of a box. There was no point in trying to carry the damn thing, he might as well just open it here.
The tape was ripped off and he pulled open the flaps, revealing a fresh crop of manga. Not his absolute favorite but he could respect comic books in a new form, so long as they kept reaching out to audiences. Grabbing a couple, he kept an eye on the kids as he maneuvered his way over the manga section. Once there, a hand full of new issues, he paused when he notice that there was a young kid there, simply gawking at the variety of books. Bleach was a popular title with a long run. He wondered if the kid was a fan.
Akshay smirked as he moved near him.
“Hey little man,” Akshay grinned. “Can I help you find something?”

Heh, the look in the girl’s eyes was priceless. She looked like an owl that had been caught off guard by a flashlight. It was everything Akshay had to keep from laughing. Though he did not want to make fun of the girl. She really was sweet and cute and perfectly innocent so why spoil that? Instead he offered her the compromise. That was the best way to deal with the situation. There were plenty of female comic book characters that did NOT wear clothing as if they were posing for Playboy. He was sure he could find something acceptable for Rebecca.
Anyways, that was for later thoughts! For now though he was just happy to have a new recruit! And he informed her of such.
>> "Really?! Stoatin!"
…
…Now he just needed to inform the manager. God he hoped the man was not going to kill him for this. But hey, the man said that he wanted him to take more executive decisions, didn’t he? Akshay was only following orders! Yup…that was going to be the argument he used when he told his manager.
>> "Well, Ah shoulds probably get back to Aedus. He fond meh on th' sidewalk lookin' fer a job an' was sae nice helpin' meh out!"
“Lucky guy,” Akshay grinned as he looked over to Aedus.
So THAT was how the two of them met. Well, it was apparent that Aedus simply had a knack for rescuing people in distress. He had done the same for him when he was at the New Year’s party and now, all of a sudden, he was rescuing someone new! What, was he just the nicest guy in the world, or something? Akshay had to admit that he had definite bro-spect for the man! They really needed to run into each other clubbing again.
He shook his head when he turned his attention back to Rebecca.
>> "It was nice meatin' ye, Akshay! Ah look forward tae workin' wi' ye!"
“Ahh, pleasure was all mine,” he said cheerfully as he reached out and shook the young lady’s hand. “Stay by your phone, and you should hear from me concerning the details!”
He beamed as he let her loose and glanced down to her application. He arched a brow as he noted that she wrote: ” "Whatever is fair, thank you."” and he just had to smirk. She really was just too damn adorable…

>> "U-Um, Ah mean... costumes dornt sound like a horrible idea. Well, um, y-ye dornt mean anything too revealing, right?"
…
…
…
He blinked and shook his head before he carefully shifted into a slight nod but also turned that into a quick shrug. That was going to be a hard sell for Rebecca. They had female workers before but the majority of them were major fans so they had no problem wearing costumes when it came time for promotions. As a matter of fact there were few times that they actually had to BUY the costumes for their female workers.
But Rebecca here was a different story. She had absolutely no knowledge in comics, except for the ramblings of a friend of hers. Getting her into a costume was going to be tough, unfortunately, it was one of those things that the management demanded of their employees. Even HE had to wear costumes during promotional days!
Well…not that he complained…
Ahem…
>> “Ah think Ah'm done!"
“Congrats!” he grinned as he took the application from her and set it aside. Once that he was down, he fished down underneath his counter until he found a photo album and set it down in front of the girl. “As for the costume, well…SOMEtimes they can be revealing, but they’re tasteful!” he said with a nod.
He opened the book to the first page. It was one of the stores former employees, a young woman, who looked rather sternly in her costume. She was always such a ball bu—He shuddered at the thought. He then flipped to the second page. Heh, Kelsi. He really should give her a call again. But before he fell too deeply into this reminiscing, he blinked as he turned his attention back to Rebecca.
“Um…I-I guess ‘too revealing’ can be relative?” he shrugged as he closed the book so that he didn’t frighten the redhead too much. “Well, you know what, I can work with you. On promotional days, which are like once a month, I’m sure I can find you a nice, decent costume that isn’t revealing, if you like.” He beamed in a friendly manner. He then took the application and filed it away. “By the way, I’m fairly certain that you’ve got the job.”
