The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

One moment, he had the axe, the next, it was gone. Stupid ninja shit was right. The rapid series of blows sent him reeling. The leg sweep finished the job, sending him to the floor. Aurum wasn't a trained fighter. He played basketball now and then, enjoyed a good soccer game, and went to the gym. He wasn't a pushover when it came to your average flexings of muscle, but he was hardly trained to deal with someone who knew how to fight. All of the actions had gone by too fast for him to take them in.
The air was getting hot and painful. He let out a cough as he tried to get back his wind after the fall. This really sucked. If they didn't get by this idiot, they were all going to die. All of them. Even the idiot. Even him. What the hell kind of game was he playing?
His back hurt. Falling does that. And his chest ached from where he'd been punched. His eyes were starting to water. It was getting hard to breathe. But none of that meant he had to roll over and die. As Riley moved, unbeknownst to him, Aurum stayed the focus of the madman who'd started the blaze as he pushed himself, tiredly, raggedly, to his feet.

Aurum turned to casually bust the ax out of its glass case, then taking it up in his hands, charged Silus. Cuz hey, if a guy's gonna start something and start saying dramatic stuff about basements becoming tombs, that's justified cause.
(( OOC: Juli approved turn order switching for us, because it made sense. ))

Like El Toro the bull fighter, Aurum swung his flag (Riley) up and away. They turned out of the charging man's path. If he wanted to run, he could run. If he was innocent, he might. If he wasn't, Aurum seriously had to think about how they'd handle this. They were in a burning building. What was most important now were evacuations. The alarm wailing throughout the building was putting that in motion already. Fighting the fire, also important, but the fire department would be better equipped for that.
Riley was light. He set her down and let go of her, stepping away. His shirt was still up against his mouth.
He wasn't sure what would come next, but it would be coming, all the same.
He knew the scent of fire, surprisingly enough. Of burning things. Because one didn't start out a pro. And even they made mistakes. This wasn't popcorn, though, or S'mores, or cookies. He couldn't place what it was, other than 'not those', but it by itself wasn't instantly a cause for alarm. Maybe it was lint.
Maybe not.
Smoke signaled. As Riley conveyed eloquently. The automated fire alarm system seemed to hear her, and lazily took this opportunity to wail loudly as if making up for its slow noticing of things. A 'yes, yes I hear you' abating cry.
Aurum's eyes snapped around the area, taking note of the situation. His arms found themselves around Riley's shoulders. He didn't want her rushing in to drag out the guy. If he needed help, he'd be getting it from him, not her. There was an ax behind glass nearby on a wall for if things got serious, and... Aurum coughed. "We need to cover our mouths..." A hand went to Riley's shirt collar before tugging on his own.

Aurum got up from the ugly red couch. My, but it sure was an ugly red couch. He was glad to be off it. Being on it with Riley was okay. Because she was not an ugly red couch. But sitting on it by himself, sipping his coffee... was not. Okay, that is.
"Okay," he said. They could do that. Get the laundry. And maybe browse for couches in the alley out back on the way upstairs. It wasn't a huge detour or anything. It would be fine. Unless it got stuck halfway up in the stairwell like in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and no laws of mathematics or reality could explain how it had gotten there in the first place, or how, short of a sawblade, it would be getting out.
So off they went, to the laundry room! Because that didn't involve sawblades at all.
He didn't set his sandwich down. He merely acted as if she were commenting on the weather. 'My, but that is an interesting weather pattern we've been having this week.' 'I love you.' 'Yes, I love you too.' 'This rain, however, gets no love.' 'Quite.'
"That so? I love you, too. Drink your coffee." He nodded towards the thermos. "Before it gets cold."
Inside, fireworks banged and angels sang, but she probably would have ran from that. And he was not cool enough to have pulled off an 'I know'. So he'd played it cool. Two paths had diverged in a yellow wood, and he'd taken the one that he thought best. Any who didn't agree with his choice could go stuff themselves. And what luck! Sandwiches! They were sitting right there! Aurum took a bite of his own.
"Ah. Well." Aurum shrugged. "You make it look good. Anyways," Sitting down, he reached into the bag to extract the sandwiches. "Here's your sandwich. And the grapes. And coffee." One by one, things appeared on the table. The man got his own things, once his lady was properly situated.
He took up a sandwich in his hands and looked at her, finishing with a question. "So. How's your day?"
"Roast beef sandwiches, some coffee, and grapes." He said simply, then added. "And don't worry about it. You're fine. I like the ears, but... animal print and those colors?" He had to shake his head and laugh. "Not sure what the designer was thinking."
As he spoke, he set the bag down on the table casually. As if meeting in a dressing room with her in a cat suit and him... not... was perfectly ordinary. An everyday thing.
"You have coffee mugs, right?" He looked her way, suddenly realizing he'd forgotten a key thing.
Blushing, huh? Like any man, he appreciated a good blush far more than a crazy outfit. He smiled at her.
"I was actually planning on it," He replied, nodding to the bag. "Packed for two."
Her focus turned to the guy she'd been working with, and he spared a friendly glance and a nod his way. His hands were too full with the bag to wave back. The smile and the nod would have to do. His focus turned back to Riley.
Sandwiches. Home-made. Sourdough bread. Good sourdough bread. Mustard. Good roast beef. Some mayo. Some sliced cheddar cheese. A thermos of coffee and some grapes. Simple. Good. He had enough for two inside a brown paper bag. Which he held in his arms as he went up the stairs to the shoot.
For Aurum, his day had been going especially well. He'd yelled at five different people, helped a couple clients settle outside of court, and drank some really good coffee (which he planned to share). The highlight of the morning hadn't happened though. And now it was afternoon. Lunch time. It would happen soon. He was going to bring this lunch to his girlfriend on the set. Sure, they had food there and he was certain she could help herself, but that wasn't the point. The point was... he was going to have some lunch with her on set. Yeah. That was the point. Good point, bro. Good point.
Some people become bumbling fools when they wander onto a set, after waving their identification, proving who they are, and appeasing all the right gods, only to come to the set and see their girlfriend in a cat suit on the legs of another guy. Maybe forget the start of that sentence and focus on the key points. Some people become freaking idiots when they stumble upon their girlfriend, scantily-clad, on the leg of some guy. A 'freaking idiot' could in this case be jealous, or angry, or glad. Maybe Aurum was the last one, but hey. In no way was it related to his girlfriend's outfit or the position she all-too-hastily pulled herself out of on his approach. He held up the bag.

>>"That was a hell of a date."
Brendan... didn't ask.
Viletta shook her head with a laugh. Zombies, really?
Aurum joined the woman in a toast. "To that."
"Right. That." Viletta smiled. She brought up her glass. And Brendan's. He joined, too. And then, they ate.
And ate. And ate. Any questions or confirmations about zombie stuff went unanswered and unasked.
Viletta looked to Riley as the woman broke the silence. "All sorts of things, actually. We've got a people with different specialties. Plenty of room for Aurum's specialty." She looked to Aurum. "Criminal defense, still?"
Aurum confirmed with a nod. "Yup."
It was a good thing they'd gotten that cleared up after he'd been hired, rather than before, huh?

Brendan eyed Aurum. "And you kept her."
Aurum smirked. "She's a catch."
Although, technically they'd met over court, too. But hey. He couldn't fault her for not wanting to copy Viletta's story any more than she had to. Plus, that whole story... yeah. 'She's a catch' felt so much more impressive.
"Hey, you hear about Halloween, with the walking undead?" He asked.
"Yeah..." Brendan asked suspiciously.
Viletta quirked a curious eyebrow.
Aurum jerked his head towards Riley. "Me and her stopped it."
"You're kidding."
"Try the food. I don't kid around."
Brendan went to test this for himself. Viletta shortly joined.

Viletta nodded. The woman's comment was correct. "Spectacular," she agreed. She looked to the hubby and added. "You should get the recipe, Bren Bren. Ally could hook you up."
Brendan was not emasculated by any of this, nope. He just laughed. "Maybe I will. I'm sure it tastes wonderful."
How long had they been engaged?
He looked to Viletta. "3 months?"
She nodded the confirmation. "3 Months."
"Wow. How'd you meet?" Aurum asked.
They started eating as Viletta and Brendan began their spiel.
Several. Minutes. Later. She turned to Riley and asked. "So. What about you two? You make a 'cute' couple." She smiled. Cute was an interesting word to use here, was it not?
