The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was a given that she had looked good in the shoot, and Aurum didn't make a big deal out of it. He also gave her a kiss for hitting him in the face with a pillow. That was something. Maybe he was a sadist and it had just been lurking under the surface all this time.
She smiled though, when Aurum pointed out that fast food was out of the question and office jobs were boring. He was right, and they weren't things she'd be remotely interested in doing...and that was deal-breaker.
Two more got checked off the list as time went on, but towards the end, she got interested again. When he was done talking, she pursed her lips.
"I don't think I could take a career seriously if I'd done shoots related to it...so that ousts the secretary and the librarian. Real estate sounds interesting though...think someone in my business would be taken seriously?"

Riley frowned more and more as Aurum spoke. Scrapbooking? What was she going to do, paste negatives from her photo sessions? Video Games? She couldn't remotely see herself in sweats with dirty cheeto fingers in front of a computer screen.
Reading, Writing, Arithmatic. Even though the last had been a joke, Riley laughed for the first time since this conversation had started.
The only thing that sounded remotely interesting was...the last one. It was something Riley had never considered, but the idea rang and bounced around her head like it had a life of its own.
"Maybe I will get another job." If nothing else, it would fill the time between shoots.
She glanced back at Aurum. "Don't know about the mechanic gig...though I did do a shoot like that once...." The end of the statement hung in the air.

Laughter was not what Riley had been expecting when she'd pointed out that she needed a hobby, but it was what she got.
Riley tried still...she tried to imagine herself doing some of the things that Aurum brought up. Knitting was ridiculous, there was no way she was patient enough to sit in one spot and make afghans. Baking was slightly less ridiculous, but she still couldn't cook an egg unless Aurum was standing right there to make sure she didn't burn it...so that wasn't a viable option either.
The brunette shrugged her shoulders and scowled slightly. "Haven't I ever told you that flattery gets you nowhere?" she said, then made herself a liar by smiling slightly.

Her day? Riley shrugged and thought about it for a moment before she did anything that resembled answering.
"I need a hobby. I didn't do a single solitary productive thing today."
She'd tidied up the apartment, but it hadn't really been that messy to begin with, then she'd read all the magazines in her apartment for the second time, then she'd watched boring day-time TV until Aurum had called.
Now that they'd established that everything was going to be okay, the kiss was excellent. She leaned into it and responded with gusto. She was serious when she pulled away though, and regarded Aurum for a few moments in silence. It was good that someone had been there to look out for that girl...she still just wished he hadn't belonged to her.
"What do you want to talk about." she asked, when she was done staring. The ice was starting to melt, but she wasn't quite done fussing yet, so it stayed where it was.
"The weather was nice today." she said, then blushed.

Riley nodded her head once as Aurum spoke, grabbing the blanket from the back of her couch and pulling into Aurum's lap. It was just water, and wouldn't hurt the blanket to soak up the water that had gotten on his pants.
That done, Riley scooted closer, tucking her legs under her so she could lean up on her knees and gently take the ice from Aurum's hand. Holding it gently against his eye, right where it was swelling the most, the brunette kissed his cheek.
"Good. He doesn't deserve your pity. Did someone take care of the girl?"

Somehow the mental image of Aurum using a hair dryer to dry his pants was one of the funniest things Riley had ever thought of. She giggled, and the giggle bubbled into a laugh. It helped that it had taken him a while to pick up on the age old trick.
Reaching up to grab Aurum's hand, she tugged gently, hoping he would sit back down on the couch next to her. "Sit down, that eye isn't going to ice itself. I'll help."
Curiosity was finally getting the better of Riley, and now that she'd decided to stop being angry, she was curious about the situation on the bus. "So they arrested the guy?"

The kiss made Riley sigh long and slowly. It was a sigh of relief, indicative of how worried she'd suddenly been about the situation. The kiss itself had been gentle and chaste, the kind of kiss that told a person that everything was going to be okay.
Riley had really needed that.
What she hadn't really needed was Aurum jumping up in the middle of everything. As he did so, something fell from his lap. Riley's eyes followed it down and landed on the dish towel she'd gotten him earlier. She couldn't help but laugh.
"I can't imagine that was comfortable..." she said, bending to retrieve the bundle from the floor.
"And I've seen this trick before, sir...no you cannot use my dryer to fix your pants." her eyes were twinkling with mirth now, as she offered him back his ice. His eye was blackening splendidly, and needed all the help it could get.

Riley frowned...Aurum sounded so unsure of himself when he told Riley he'd avoid giving her her way anytime. That's not what she'd been going for, she'd been trying to smooth things over.
"I'm serious..." she said...seriously. "I don't want you to think I want you to roll over and give me my way." This stuff was hard to say, and seemed contrary to the last several minutes of their night. It was true though, and somehow Riley thought it was important.
"I'm not easy to get along with." It was a statement, not bait for a compliment to the contrary.
"And I know it doesn't always seem like it, but your opinion matters."
Riley felt more naked than she ever had on a photoshoot as she sat on her couch next to Aurum, and she swallowed hard before raising her eyes to his.
"Can I do anything to make you feel better?" she whispered.

Wow Calley. Looks just like when the same thing happened to my car a few years back.
Glad you weren't in it...and can't believe the driver didn't stop. That really sucks. Hopefully Le Insurance is kind to you.
In other news, I'm going to be on vacation from Tuesday until Sunday. I'm not planning to take my laptop, so I really won't be around. My mom is having surgery on Tuesday when we get back, so I might be sporadic for a bit while I help her out, but should be around more after Sunday.

Aurum seemed to be enjoying the show...but man, he was kind of far away. Was it intentional? Did he want to leave now? Had she pushed him away? Would she ever see him again?
These kinds of feelings and this kind of anxiety were completely foreign to Riley and she found herself barely able to pay attention to the TV show. All the brunette could see was that the man in the equation had absolutely no taste, and no....manhood left.
Riley cast a glance at Aurum. Is that what she wanted? Someone who followed her around and gave in to her every whim just because he knew that he would have hell if he didn't.
Hell. No.
"Thank you for not giving me my way." Riley said, knowing the words sounded awkward, but not sure what else to say.

Well dammit. Now she felt bad...and that just didn't make sense. They'd argued...that's what people did when one of them did something moronic and almost got themselves killed far too often and the other person had to deal with it. It was the way of things. Wasn't it?
Riley didn't try to hide her frown, the situation warranted it. Was he throwing a guilt trip? Was this part of some kind of master plan to swing the situation in his favor?
In all honesty...Riley didn't really think so. Aurum just wasn't that devious.
Sighing because she didn't know what to do, the brunette made her way to the couch and sank down. Hopefully the ice would thaw a little bit, and her boyfriend would stop acting like a whipped puppy.

Aurum said thanks, and Riley just nodded her head. They were standing there now, and things were definitely a little awkward. Clasping her hands in front of her, Riley frowned. Aurum really did look a little worked over, and suddenly she felt kind of bad for making him think that she was going to kick him out.
"You want to watch some TV. I paused one of those house hunting shows where couples argue over whether or not to move to the suburbs and look at a bunch of places....."
If what she'd offered before was a twig...this was a California Redwood. "It's going to take that ice a while to work."

He followed, just like Riley knew hoped he would. They were going to be okay...she hadn't even realized she'd been worried until that moment, but again...the relief was palpable. Why did Aurum do that to her? Why did she keep asking herself that question?
The door was shut, but Riley wasn't quite ready to play nice yet, so she made her way to the kitchen to get Aurum the ice she'd promised. It didn't take her long, and she made her way back to the living room.
"Here." she said holding it out. It was still to be determined whether or not she was kicking his ass out after this.
