The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”Really sh***y.” Riley agreed.
She didn’t have a lot of experience with love, but she had a plenty of experience with relationships that didn’t last, that were over before they really even began. That’s why Riley was skeptical.
”But yeah. Hopefully you understand more.”
One more shrug. ”I wish I was different. But I...just know too much. I can’t be.”
Enough about her though...more than enough.
”And you sound like you’re talking from way too much experience for your age.”

Ami had made her guy say it?
Riley wrinkled her nose at the concept. Why would you want all of that.
”It’s such a loaded word.” she mused. ”You can’t just walk away from someone when they say ‘I love you’. Even if you don’t say it back, it ties you to them. It’s full of commitment, and expectations. It’s a hard thing to feel backed into.”

Why did she want details? Was it really that important for her to hear the whole thing?
Riley sighed.
”We were ice skating. Well, Aurum was ice skating, I was falling all over the place like an idiot.” The memory was still fresh, and it still made Riley’s cheeks a little warm to think about it.
”I kept falling and getting up...and then this one time I fell...and he just said it.” Riley snapped her fingers. ”Just like that.”
The brunette thought about it, then shook her head. ”I argued with him...and later he switched it to ‘like’ so....yeah. I dunno.”

Riley watched Ami through her little spiel with an eyebrow raised, then shook her head and smiled slightly.
Yeah. This had gotten real awkward. Real fast.
Sabotage? The fact that it was even a thought in the teen’s mind set off warning bells. Sure it might be against whatever code the girl said she had...but sometimes people violated their own moral code...when it was important enough to them to see something through.
”I’m here for information.” she said simply. ”How can I begrudge actually getting it?”

Riley shrugged and cast a wry smile in Ami’s direction. The brunette was in the dark about how much Ami actually knew about her, but the honesty was appreciated, even if it wasn’t exactly what she wanted to hear.
”I am what I am, even if it's not what people want me to be.” she said on a sigh, ”And don’t worry about it. I wasn’t exactly Miss Congeniality. I don’t exactly do well with things like friends and family.”

”Nope and nope.” Riley said, as the kid sat down, started insulating himself with paper, and shooting the half and half containers that were in the coffee caddy.
”You can just chill out. They’re bringing you coffee and a burger as soon as they can make it. I’m not going to cover your ass if you get thrown out of here, so I’d start acting civilized if I were you.”
The kid was over the top. Yeah it was fricken freezing outside, but something about him seemed less than genuine.
”I don’t give out handouts, but the City Union Mission is open on cold days like this. They’ve got free coffee, blankets, and pretty much everything else that’s better than the middle of the park.”
She paused to let the info sink in. ”When we’re done here, you ought to hit that place up. They usually have clothes and coats too.”

Damn. Caught red-handed.
Riley looked at Ami for a few moments. There was really nothing the girl could do to stop her if she chose to go, but if she left at this point... Yeah. Riley knew she wouldn’t call. What Ami had just said, all the information that had just been dropped. It was a lot. It was too much.
It was all terrifying.
Breaking hearts? Who was she to even be in possession of one to break?
Why was she worried?
”Like I said. A derailed train is about as perfect as a metaphor gets for me. A trainwreck Ami.”
She frowned. Why was she spilling her heart to this kid? This kid who didn't even like her.

As they sat and talked, Riley felt like she was sinking in quick sand. Every comment that came out of Ami’s mouth pulled her further down. It was squeezing the air out of her lungs, and things were threatening to get dramatic.
They’d only broken up because they went to different colleges. She’d been like family. There hadn’t be any other serious relationships….until her.
Oh god. This was a serious relationship.
She was the first serious relationship Aurum had had since high school.
Riley looked at the door.
”On second thought I might just give him a call later.”
