The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

'Okay'... was being too modest. The guy had a face for TV. Which made sense. Since.
Aurum turned. His eyes fell on Viletta's fiance. He opened his mouth. "... Villy. You never told me you were dating Brendan Brennan."
That was enough to give make him pause.
The guy smiled. He had hazel eyes and short chestnut hair, slightly spiked. His smile and his close shave said "I'm in charge, here." So did his belt buckle and attitude. "Didn't know I had a fan." He said. The actor extended a hand.
Aurum set down the spuds and shook it, then broke the handshake. "Have a seat. Please. Glad to see you both made it alright."
He sat himself down, too.
Viletta scooted in. She looked at the spread. It looked amazing. "Me too," she chimed. "I always have loved your cooking."

"Everything's pretty much done." He said. "Preparations, all that. Should all be ready... soon."
The hands on the phoenix wright watch moved. Soon came.
There was a knock at the door.
Aurum looked up from putting the finishing touches and dishes onto the table. "Can you get that, Riley?"
Oh, he hoped she wouldn't punch her in the face. He wanted her to like her. And they were so much alike--!! Okay. That wasn't true. He had been kidding there. But seriously, girls needed to get along. He wanted this to go well. If it didn't, things would suck. And the steak had been expensive enough he didn't want that to happen. He got that Riley was upset by this. That was another reason he wanted this to go well. He wanted it to go so it'd be over.
He hoped she had had enough of a chance to blow off that steam before answering that door.

More time passed. More zombies died.
Dying was such a funky word for zombies.
Aurum couldn't believe Ami had somehow come into a situation with the walking undead. And on Halloween. It was unreal.
The Mellitus family delivery van trundled along. As they sped through the city, Aurum's grip grew progressively tighter.
'I'm gonna go save my sister' was a great line to drop. Lots of gusto, plenty of oomph and bang to get behind. But what the hell were they going to do once they got there? He'd never contributed to a battle during a zombie apocalypse. Even Riley seemed to have an edge on him... "Maybe I should just throw the book at them..." Aurum muttered wryly. The red light changed to green. Aurum moved on.

"Don't worry about it," Aurum reassured her. He'd done that same reassurance over and over. This had to be the seventeenth time. Or maybe the ninetieth. He couldn't fault her. Some people simply didn't like having dinners with the Ex.
"She's bringing her fiance. She's engaged. You'll like her. Really. Riley."
He'd barely managed to keep Ami out of this double date dinner. Her, plus the other two women would have been too much.
He reassured as he worked. He worked as he reassured. Maybe reassuring was the bigger job than making dinner? But salads and steaks didn't prepare themselves. Unless Brendan and Villy liked their meat rare.
"So, this job." He asked. "It's with your lawfirm? This is your lawfirm?" That last part was an important bit of clarification.
"Yup."
"Wow."
"Yup." Viletta clicked her tongue. "Tiger, you hit it big."
"If I take the job."
"If you take the job," she agreed.
"So what would I be doing? And what would it pay?"
She told him.
They had another bout of dueling 'Wow's.
Viletta smirked. "And of course, I'd leave a lot of the work up to your discretion. I trust ya. I know ya won't backstab me like some people."
Had that been a hinting eyebrow arch? Hm.
"This all seems too good to be true."
"Uh huh..." Viletta stared at him expectantly.
"Who told you to call me again...?" He asked. "Ami, right?"
"Ami."
"And she told you I'm seeing someone, right?"
"Suspicious, suspicious." Viletta sighed. She massaged her temples. "Yes, Ally. I am aware that you are seeing someone."
"So you can't... this can't... go back to what it was before."
"That had actually been furthest from my mind. Genius." She held up her hand. Pointed to the engagement ring. Shook her head, ashamed for him. "Holmes would be proud."
"Oh."
"Yeah." She said.
"So, I don't really have anything to worry about."
"Unless you mess up and lose my firm a lot of money or customers," She commented casually. "Then, I'll kill ya."
She was tall, with long brown hair that curled slightly towards its end. Her lips were drawn in a smile that dimpled her angular face. It was strong, but not masculine. Her eyes were just strong. Light green, they seemed to sparkle whenever she grinned… which, judging from the slight smile lines on her face, was more often than not.
The woman cupped a hand over the receiver on the phone in her hands as he entered the room. Aurum was wearing a nice suit. Not Sunday’s best, but good to go for all your workplace needs.
"I’ll have to let you go," Viletta said gently into the receiver. "My five-o-clock just stepped in. Ally. Hey. It’s been a while." She continued, as they hung up.
Aurum nodded curtly. "We need to talk." Was she still calling him ‘Ally’, too? Like the word 'Alley'? Sheesh. He thought she’d have outgrown that by now. "And still 'Ally'? Really?" He shook his head with a light chuckle.
"Well, I still think ‘Alexander’ or ‘Ally’ sound less like names one would give a stripper," Viletta insisted with a frank smile.
Alexander. His middle-name. It had earned him that nickname when he was young.
"It’d seem more professional to me if we… kept calling me Aurum, yeah?"
"Pft, professional." Viletta waved off the comment with a hand. "You’ll always be Ally to me. Now, please. Have a seat. Let’s talk."

Aurum's back was to the guy as he made the man his coffee, so Aedus didn't see the eyebrow arch , but it was entirely likely he could have heard it in Aurum's tone.
"Really? Naw. You can have her. I already have a girlfriend."
He turned and slid the man his coffee. "That'll be four bucks."

The line thinned. The herd of ladies abated. It was a guy's turn. Finally.
Aurum turned to the guy and smiled politely.
"What would you like, sir?"
Sir, like the man of the house. Sir, like this guy's father. Sir, like 'implying that you are old, man. take that.' Completely unintentional. Just politeness, but still. Sir. Because Aurum was young and attractive. Obviously everyone else were old hacks.
Or so one might think if they were so inclined to jealousy. He was just giving good service.

More blinking. Then, an understanding look. She was jealous.
"You've got nothing to worry about," Aurum said softly. "Even if I take the job... and I'm still not sure what Viletta has in mind... it's over between us. And it'll stay that way. It's been a long time."
Pro-tip, people. 'A long time' is 5-6 years.
"Between her and you, it's no contest." He looked her in the eyes.
