The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ez did not want not make people uncomfortable. Some people felt safest in their comfort zones and Ez respected that. She had to be conscious of how far she lived outside of most people's comfort zones. For those friends who might be interested in broadening their experiences, she was also the first one to offer a friendly hand to lead them. Tarot was approachable witchcraft that most normal people felt fine experimenting with. Who was scared of a deck of harmless cards?
Not Gemma, thankfully!
Ezmeralda lit up at the confirmation, grabbing a square violet cloth and spreading it out on her bed. Her desk was not positioned in the best place for two people, but the bed should work fine. "Grand! So I'll shuffle up the deck and have you cut it or shuffle it however you like. We'll do a basic draw, and maybe we can get some glimpses into what the universe has in store for you," she suggested playfully as she finished up her shuffling. "Nothing to take too seriously; it isn't an exact science. But it might give you some things to keep in mind."
Setting down the deck on the cloth, Ez tapped the top of the deck, which was her own habit. When her fingers tapped the awaiting deck, an odd sensation rippled through her, running a shiver up and down her spine. That was unexpected. Maybe it was just her excitement getting the better of her? Regardless, she would let Gemma insert her own randomness into the deck, ensuring she was the one who dictated her own future.
Life was weird in the best possible way. If life was boring and expected, Ez would have never met Gemma. She was thankful for the hormonal teen who accidental brought them together. (She also hoped he was figuring out his way through puberty in a healthy way.)
As expected, Gemma was curious about the surprise facet of Ezmeralda's powers. Oh, if she only knew. Still, this was the safest quirk of her abilities to share. There might be science to how the gems affected her, or even a placebo effect, but she chose to see the validity of the metaphysical nature of the world around her.
The cards did not have the same easy validation. "No, the cards are just a witch thing. Has anyone ever given you a tarot reading before?" Ez took one last bite of her muffin before setting it down to focus on her cards. "The cards are for divination. Some would say fortune telling. I think of it as a call for guidance or insight from the universe."
Ez chuckled, because this was usually a hard sell to skeptic acquaintances. "It probably sounds silly, but the results can be interesting. Or at least amusing. So... any interest in what the universe has to offer you?"

Ez liked her cozy little apartment. It was not much, and some might lament the lack of space afforded by expensive rent in New York. For the young witch, her living situation was humble and far from how she lived with her family. Knowing she was removed from that life of excess and that her parents would be mortified to see her tiny apartment where she did online sex work for a living, Ezmeralda was convinced she was making good life choices.
Confident in how she was living, Ez valued her space, making it her own. She loved having Gemma as a friend, because despite their age gap, Gemma was rarely judgemental. She admired the crystal-adorned room. The rocks were not the only decorations, of course; silk cloth draped across dressers, tapestries on the walls. The room was very Ez.
"They have different textures, but I don't taste them much-- thankfully. The big thing is how they affect my moods," she admitted, returning to the box on her bed and grabbing the card box inside. "It's one of the side-effects of my power; my body picks up the metaphysical traits associated with a crystal and it alters my mood and emotions. Peaceful, pensive, passionate; lots of options depending on the rock of the day." Ez flipped through her new cards as she spoke, admiring the art on them. She was going to have to put them to use ASAP.

The moment the muffin basket was placed on the table, Ez grabbed one and took a delicious bite into it. ”This was a good plan, honestly. I get ravenous around you.” She took another bite, swallowed, and chuckled. ”And not in the naughty way. Your aura makes me immediately feel like I’m on an empty stomach. So thanks for the sugary offerings.”
It was nice to keep the digestion bit of the plan subtle, because they both knew the weirdness Gemma and her muffins inflicted on her digestive system, but no one wanted to start off a day thinking about that.
They were still new friends in the grand scheme of things, but it was not surprising Gemma showed interest in Ez’s interests. Some people were like that; supportive to their core. ”Sure! I can even show you.” She led Gemma to the bedroom, where an open cardboard box rested on the bed.
Ez grabbed a large, multi-colored geode from the box that still held several crystals and an opened deck of cards. She looked around the room. ”There’s a ton of new crystals I got in today. Some are just to keep me fed and in the right moods, but I do get a few to decorate the room and improve the energy of my space. Obviously,” she added, realizing the evidence was all around them. Crystals and gems were found on most surfaces in the bedroom, from the desk to the dresser to the windowsill. After feeling her way around the room, the geode joined the nightstand. ”You don’t see all of them on the stream. I’m a bit addicted.”

There were obvious benefits or drawbacks to Ezmeralda’s mutation. Access to elemental powers was a benefit and not being able to fit pizza into her diet was a drawback. Obvious. But more subtly, the ability to adjust her mood was its own side-benefit. Maybe that was not healthy, but it was certainly convenient.
It was hard to explain to people why Ez was often so busy and so tired. Her career path had plenty of challenges and risks, but it was not scheduled and labor-intensive. Nope, that would be her after-hours hobby of hunting and beating up mutant traffickers.
Thankfully, Gemma had plenty going on to keep her busy and their friendship was not demanding. They kept in touch and checked on one another, but neither was needy. They had an odd start, but it somehow turned into a healthy, positive friendship.
When they finally had a chance to spend some time hanging out, it was a nice reprieve Ez wanted to make the most of. She even received a new shipment of gems and crystals, and a Sunrise Quartz was the perfect snack to give her friendly energy and an inspired zest.
A doorbell chimed from the main building system and Ez buzzed Gemma up to her floor. Opening the door, Ez was quick to offer Gemma a hug as the quartz boost temporarily waned in her aura. ”Gemma! It’s great to see you again. And—wait, I smell…” Pulling back, Ez realized what Gemma brought with her on this visit. ”Muffins! I hope you’re cool with hanging out a while, because I want to demolish those.”
Ezmeralda waved Gemma into her one-bedroom apartment. ”Amazing things keep showing up at my doorstep today. New crystals, pretty new cards, a kind friend. And muffins. The goddess is so kind. Please, come in!”

Trophies were an immature thing to claim from a sexual conquest. That did not stop Ez from keeping a few pieces in her drawers that partners just happened to not reclaim. The Hawaiian shirt was loud, but hey, if things went well here, it would certainly be a memorable souvenir.
”It might go without saying, but you get extra points for saying it anyway,” she murmured, guiding his hands under his own shirt and accepting a playful kiss. She was ready to nibble on his lip when an unexpected intrusion cut the kissing short.
After being sufficiently doused by the splash of a cannonball, Ez shook off some of the water from her face, looking for the culprit. Much to her surprise, she found a prepubescent strawberry blonde girl. Sighing, scrunched her nose and mouthed a sorry to Ashton before calling out to the kid. ”Really feeling the urge to be a troublemaker, niñita? I’m sure there’s a kiddy pool for you to cause havoc in, which I heavily endorse.” Anything to return to a sense of privacy. Maybe she had to accept if she wanted privacy, she might have to call it an early night and take her party favor home.
What was the point indeed? This was a weird place to send them, though maybe they did not have a choice. "My guess? They have a mutant to use this place to keep people. Maybe those girls you were here skeeving on." It was suspicious to CW that there was seemingly no place where the kidnapped girls were being kept.
The party parted ways, though the witch could see some kind of minimap in the corner of her sight. It was a shame this space was used for nefarious purposes because the forest she walked into was hauntingly beautiful. She noticed an altar in the center of the clearing. Maybe there was a ritual that took place out here? She would love to have access to a place like this in New York, but something told her she did not have that kind of time tonight.
Her assumption was right as monsters spawned from the ground in the small alcoves surrounding the clearing. If there were monsters, killing them was probably part of the game, she assumed. Approaching large stone golems, this seemed like a good time to figure out what she could do. She had a chakram (or, technically, an ohmlatl?) she could hit them with, which seemed to do damage. It also upset the golems. Oof.
For giant stone soldiers, they seemed to do less when they hit her than expected. She also had more tools at her disposal. She triggered an ability to dash and strike, which felt good. She could also throw her blade, which felt good, but it felt better after she figured out her other “ability.” She understood why she was turned into this as she jumped toward the wall and felt an elemental empowerment like her burning gems. The elements even let her do cool new things with her other technique. This would be fun if it did not feel like her life was on the line.
Maybe she should start up a Fidgit account when this was all over.
She could hear the armored guy chatting with someone in a nearby lane, but it did not sound like things were peaceful over there. CW noticed a chat option and tried speaking out. ”You dealing with trouble over there? I just have some big monsters to chop down here.” She cleared another camp and noticed a big spider on the other side of an altar. Was that there before?
Approaching the spider, she went to attack it like another camp. It caught her by surprise, lunging at her, causing the witch to stumble back. Much to her surprise, the spider transformed into a woman—this was not just another monster. She attempted to throw a ball of webbing at CW, narrowly missing her. The witch retreated back toward her half of the jungle, where an alter seemed to spark to life. ”Looks like I’m dealing with another person in here. Also, an alter lit up and I feel like it’s important?”
It was very fortunate that Ezmeralda’s primary motivation was to keep herself out of police custody. If her main goal here was to get laid, she would have definitely gotten herself arrested for public indecency.
As it stood, she was toeing that line, as the bubbling water did its best to obscure her to acceptable public standards. Ashton joined her in the tub and she was willing to bet from that close, he was getting his own show.
The striptease was rewarded in turn, and goddess, Ashton was a reward worth reveling in. It was a shame to hide a body like that behind a gaudy Hawaiian shirt.
Though that thought did give her an idea. ”Well, of course. I love winning.”
Before she could do something cheeky, the well-trained vigilante was caught totally off guard by a teleporting beefcake appearing beside her. She hopped up in surprise for a second, (which did not help the water’s efforts to keep her decent,) before dropping back in. So Ashton was a teleporting mutant. She grinned. Well then, she could work with that.
Now that he was shirtless and lured into the tub, Ashton was curious what came next. A glint of mischief in her eye, she placed a hand on the edge of the tub. ”Well first, I have to claim my prize.” In one fluid motion, Ez snagged the folded Hawaiian shirt, pulling it into the water. She did not care if it got soaked as she pulled it over her arms. She buttoned one button near her chest; the garb was doing the bare minimum now.
”Now that that’s out of the way…” Ez turned herself around, a thigh floating up and over Ashton so she could sit in his lap, facing him in his own stolen shirt. She ran her fingers through his short hair. ”I hope you’re not some goodie goodie, because I think I’m in the mood to break some rules,” she murmured low.
Floating the suggestion out there, fishing for a response, definitely gave Ezmeralda’s line a solid tug. She caught that smile; this guy was not afraid to play. Not gay, and if he was married, he was not showing hesitation about the offer. ”Well, I certainly strive to be good company. Keeping a conversation going is sort of fifty percent of my job.” Stripping out of clothing made up most of the other half.
Like a very smart young man, Ashton not only validated Ez, he recognized an opportunity to compliment her bottom. Ez was never accused of humility, and was open to reward points for proper praise. ”Jealous, you say? Because sexy guys in goofy shirts can’t help but chase after a booty like mine?” She smirked, smacking Ashton’s butt as she walked past him to the bidding slips. ”I think I’d be jealous, too.”
After writing the amount she came to donate, hidden from Ashton so he did not see how much she was actually donating, she gave up her slip and turned back to her companion. Reclaiming her drink, she walked past him once more, tugging at the side of her bikini bottoms to tug them down just a little. Just enough to tease. ”Gonna keep chasing, stud?” she murmured as she passed, giving him a moment to watch her from behind as she walked to a hot tub.
Dipping herself into the water, she set down her drink and reached behind her back for a small gold clasp. It was daring, but it was the first frisky thing that came to mind. Maybe she had certain gems lingering in her stomach, making mischief. She let her upper body dip under the bubbly surface of the tub, leaning her shoulders forward, until a white bikini top was floating near her. She looked over her shoulder at her prey new friend with a wolfish grin.
Explaining her special diet restrictions came with a degree of trust. Her mutation was an identifying detail, even if she was not giving Gemma the whole story. This woman had her heart in the right place. She could have so many worse beliefs or opinions with a power that disables mutations, but she used it to help young mutants. Ez wondered what her life would have been like if she had the kind of parents who would send her to a school with staff as noble as Gemma. But noooo, she had to have the shady, shadow organization, mutant trafficking parents. Life was like that, unfortunately.
Blaming life for the muffin would be nice, too, but that was all on Ez. She should have known better. At least Gemma took it in stride, laughing without mocking Ez. The young witch laughed too, because it was genuinely funny that she needed to stick close to her new friend until that cursed muffin, well, passed.
"Well, I'll keep that in mind just in case I really need a shower with you close by in the next few hours," she teased, "but in the meantime, maybe we can just catch a movie? Why don't we get your regimen of allowing yourself 'You Time' started right?"

Texhibitionist? Well, that sounded like the type of name one of her old classmates would have used as an online handle. She knew her fair share of guys who got a little... overzealous with their Texan identity, but she assumed she left most of them on the other side of the Mason-Dixon. Maybe this guy was a transplant, too. At least, as far as she could remember, he did not seem familiar.
He was part of the crowd of slave-buyers, though; of that she was certain. She tried to raise her blade at him, but the green name above his head made it clear she could do nothing. Scoffing, she kept her eyes toward the twisted treeline before them. "It's a video game. We're in a video game." She glared daggers at the man in armor. "And we may be on the same team for whatever reason, but don't think I didn't see your face in that crowd of scum. If we make it out alive, I'm still dealing with you."
A cursory glance through the powers in the HUD she could see suggested she was a close-range fighter with elemental powers. At least that was in her wheelhouse. "Hey Gun Girl, you seem to know what you're doing. What do we do?"
"There's two big lanes and a jungle full of monsters. Two of us protect towers from the guys on the other side and the third kills jungle monsters and jumps in to help fight the enemies."
Crystal Witch ran forward, seeing an opening into the dark wood and noticing her range of vision was limited to about ten yards ahead of her. "And if their jungle roamer finds me?"
"Then try not to die?"
CW turned back around and arched an eyebrow. "And if I die?"
The pirate shrugged. "Why not try not dying? I'll go to the bottom, and the big clunker can head to the top. This only ends if we break their base, so, you know, don't die."
Nodding, CW faced the armored man one more time before they split up. "Looks like we're stuck together, so if you've got trouble, use that ping option. I might even give a shit," she muttered, disappearing into the woods.
No one expected Ezmeralda to be serious when she joked about things like stolen drug money. It sounded over the top and ridiculous for a young woman parading around in a bikini. Of the crimes she had been accused of on the internet, attacking drug dealers and stealing their money never broke the top ten. She should still be more careful making comments like that, but burning a garnet gave her an abundance of confidence, amongst other things.
Ashton, as expected, let the comment slide. Good choice. She could forgive the shirt, especially when he seemed so amenable to removing it in the vague near future.
Looking through the auctions, Asthon mentioned Cold Steel, which Ez did wince at. That was an X-Man, if she remembered correctly, and as much of a risk-taker as she was, she was not looking to get a date with some government-approved vigilante wannabe. No, she could do better, even if Sam Johnson was hot. Hot was not a limited commodity. Ashton was hot, she mentally pointed out as a shiver ran up her spine. "I don't know about Cold Steel, but how much for a night with you?" she teased, before correcting, "Date."
Skimming past food-related prizes, knowing they had no benefit for her, she did notice a voucher to shop at a high-end boutique. Ez smirked. "Oh, a fancy shopping spree. I'm sure the stuck-up Karens would love to see me in their world squeezing my Latina ass into their expensive dresses."
Ez was not jumping to conclusions; Gemma was not the first straight woman to hang out in her chat and even enjoy a show. Up until things got explicitly sexual, the dancing itself was quite the display, or so Ez was told. She, of course, was too humble to brag. That said, there was a reason she frequented the front page of 4Devotees.
At least her audience did not see her mulling over the misery of digesting a muffin. "My body, er, digests gemstones and crystals. They influence my mood and keep me nourished." She would leave out all the elemental tricks they allowed her to do. "It also means my body doesn't know what to do with food. I got excited about eating food and sort of... didn't think what would happen when my digestive system shifts back. Usually, if I eat normal food, it just sits there and I just get really sick for a while until I can work it off." She enjoyed being a mutant, but some changes were not ideal.
"Without getting hella awkward about this, um. Do you have plans today?" She did not want to inconvenience Gemma, but if she was free...
It was nice to make contact with Gemma and not have the woman recoil or get the wrong impression. Ez could be flirtatious with the best of them, but Gemma needed a friend. The young witch was happy to offer her friendship to a woman who seemed too good for the misfortunes life kept handing her.
The effort was enough to earn a smile from Gemma, which was all Ez wanted. ”I’m glad you don’t judge, because I noticed you did not log out of the stream after we finished up our chat,” she noted with a smirk. She had anticipated Gemma would leave after they made their plans, but was entertained as she watched the stolen screenname stick around for a curious amount of time.
Looking at the muffin, or the bits of it that were left, Ezmeralda beamed. ”It was great. I don’t generally get to eat things like this, and it’s so sweet, it’s honestly a treat. My digestive system just isn’t meant to process…” A thought occurred to Ez. A very late, very unfortunate thought. ”Oh. When I walk away… my digestive system is going to snap back to normal. My body is not going to be happy to have a muffin in it,” she lamented, not looking forward to the hours she was going to endure after she parted ways with Gemma.
The world warped and the Crystal Witch felt her head fogging up, shifting her vision. When the effect settled, she slowly got to her feet, noticing leggings of some fine fabric dressing her knees as they left the ground.
Somehow, a wardrobe change was the smallest thing wrong here as crow cawing could be heard from deep within the woods.
The woods she was now standing at the edge of somehow.
The vigilante blinked several times, sure she was just haluscinating and needed to clear the insanity from her eyes. When that did not help, she looked around. Her dress was fine, she had ornate metal bangles, and she felt some kind of headpiece adorning her head. More surprising was a large circular bladed weapon at her feet. It felt… necessary. Without a thought, she grabbed it by the handle.
In seeking to understand her own situation, she finally realized she was not alone. The Crystal Witch bore her weapon against a man in armor and a very… intriguingly dressed woman. ”Who are you? What is this?”
The vigilante was defensive, but she finally noticed names hovering over their heads. Names in green, and though she could not see it, she had one as well written as “TheCrystalWitch” in bright green. ”Hmm… I mean. Green is not exactly the color of an enemy?”
And then the Witch noticed things in her periphery. Icons with tool tips. Menu options. A User Interface? This… was familiar. She had seen this before! ShadyShay’s streams called through her mind.
”Haunted Hallow! What the hell, we’re in a game of Haunted Hallow?” And she was… who was this one? Quinoa, she was pretty sure?
