The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ah. There was the familiar panic. A big step? Riley groaned and actually put her head in her hands as Aurum’s sister insisted that she share all the details. When had this turned into a girl talk session? When had Ami decided that she liked Riley? Too much…it really was all too much.
” Not…so fast.” she said, sinking down into one of the other chairs at the round table where Ami had set up her stuff.
”It was an accident, I’m sure of it. I think he was just too nice to take it back…” At least that was kind of what Riley hoped.
”Then we never got a chance to talk about things…” Because there’d been kissing, and elevators, and cuddling…but she wasn’t sharing that. No way in hell.
”I just…I need to know what he wants.” Sure...he'd told her that he wanted her to try...and she'd agreed. Still though...that was a lot...and and and...
Oh God. She was getting relationship advice from an teenager.

That was not what she had asked!
”That is not what I asked!” Riley exclaimed.
Maybe she had been planning to tell Aurum’s sister…but not until they’d had a long, detailed conversation about love and all the silliness that went along with it. Not just….BAM out the chute like this.
”My god. What do they do to kids in school these days? Seriously.”

”He’s…happy?”
Aurum was the most confusing man in the history of men.
Man. This was getting more and more difficult by the moment. All that was happening was that now there was guilt on top of everything else. She had to get this off her chest…she had to…had to…what?
Dammit, the point of all this mess was getting lost in translation because of Aurum’s stupid sister.
”I just need to talk to him…straighten some things out.”

Sheesh.
Riley wondered why the girl disliked her so much. Not that it mattered…but she was curious. Nothing specific had happened to cause the reaction, and most of the time Riley had a problem with people disliking her on principle.
Into the apartment she went. An hour wasn’t too long.
Ami had a laptop set up in the kitchen, and Riley made her way to the couch. It didn’t look like Svetlana was anywhere to be found either. This was both good and bad. The girl could be clingy…but she was someone to talk to other than Aurum’s unfriendly sister.
”Thanks.” she said, the deadpan look on her face obvious in her voice as she made her way to the couch to sit.

An hour…
Did she want to wait?
The way Ami was talking, it was tempting just to walk away.
Except then she might lose her nerve, or talk herself out of having this conversation with Aurum. That couldn’t happen. This might be the only time she had the nerve to have this conversation.
But wait a second.
”I want to talk to him.” she said. What more information did Ami need about the situation.

The person who opened the door….was not Aurum. It was his sister. The one who didn’t like her. From the way the girl was standing, it was obvious things hadn’t changed since Thanksgiving. Great.
“Hey…sup.”
What girl talked like that? Well. Riley wasn’t going to judge. There just wasn’t space for it at the moment, and the last thing she needed was to alienate a member of Aurum’s family.
What was up? Riley shrugged.
”I was just looking for Aurum. Is he home?” Geez. Why hadn’t she called first?

Man. This was just too much, and on top of everything, she’d had to deal with a pink haired idiot in the coffee shop she’d been trying to use to think. There were no solutions coming to mind, not immediately, and Riley was still trying not to panic over everything that had happened.
It was like she’d thought in the coffee shop, and several times since. If she kept avoiding Aurum, eventually he was going to stop trying to get in touch with her. What the hell was wrong with her anyway? What kind of girl freaked out because the guy called? The kind who knew that things like this were fleeting…that’s the kind. Only…Aurum never acted like things were fleeting, and it wasn’t like he was a giant liar or anything.
Sigh. This was too much, and there was only one way that things were going to get settled.
Riley left the coffee shop, still frazzled, still confused and frustrated, and headed for Aurum’s apartment.
If nothing else, she could yell at him for springing all of this on her, then distracting her with kisses and elevator shenanigans. Those things…she got. Those things…she could deal with. It was the rest that was a problem.
The trip didn’t take long, neither did finding the right door. There she stood, trying to figure out exactly what it was she was going to say when he opened the door.
’We need to talk.’ sounded dire. It was one of those things people said before they dumped you, and that’s not what Riley intended. She didn’t know what she intended. She was just going to wing it.
She raised a hand and knocked. What would be, would be.

Wow. Weirdo.
Who showed up at a random coffee shop and sat across from a stranger expecting a therapy session? He could direct her to a guy who knew all about his problems? His current relationship was ‘what not to do 101’.
Who? Cared?
Riley didn’t care. She had her own problems to deal with. Her head was full of them, and the last thing she wanted to do was pat someone else on the back and tell them it was going to be okay. Chances were, it wasn’t going to be okay, and the last thing she needed was to be responsible for illusions of romantic grandeur.
This whole thing was getting counterproductive, but she hadn’t decided on a course of action as far as this problem with Aurum was concerned. She couldn’t avoid him forever, or eventually he was going to stop trying. That’s not what she wanted...but she didn’t know what she did want.
She needed time to think.
”Well. Good luck with all of that. I’d tell you everything was going to be okay, but it probably isn’t, so I’d hate to get your hopes up.”

He was having trouble keeping up because it was cold. That was sad. Movement would help.
”No chance kiddo. I’m in a skirt.” she called over her shoulder. ”I’ll be in the diner just outside the park.” It was a quaint place with good burgers and hot coffee. The kid could like it, or go back to his penny collecting.
She entered the place to the sound of Christmas music and rolled her eyes. The whole damn city was obsessed with the holiday season. Christmas music was nice and all, but seriously...
Finding a booth, the brunette sat down and hailed a waitress.
”Double cheeseburger with fries and a cup of coffee. Everything on the side.” She said, ordering for the kid. He was delusional if he thought she’d let him order for himself. Riley knew the game, having played it herself a time or two.
