The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Wait, you can control blood and this is the first thing I'm hearing about it? That is so freaking awesome!" Could she like move it through the air and throw it around. Oh god could she mess with it in peoples bodies? That would be freaky. And amazing. Fremazing. Narrowing her eyes, "Could Alice do that too? Because I am learning more about her here than well, when I knew her."
What. The. F**k.
This was getting real weird. Cait knew Alice. Alice was evil Serena. Serena now knew Cait. And Serena knew....not so evil Cait. Who was a guy. "I'm.......a guy? And, erm, what do you mean accent? If he is me it should be the same. Or, well, deeper but still the same." Because that's the only logical thing for her....twin.
And logic always applied to trans-dimensional people copies.
Accepting the hand and pulling herself up, "Yeah, I uh, think I need some food because I can't deal with being a guy without something in my stomach. This is not a empty belly convo." Or really a post fun times, hungover conversation but apparently she didn't have a choice in the matter because stuff got real.
He was good. Taking her counter into stride and not stubbornly clinging to his two handed grip his quick switch in movement nearly caught her off guard. While his hand closed over her wrist and tried to pull her off balance she actually followed the movement.
Stepping quickly forward and twisting she brought her free hand up to guard the sword while giving the man a quick grin.
On the inside she was kind of running through a few options and discarding each one given she couldn't use her normal methods to break grapple, instead she went for something a little riskier.
Letting go knife in her caught arm and letting it fade she made clenched the fist and yanked it hard before quickly changing the direct and trying slam it into Shin to tie his own arm up and get her back into dangerous range. If that didn't work she'd plant her feet a little solidly to not get knocked about and try to block any sword attacks.
Which would be real hard given she was at a major disadvantage at the moment.
Respond to the grin with one of her own, she nodded, accepting the compliment gracefully and with no blushing at all. For once. "Well thank you dear, I am pretty fond of it myself. I do have to say I love yours as well, definitely my favourite berry. Especially with it's history as a fantastic enhancer to certain drinks." Yeah, sometimes stereotypes were true. Cait enjoyed a good drink and there were really good gins to be had.
"Thank god for that because as someone who had to suffer through family lectures on Scottish history, it gets old quick. Round about the third King James in a row is when I usually tune out." The stimulating line did not pass her by either, because this girl was clearly flirting back.
Slyvia Night? Now those she had never heard of. Sounded very interesting from the titles and she'd probably indulged in someone similar when she was younger. "Doesn't sound familiar but I've only really been reading books over here for a wee bit. Don't recognise all the parallels."
"They do sound fascinating though, maybe you'll have to introduce me to them some time." Yeah Cait. Subtle. Real subtle.
Her training/therapy sessions had been really intense recently for some reason. Not that she was complaining, it was a really good excuse to stretch her limbs and get back to feeling like she did before somehow ending up in the wrong universe. She mainly just wished she wouldn't keep attracting an audience.
Especially when some of them were students, which was real weird.
Drying off her hair after her post workout shower she was wandering aimlessly through the mansion when she spotted and unfamiliar man sitting in the living room. A man who was looking around with such wide eyed curiosity it was almost like he was a kid stepping inside a sweet shop for the first time. It was kind of adorable to be honest and pulled at her own curiosity enough to walk over.
"Hey there, you waiting for someone?" she began, wrapping the towel around her neck as she stepped around the sofa, "or you just here to hang out and glance around like a school child?" Cait added with teasing tone.
As she sat down she got a better look at the man and well, he was not too bad looking at all. Older than herself but not by a huge amount and he did have a pretty strong jaw and while she couldn't be sure but he looked like he wasn't a slouch when it came to his physique. Of course that was purely academy interest on her part. Nothing more at all.
Smiling when she heard yet another adorable admission from
Beautiful? Now that was one thing she hadn't heard about her power. Freaky? Yes. Scary? Oh too many times but beautiful, no that was something new. "I suppose it can be, in a way. Pretty nasty in practice unfortunately, especially when you're not a fan of hurting people." Cait had always struggled to reconcile her reasons for being an X with how, well violent, her power really was.
Blinking at the sudden question, she narrowed her eyes at Serena. "That's.....a weird direction to go. And no, I'm an only child. I do have a few cousins back home in Scotland but other than that it's a pretty small family." All the shame really, she would have been an awesome big sister. Giving advice and protecting and of course all the hugs possible. "Why? I mean, I'm not upset or anything and I'm always happy to chat about family stuff with friends but that was a little out of no where dear?"
Did she know something? Had she met Cait double?
Nah, that was insane. Especially since Serena hadn't recognised her at all and was very clearly good at noticing pretty girls. No it was probably a coincidence or something. Also why was she thinking stupid things and nearly missing Serena leaving her cocoon.
Of course Cait watched her. Totally non creepily. Totally not with any thoughts or intentions cropping up.
My word, the girl was getting bold if she was giving out kisses without bursting into fire. "Yeah, it's certainly been a while, a dimension and some fractured memories since I've been able to cut loose." It was weird, Serena was easy to talk too. So much so she kept giving away information she probably should keep close to her chest.
Not like she'd let slip she was an X or anything.
"I'm glad to hear it sweetie," she replied warmly, "you're pretty great to hang out with, among other things, so thanks for wanting me to stick around."
Raising an eyebrow at the request, "What, haven't seen enough of me to satisfy you?" she teased. Thinking it over she couldn't exactly find a reason not show off, and frankly of any person on this side of things was going to see her power, she reckoned her new friend would be one of them.
Hold out her hand and forming the image in her head she pulled the dagger into place in a practiced thought. Setting it slowly spinning over her palm she gave Serena a look. "Pretty weird right. Almost looks like it's made of wires or something but it is pretty strong. Sharp too so be careful dear, no need to get blood over your nice sheets."
"I'd say so dear," she laughed, "although fun might be a wee bit of an understatement. I don't know if they expected you to pick up a girl but well, I am glad you did." Giving a cheeky grin, she only blushed slightly as some of the less hazy memories returned. Christ, had she really been that pent up?
Compliments, hugs and a pretty face? Was there any downside to hanging out with Serena? "Well then I'll have to hang around plenty if that's part of the deal, just expect some teasing Serena," giving her a smoking look, "or maybe something else." Cait was only half joking about having other activities in mind but Serena was fun. If casual sex was one the table, sweet. If not, well she she was also intelligent, thoughtful and likely to boost her self esteem so there really wasn't a down side.
Terribly rude in her experience. Somehow worse when they'd been beaten too which was extra annoying.
"I know right? Half the time I'm standing there with knives and freaking floating weapons and they still think it's smart to mouth off." Not like it actually got to her really but it still annoyed her a little. Was it too much to ask for a little professional courtesy from street thugs and criminals?
Nodding at the thanks she took a nice slow drink of her own water. Didn't really alleviate the hangover, barely even registered on it frankly but what exactly was she expecting after going so hard with no partying in the last year and a half to aid the resilience. Still, she wasn't curled up around a toilet so it wasn't the worst she'd ever had.
Her grin was only mildly cat like at the flailing compliments Serena was giving her. It was like watching a kitten trying to stalk a very sneaky toy, two parts adorable and one part fascinating to see if they'd succeed. "That was pretty clear, especially since you don't exactly strike me as a lass who goes out with this objective in mind," she stated, vaguely gesturing at the two of them. "But thank you, you have no idea how much hearing that after so long means to me."
Well, who didn't like to feel wanted after all, but considering her losses and struggle to be herself again it was very heart warming being in that position again.
"And you sweetheart, are incredible. At so many things," she twitched her eyebrow suggestively, "not least how generous you are with your praise. You would be surprised how little a girl hears those kind of things when fighting crime." Mostly swearing. That what she heard. That, with a dash of misogyny and general idiocy from cocky men.
So Cait knew Serena was a bit of a blusher. Well by bit see prone to it at the drop of a hat but she wasn't expecting it after the fact to be honest. Grinning at her and laughing lightly, "Seriously? After what we did last night you're skittish about me seeing you naked?" She was just too much fun to tease.
It was absolutely adorable to watch her get flustered though.
Nodding she began, "Good to know, I''ll be just a couple of seconds." Following the words she quickly located a couple of glasses and filled them, only pausing to down one herself first before refilling it then bringing them both back through to the bedroom. "Nice place by the way," she commented lightly, offering one of the drinks to Serena, "much easier to appreciate it in the day light."
And sober. And not otherwise occupied.
Sitting cross legged on the bed she considered the blonde. In real light and not distracted by the many ideas she'd had when seeing Alice/Serena in that bar she did have to admit that while they were twins, there were some little differences. Real hard to see in the dark and unnoticeable when asleep but they were there. Like the way they held themselves, or the added depth Serena had to her expressions.
Well those, an the fact that Alice hadn't exactly been shy about being naked in front of and usually with Cait.
Coming awake with a start she panicked a little at the unfamiliar surroundings. Sure, she'd been used to waking up a little hungover in a strange bed but a couple of years not knowing who she was threw her off her game a little but she quickly calmed down when she realised where she was.
OK not so much where she was exactly, just the vague idea of being somewhere in New York, in Serena's apartment. With no clothes on.
So there was that too.
Slowly sitting up she glanced down at her new friend who was still asleep. Good to know that part of the night hadn't been a drunken dream because she didn't trust her imagination at the moment and conjuring up something like that was right up it's alley. But no, the woman was very definitely real. Very fetching too in the daylight, which now that Cait could see her in the proper light she looked so much like Alice it was freaky. Like yeah they were copies or twins or whatever but it was really hard not to see her version lying there, not to believe she was back home.
Not that she was complaining. At all. Ever.
Sliding out of the bed quietly, she pulled on her underwear and her shirt and was about to hunt for something cold and preferably non alcoholic to drink when she heard stirring from the bed.
Glancing over and giving Serena a smile, "Sorry, didn't mean to wake you sweetie. I was just hunting for some water."
OK, this girl was fun. And clearly not shy when it came to certain topics if she rolled with the joke. Even doubled down on reading what amounted to porn if Cait was remembering right. "I wouldn't know to be honest, but then I always was a girl who learnt better at the practical applications. Theory was a bit dry for me," she replied with a sly smile.
"I'm sure you do dear, you don't strike me as someone shy about your interests but that kind of club I think they may be a wee bit shy about having around. Fun though." Sitting down at the table instead of waiting for an invitation she appraised the girl a little more closely now that she was closer. Cait reckoned she was a little younger than herself, not by much but noticeable to the Scot. Interesting eyes though, there looked to be promises of mischief there which was half a good excuse to hang around than any.
The not so subtle references made up the other fifty percent.
Now that was a new name for Cait. People named after various pretty flowers she had heard but not that one. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm Caitriona. Cait to my friends."
Catching the glance at the books she leaned over to inspect some of the spines. No wonder the girl got distracted by something more fun that was some damn dry reading for one day, no way she'd be able to stay awake if she was the one slogging through them. "European history? No wonder you want to read something a little more stimulating that gets boring real quick."
"Well you fool me dear because that was on hell of a kiss." Like damn. Sure, Cait was a little hard up after losing her memory for a year and the mansion didn't exactly have an abundance of single people with a casual attitude to sex so maybe she was a little rusty too. But still, damn good kiss.
Chewing her lip she was kind of glad to have met Serena. Alice was fun. Lots of it. Also evil so maybe she shouldn't be missing her but Serena was really sweet and shy and cute. Which was awesome. And goodness the blushing messed up her thoughts far too much because it was far adorable for one person to deal with.
Wait when did Serena's hand find it's way down her neck and how had she not noticed that. No complaints but how had that happened?
Trying very hard not to literally jump for joy at the not very subtle request she gave Serena a look at least two parts lust and one part happiness. "Fun I can totally do. Kind of my specialty to be honest and I think we both could do with some. Together. Preferably at your place. So lead the way dear," she breathed slowly standing and offering a hand, "and I'll show you the kind of fun we can have."
Creepy? Kind of, depending on the context. "Most of the Sith are, in one way or another although there are a lot of benevolent ones hidden away. Like, Gaelic werewolves primarily leave food for starving families and just want to be left alone." That was a nice one, she'd always been enraptured by the idea of wulvers helping out or selkies rescuing drowning sailors. "But yeah some real nasties among them." Even just thinking of one in particular sent a shiver up her spine. Her dad had always made the nuckelavee seem so real in his tellings.
So, yeah. Wow.
Cait had expect the kiss to be nice it was Al- Serena after all. She knew they had chemistry and she already knew who intense those kisses could be. Like there was a deep hunger hiding away behind it ready to drag her into it's depths.
But yeah. This was new.
None of the promises of something more, the eagerness to get lost in some kind of haze. It was more, well in the moment. Which she wasn't complaining about, it was different to what she'd been expect but no less awesome. And really dangerous but she got too many urges for her hands to starting moving places that really would be a bit much. For the moment.
What was she doing again?
Pulling away gently she kept the hand on Serena cheek and looked at her with undisguised interest. "I think it's fair to say, you are very good at this too Serena."
Gruff? That really depended on who you asked. Deep down he was a sweetheart but some people couldn't quite get past his shell. "I like to think he's a big old love bug but some people can't really see it. Which is a shame, he's probably done more for me than anyone else when it comes to health care." He'd kind of helped her deal with just about everything, from dealing with her first fight to that particularly messy breakup after she'd graduated.
Right time, right place might be a factor but Cait reckoned the woman was really selling herself short. She stood out, clearly, and the Scot couldn't wait to find out why. Well OK, she knew why Serena stood out anyway but more in the art world than, everywhere else. Like bars. On a stool. In front of her. Adorably chewing on her lip and blushing like a school girl.
Hard not to get lost in the moment but Cait was really trying to pay attention. "That sounds, pretty cool actually. I really love old myths and legends, kind of grew up with all the Gaelic and Celtic ones. Cat Sith was a favourite of mine, for obvious reason," she said with a blush, "and it totally has nothing to do with sounding like my name. At all."
Why was she flailing?
Right then. That was why. She'd always heard about a hearts skipping beats but that was a new one for her. How was this woman so cute. Like seriously it just wasn't fair. Coughing slightly before recovered she broke out in a grin, "I think you don't need to ask permission and it would take a woman with a heart of stone to say no to you so....." trailing off she reach up to caress Serena cheek, leaning in to kiss the woman again. Although this time, a little more longingly than her previous peck.
Cait couldn't really remember the last time she had actually been in a library. She definitely avoided it when she was at school and after that, she'd never needed one with her line of work. And with her line of other work, as much as the others might have wished she was a bit better at the whole research thing.
It just, well it was just kind of boring to her, just sitting and reading. She'd definitely rather be playing and practicing than struggling through some dry door stopper.
Still, part of her wanted to learn as much as she could about this world for when she finally managed to find a way back and there were fewer places better to learn history than a place like this. Shame she was kind of bad at her own universes history, so spotting differences was next to impossible but she was at least gleaning some useful things.
Like the fact most of the history of her homeland was broadly the same. Maybe some different town names, battles in slightly changed locations and some really weird name differences in the legends but it did seem nearly identical.
Slowly browsing her way through some truly mind numbing books she decided to go for one more interesting, maybe some of the old myths she'd been taught as a kid. Those might be cool, or she would have gotten to them if she hadn't been interrupted from her thoughts by the sight of, well a very attractive girl, looking very bored and very lonesome.
Yeah maybe the library wasn't all bad.
Approaching slowly she vaguely recognised the books title, wondering if it was similar to her worlds one. If it was.....well that was interesting. Raising her voice, "Now that seems like an odd choice for study, although if that is assigned reading I do want to know what you study."
