The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kate smiled at him as she led her onto the dance floor. Gawain had always been so good at dancing. She wrapped her hand under his arm on around his back to rest her hand on his shoulder, their bodies rather close so they could talk in hushed tones. For all of Gawain’s faults and all the times he was very unobservant or stupid he was actually quite brilliant.
>>>>>You are not alone Kate. I'm here, and your friends at the Mansion are here, and I'd wager some of the people here actually like you. And then there is Prince Charming. He'd better be all there for ya, or we're gonna have a serious problem...
Kate smiled at first thinking of all the people in her life, but as he brought up Albert her smile faded. She wished she could say she was all there, but it wasn’t true and the events of the night had reminded her of that. “I just wish I saw you all more. I see Sam often but that is cause I worry about him and what is happening to him. And our visits aren’t the same. They aren’t’ always pleasant or kind. The other friends I have at the mansion I never see. And you I only see every few weeks if that. I spend all my time in class or working on a project or going to these. I miss having fun.” she hadn’t spoken of Albert because she was afraid of what her old friend would say. She was scared he would scold her and she didn’t want to be scolded.
Kate sighed knowing she never should have brought him. It seemed like a great idea but this wasn’t his world and he never would get how to fit into it. She wasn’t mad or ever disappointed in anyone other than herself. She had picked the life she led and for her there was no getting away from it.
>>>>>Kate? Princess, c'mon. I'm really sorry. I'll make it up to you. Just tell me what to do.
Kate smiled again and moved to stand between Gawain and the crowd, taking his hands in hers. “Gawain I’m not angry or upset at you at all.” She looked down at her feet and their hands, “I’m just… I don’t know. Lonely.” This wasn’t really the place to have this conversation but in a way Kate needed to have it or she was going to burst.
>>>>>Blindly following orders. Evelyn knocked herself out, probably with a playback. She clearly wanted me to stay. She's already gonna have my ass for the mess I created, no need to double it up.
Kate’s smile wasn’t exactly happy. It was rather sad if you looked at her eyes. She had been the second choice forced on him because his girlfriend told him so. Gawain wasn’t there because he wanted to be and in a way it stung.
>>>>>So, I guess I am still your date for tonight, if you're okay with that.
“I guess.” She didn’t even look at him as she spoke looking around the room.
Kate entered back into the room full of guests. She sighed and put on that smile she wears when she wants to fool everyone. The one that for the trained eye lets you know she doesn’t want to be somewhere.
She made her way through the crowd fielding questions after question about what had happened to the waitress and her date. At first she didn’t know what to say but the best thing to tell was the truth. Or at least part of it. She told them each that Gawain was off saving the day.
Kate finally came to settle into a corner of the room only really fielding question when someone would come over to her.
>>>>>I'm... terribly sorry about that, Kate. That was all my fault. I hope I can make it up to you somehow.
“Gawain what are you doing here?” She was more than a little surprised. He had been so adamant on leaving with Evelyn.
Kate rolled her eyes at the silliness and childishness that was Sam Johnson. She hated being called that and he knew it. However she wasn’t going to let him have the satisfaction of getting a reaction. She crossed her legs and looked out the window as the door was closed and David made his way around to get back into the already on car.
“Yes.” She watched as the car began moving and the mansion faded away. She was only half listening to Sam as she knew he was making fun of her but somehow the word bar stuck out in her mind and she couldn’t’ help but react as her blood started to boil once again, “No there is not.” She looked over at him with anger in her eyes, “And mark my words if you drink anything more then you already have while you are out with me. I am going to have David drive us to New Jersey and leave you there.” She let out an exasperated huff and looked forward, “We are going out in public and you can’t even have the decency to think that maybe drinking isn’t the best idea right now.” She took a few deep breaths as she continued to listen to his words.
>>>>>So let me get this straight princess, you have a limo, a personal driver, a prince to spoil you rotten and you are still too busy to learn how to drive? Where we going anyways?
She took a deep breath making sure to calm herself completely before she spoke again, “We’re going to Macy’s.” She didn’t look at him though. She was still more angry then she wanted to admit. She looked back out the window watching the city change around them as they moved through the various parts of Manhattan.
>>>>>Why have you been so busy?”
Kate immediately looked at Sam as the words registered to her. There was something different about the question. He wasn’t joking or making fun of her he actually wanted to know. He almost seemed a little concerned or at least like he wanted to know. “Um… I am doing school full time and then there is my various charities and obligations with a number of organizations and then lessons with Jude and assisting the Julliard Orchestra Conductor I guess I just don’t’ really have time for much anymore.” She hadn’t really thought about it until now but even though he hadn’t really been around she had still neglected him when he was. She knew he was there for her but was she really being there for him.
Kate loved the MET. She had chosen it as a large recipient of her donations over the years because it’s quiet halls full of beauty had become some kind of refuge for the girl when she needed an escape. Yes it closed and wasn’t always there but when it was it was the only place she wanted to be when she needed a breather from life. A good portion of her friends used the beauty of central park to work on their various musical projects. Kate chose the MET.
She navigated the damaged halls with ease. Showing a bit of a sad expression as she passed each fallen landmark along her way. She would have to talk to the curator about how funds were going on the restoral when she got the chance. She had a little left in her budget for charitable donations left and she wanted to make sure that the MET got it if they needed it.
She turned corner after corner feeling the presence behind her but not daring to look back at it. She hoped it was not another snake following her through the halls of her sacred place.
Kate entered into the medieval wing and headed straight for the old monastery display. She would hide in the balcony portion and work on the last bits of the musical score she had been told to transcribe.
As she walked up the stairs to her hiding spot she reached into her bag and pulled out a notebook of stave paper and the score itself. She smiled as the bench came into view and she parked herself on it.
>>>>>I'm sorry for messing things up this bad. I really wanted this to go well for you. I'm just... not great escort material I guess.
Kate smiled at her friend, her face showing nothing but kindness and caring for him and his fallen girlfriend. She wasn’t happy about going back to the party by herself but she at least had the excuse of a passed out girl and the curator to back her up on that one. “It’s alright. I am sorry that I put you in this situation. Please make sure that she is okay.” She indicated to Evelyn as she watched Gawain and the curator walk away from her.
She took one final deep breath as they turned the corner and disappeared. She grabbed her purse and her phone and began the long walk back to the party alone. She looked down at the picture of her and Albert on her phone once more before pulling up her texts and sending one simple message, ‘Have I told you lately that I miss you?’ It was silly and she knew it was about 2 in the morning and she wouldn’t be getting a reply but she wanted to talk to him so badly that she didn’t care. Most would say that she should leave him but she couldn’t help it. She loved him and there was no stopping it.
Kate seemed to walk as slowly as she could not really wanting to go back but knowing she had to.
Kate couldn’t help but smile at Evelyn’s kindness. She was right that it mattered to Kate. It had to matter to her. If she was going down the road she was going on it would matter to her for the rest of her life and little things make a difference. However, she wasn’t going to let the girl be cast aside like that. She had been wrong with her inisial thoughts. She shouldn’t have called Evelyn what she did and she shouldn’t have thought to even treat her like that. She has been so worried with the way she looks to others and the way she looked to Albert’s mother she didn’t even think about Evelyn and her feelings for a second. Yes she had thought that it would hurt her but for some reason she said it anyway.
Kate stood meaning to say something as someone knocked on the door and Evelyn seemed to pass out out of no where. Her eyes went wide and she moved out of the way walking to open the door as Gawain placed the other blonde girl on the couch. She opened the door and smiled at the curator’s concerned face. “Everything is alright. Evelyn just had a bit of a fainting spell. I have a feeling it was related to why she ended up knocking over the vase. If you wouldn’t mind terribly could we used the back entrance to get her home. She is a friend of ours and we wouldn’t want something to happen to her in such a state.” Kate knew that wasn’t the real story but this woman didn’t need to know that. The curator didn’t need to know what was really going on or who this girl was to her and her companion.
“Um…” the curator tried to peek around the door but was blocked by Kate. She looked into the young woman’s face and sighed exasperated knowing what she had to do. Kate was one of their larger donors after all and the museum needed those funds. “Yes of course you can.” She smiled politely as Kate let her into the office.
“Gawain I think it is time to go. The curator is going to take you out the back so you can take Evelyn home.” Kate smiled weakly knowing she was going to end up going back alone anyway as she opened her phone and began to send a text to David. He would have expected for them to be out much later but unfortunately things didn’t work out as planed. She told him to come to the loading dock as the curator got ready to lead them away.
Kate took a deep breath and looked away from the pair. She smiled sadly and moved to sit back down on the couch. She hated to say it but somehow this conversation had just reminded her of so many things she hated to think about. “You’re right.” Her voice was quieter than before as she thought of what to do for herself so her friend and his girlfriend could do what was right. “I’m sorry to ask such things. This is my world not yours.” She smiled at them but the smile never really reached her eyes. She knew that Gawain may see through her mask but she hoped he would leave it alone.
“If you wouldn’t mind terribly could you tell the curator that I am going to use her office for the rest of the evening.” Kate reached over to the small bag next to her and pulled out her phone. She went to unlock it and paused at the picture of her and Albie that was the unlock screen. She sighed deeply before unlocking it and opening her texts.
Kate looked up at Gawain with surprise. She had stayed because it as the thing that needed to be done in this situation. She couldn’t risk leaving Gawain in this room and returning to the party alone. She however hadn’t really thought about what to do next.
She looked to Evelyn with concern in her eyes. She didn’t want to offend the girl and upset her more but the best course of action was probably going to do just that. Over the years Kate had to learn that what is right for public opinion and appearances wasn’t always what felt right.
She took a deep breath, “Well the best course would be for you and me to return to the party together. With Evelyn in tow of course.” She stood and moved stand by the other girl, “I’m sorry I know that isn’t’ what you want but it is the only thing that isn’t’ going to end in whispered scandal. If I return on Gawain’s arm just as I left it looks like the two of us took it upon ourselves to help a girl who cut her hand. It doesn’t look like what it is.” She turned to look between both of them, “Unfortunately the best PR move isnt’ always the nicest for everyone in question.”
Kate waited for them to react hoping that they would agree with her. She had a lot to lose in all of this and it wasn’t something she was willing to give up.
Kate pulled out some alcohol and swabs to clean the wound on Evelyn’s hands. Choosing to let the couple talk as she got to work on wrapping it and making sure that there was no major damage. Kate’s powers had kind of forced her to learn this. She had burned enough people to know basic first aid which came in handy more often then she would like to admit.
Once she had wrapped the wound she released Evelyn’s hand and moved to sit at the couch in the room. She had an opinion about the situation but this was not her time to speak. Not yet anyway.
Kate’s eyes narrowed as she listened to Gawain’s explination of what he was doing it. It was obvious to her that he hadn’t even thought to tell his girlfriend that he was bringing another girl to a gala charity event. It was almost ridiculous to think that he wouldn’t’ do such a thing. The first thing she had done after he had offered was call Alfred and ask him if he was okay with it. He had made a joke about his mother not liking it and gave her his blessing. You would think that Gawain would have done the same.
Kate turned to look into the crowed and raised her hand as soon as she saw who she was looking for, “Madam Curator?”
The woman in question seemed startled at the idea that Kate was going to ask her for something as she rushed over, “Yes Countess?”
“Oh please do call me Katherine.” Kate’s face both showed her kindness and her genuine concern as she spoke to the older woman, “If you wouldn’t mind could we use your office? Evelyn has hurt her hand and I am sure she would love some privacy after such a moment.”
She was taken a back by the question and looked over to Evelyn and then back to Kate, “Oh! Of course you can. Follow me.”
The woman led the way through the halls to a large wood door that led into a rather nice and comfortable office. She moved to her desk and pulled out the first aid kit. However before she had a chance to do anything further Kate spoke up, “Thank you. We can take it from here. I know you need to get back to the gala after all.”
The woman paused unsure of what to do before sheepishly agreeing and ushering herself out of the room.
Kate’s smile faded as she closed the door and looked to Gawain, “You really are never going to learn how to have a real adult relationship are you? The first thing I did after you offered to take me was call Albert and see if he was alright with it. You should know by now that my picture has a way of ending up in papers and magazines whether I like it or not. And then there is the fact that you are you.” Kate moved across the room to stand in front of the first aid kit before looking to Evelyn with kindness and sympathy. “May I please see your hand? I know I am probably not the person you want helping you but I want to try.” Kate offered her own hand in hopes that Evelyn would let her help. She felt so bad about this whole thing and wanted to do her best to make it up to the blonde.
Kate’s head shot in the direction of the noise. Evelyn? She felt Gawain pull away with curiosity. Was this the girlfriend he was talking about earlier? She followed her friend across the room and stood behind him as he helped the girl. She looked around for one of the cater waiters and directed them to call someone and get a broom. This needed to get cleaned up in order for the party to continue and standing around gawking at it was going to do no good.
She moved to kneel next to the two making sure to not get her dress wet. She smiled kindly at Evelyn worried for the girls wellbeing and pride. “Are you alright?” As if on queue someone arrived with a mop to clean up the mess. “Why don’t we stand up and move out of the way.” She thanked the janitor as she stood taking a few steps away from the mess and waiting for Gawain and the girl to join her.
>>>>>>Now I just feel like I'm in a Jane Austin novel. Next you'll tell me another lady is planning to marry her daughter off to that rich old guy over there. And I'm the one named after a knight here.
Kate tried with all her might to hold in the giggles that Gawain was forcing her to have. However, she wasn’t doing a very good job of it, “Society really hasn’t’ changed much since then. If we were in England at a party in London you would be right. There would be people all around that want their children to marry up. Which is funny since titles don’t really mean anything anymore politically. We were stripped of a good portion of our power.”
She took another sip of drink and squeezed Gawain’s hand, “You are the only knight that matters.” She followed his gaze and looked about the room at the stares and whispers. She couldn’t help but giggle and look back at Gawain with fire in her eyes and a smirk on her face, “I almost feel like we should give them a show.”
>>>>> So, what is this event about anyway? Should I be BSing my way through a specific topic, or is it okay if I am just charming in general?
“You can just be your normal charming self. And honestly I usually get looks for my own high profile mutantness.” Kate sipped her own champagne still holding his hand and looking around the room. “However I think it will be my job tonight to be Albert. He is the one that always makes me laugh by making funny comments about the people around us.” She pointed with the hand that was holding her glass at a woman behind Gawain, “Like that is Lady Gray. She’s English like me and moved to the city when she got divorced. She has a puppy named Fredrick, whom she treats like a son. More so then she does her only son.” Kate smiled at Gawain hoping he would find it funny. She remembered when Albert had told her that one in London and she had to try not to burst out in giggles because they had been talking to the woman at the time. She had actually seen Kate’s distress and asked her if she was alright.
