The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee didn't even really notice the frown on Tarin's face because first her shirt was in the way, and then she was already leaning down to kiss him again.
As her lips touched Tarin's lips again, Lee knew that this was exactly where they had been. A very wonderful, amazing feeling place as they kissed. Except a moment later, Tarin was moving, they were rolling. Somehow managing to roll them both so he was on top of her without breaking the kiss.
Lee took the opportunity to wrap her arms around Tarin, shuddering again as she felt his weight pressing against her.
But then Tarin broke the kiss to speak. Lee grinned up at Tarin. "Here is perfect," Lee breathed as her hand moved up Tarin's back and into his hair. Here, like this, was absolutely perfect.

It was quiet for a few moments after she thanked him for telling her how things were, had been, on the other side of the rift. That things really were as bad as she had heard about. It wasn't good news, it didn't make Lee feel better, but she preferred knowing rather than just hoping for something that wasn't true.
As they approached the next place where the path split, this Tarin slowed his pace. Lee slowed with him, looking at him questioningly until he explained this was where he turned.
"As soon as I get everything sorted out with the shop, I will," she told him with a nod. "It shouldn't take too long, I don't think. Hopefully Monday at the latest." And, while Lee didn't think it should take that long, the fact was the next day was a holiday, and she could only do so much on her own without hearing back from the lawyer.

After a little bit of time, Tarin's hands moved from tugging at and pulling up her shirt and went back into her hair. Lee shuddered slightly as she moaned into the kiss. Lee couldn't explain why it felt so good when Tarin did this, it just did.
The problem with not breaking the kiss when Tarin had been trying to pull her shirt off was that it was…kind of but not really off, which was not only uncomfortable, it was actually more annoying than the necessity of having to break the kiss.
Reluctantly, Lee pulled her other arm from around Tarin's neck before finally breaking the kiss and pushing herself up slightly. And very quickly pulling her shirt up over her head and tossing it somewhere away from them in the room.
"Now…where were we?" Lee asked, a smile on her face before leaning in to kiss Tarin again.

This time it was Tarin's turn to pull Lee to a stop. So Lee stopped, still holding Tarin's hand as he warned her that the spirits might not be very willing to help. "Even if we don't get much, some information is better than nothing," Lee told Tarin. Then left him to do his thing of talking to people who didn't appear to be present.
As she was waiting, Lee heard her name called out from across the street. It was such an unusual and unexpected thing that Lee actually turned to look.
And saw a couple familiar faces. Standing right outside the Haven building. This could be very good, Lee thought as she waved Quin and Will over to her side of the street. Being part of Haven, Quin might have more information about what they were up against so Lee could formulate some kind of plan.
Plus, it would be good knowing at least some of the others who were going to be at the museum with them.
Lee was quite surprised to see that Will was with Quin, though. Hadn't he said that he didn't know any other mutants?
Well, that could all be sorted out later. There were much more pressing concerns at the moment.
Seeing Quin starting to make her way over, Lee turned to look at Tarin when she heard him actually speaking to her rather than the spirits. "Hold on a sec," Lee said as she looked up at him. "I just saw someone who might know more, then we can all go."

It could be that bad, on the other side of the rift, if someone was flashy or drew the wrong attention. Lee simply nodded as she swallowed the lump that had appeared in her throat.
Tarin could definitely be flashy and draw attention, with the hair and tattoos. And he didn't exactly have a great track record of keeping the fact that he was a mutant a secret. But he didn't tend to go around using his powers in public.
But he also wasn't the one who had been caught during the Registration Act. Hopefully that meant that he would be alright. Even if she may never find out.
If Tarin wasn't already dead somewhere thanks to Rupert.
"Thank you," Lee said, still not looking over at him but keeping her eyes straight ahead. He could have lied to her, could have said that it really wasn't all that bad. Many people probably would have after seeing how she was outside the shop, after learning that her ex could very well be stuck over there.
But he hadn't. "Thank you for actually telling me the truth."

Tarin's reply that it was just faster to fall made Lee laugh again. That was true, they had hit the bed, with her on top of him, quite quickly after she'd started them moving again. And while it had been faster, and this time it hadn't been a problem, they probably should stop falling like this before one of them actually did get hurt.
At least that's what Lee would have been thinking if her mind was capable of that complex a thought at the moment. Tarin's chest, and his lips, and now his hands slipping under her shirt again and sliding up her back were far too distracting for real, rational thought.
And Lee was loving every moment. As always. Because, somehow, it did seem to keep getting better every time. Even it at the moment they were still only just kissing.
As Lee felt Tarin's hands sliding higher, felt the tugging against her shirt, Lee shifted and squirmed slightly to try and make it easier for Tarin to actually push her shirt off. Though at the moment she refused to break the kiss.

As Lee made her way back into the mansion, she felt Ashton following behind her. Not that Lee expected the floor plan to have changed that much. There was only so much that they could do with the danger room because of the size.
But then the strangest thing happened. Suddenly, the energy she was sensing from Ashton behind her was just…gone.
Lee knew that it wasn't because she had just stepped into an adapted's field because she could still feel the energy of people on the floor above them.
Just as suddenly, Lee saw Ashton walking in front of her. Interesting trick, Lee couldn't help but think.
Only then did Ashton answer her question about the floorplan. With a very uncertain answer. Well, maybe he hadn't been around for long before the need to rebuild.
"What kind of workout were you planning to do in there?" Lee asked after a few moments. "Powers, fitness, or combat?"

The bed wasn't far. That was the reason that Tarin had pulled her along to the bedroom in the first place.
What Lee hadn't been expecting was for Tarin to fall onto the bed, pulling her with him.
Lee couldn't help the slight giggle once they'd landed on the bed. "You just had to ask if you wanted me on top of you…" Lee mumbled against Tarin's lips, not pulling back to be able to speak clearly before she went back to kissing Tarin.
Slowly Lee pulled an arm out from behind Tarin's neck, placing her hand on Tarin's cheek.

Tarin did not look happy to be doing this. Hell, Lee wasn't happy to be doing this either. But Michael had both the X-Men and Haven working on this. And the security company Michael owned as well as other people who had been pulled in.
And if things were bad enough that with all those people Michael still felt that their help was needed, what choice did they really have?
But Tarin still said to lead the way. So Lee did, turning them in the opposite direction, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was a longer walk from the apartment than the shop was, but still less distance than they had travelled the day before. And at least today, there weren't people on the street trying to attack them.
They hadn't gone far when Lee felt Tarin's hand clasp hers. Looking up at him as they walked, Lee gave him a small, tight lipped smile.
If only they knew what they were going to find when they got there. Lee didn't even know who else was going to be there. All Michael had really said was they needed to get the ankh away from the mystic, and that there were others, X-Men, on their way. She didn't even know who.
If Michael had given her a little more information, Lee might be able to come up with some sort of plan before they got there. Being dumped head first into a bad situation was bad enough, but walking in blind like this, Lee had more than enough time to worry about not having a plan.
Except that they hadn't been blindly walking around corners yesterday. Turning to look at Tarin again, Lee squeezed his hand slightly. "Do you think you can find out what's happening at the museum?" Lee asked.

Lee was looking up at Tarin as her hands moved up his torso, so she did not see the goosebumps appearing. But she could feel the shiver. As well as the muscles under her hands.
Then Tarin was reaching out himself, and as he pulled her close once again, Lee let her hands move higher and wrapped her arms around Tarin's neck as he leaned in to kiss her.
This might be the exact same thing that they had been doing in the kitchen, but it was so much better because Tarin's shirt was no longer in the way. Plus the knowledge that the bed wasn't far off.
Speaking of, Lee took a small step, then another in that direction, gently pulling Tarin along with her.

This was like the fight at the pharmaceutical company. Like Florida.
Like Romania.
Lee was being asked to head straight into a dangerous situation that really didn't involve her. At least not directly.
Michael had said that the X-Men and Haven, as well as others, were being pulled in to deal with this mystic and what she was trying to do.
Yet Michael had still called to ask her to help with this. Knowing that Lee had stepped away from Haven six years earlier to avoid this kind of danger because of Kevin.
Tarin was stressing that she didn't need to do this. But that, no matter what she decided, that he would be with her.
And after everything that had happened the day before, Lee knew that better than ever.
There was a definite part of Lee that wanted to just forget the phone call and continue on to the shop. There was enough to do there, after more than enough craziness in her life than she wanted.
But at the same time, what if things ended up getting even worse because she, because they, didn't help? If all of this spilled over to the mansion.
If Kevin got hurt because of all of this, and she had done nothing?
"I think we do need to go, though," Lee said as she looked up at Tarin. "If it ends up being too bad, or too dangerous, we can leave and get Kevin if we need to."

In a way, it felt so long ago that they had first stood here, in this room, almost exactly as they were now.
So long ago, but really just a few months. At the time, Lee had not let herself even think that she was developing feelings for Tarin. They'd really only known each other for a week at that point.
But as the anger waned that had driven her into the room, she had realized that Tarin wasn't wearing a shirt. Things had grown tense in a very different way, and if Tarin hadn't stepped back, if she hadn't left the room when she had, things quickly would have escalated.
And possibly have not worked out as well as they had.
This time, Lee didn't have to hold herself back, and she reached her hands out the small distance and placed them on Tarin's abs before running them up his chest.
,"Well, this is definitely a good start," Lee said softly as she took a tiny step closer, looking up at Tarin.
The day before had been…well, the word that should be used to describe the day was unbelievable, but Lee had lived through so many 'unbelievable days' that the words had kind of lost meaning.
But rather than a nice lunch together at the Chinese restaurant, Lee and Tarin had had to literally fight their way back to the shop. Fought their way to the point that Lee had punched someone through the shop window and felt the need to actually use the panic door that she'd had installed there over a decade earlier.
It had been widespread. Mutants and humans attacking and looting. And for no cause or reason as fat as Lee could tell.
But that morning things seemed like they had calmed down for the most part. Which was very good, because while the panic door would have protected the back of the shop, with the broken window, the front wouldn't be so lucky. There was cleaning and repairs in hers and Tarin's future.
Which is why Lee was actually wearing jeans and shoes with no heels as they made their way through the streets toward the shop.
At least there shouldn't be blood to clean up this time. Unless the window cut the guy when he went through it.
They were about halfway to the shop when Lee's phone rang. Pulling it out, Lee was confused to see that it was Micheal. "Hello?" she said.
After a couple moments listening, Lee touched Tarin's arm as she stopped walking. "Hold on. Cut the jargon. What's happening?"
As Michael spoke, Lee's eyes widened slightly in surprise before growing worried.
And then Michael hung up. Lee stared at the phone for a moment before looking up at Tarin. "That was Michael," she said. "That mystic, she did it apparently. Michael's going to go deal with an even bigger threat, but asked us to go get the ankh from the mystic."

They weren't running to the bedroom, but they were definitely moving faster than they generally walked together. Lee had to smile at that. Not that she had doubted it, not after everything over the last few months, but it was good to know that Tarin was just as eager to get into the bedroom as she was.
Then Tarin was actually pulling her through the doorway, and Lee just grinned.
This was so much better. They were in the bedroom now, the bed was right there. As Tarin dropped her hand, Lee started stepping closer to him.
But stopped as she saw him pulling his shirt off. Instead, Lee just stood there watching him, her bottom lip suddenly between her teeth. She hadn't been exaggerating earlier. She really was very grateful for all the years he'd worked out.
When Tarin spoke, Lee dragged her eyes up to his face and smiled. "We did," she agreed softly. "Now what should we do?"

Tarin was trying to figure that out? Right, because it never worked well when they tried moving far like this. There were varying degrees of bad that happened when they tried, like both of them literally falling through the bedroom door, but it was never good.
But that would mean moving further away than they currently were, which was not far apart, and Lee didn't particularly like that idea at the moment either.
For them to leave the kitchen, it was going to have to be one or the other; some temporary separation or risk injury to leave the kitchen.
It seemed that Tarin had come to a decision on that as he stepped back further. And pulled his hands out from under the back of her shirt. Slowly, Lee let her hand slide out of Tarin's hair as he grabbed her other hand and started pulling her out of the kitchen.
The walk to Tarin's room (or was it simply their room at this point?) was not long, but at the same time felt like it took forever because all Lee wanted to do was feel Tarin. But the only contact she had while they were walking was the hand Tarin held. The only point of contact energy was flowing through.
That was something that Lee needed to stop. She did want to leave Tarin's side until absolutely necessary the next morning, and she would not be able to stay in bed overnight if she continued siphoning.
