The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gina nodded as Becca and Agnes agreed to the trip to Mendocino. It was all that the pictures conveyed and more, a true respite from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, which was a mere three hours south of the small town. While Gina loved the big city for its teeming life, there was something so lovely about sitting on one of the rocky outcrops of Mendocino Headlands State Park, and watching the Pacific undulate before you. It was so quiet.
Gina’s modest dismissal earned rave reviews from Becca and her counterpart, this time including an offer to feature her on Becca’s channel should she want. The gargoyle touched a hand to her cheek, feeling the warmth of her cheek—she was probably blushing, and the alcohol likely had no small role in that.
>> ”Ye know, we shoods really check it th’ dance fluir upstairs, suin.”
This proposal earned shocked responses out of both Nessa and Agnes, which made Gina laugh in amusement. There was something to be said when your ex and your current gf were both in disbelief.
>> ”Come on, sis! Let’s go dance a little. You have enough energy for ten dancers.”
With a grin, Gina eased forward and leapt off of her seat, boogying goofily over to her sister.
“You know it,” the gargoyle said, giving Agnes a little hip-bump.
Agnes extended the invitation, while the gargoyle did her rendition of a “come with us” dance. It was a little Macarena-esque movement, palms towards the ceiling, shoulders bobbing rhythmically to the song that the pianist was playing. River politely declined, Agnes extended the invite to Becca and Nessa. Gina began dancing at the two of them instead. This time, quietly chanting, “Do it! Do it! Do it!” in-time with her little ditty.
Of course, dancing with Agnes would be just as fun, but it was more fun when there were more people. Gina gave a winsome smile, extending her hands towards Becca and Nessa, continuing with her dance-and-chant.

>> ”Dornt mention it. What's th' point ay havin' three-hundred thoosain followers if Ah dornt gie tae shaw aff mah awesome friends daein' awesome things.”
"Three hundred thousand?!" Gina sputtered, her eyes growing saucerlike. She gaped at her redheaded friend, rocking forward on the bed. Her phone reverberated with a notification. And, moments later, it reverberated again. The blogging app. A message. A follow. Two follows. Zzz-zzz-zzz.
>> ”Looks loch they're awreddy lookin'. Nifty.”
"Becca, I didn't know you were, like, famous..." Gina whispered, an apologetic note in her tone, "Holy sh**."
Her phone continued it's buzzing, and Gina watched it, too mystified to even touch it. She'd talked about "her big break" as though it were some lofty fantasy that would never come to volition. And maybe this wasn't a "big break" per se, but... the steadily mounting following wouldn't hurt, that was for sure.

I'm totally down with Gina and Darkshft being roomies. Which room do you want for her? :)c Gina's in Room #1, closest to the fire escape. So 2-4 are still open for PC's.

Gina could feel the flush in her cheeks that usually came immediately after alcohol entered her system. A small stitch pulled at Gina's brow at the underhanded comment River made about drunken decisions. Huh. Salt-y. The conversation was hastily charging forward, however, when Rebecca asked what she'd missed. Nessa brought her up to speed.
Gina gave an affirming nod, when the short-haired woman mentioned Gina's own suggestions. Though Gina had crossed the states to come to school, her sightseeing repertoire was relatively small. That might have been a byproduct of flying everywhere for travel. If you didn't drive (and didn't easily fit in a car), it was difficult to go on roadtrips.
>> ”Actually, Ah bit that'd make a stoatin girls trip. We've ne'er gotten tae dae one ay those, an' Ah ne'er travel in th' States. Weel, missions, but those dornt coont.”
Then, Agnes mentioned her reservations about traveling, about her time "living outside", as it were. Gina listened intently, continuing to nod. That was a good point. Having to travel because you had nowhere to settle had to put a damper on traveling for fun. River murmured something about home being about "whoever you were with", and the gargoyle felt the stitch pulling at her brow. What... a...
"You guys should come to Cali with me some time," Gina heard herself saying, "Mom loves having company, and Mendocino is go-o-o-o-orgeous. Not a whole lot of autumn leaves, though-- mostly Coastal Redwoods."
Which were beautiful in their own right. But, Gina was stuck on seeing autumn leaves. Where would the best place to go to see those be? Massachusetts? Or was it Maine? The gargoyle pondered.
"It'd be different than just traveling because then we'd have a place to go back to," Gina assured her sister, "We could go during abalone season. And we could get some avocado. And go to the beach!"
Ohhh, avocado. For some reason, there was a serious dearth of avocado in New York. And when there was avocado, it wasn't nearly as good as avocado's from California. And beaches... Gina missed the cold, rugged Northern California coast. The sea in New York felt less like home.
>> ”Gina, how is school going? Getting a lot done? I do hope when you become a famous fashion designer that you’ll still remember me?”
>> ”Yeah, success gets to your head…so I hear…”
A smile tugged at the gargoyle's mouth, but there was a certain edge to it. Perhaps the canid teeth were slightly more clenched than usual, or perhaps the casually twitching tail betrayed some smacking of annoyance. Why was River being so butt-hurt? To her sister, no less? On Gina's birthday??? She was probably being too paranoid. No need to be a diva about. Maybe that's just how River talked.
"I don't think I'm on the road to fame or anything," Gina said humbly, casually resting her elbows upon the table, "Classes are going very well, all around. I feel like the ante's really starting to get upped though, since I just started my first few upper division courses. Double-majoring means everything takes a little longer."
Gina smiled at her sister. Of course, there were struggles too-- though she enjoyed the social work aspect, her heart wasn't necessarily there. And fashion was more about aesthetics and less about the pragmatic notions that Gina had. Her eyes slid towards Nessa, briefly. She was happy, despite the struggles she faced. But this wasn't necessarily the space to be bringing the challenges of school up. Her eyes slid back towards Agnes.
"I could never forget you, Aggie," the gargoyle assured her, before her tone grew more teasing, "Heck, maybe you could even be one of my clients. I might even cut you a deal."
The offer was genuine, despite her jovial tone. Agnes sported her own pair of wings, and there were only so many open-backed tops in the world.
Sometimes it can be a challenge to find ways for your character to meet other characters, particularly if they are not in the school-age demographic or not in-line for a faction. Or maybe it isn't a challenge for you, and perhaps you're looking to add another dimension to your character's thread repertoire?
Friends, look no further!
I presently have Gina living in a "co-living situation" in New York. What this means is that someone took a four-story townhouse and converted a number of the floors into apartments shared between four individuals. It's essentially like a fancy dorm but not just for college students. I thought it would be cool to open-up the building to other tenants to present some thread opportunities for those who want it.
The Building
All of the information that follows was pulled from this website, wherein they discuss a real live co-living place.
The building is four stories tall, and also has a cellar (partially below street level). The cellar contains a pair of washers and dryers, sofas and chairs, a t.v. and a boardroom table.
Floors one through four contain the residences. Each residence has four bedrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, and two full baths. The second-floor residence has a balcony, as it is above the entryway.
There is also a small backyard, and rooftop access.
Please see the included link for images of the townhouse. The floorplan can be found here. Please note that floors two through four have a fifth bedroom off of the living room. In our rendition, pretend those walls do not exist, and that it is instead a small dining area (a round table with four chairs).
Occupants can request either the furniture that comes with the room, or bring some of their own furniture as well. Furniture is considered part of the deposit.
Located at 1162 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, NY, this cooperative living facility boasts a mutant-friendly atmosphere. Though your character need not be a mutant to rent a room at "The Co-Op", it is strongly recommended that they're at least mutant-friendly. Rooms for rent are for single occupancy only, must be 18+ to apply. (If your character is under 18, your character needs to find means to fake their age and their credit history. This can be hand-waved in a post where they move-in.
While each floor hosts a four-bedroom apartment, it isn't like four separate apartments-- each resident has key-card access to the other three floors. Think of it as sixteen people sharing four kitchens, rather than four people sharing one.
Rent covers utilities, wi-fi, and management fees. In compliance with New York's housing laws, rent is by-apartment rather than by-room, but roommates can seek people to finish their lease, should life circumstances cause them to move elsewhere.
This facility is owned by a property management agency. The superintendent/repairman for the building lives a few doors down from the Co-Op, in his own house. He's a frequent fixture in the building, a soft-spoken man who seems overwhelmed by the vibrant personalities that often flock to the Co-Op.
The Co-Op has monthly meetings (third Thursday of the month), whole-group dinners in the Cellar on Sunday nights, and residents will occasionally host game nights, movie nights, or anime nights at their own discretion.
Current Residents
Each #1 is the room closest to the fire escape, and it goes in numerical order down the line. Room #4 is the room closest to the kitchen. (As an OOC note, I will keep you on the list as long as there are other rooms available. In the event that your character goes inactive, all of the rooms are full, and someone expresses interest in housing their character here, your spot will be given to them. If, however, this ends up being popular idea on the boards, I might just have the owner of this co-op buy the neighboring building. The more the merrier! I will work on the same schedule as Taken Mutations does.)

>> ”Soonds delicious! Ah’ll be reit back wi’ tasty treats!”
Gina waved as Becca departed, giving a soft and teasing, "Don't talk to strangers," before returning her attention to the group.
>> ”So, birthday girl.”
Gina turned to face Becca's counterpart, inclining her head inquiringly.
>> ”Becca tells me you are working on clothing designs these days?”
One way to curry favor with the gargoyle was to ask her about her clothes-- a topic which she would eagerly divulge far too much information about with very little prompting. Her wings gave an eager little flutter.
"Oh yes, I alter most of my clothes!" Gina confirmed, "Been doing it since I was... hmm... twelve! I think! I'd really like to make a business out of it, so I'm going to school for it."
>> "Is this a Gina original? If not, I’d love to take a look at your stuff sometime."
Gina chuckled and shook her head, a small flush creeping into her cheeks, "No, would you believe it? I actually got this right off the rack! Which, like, never happens... it was super lucky. Fits my wings and everything."
"I'd be more than happy to show you my stuff," Gina said with a nod, crossing her arms at the wrists, still smiling. For a moment, she wondered if Nessa was genuinely interested-- she remembered once, when one of her three roommates had noncommitally expressed interest in a commission and soon found themselves at the mercy of an excitedly rambling Gina. An hour and a half later they'd excused themselves by saying that they hadn't expected such an effervescent sharing session and left a rather sheepish gargoyle in their wake.
Nessa turned to River and Agnes, thus the gargoyle did the same, nodding along as Nessa commented on the traveling lifestyle River had, bobbing her head. There was something so romantic about the traveling life. Gina would have to pry for more details later that night.
"Traveling is really good for the soul," Gina agreed absently with River, completely missing the point, "I've always wanted to go down the East Coast at Fall, see some autumn leaves. Or go into Canada!"
Then, Nessa addressed Agnes. The gargoyle listened curiously, unsure of what the "that" the short-haired woman addressed implied. "That" as in Becca? Or as in River? Either way it was an awkward statement, which caused Gina to roll her lips together. Ho-kay then. A cheerful Rebecca returned with drinks, and Gina gave an excited cheer.
"'ey, they're so cute!" she observed, leaning closer to inspect them, "That red-to-blue gradient is something else!"
The gargoyle carefully chose the one closest to her, pausing to survey it. For the sake of silliness, she extended a pinkie.
"Cheers, ladies," Gina said, raising the glass, "I'm really glad we could all come together tonight."
Gina had a really good feeling about the night ahead. They would have so much fun.
After sharing the toast, the gargoyle would slam the shot back. (One of her university friends had kindly shown her how it was done.) In one sip, it was down. The aftertaste of the sour watermelon brought her lips to a pucker. But ooo, it was so sweet too.
"Ten outta ten," the gargoyle said, "Tastes like a Jolly Rancher."

The more that Agnes cast sidelong glances his direction, the less that Khalil began to believe that she was an immediate threat. SUPER had to apprehend him immediately, right? Because he was Ragnarok and had a proclivity for arsony, they were supposed to engage him immediately.
>> ”There something else you wanted?”
Khalil brightened at the inquiry, squelching-out the flame that had been casually rolling over his fingertips. Of course, Khalil percieved the naunces of annoyance in the young woman's expression, but the look of annoyance only fueled the young man. If he was anything, he was an imp.
"I want a good many things," Khalil purred, leaning his head upon his hand, "Mostly, I just want to have a good time. Ms. Agnes-- do you consider yourself a lawful citizen?"
He casually crossed one leg over the other, his tail curling with delight. He was almost certain that she wasn't SUPER, but this would be a true test as to whether or not she was.
"I mean, I would like to think we're kindered spirits, you and I," and he went on, "You like bashing faces in, and I pursue more... incendiary habits."
He let the proposal hang pregnantly in the air. She was a very serious person, and Khalil was of the mindset that if she let herself relax, she might even enjoy herself. Did she like bashing faces in, would it help soothe her sour mood? Or would she like to see this biker bar go up in the flames?
She could just as easily say that she'd rather watch her show-- whatever it was-- but Khalil was looking to have some fun, however illegal.

>> ”’At place is really hard tae walk awa' frae, Ah cannae wait tae see ye aroond mair.”
Gina chuckled, "It's kinda weird that we hadn't seen each other around already."
I mean, here they were, working at the same school-- and it took a happenstance video on ViewTube for them to reconnect. What sort of simultaneously fantastic and yet horrible luck did that entail?
The gargoyle reclined and then stretched, "I mean, sure~" she wasn't one to brag, but that was fairly apt. She'd had a string of flings since her late high school years, and since graduating, "But nothing serious... just dates and stuff."
Saying that she was jealous was merely Gina's way of voicing her appreciation. Nessa was cute! Becca should be proud.
>> ”Gina, thes is brilliant. Ye can really dae great things wi’ thes! ’Scuse me,”
Gina reclined against a bare sot of wall, watching Becca with arced brows.
"Sure thing," she hummed, assuming Becca had to make a call or something. She watched the redhead switch from Gina's phone to her own, and hurriedly type a message. With a grin, Becca tossed the phone down, and Gina leaned forward.
The gargoyle read the Chirp slowly, then re-read it a second time. When she'd happened upon Becca's ViewTube account, she hadn't been aware of her global presence. Sure, the video had a lot of views, but she hadn't quite connected the dots. She still wasn't totally aware of Becca's reputation.

Becca seemed to have caught the gargoyle's surveying glance, and quickly reassured her.
>> "Ah’m pure sorry, Ah hope thes isnae awkward fer ye. We’ll find ye a hottie of yer own if ye loch. Til then, we can totally share Nessa.”
"I've got four hot dates right here," Gina reassured her, giving her a jaunty salute, "Don't even worry about it."
Over the threshold they crossed, and Gina's eyes sparkled as they drank in the sights. It was super classy. Like probably the swankiest club Gina had ever been in. (But then again, she'd only been in about three clubs so far, so the gargoyle didn't have a huge basis of comparison.) She was so absorbed in the sights, she didn't hear
"Hooooly crap," Gina gasped. She wasn't sure where to look. The baby-grand piano, the chic bars, the lighting, the decor. She was definitely dressed for the occasion, but something about this fancy-*ss club was bound to make anyone feel under-dressed.
>> ”Birthday shots! Ah've got th' first roon, if th' birthday lass woods loch tae pick whit we're drinkin?”
The gargoyle bounced excitedly, following the redhead to one of the small tables. She didn't know much about mixed drinks, so her usual process of elimination entailed getting what was "popular" or what was "prettiest". Choosing well was especially important for someone of her stature-- though she was curvaceous, that didn't change the fact that she was barely over five feet. She couldn't drink that much.
>> ”Come on, birthday girl, pick your posion.”
Gina perused the menu, and one name in particular grabbed her attention.
"What about this one?" Gina suggested.
It was called the "Jolly Rancher", and contained an even mix of Everclear, blue curaçao, and sour watermelon schanpps. She wasn't really sure what curaçao was, but anything named after a super sugary candy had to be worth a shot! And you were supposed to try the fun, fruity shots on your birthday, right? Leave it to Gina to choose the shot named after a candy...

>> ”Gina! Happy belated birthday!”
An aggressive clack of heels drew closer, and Gina turned, her expression absolutely luminous at the familiar cadence of Rebecca’s voice. Gina turned, her wings aflutter with the excitement of seeing her redheaded friend once again. Gina wrapped her friend in a spine-popping hug, all smiles.
“Thanks, hun,” Gina sang, burrowing into the hug, “It’s good to see you.”
>> ”Gina, thes is Nessa. Babe, thes is one ay mah best an’ oldest friends.”
>> ”Glad to finally meet you, Gina. And happy birthday!”
Gina met Nessa’s gaze warmly, her smile unwavering. Sometimes people were nervous about mutants, however short and plump, but Nessa was handling it like a champ. And she was even prettier than the pictures that Becca had shown. A sharp pretty, the kind of pretty that wore smoky eyeshadow and spoke with a silver tongue. Despite the seemingly innocent powder-blue dress, she bore that air about her.
“Thank you! It’s lovely to meet you, too,” Gina greeted cheerfully, exchanging the handshake with two warm, clasped hands, “Nessa, right? Gosh you’re gorgeous.”
“I’ll have you know, I’m a hugger,” she said in conspiring tones to Rebecca’s counterpart, “But I’ll let you off easy, this time.”
All of this was, of course, said in a good-natured, jovial tone. Gina caught Becca’s anxious sidelong glance, and Gina (ever the mis-interpreter) voiced the concern she thought she gleaned from Becca’s gaze, “I hope Aggie can make it. She’s got this whirlwind violin-ing gig with the Philharmonic-“ of course, they probably already knew that, “-Could you imagine!? I bet they perform like every night.”
But Agnes said that she’d be there, so Gina was holding her to it.
>> ”Excuse me… I heard there was a birthday party happening here? And that you wanted the raunchiest strippers to attend?”
Gina gasped, twirling to face her sister with the proclamation of, “It wouldn’t be worth it if they weren’t the raunchiest! Holy sh**!”
>> ”Hiya sis…”
“Oh my gosh, Agnes!” Gina all but threw herself at Agnes. She was still definitely “Agnes”, but much like Becca, she was a more evolved Agnes—a more adult Agnes. Gina embraced Agnes for a while, squeezing her tightly, “It’s been for-ever! How have you been? How’s the Philharmonic!?”
Gina politely waited her sister’s response, of course, but she didn’t want to ignore her date, either.
“I’m Gina, lovely to meet you,” she said placidly, “Thank you for coming tonight.”
She looked between the four young women, gears turning… she felt a little out of place, being the only one without a date. But did you need a date to your own birthday party? Nah. Maybe they all were her collective dates? Gina grinned. She had to be the luckiest gargoyle, to have four, gorgeous dates!
“Shall we?” the gargoyle asked, barely able to contain her excitement.

>> "Quite the selection."
Gina's tail was flicking idly as she waited for the kid's to choose, and she paused mid-flick when Cafas murmured the observation and gave her a look. What was that supposed to mean?
>> "You brought Dusk on purpose didn't you?"
Ooohhh yeeeaaaah, that was a movie that Cafas was in, wasn't it? The gargoyle grinned toothily.
"Would you believe that I honest-to-god forgot you were in there?" she murmured back. There was not a single note of apology in her tone. He would just have to suffer, if that's the movie that the kiddos chose.
>> "Thanks by the way. With being cool about the whole matching thing. Abby needs a good role model among visible mutants."
Gina shrugged. She was used to it. Unsurprisingly, human kids and mutant kids alike were the most openminded about physical mutations. People learned shame, learned fear, either by experience or by their parents teachings. Gina was always super cool about any questions kids had or being that cool, supportive physically-mutated role model.
"No problem," Gina replied. When Cafas moved to talk to the kiddos, Gina moved towards the snack table. She would take one for the team and be the first to grab snacks. Someone had to do it.

To have your 21st Birthday fall on a Tuesday was terrible luck. You could celebrate the weekend before, but then you couldn’t drink—which defeated the purpose—or you could celebrate the weekend after, but that was at least three days after the actual date of your birthday.
Gina took this as an excuse to celebrate all week long. On the morning of her actual birthday (before her 11 a.m. class), Gina went to a mimosa brunch. Later that night, she and a handful of uni friends went-out to dinner at a fun restaurant just off campus, where a few of her friends took the opportunity to buy her a few drinks.
She celebrated with the roommates on Thursday. She bought a few packs of hard lemonades and they barbecued behind the house. A couple of roommates from various floors had even bought her birthday presents.
Now it was early Saturday evening. It had been Becca’s idea, initially. Having seen Gina’s Instagram pictures of the Tuesday- and Thursday-night festivities, she suggested that they have a get-together, too. Gina was more than enthused. In their correspondence, Rebecca even suggested that—should she be available—Becca might even be able to invite Agnes. The gargoyle’s heart swelled at the pronouncement. Though she and Becca were dear friends, Agnes was and always would be Gina’s sister, even after growing up and growing apart.
The plans were laid: meet at venue around six p.m., come dressed in a cocktail-dress level of fancy, and be ready for a night of fun.
Gina found herself to be the first one there, dressed in a champagne-colored dress. Though the young gargoyle had bought the dress directly off of a rack, it was almost as though it was made for Gina-- its high neck concealed the fact that a bra was sparing her from a night of back pain, its plunging scoop back accommodated her wings without requiring the gargoyle to alter it, and the A-line skirt accommodated her tail. And as if that was not enough, it had side-seam pockets. Whoever had made this dress was a god among mere mortals.
Her mane of curly brown hair had been wrangled into a bun (spare a few straggling strands), and was accented by a rose-gold hair comb that bore a semblance to laurels. Each earlobe was adorned by simple, tiny gold hoop earrings, and all of her belongings were tucked into a coordinating gold clutch.
Gina stood just outside of the venue, rocking on her feet and anxiously adjusting the dress. Though she wore the whole ensemble well, she felt like some sort of formal-wear impostor. She was no stranger to dresses, but traditionally she had always worn leggings underneath in the event that she decided to fly. Tonight, she had no such safeguard underneath the skirt. Some passing revelers greeted the petite gargoyle, and Gina waved wordlessly. The excited jitters over seeing her two dear friends, and of meeting Becca's girlfriend, did nothing to quell her excitement. If anything, it only made her more excited.

>> ”Same. Only those who deserve it.”
"But of course," Khalil purred, proud of his accomplishment at having gotten a few words out of the tight-lipped brunette. Not only that, but she'd chortled. That was progress.
He let the silence settle, at least for a little bit. He eased his attention into the drink before him, sipping it absently, preening absentmindedly, letting his golden-eyed gaze wander.
This wasn't a particularly target-rich environment, in regards to young men and women to woo. Agnes didn't seem like an option-- although battles of wits were enjoyable, flirting with someone who was flagrantly disinterested had no sport. It was one thing to flirt with another flirt. It was an entirely different thing to flirt with someone who could break your face in and not think twice. Surely, such a person wouldn't be interested in more carnal pursuits, either.
The demon-boy conjured a fingertip-flame, and took to his absentminded tendency of rolling the marble-sized flame around his fingertips, the tiny green orb casting a mischievous light in his eyes.
There was a niggling wonder if the lady was an agent, which dawned-on the demon boy a little too late. Advanced martial arts prowess, tight-lipped around mutants... but as a Ragnarok figure, S.U.P.E.R. was always uncomfortably interested in him. Particularly given Khalil's reputation as Poseidon's personal pyromaniac. He at least warranted a bag-and-tag, if not an attempt to be apprehended. He expected nothing less.
And yet, she hadn't tried to subdue him, for which he was grateful. It would be too overt to ask her affiliation, but his curiosity was piqued. After all, she didn't look mutant. Khalil took another sip of the drink, continuing to toy with the flame. He made flagrant side-eyes at Agnes, but his look bore no lust behind it. He looked at her as if trying to dissect the very nature of her being.

"The Mansion?" Gina gasped at Becca's proclamation at having come full circle and become a teacher for their alma mater, "No kidding! I just started a volunteering gig there."
The gargoyle stumbled through some mental gymnastics as she tried to figure if her redheaded friend was really, truly old enough to be a teacher. Some quick arithmatic led to the realization that, yes-- though Becca was still rather young, she wasn't too young to teach. Weird. That was one downfall of being the baby of the group. Some of your friends had real jobs and real lives and real everything and you were stuck in that weird stage of, "Well, legally you're an adult but you're also still partially dependent on your Mom".
Gina rushed through the tour of the rest of the house because, quite honestly, her bedroom was her pride and joy.
>> "It feels very 'Gina' tae me."
"Isn't it?" the gargoyle proclaimed proudly, "I'm glad you think so!"
The redhead tapped her phone a few times in response before tossing it onto the bed, before giving Gina the wordless cue to pick the phone up. Taloned hands carefully lifted the smartphone, and Gina clicked the first available picture. She had dark hair, dark eyes, and a smirk with just the faintest hint of drollness.
>> ”Her name’s Nessa. She is pure sweit when ye gie pest hoo snarky an' sarcastic she is. She works oan a gamin' channel. She's great tae me an’ cute as a button.”
Scroll, scroll, scroll.
"You guys are dang cute," Gina commented, "Gosh, I'm jealous."
Her tone was not one of someone who was genuinely jealous. Her attitude was more appreciative. Becca had found herself a beautiful girlfriend. Besides which, these days the grey-skinned girl was mostly a free agent, and she quiet honestly preferred it that way. She backed out, scrolled some more. She, of course, spotted the forgotten nudes. Her lip twitched in an imperceptible frown, in a brief expression of, "Oh, oops!" and she hurried past them politely. It wasn't any of her business and, frankly, what was the harm of a nude or two in a healthy relationship?
Various people of romantic interest were often asking Gina for nudes, but being uncommitted to anyone, never obliged. She would often handwave such requests with a coy, "Now you'll just have to come see me again, instead," or some flirtatious thing like that, which often enough sufficed.
Becca had taken to surveying the wall of portraits and Gina backed out of the gallery, politely setting it upon the mattress face down, following her friend's gaze. It was an impressive wall of photos, for sure-- perhaps a bit old-fashioned, but it helped Gina feel connected to all of her friends, old and new. Tucked in there were pictures from every stage of her life-- Mendocino days and Xavier's and even Uni. For good days and for bad, she could look to her photos and reminisce.
>> ”It’s amazing hoo time flies,”
Gina "mhmm'ed" quietly.
She, too, turned back to Becca when Becca looked back to her, smiling faintly.
>> ”Sae is th' machine a hobby, ur did ye end up gonnae skale fur fashion design loch ye a’ays said?”
"Still in school!" Gina chirped reassuringly, "I do some stuff on the side, too, but I don't have a degree or anything yet. Here-" now it was Gina's turn to tap at her phone, and fish out her blog page, "-You know how I fix my own clothes, right? I would really like to, like, make a business out of making specialty items for physically mutated people. 'cuz like, it's hard to find clothes that fit around wings and tails and stuff unless you know how to make alterations and stuff."
Gina slid the phone towards Becca, her own webpage open for surveillance. It switched between pictures of the gargoyle modeling her wares, to a mannequin-- the occasional sketches of different ways to modify clothes and even a patron or two.
"Of course I'm still pretty small-time," the gargoyle murmured, "I get some nice commission every now and again but nothing that'd be enough to live on. But! Still going to school, I'm sure it'll look up soon."
"Also double-majoring in social work, to appease Mom," Gina said with a wrinkle of her nose, "She doesn't think fashion is a realistic field to try and get into."
