The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Elle ran off with the children, a big smile on her face. Her ribbon and pony tail bounced as she jogged off. Before her mother was completely out of sight, she turned and made eye contact. Her grey eyes met her mother’s blue ones. With a nod, the girl took off.
Henrietta grinned as she watched her daughter run off. “I’m glad she’s not being shy. It’s good for her to make friends. She’s usually not too good at talking. I have no idea where she gets that from.” The brunette smiled at her friends with a hint of sarcasm on her face.
The woman watched Twyla’s face and then noticed her hand tighten on her shirt. She did a pretty good job of acting okay with what was going on. After a few seconds, she really did seem okay. Henri smiled at her friend and lightly touched her arm. It wasn’t a big gesture and it wasn’t something that would seem out of the ordinary, hopefully. She knew Twyla would find someone and have cute little kids. She seemed very family-oriented.
Gawain offered a trip to the kitchen. The woman nodded and smiled. “I could go for some ice water. All this talking makes me thirsty.” Henrietta laughed and headed toward the kitchen instinctively. Her feet knew the way without her even thinking about it.
Henrietta had had her own room for quite a while now. If someone were to move in soon, it wouldn’t really matter. The brunette was a very tidy person and a very accepting person. She was good with most types of people and only half of the bedroom was really furnished. Henri had always suspected that she would get a roommate, though it hadn’t happened.
Lying alone in her room on her bed, she read a book by Darren Shan. She enjoyed his books, though they were quite dark. She guessed that most people wouldn’t think she would read such gory, graphically worded stories. She liked how different they were from most things. The brunette was still in her lime green, silk pajamas. She had showered already and had changed from one pair of pajamas to the other. Her long, brown hair lay splayed out on her pillow, creating a fan shape.
The girl sighed and laid the book down on her chest. She sat up quickly and her hair flew up. Standing up, she walked over to her dresser. The cell phone the Kabal had given her was on top of it. She picked it up and checked her messages and calls. There was still nothing. Henrietta wasn’t sure if she was relieved or disappointed by the lack of Kabal’s need for her. She wasn’t really sure what they’d use her for anyway, but still. The brunette stared at the phone, her bedroom door wide open.
The teenage boy turned back to her after putting out his cigarette. Henrietta smiled when he answered her about coming to see her room. He smirked at her and the brunette felt a fluttering in her stomach. They both sat on his bed now. The girl was quiet for a moment as he looked at her and then asked if they could be friends. Henri quickly turned and had her blue eyes meet his grey ones. Was he serious? She continued to look at him, this time with a confused look on her face.
“What kind of question is that?” Henrietta searched his face for something, anything. She let out a small, frustrated sigh. A second later she laughed and shook her head. “Of course I want to be your friend. Actually, I was even hoping you might—“ The brunette trailed off, her face turning red. “Um, I was hoping maybe we could even be more than friends.” She looked down at her hands as she rubbed them together nervously. “But, if all you want is friendship, that’s fine with me too. If we do go out and then end it, I’d want to be friends. Either way, yes, I’ll be your friend.”
Henrietta’s face was still tinted red, this time it was partially for her non-stop jabbering. She took a deep breath. “Okay. Sorry, let me start over.” The brunette cleared her throat slightly and looked Van in the eyes again. “I’d love to be your friend, but I do like you more than I like other guy friends I have. I’d be honored to call you my first boyfriend, if you’d let me.”
The brunette smiled when she saw the blush on his face. He explained that his brother was considered better looking. Henrietta’s brows knit together in puzzlement. After a moment, she began to speak. “Well, whoever said that is really insensitive. I find that everyone has a quality that makes them attractive. It’s hard to find in some people, but you have very nice eyes. That’s easy to see.” Henri looked at the boy. “And though it has nothing to do with your appearance, you’re a very nice person.”
Henrietta watched Kai juggle. “And you’re also a great juggler.” She laughed. “I can’t juggle for the life of me.”
Kai said he wasn’t pretty. Henrietta blinked and then began to laugh at the same time he did. He accused her of making him break character. The brunette smiled and shook her head. “I’m terribly sorry. Don’t worry though, I’m a horrible actress. You could probably beat me in an acting contest. And as to you being pretty, that’s good. Usually I think of girls as being pretty, not boys. You are cute though, so don’t worry.” She spun on the kitchen stool a whole turn and ended up facing Kai again. Henri didn’t mean it in a flirty way, just an honest one.
As Murielle and Henrietta waited at the door, it swung open. The first face she saw was Twyla, which was nice. The woman was still one of her best friends, after all. Henri's mouth transformed into a grin. “Twyla! So good to see you!” Her arms wrapped around the other woman. Twyla had bent over and smiled at the girl. Murielle smiled shyly, still kind of hiding behind her mother’s leg. She came out more when she recognized the face. “Hi, Twyla. You look pretty today. Mommy loves it when she gets to see you.” Henri laughed when her friend finally verbalized her confusion. “Yeah, I hadn’t told anyone. I wanted it to be a surprise.”
A loud noise came from down the hall. It was a running noise. Emerald’s son was now standing before the group of females. Murielle was out from behind her mother’s leg now and smiled when she saw Connor. She hadn’t seen him for quite some time, but she remembered that he was a very nice boy. There was also a girl, but she hadn’t made it out yet. After a moment, the girl materialized. Lilly hugged the air, or so it seemed. Henri grinned when she heard her mention Rupert. The boy’s mutation had already manifested. “Hello Connor, Lilly, and Rupert.” Murielle walked towards Lilly and the invisible boy. Since she knew the three, she was now comfortable with the situation.
Gawain hopped out of a nearby mirror. Henrietta smiled and Murielle turned to look at the man. The woman smiled and the little girl blushed when he told them they looked pretty. She tugged at her bow once again. Rupert materialized and Henri laughed. “Hey, Rupert. You look more and more handsome every time I see you.” Elle waved at the boy.
Henri watched nervously as Gawain introduced his old girlfriend to his son. The brunette glanced down at Murielle, glad to see that she wasn’t being very shy. Luckily, Elle had already met everyone here quite a few times.
The boy acted like he was fine and even laughed a little, but Henrietta figured his ego was bruised. She knew what it was like to get picked on. He actually seemed to not want help, but the girl had always hoped that a person would walk over and save her from the bullying. Unfortunately, everyone would glance her way and just walk on by. Of course, the people who had given her a hard time were usually the people she claimed were her friends. Some friends they were.
The kids that had hurt the winged-boy were trying to get all the females involved to leave them so they could go back to picking him. Henri felt her hand clench into a fist. The nerve of some kids. Did they really think they’d just leave them to continue their cruel game? “Wow, you’re a stupid bunch of brats, aren’t you?” The words were out of her mouth before she had much time to consider the consequences. After a moment, a hand came to her lips. Hopefully, the bullies were against hurting girls.
Henrietta was blown backwards when the boy’s wings came out. The brunette fell onto her butt and let out a “uff”. Wind whipped her hair around for a moment before she was able to see that the boy with wings had attacked the leader of the bullies. Her eyes widened as his yell turned into an angry screech, similar to that of an eagle. Her hands went to her ears instantly. The noise felt like it could’ve shattered her inner ear. It was a spectacular, but painful sound.
After a few seconds, another loud noise joined the cacophony of sounds. There were caws coming from the nearby tree once more. The girl looked in time to see a large group of ravens or crows swooping down from where they had perched moments before. Their attack was aimed towards her, the other woman, and the mean kids. Not many came for her, personally, but it was enough to make her flinch. She glanced down at her arm and noticed scratch marks or peck marks or something. Whatever it was, it kind of hurt.
Mr. Stein explained to Henrietta that the Order was a group of mutants that killed law officials. He had also said that they were similar to the X-Men. She didn’t really see how they could be alike when the X-Men attempted to work with cops. She supposed that her teacher meant that they both attempted to help mutants. Their tactics were quite opposite, but Henri could see how they wanted the same things, to a point. The brunette wondered how a group could just go around killing police. She couldn’t figure out how people couldn’t feel guilty about taking lives.
Henrietta listened as her defense teacher explained what he meant about the laws. Should mutants be held to the same standards as humans? If they weren’t, wouldn’t everything be crazy? Regular humans wouldn’t take well to that. Of course, Henri had joined the Kabal even though Slate told her that they broke some laws. If laws were broken to enhance everyone’s lives, that would be okay, right? The brunette sat quietly thinking. “I guess that we shouldn’t be held to a different set of laws. I think that even if our laws were different, we’d still break them. Someone would still break them. That’s the thing about laws. Plenty of people think they should live by a different set of rules for some reason or another.” The girl leaned her head back against the wall. “The Kabal breaks laws. I know that, but that just helps prove my point. People do whatever they want either way.”
Henrietta had gone outside, hoping to get some fresh air. She was bored and it seemed like everyone had something to do, except for her. The brunette’s hair was down and she wore a lime green sundress that came to a little above her knee. She wasn’t wearing any makeup and sported silver flats. A pair of small silver hoops picked up the sunlight and reflected it back off, which made then very noticeable. The teen walked around aimlessly, looking for something to do or someone to talk to. She did, eventually, come across something interesting. It wasn’t a good interesting though.
A mutant had been lying down. Something must've happened and a boy walked over and punched him. The teen’s eyes widened and she ran towards the group. When she neared, she noticed a woman asking them what was going on, but then heard a loud, bird noise come from one of the nearby trees. There was a girl in the tree along with a bunch of crows or something, cawing angrily at the boy who had punched the other boy. Henri blinked, slightly confused about the situation. After taking a moment, she walked up to the woman.
“Hey, what’s all this?” The girl’s blue eyes scanned over the group of kids that had seemed to be playing. She walked up to the boy who was punched and kneeled next to him. “Hi, are you all right? What’s going on?” Henrietta noticed the glasses broken on the ground. She picked up the shattered things and looked to the boy. “Your glasses are busted all to pieces. Do you have another pair?” The girl’s features were soft. Henri wasn’t sure if she should touch him or not. Carefully, the girl put her hand on his shoulder. “I can help you up if you need it.” A smile spread on to her freckled face. “I’m Henrietta Braun. What’s your name?”
Kai began to tell Henrietta about his twin brother, who had left to go back home. She thought it was kind of ridiculous that Cam had practically dragged Kai here, and then decided he was the one who wanted to go back home. He forced someone to move to New York because he wanted to, but then decided to leave that person here. Henri saw the smile, though she could sense the pain in it. Henrietta always used to smile, even when she was sad. That way, none of her old ‘friends’ could make fun of her more than they did.”
“I miss parts of my home.” The brunette glanced down at her hands and picked at a cuticle around her finger nail. “I wasn’t much for making friends and my mom didn’t want me there anymore after my mutation showed up. There were some girls that used to invite me over if other people were there, but only because I never spoke up. I was just kind of there.” She looked up at the boy and gave him a faint smile. “I don’t know anything at all about my dad, so my options were a bit limited when it came to shipping me off. Mom learned about the Mansion and decided it was perfect because I needed to ‘be with my own kind’. Whatever that’s supposed to mean.”
Henrietta shook her head at the boy’s question. “I don’t think you’re weird at all. I kind of feel the same way. I really didn’t want to come here either, since it was just because my mom was embarrassed, but I love it here. It’s so much easier to be me and make friends. People compliment me and tell me I’m pretty and nice and that my mutation is cool.” A grin spread across her face. “I was never this happy back home.”
Mr. Stein made an offer that surprised the young woman. He offered to make a program to help her test her limits. The brunette stared out into the darkness. Limits of humanity? Was it to see how far she would go in a bad situation? To see if she could hurt someone or kill them? Henrietta was a little freaked out, but understood what he was saying. He wanted to know what she was capable of, and to an extent, so did Henri. The thing was, what if she wasn’t the person she had always thought she was. What if she could do horrible things and get so used to it that it became second nature? She didn’t want to find out if that would be the outcome. It would be too hard for the girl to take. Too confusing.
Henrietta listened as her self-defense teacher explained his meaning. Adhere to a philosophy of philanthropy? Wow, he likes big words. I know what they mean and all, but I never think to talk like that. The brunette noted that he sounded much older than he appeared. He sounded very mature. Her head turned toward where the man’s voice was coming when he mentioned ‘the Order’. “What’s the Order? I’ve never heard of them before now. I’m guessing they aren’t very kind people, if they’re the opposite of the X-Men, which ‘adheres to philosophy of philanthropy’.” Henri echoed the man’s words, wanting to hear what they sounded like coming from her young mouth. They sounded a little less serious, but the meaning was still conveyed.
Another conundrum? “Which standards of legality…” The girl repeated the words quietly. “I don’t mean to sound dumb, but are you asking if the Kabal should have different laws than other people? I guess I’m confused about the ‘standards’ part. I’m not quite sure what you mean when you say that.” Henrietta got quiet, waiting to hear his response.
Mr. Stein explained to Henrietta what the Kabal was about. The girl nodded to herself in the dark and then turned to where the man’s voice was coming from. Reach a common goal? Henri wondered what exactly most people were trying to reach. Slate had made it sound like it was for everyone to get along, but she wasn’t so sure that was all there was. There was a lot of violence, as far as she could tell. If peace was the goal, would violence really work? Henri understood the need for war at certain times, but war never did much for peace. The brunette closed her eyes to the darkness and took a deep breath.
What people can be driven to? That sounded a bit scary and dark. Henrietta wondered if her teacher spoke from experience. He seemed to know a lot about sadder things. It made the girl wonder what could’ve happened to him. She would never ask him that though because if something terrible had happened, bringing it up could hurt him. “I’m not sure if I’m the type of person that can be driven to be a hard person. I’m not really a cold person, by nature. I hate seeing people upset and I guess I’m more of a sad person than anything.” The girl felt the cold wall through the back of her shirt.
Cuddling or disemboweling? The girl’s blue eyes widened. Uhhh. Scary…Well, I’m just glad he doesn’t disembowel, though he probably thinks that I’m a cuddler. It kinda seems like he’s hinting at me being soft. The girl rolled her eyes and made a slightly annoyed face. “What exactly do you mean by cuddling? I don’t expect anyone to just be all nice to a horrible person who’s responsible for deaths and tyranny. That’s a stupid thing to ask of anyone. If I met someone who has done horrible things to people who were innocent, I’d yell at them and maybe punch them in the face. But, I don’t think I could kill said person. I’m not saying I never want to deck people or kick them in the crotch, I’m just saying I’m not super violent.” The brunette became quiet and then laughed quietly to herself. “Sorry, I don’t mean to sound crazy.”
The brunette smiled slightly when he said it wasn’t his best time. She appreciated that he was himself in front of her. Some people pretended to be something they’re not, like she used to do. Fortunately, meeting the people she had, she learned that she was fine just the way she was. A little spastic and random at times, but fine. Most people found Henrietta Braun to be a kind, generous person.
Kai shared that he had a flower business. “Wow, you have your own shop?” Henri laughed. “I bet you’re excellent at it, considering your mutation. Plants do seem to like you quite a bit.” The girl tilted her head slightly when she caught the ‘uh’ in business partner. She wanted to ask, but was a tad worried that something bad had happened to that person. I’ll just go for it. “May I ask where your partner went?”
He offered his secret ingredient to her. Henrietta shook her head and smiled. “Thank you very much, but I couldn’t do that. It’s your secret. Let’s say someday you’ll decide to make sandwiches and then I open one. We’d be rivals, right? That’d be bad.” She laughed. “You keep it, Kai. Maybe you’ll decide to open a shop when you grow up. You never know.”
