The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kate sighed looking around her and following Evelyn’s gaze from painting to painting. Kate knew that it would take more than just per money but in this case it was all she had and she wanted to help. It was killing her to know that some of this work could be lost forever. “I understand, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to do everything I can to help. I’m a musician not an artist.” If playing would have helped she would have done it in a seconding but it didn’t and it wouldn’t. So money was once again the only solution she could give.
She let out another sigh as she moved back to writing the score and waiting for either Evelyn to speak or to walk away. Kate wasn’t sure what the girl would want to do after the events of the party but if she were to bring it up Kate would surely be willing to speak about it.
Kate chuckled and smiled at him. He was always so funny and had this way of cheering her up on a bad day. It was interesting how one little kid could turn around the remembrance of a few bad memories. “I have had plenty of practice teaching a prat like you.” Her smile grew into a grin as she laughed at her own joke.
>>>>>Seriously though. Blue is fine. We can go now.
Kate said nothing as she turned on her heels and marched towards the register. She was willing to talk about all of this and what had been happening but not right now. Not here. She couldn’t’ talk about it in front of these people. It was only a matter of time before it put her into a panic attack or something and she couldn’t’ do that in public. There was no saying if she could start a fire and then hurt all these people.
She smiled at the cashier and swiped her card. She dare not speak in fear of not being able to control what came out of her mouth. She took the bag and marched back to the not waiting car. “Thank you David.” She climbed in and waited for Sam. It was more than obvious she was having a mini freak out as the driver climbed into the vehicle. “Take us to the apartment please.” She needed to get somewhere where she could relax a little. A good portion of the things in her apartment were fireproofed just in case and the likelihood of her starting a major fire there were slim.
Once she had gotten her heart to calm Kate looked around the room for any signs of smoke. So far the fires had only really shown up when she was angry but it was only a matter of time till they started responding to her other emotions and this was not the place where she would want that to happen. She let out a sigh of relief and returned her gaze to Evelyn.
Kate smiled at the girl still not moving from her seat on the ground. She wasn’t exactly sure what she should be doing right now. This was more than a little awkward thanks to their last encounter. “I keep asking the curator if there is anything else that you need and she keeps telling me no. Personally I can’t wait till the renovations are over. I want the museum back to where it should be.” She sighed fondly at the thought of things back to normal. It had upset her so much when the attack had happened. She had immediately marched down here and handed them a check for one hundred thousand dollars telling them if they needed anything else let her know. This was her favorite place and it wasn’t aloud to end up falling apart.
Kate chuckled at the comment. The only other students of piano she really knew where the ones that were back at Julliard and those were her peers. They were also all paraprofessionals. They were studying to play piano for a living and therefore would more than likely take it far more serious than some student learning it to learn.
Her mind drifted for a moment to Jude. She wished he would take it that seriously. However she knew he never would. He didn’t see it as practical to play piano for anything more than his required grade. Maybe someday she would get through him. She won’t give in to him though.
Kate was lost for a moment but pulled herself back. “I wouldn’t really know. Jude is my only student. I suppose I could take on others if they wanted to learn but he is the only one that has ever asked.” She shrugged not really having ever thought about it before.
>>>>>Seems like everybody's got a little darkness in their life.
He truly had no idea how right he was. Kate let out a little sigh as she started getting ready to leave and lock up the room. “Around here it is hard not to have darkness. Not in the world we live in. So much hate.”
>>>>>Why don't you compose? I hear you play. Your fingers are magical.
Kate chuckled at his words. She couldn’t say she ever thought of her fingers as magical. “Never really tried to compose.” She shrugged and turned to look back at him, “You know you could have magical fingers too with the right amount of practice.” She smiled at him knowing she would probably get a smart remark for that but not really caring.
>>>>>Well with the riots and the fact that I haven’t been home in a few months, I mean I have been a little busy. Getting that me time in.
Kate rolled her eyes as he commented on her life in his explanation. She often liked being busy. Sure it got tiring at times but she liked it and no matter what he thought she was okay with it.
>>>>>Ladies and Gentlemen of Macy’s! Lady Kate
Her eyes widened as she tried to duck her head a little. Not only was he being ridiculous but he had a terrible accent. Is that what he thought she sounded like? He was being kind of a jerk, well more so then usual. He had no right to be upset with her for being upset. She was worried about him and her anger was completely justified.
>>>>>What do you think? Is it just me or what?
Kate caught the sheet set and looked down at it. It was simple and blue. Nothing really remarkable about it. She looked up at him and gave him a polite smile, “I said you could get whatever you want Sam. If this is what you want that is fine.”
Kate smiled happy he had learned a lesson today. Gawain was sweet and amazing but kind of stupid at the same time. After time they were no longer the center of attention and she couldn’t have been happier. She hated being the center of attention most of the time. She didn’t mind it if she had to be but she preferred to not.
As he talked about her ‘perfect’ boyfriend her smile faded. “He isn’t as perfect as he seems.” She shouldn’t have said it but it slipped out and before she knew it it was out in the world and there was nothing she could do about it. She looked away from him worried about what he would say and what he would think she meant. She kind of hoped he would let it go but she knew he wouldn’t.
Kate smiled kindly at the poor tired boy. She knew that he would be done soon. She put her hand on his back and leaned forward to see more of his face. “If you want to stop we can. You know you decide how long you want to play for.”
>>>>>Kate, you're an artist. Does that mean you're tortured? You don't go out looking for trouble, do you? Something to inspire a song or something?
She rose from her seat and started to pack up her iPad as he spoke to her. She nodded her head with a smile as she was a artist in a way. But as she spoke she froze and her smile faded. She looked into his brown eyes and said nothing. She could be thought of as tortured. She had seen her share of bad things, but she was privileged and rich and all these things that made her not really allowed to be tortured. “I well… I guess I am a bit. But I’m not a composer.” She looked away from him not really wanting to talk about this as her mom and her dad and everything else that went through her life filled her mind.
Kate let her mind wander in the silence. She really did need some me time in all honesty. She hadn’t taken a break in over a year and it was starting to take a toll. Every person needed a little time to themselves every once in a while. Kate was starting to forget what it meant to relax. She leaned on her hand and looked out the window. Maybe she needed an assistant or something. Btu she loved all the things she did. She wasn’t sure if she could give any of them up for someone else to take care of.
As the car came to a halt Kate was not at all surprised that Sam chose to let himself out. She however waited patiently and thanked her driver as he helped her out. It was always funny going to a place like Macy’s where tourists would look at people like her getting out of a fancy car and be curious as to who she was. She just hoped that Sam didn’t do something stupid and embarrass her in his current state.
“Why do I think it has been a while since you have done much?” she smiled walking past him and through the doors into Macy’s. She didn’t even look back at him to see if he was following as she started making her way to the bedding section. They were there for a reason and with Sam as she was she wanted to get in and out.
>>>>>That's quite alright, To be fair I have only been a formal student for a couple of months, I have been at the mansion for around a year though.
Kate tried to focus in and remember the girls face but couldn’t. She must have come as Kate left. They had passed in the night and never met. Good thing they were meeting now. Kate would never know all the students anymore but she liked to know some of them if she could. Maybe she could get information out of them on the one she was here to see if she was lucky.
>>>>>So, if you don't mind me asking, were you a student here previously?
Kate laughed at the question not even thinking about the fact that the girl was probably wondering about her just as much as she was wondering about the student. “I was once, but I started to college about 2 and a half years ago and moved out shortly after. I come back to visit my friends who still live here and to teach piano.” She really only had one piano student but she was still coming to teach. This place was a big part of her and she would never really stop coming here. In a way none of it’s students would.
Kate sighed deeply as she flipped through the score to the page she had left off on. Pulling out a pencil she immediately jumped right into making notes. It was a little hard to write so she found herself sliding onto the floor to use the bench as a table for writing on. It was an odd place to be caught in but the museum tended to be empty on a random weekday since the attack. Everyone was waiting till it was fixed or was a little to scared to go near it yet. It was interesting how one little thing could change a place so much.
Kate let out a small gasp as she heard a familiar voice off to her left. She looked and saw a pretty blonde. She smiled kindly even though she was a little unhappy to be disturbed. But this was Mirror’s girlfriend and the last time they saw each other things hadn’t gone well. She had kind of forgotten that she worked here when she had chosen it as a place to hide. They however needed to clear the air and this was probably as good of a time as any.
“Hello Evelyn. It’s good to see you. I will be happy when this place is back to normal. Though I am rather enjoying the less tourist traffic.” Kate didn’t move yet not sure if they were going to just say hi or if this was going to branch into a real conversation.
Kate gasped as she turned to the source of sudden noise. Her hands instinctively raised in front of her and a fireball came flying at the man before her. Her eyes widened as she reached out and closed her hand into a tight fist, extinguishing the bright white flame that was only a foot away from hitting the handsome dark haired hero. She had access to this room because she was a fire user and needed it for times like this. And as far as she knew she was still the only one in the mansion. So that meant that this man was an X-Man, the only people she knew of that had access to the room without needing to be accompanied.
So his name was Streak. It sounded familiar but it wasn’t one she knew off the top of her head. Probably something she heard mentioned in hall or from Sam or Mirror. “Um… I suppose not, but I’m not really doing training. I’m...” Just as she was about to explain an object came flying at her and almost hit her in the head. She screamed as she ducked out of the way. Looking over it appeared to be a large metal ball of some kind. “What in the…” she looked at the man confused, “what did you do?”
Kate started to bob and weave not really sure what to do and not really wanting to unleash any fire in here with this other man. She wasn’t sure exactly how much this metal form could take.
Kate smiled kindly bobbing her head to Jude’s chosen tempo with her lips tightly squished together. The biggest problem with having perfect pitch is that when someone makes a mistake it is much like nails on a chalk board. But still she found a way to listen and teach Jude without needing to march away. She would occasionally cringe but she understood that he was learning and wouldn’t always get everything right.
As the piece progressed she could hear his struggle in the keys. His speed became erratic and his hands slipped as he became more and more lost.
>>>>I think Chopin has issues.
Kate laughed and looked over at the boy. “That was really very good for a first try Jude. The piece is hard. It is meant to help you learn. And I think every great composer has issues. They have to get inspiration from somewhere after all.” She looked over at the time. They had never really had a set hour or whatever it was. She didn’t charge his mother for the lessons and didn’t see a point in setting rules to them. Unless she had something to do she didn’t mind sitting here with him until he wanted to call it quits. Something she could always tell by his loss of focus. “Lets try it slowly with the right hand only.”
Kate smiled at the woman trying to let her know that it was really okay. “Are you one of the students?” Of course she was one of the students that was a silly question. Why was Kate being so awkward all of a sudden. She is always so good in social situations, but she had been taken so off guard by the other brit she wasn’t sure what to do really. “Oh that is silly of course you are a student. I haven’t lived here in so long that I just don’t recognize faces anymore.”
Kate’s mind raced a bit as she thought about it. It had been almost 1 and a half years since she had been a mansion resident. She wondered who had the pleasure of her room. She hoped the treated it with respect and she hoped that it was helping with their mutation too.
