The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When she had said they could just keep this movie as unwatched, it had simply been an offhand comment. Lee hadn’t really thought it would amount to much, not with how everything had been since Tarin had gotten home.
That thought was quickly corrected in her mind when Lee saw the smile on Tarin’s face when he looked at her.
Yeah, this movie was definitely not getting watched. And most likely nothing was going to actually be watched in their apartment that night.
And Lee was completely ok with that, she thought, as she looked at Tarin smiling back at her. A sentiment that Tarin voiced a moment later, which only caused Lee to smile wider as she saw him leaning in for another kiss.
Lee didn’t let this kiss end so quickly, though, as she raised a hand up to rest on Tarin’s shoulder.

It seemed that Tarin was also of the opinion that the movie was not meant for them to watch it. Apparently, the universe was telling them that. Which was a possibility.
Or they were just having bad luck with actually being able to pay attention to the movie the whole way through.
”That certainly is one option,” Lee replied when Tarin asked if they should see if there was anything else on. Between what was on TV and what they could find streaming, there was bound to be at least something that would interest them.
”Or we could continue letting this movie be unwatched,” Lee continued with a smile.

Lee laughed when she saw Tarin’s grin at her comment that he knew how to treat a woman. ” Yes, you do,” she informed him before leading in and giving him a kiss. ”Quite well, actually.”
When Tarin spoke again, Lee turned to look at the TV. And, she did not remember this part of the movie at all. Actually, not only that but Lee wasn’t even entirely sure what was happening in the movie at the moment. ”It does seem that way, doesn’t it?” Lee asked as she turned to look back at Tarin. ”Maybe that means we should stop trying to?”

It was easy for Lee to second guess herself on whether she’d done enough to teach Kevin, if she’d done the right thing in how she taught him. And even though he was only 13, so in a lot of ways she still had a lot of time to teach him, he was also about to head to the mansion which meant in other ways that he was also about to be on his own.
But hearing Tarn tell her that Kevin had good instincts was reassuring. It wasn’t something that her siblings or Matt could truly answer for her. And neither could any of Kevin’s teachers, not in the way that Lee needed that question to be answered.
Though Tarin did question Kevin’s instincts since he had asked Tarin for dating advice. But at least he was laughing about it. ”I don’t know,” Lee mused as she looked at Tarin before giving a small shrug. ”You’ve done pretty well so far even if you didn’t have a lot of experience. And you certainly know how to treat a woman properly.”

Ok, so Lee had been wrong in thinking that Tarin wouldn't have asked his mother. But it was nice that she had helped, it possibly fully arranged that date for Tarin. Lee just wished he had had a bit more of that normalcy when he had been a kid.
”Well, I know I never would have,” Lee said, shaking her head. ”Neither my mum or dad. They were parents. Anything they might have known about dating I thought was ancient.”
Shaking her head again, Lee laughed softly. ”I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin thinks the same, to be honest.”
Tarin went on, commenting how she gave Kevin his space, and she smiled at him. ”It would be nice if he does. Hopefully it'll never be to the extent we had to, but he's going to have to be able to trust his guts and decisions about people and situations. So I've tried to let him learn to do that in smaller, safer circumstances.”

”Well, what I was able to hear, it sounded like you gave some decent advice,” Lee told Tarin. And it really had, at least from the one side of the conversation she had been able to hear. Though, Lee had never really dated conventionally.
Then Tarin asked why Kevin hadn’t asked her for advice, and Lee couldn’t help a slight laugh. ”Honestly? Who knows,” Lee said with a shrug. Then listed off a few reasons. ”I’m his mum so it’d be weird? Or that means I wouldn’t know what I’m talking about? I’m not a guy?
“There’s things that Kevin has no problems asking me for advice about,” Lee continued as she looked up at Tarin beside her. ”And then there’s other things that he avoids around me like the plague. That’s part of why, even when he’s being an ass, Robert’s had those ‘guy days’ with Kevin. Would you have asked your mom about girls at Kevin’s age?”

Lee’s smile widened as she stood there and heard Tarin’s side of the conversation. It was sweet, and cute, and in a way slightly sad. When had Kevin grown up so much? Powers and noticing how others are feeling and liking girls.
He definitely wasn’t her baby boy any more.
”I hope so. Later, Tarin.”
Once Lee saw that the conversation was over, she made her way back to the couch and sat down beside Tarin once more. ”That is not the conversation I thought Kevin was wanting, but it sounded like it went well?”

As Lee moved to the opposite side of the path, she noticed something odd; the figure ahead of her had turned to look over their shoulder, to look back at her. Not that it was odd on and off itself that someone was looking at her as she ran. But in the dark, Lee had only just gotten close enough to see that the figure was a man.
How had he known to look back, unless it was something he did normally whether someone was behind him out not? Lee knew that she didn't make that much noise as she ran, no more than the average person. So she didn't think that he would have heard her, not at that distance.
Whatever, Lee thought as she continued running, the distance between her and the man ahead closing. It was probably just a coincidence she was thinking too much into, she decided as she watched the man move closer to the other side of the path, leaving the most space between them without stepping into the grass.
But the closer that Lee got to the man, the slower the remaining space between them was disappearing. He was speeding up as she approached.
Speeding up without looking back at her again. Yet by the time she managed to come up beside him, the man was running at the same pace that she was. All without him looking back again, without him seeing where she was.
Unless he had eyes in the back of his head.
It was unexpected enough that as Lee came up beside the man, she looked over at him with cautious curiosity. To see him looking over at her and giving a nod.
The few runners that Lee normally came across at night tended to keep completely to themselves. That was normally much later at night, though.
And he was still keeping pace with her. Impressive, as it looked like he had already been out for a normal length ‘while’.
So Lee gave a nod back, curious about how long this person was going to be able to keep up with her.

”We’re already friends,” Kevin said before hesitating again. Or just thinking for a few moments. ”But it does sound a lot better and makes more sense than what Uncle Robert said. Thanks Tarin.”
It really didn't take long for Lee to get the Chinese food into the fridge, and as she made her way back to the living room she saw that Tarin was still on the phone. Stopping beside the dining table, Lee stood with a small smile on her face, giving the conversation some space.

Lee wasn’t able to make out what Kevin had said about this mysterious girl he apparently liked, but she couldn’t help the smile from appearing on her face when she heard Tarin say that she sounded great.
Turning back to the food in front of her, Lee started to gather and pick everything up as Tarin continued speaking. For a man who had probably never expected to have this conversation, he seemed to be doing a decent job, so Lee got up to take the leftover Chinese to the kitchen.
”That…ok,” Kevin said slowly, though it was more thoughtful and less hesitant this time. ”Do you think that will work, Tarin?”

Lee was trying to not listen to the conversation, but she couldn’t help but notice that there was silence after Tarin had asked what was up. Then, after she heard her son’s voice over the phone, though not the words themselves, Tarin was silent. That was definitely not what Lee was expecting. Why was there so much quiet on the phone? It was just a question about baseball.
Except, apparently it wasn’t, Lee realized when she finally heard Tarin speak. ‘What did he like about her?’ Lee turned a curious, questioning look at Tarin, though she didn’t say anything.
”Oh, well,” Kevin said, his voice sounding hesitant again. Then after an audible breath, he plunged in again. ”She’s really smart, and she rides horses really well. She thinks it’s cool that I’ve got my powers now. And she’s got these cute freckles on her nose.” If possible, it was probably evident in Kevin’s voice that he was blushing as he spoke.

Even though it would have made much more sense for Kevin to have asked Josh his baseball question, or even Ash or Adele, Lee thought that it was sweet and cute that Kevin wanted to ask Tarin.
Tarin on the other hand just simply looked confused. He did, however, take the phone from her and start talking to Kevin. Considering the fact that Kevin had declined to let her pass the question on to Tarin, Lee decided to use the time to pack away the take-out so that she wasn’t just sitting there trying not to listen in on their conversation.
”Hey Tarin, I have a question,” Kevin said, his voice now sounding hesitant and amost nervous. Then Kevin was silent for a good 30 seconds before blurting out the next words quickly. ”How do you tell a girl you like them? Zack can be a bit of an idiot and didn’t have any good ideas, and I asked Uncle Robert but what he said doesn’t make sense.”

This was much better, Lee thought as she felt Tarin relaxing a bit more beside her as they watched the movie. And as the movie progressed, Lee’s head came to rest on Tarin’s shoulder again as she snuggled closer to him.
”I am sorry I got so mad earlier,” Lee said about twenty minutes later. But before she was able to expand on that or say anything else, she heard her phone ring.
Reluctantly straightening up, Lee grabbed her phone to see that it was her son calling. ”Hello?” Lee said, a little confused. Kevin had not called her at this time once during his trip because he was generally on his computer with his friends now.
”Hi mum, is Tarin there?”
”I miss you too, Kevin. How was your day?” Lee asked rather than answer immediately, and Lee could have sworn she heard the eyeroll over the phone.
”I miss you too, mum. But nothing new or different has happened since we talked this morning,” Kevin said. ”But Tarin’s normally home from work by now, right? Is he there?”
Looking over at Tarin, Lee smiled as she held out her phone. ”Apparently someone is desperate to ask you about baseball.”

Lee probably should have turned her siphoning off when she went to pick her son up from the airport. Probably should have because even with going for a run, there was a very good chance that Lee still wouldn’t be able to sleep that night. Even if she ran longer than her normal three laps around the entirety of Central Park, she might not be able to sleep.
And even though Lee had actually thought about turning her siphoning off a couple times while she was at the airport, she hadn’t. A sleepless night or two was far preferable for Lee than the anxious off balance feeling that she would have felt the entire time with that many people around but being unable to feel their energy.
The last few hours had been great. Lee had missed Kevin while he had been in Texas and Lee was very happy to finally have him back home. But at the same time, Lee was also practically vibrating with the energy she had. So once Kevin had gone to his room for the night, Lee had told Tarin she needed to go run.
Which found Lee running around the park much earlier in the night than was typical for her. But otherwise, everything about her running was the same. The petite woman was confidently running through the dark park by herself, music in her ears, her siphoning once again active. Not particularly paying attention to her surroundings by sight as with very few exceptions it was far easier for Lee to know if there were people nearby at night based on her siphoning.
And though it was still quite warm, the air in her skin exposed by her shorts and tank top felt nice as she ran at a relatively quick (for a human) pace.
At least Lee wasn’t paying much attention to her sight until she felt someone up ahead of her. Someone else who had to have been out for a run, based on how slowly she was actually closing the distance between them. Lee could tell that the person was straight ahead of her, on the same side of the path, so even before she was able to see that clearly, Lee veered over to the other side to keep as much space between them as possible when she passed.
Tarin didn't say that the movie was a good choice, but he also didn't say that he didn't want to try watching it again. He didn't say anything, in fact, but he did move as she snuggled against him to put his arm behind her in the back of the couch.
”We’re okay, right?”
When Lee heard Tarin's question a while later, Lee lifted her head to look at him before nodding. ”Yeah, I think we are,” Lee replied softly.
