The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gina turned quiet and Drew shot her a small smile. She was tagging along though Drew had no clue why. He led them all over the first floor, showing off each room in turn. All the while he spoke with Nate and answered his questions.
"As far as I know it the art teacher position is open. You'd have to ask the boss. I really just handle paper work and give tours."
He gave a sheepish smile to Nate. Yeah he worked here but Drew tried to avoid the kids and the schooling side of things. It just wasn't his thing. He had nothing worthwhile to teach the kids and had no interest in it besides. The questions about the X-Men took him by surprise but he rolled with it.
"Well we don't advertise it but we aren't hiding it either. Yeah, the X-Men have connections here."
And the fact that he was a stranger kept Drew from giving much information beyond that. Kealey hadn't told him about it when he'd first showed up and following that example there was no way he'd be telling Nate, an unproven stranger, much about it either. Drew wasn't given much time to think about it though. As he was finishing his response to Nate's question the man rambled out a sentence that made Drew's breath catch. He felt the connection. The promise was a valid one and Drew looked down to see the sign of the promise sweeping across his wrist. He swore under his breath.
"Well you wanted to know what my mutation is? Congratulations, you just found out."

It was indeed a small world. This one was already familiar with a number of the people that lived at the mansion. He'd mentioned work too so presumably he'd met some of the staff. If he ever chose to move in Nate would probably have a pretty easy time of it. Drew let himself smile a bit.
"Well if you drop by often enough sooner or later I'm sure you'll catch her while she's around."
Nate didn't seem all that disappointed about his refusal to give out his mutation. While he was undeniably proud to be a mutant Drew was also aware that his particular mutation put him in a very vulnerable spot no matter how much he'd improved his physique and fighting ability over time. Though Martin didn't seem like the type that liked to share his toys without his express consent so maybe there was hope in that if he ever ended up under the thumb of another master as well as Martin. Nate probably wasn't like that but...better safe than sorry. Acutely aware of the strips of black that stood exposed on his left arm Drew eyed Nate. He was tempted for a moment to explain that his mutation left him vulnerable. Very tempted. But caution, or paranoia, held his tongue.
"Yeah, staff members can live here if they choose. I do. It's not a requirement but the option is there."

Drew gave a chuckle.
"Oh when I met her she was fine with staying where it was safe. She only went into danger because I did. I fancied myself some kind of hero or protector back then. Still do a bit, just not as naive about it."
He thought about Aedus' offer to give Lydia his greetings while they approached the group slowly.
"Yeah, next time you see her just tell her that Drew said Hi. Anything else can wait until I see her again. If things go like they have in the past we'll bump into each other sooner or later. Probably when something dangerous is happening."
That thought was finished with a low chuckle. He and Lydia never seemed to escape any kind of meeting unscathed. They'd met under sniper fire and bonded with Spikes and a concert gone wrong. What would it be next time? A bomb? A radioactive mutant? The Blob?

He smiled slightly as he heard Gina's small utterance of yay. Gina's support of his commentary about the number of runaways was welcome. Hearing Nate mention meeting one of the students was unexpected but he did say he'd met a few workers and residents before.
"I know Agnes, though I dare say little gargoyle knows her better."
Nate's question about his mutation made Drew stop and think. He'd been given an out. He didn't have to answer if he didn't want to.
"I don't mind the askin' but I'd prefer not to answer on account of me not knowing you so well. You understand."
He might have shared immediately once upon a time. But that was before Martin. Drew was a bit more close-mouthed about it these days when he could be.

Left it was. Drew rambled onward, keeping his eyes peeled for trouble. Aedus' question caught him partially by surprise and Drew resisted a sigh as his hand rubbed the back of his neck
"Well we got into a few scrapes together. I guess you could say we are friends. Could've been more, maybe, once upon a time. Haven't seen her in a while. Your's is the first news I've had of her since I saw her last."
Drew spotted a few figures on the other side of the road a little ways away and kept his eyes on them as he spoke.
"Maybe it's silly but I thought I could protect her. Not that I was much good at it back then."
No, back then he'd been utterly useless. Drew wasn't sure whether his current state was even an improvement at all, given his record. Pretty much anyone he'd ever tried to help or protect had ended up relying on someone else.

His eyes widened as he watched the girl. Not from shock or fear. No, Drew had seen enough that her actions didn't even register a blip for those two emotions. More it was disbelief that the girl would go and do something so stupid as to get into a fight. In the mansion. With at least one X-Man. It was beyond stupid. Especially since they had a counselor that could negate her mutation just by standing near her. In fact, once Gawain had her settled in the mirror Drew couldn't help but laugh at her.
"Are you serious? Trying to pick a fight in the middle of this place?" a snort of amusement escaped him that he couldn't have stopped even if he wanted to, "You're either full of yourself or stupid. Maybe both."
Maybe he could have been a little nicer or tactful about that but that was a serious lack of foresight. Even he wouldn't have been that dumb and Drew had been pretty rash at times. He smirked over at Gawain.
"Quick thinking there Gawain."
With that all taken care of Drew turned to George who was introducing himself with a hand held out for shaking. He took the offered hand and gave it a shake.
"Andrew Leroy. Good to meet ya, Cafas."
That done, Drew slouched lazily against the door frame. The excitement was over for now.

Leading the way up into the streets Drew paid little attention to his compatriot until they were street level. Once there he took a quick glance around the area they'd emerged in.
"Well, all's quiet here. Gotta preference on direction?"
It was pretty quiet around them but New York generally had plenty to offer in the way of criminal scum. The two of them could find a few fights easily enough. Hopefully by the time they were finished Drew would be calmed down enough not to have to worry too much when he returned to the mansion. As it was he'd be explaining away bruises for the next several days. DocProf was a useful guy but Drew didn't want to visit him. He meant well and that was the problem for Drew at the moment.

Aedus shared his sentiments it seemed, though probably not for the same reason. It worked out well for Drew as the train slowed to a halt so he said nothing about the why.
"Then lets go find us some troublemakers huh?"
With a couple of idiot thugs and now this news about Lydia, Drew definitely needed the fight to unwind. Whether they would run into his sort of targets or not was the question. Cops could handle the human on human crimes. Those didn't matter to Drew. He was only out here fighting to protect mutants. Sure they had powers but that never seemed to stop humans from exploiting them or hating and hurting them. Frankly Drew had gotten sick and tired of it. There were other reasons. Ones he didn't want to admit. Painful twisted reasons that sounded like screams. They went unvoiced even in the confines of Drew's mind. He would not give them form or thought.
Drew stepped out into the subway station with a look of grim determination on his hood hidden features. The humans tonight had better beware. He was bound to be a bit more vicious tonight.

His sigh at the extra information about Lydia and her apparently horrible boyfriend could not be fully contained. Nor could the anger that he felt at that particular situation. Channeling it against some human or another would feel good. Besides, Drew didn't know Aedus well enough to trust him in a drinking situation.
"I'd rather hit someone than get drunk."
Alcohol shared with strangers led to very bad things. A shudder ran down Drew's spine as the memory wedged itself into his conscious mind for a moment along with all the confusing emotions that came with it. With the car slowing down Drew stood and adjusted his coat once again. Aedus did not need to see the bullet proof vest underneath it. The item in question was a newer addition to his evening outfit. He'd realized quickly enough that being what he was but without the added offensive or defensive capabilities of most mutants left him in need of something else. Something that could even the playing ground with the common human rabble. Now at least he had less to worry about should someone shoot at him.
"I'm sure there's still someone out whose night can get a little worse."

Aedus confirmed that it was indeed the Lydia he was thinking of. He'd almost hoped it was a different Lydia. His face twisted up into a ferocious expression.
"I know her...and if I ever meet the guy he won't be walking away."
In fact broken legs would be the least of the guy's worries.
"You said she left with him anyway? I thought she was smarter than that."
Lydia would be getting a few choice words too. That she would date someone like that spoke very poorly of the girl he'd come to know. Drew was glad to see Aedus seemed just as disgusted by it and protective as Drew felt.
"Well I'm not going home just yet. I'd end up scaring someone."

Hmm, Drew decided to keep silent about his reasons for interfering. He didn't want to get into another scrape so soon. Maybe in a few minutes. When Aedus commented on the fight being fun Drew nodded.
"Definitely. Sometimes you just need to beat someone up."
However his good mood vanished as Aedus related the events of his evening.
"Lydia? Brown hair, blue eyes? About five and a half feet?"
If it was the same Lydia then Drew was not a happy person. Even if the guy was an idiot that didn't make Drew any happier. He completely ignored Aedus' question about what he meant to do. It wasn't important in light of someone hurting one of his friends. Any good mood apparent on his face had vanished in light of that.

Drew gave a dismissive shrug.
"They're thugs and they think like it. If they had thought of sunglasses then they be too smart to be considered thugs." he added a smirk, "Though I'm glad they picked someone that could fight too. Makes fights much easier than they usually are."
Taking a seat, Drew stretched out his legs and relaxed.
"Ah, sorry about that. Didn't expect you get targeted. He got a few good licks in before I managed to get him squared away. Still, he and his buddy might think again before trying that again."
Drew grinned for a moment.
"Nice to meet you Aedus. Name's Jules."
He wasn't about to give out his first name. Jules was an acceptable version of his middle name and very few people knew that name.

Sam seemed content to let Drew be the important one for the evening. Drew gave the why a little thought but didn't come up with anything and gave. Sam and he were friends of a sort but hardly best buds. He turned a rueful smile on Sam as the other man slapped him on the back and tried to talk him up.
"Yeah well, what can I say? They have it tough enough just bein' kids. Might as well do what I can for 'em."
If Sam was going to make him seem like a teacher then Drew wasn't going to waste the man's chatter. Even if he never really wanted to be that responsible for kids. Sure he'd protect them from danger but teaching them? Guiding them in such a way that they can grow up and have their own lives? Frankly Drew figured his own life was enough of a mess, he didn't need to mess up some poor kid's. Nah, leave that to people much more qualified. His attention, aside from being on Mel, was turned instead to the two drinks in front of him instead of one. He raised an eyebrow at Sam but didn't complain. The guy was his boss after all and seemed to be paying for the evening.
He still took a drink of his beer first though. Boss or not Drew wanted that beer more than whatever that shot was.

One of his eyebrows raised involuntarily at Gina's description of the turkeys. Awesome? Really? Drew's nose wrinkled up in an expression of disgust. Things that tried to hurt you were not awesome. Not to Drew's way of thinking. Mittens certainly didn't qualify for that title and he'd almost made Drew into a paste.
"If you say so Gina..."
At her request to tag along Drew just grinned.
"Well I'm not stoppin' ya, little gargoyle."
Drew liked Gina, she was refreshingly sweet after all the crap he'd seen. It was easy to forget his own issues around the younger mutant. The new guy pulled Drew out of his musings with a question.
"Yeah, pretty much. Regular schooling combined with help controlling mutations. We get a fair number of runaways and such, as you can imagine, so it is by necessity free for them." Drew gave a self-deprecating chuckle, "Makes you wish you'd found the place earlier in life, huh?"

Giant demon turkeys? Sounded like a typical holiday for New York. They never seemed to pass quietly. Hearing that Gina had been involved in that little business worried Drew for all of a few seconds. She was here and unharmed some time later so it didn't matter.
"And thus I'm glad I ignore most holidays anymore. Giant demon turkeys would just ruin my day."
So new guy just wanted the tour. That was fine, it saved Drew some paperwork. Gina appeared to be sticking around as new guy opted to go inside.
"Yeah, it's too cold out here to do the grounds today but I try not to limit people." Drew gave a casual shrug and started the procession toward the doors, "Well the gates are always open, figuratively speaking."
Leaving Gina to answer for herself Drew led the way and held the door for the other two. He could still use those manners from time to time.
"Right, first stop the front door and foyer. This is floor one and has the classrooms and other features of the school side of the place as well as the kitchen, dining room, living room, garage access, and library."
