The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

His expression faltered, falling into confusion as she said that he would have to wait for his wife to show back up.
She didn't know? Oh god... She didn't know. His back was still faced toward her when she yelled back at him. He replied with only silence, his shoulder slumping a bit. He fought back tears just as she did, though he didn't show her.
"She's not coming back... Only the gas is temporary... The injections aren't reversible. You're how you're gonna be." His eyes stayed fixed on the ground at his feet.
He sighed, shaking his head a little bit. It was the first time he'd said it himself. It made it feel more real to say it outloud. Damn. He was going to cry again. Twice in one year.

A crash like this wasn't exactly new for him. He did pit maneuvers in squadcars all of the time, and he had managed to slow a fair amount before hitting the pole. He didn't stop to think that she hadn't experienced anything like this before. The Shelby he knew was... a little more hardened. Mean, she'd all but killed Roach. Someone else finished the job, but she'd ruined him, on all accounts.
He looked to her incredulously. "Do I look like an idiot? Why would I drive with my eyes closed if I couldn't?! I can see without my eyes, mostly." She didn't know that. How could she know that? He just. He needed a second. He needed a second to think and she just kept pushing.
He looked at the new dent on the front of the car, hood bent in a little bit. Damnit... There could be all sorts of leaks and seal breaks, frame tweaks. He would have to give it a full once over before he drove it any long distance again. He looked back to her with a raised eyebrow as she climbed out of the window.
Why?
"What do I want from you?! I want my goddam wife back! Can you do that? No. No you @#$^in can't." He turned away for a second, rubbing his forehead. Jesus, what a @#$^y thing to say. She didn't do anything to deserve this... He wasn't mad at her, he was mad at... everything. This world. God, if one existed. He leaned against the car and took a breath.
"Look... Just... get in. The house isn't far. I'll drive slow..."

He deflated, She deflated. The car was flat for a moment. He nodded, eyes still closed as told him she wasn't mad. He wasn't either. Was he? Terrified. That was more of a word for him.
He'd rather be fighting a room full of people who wanted to strip him and sell him for parts. At least then he would know where he stood. He changed lanes to go around someone as they neared a red light, and suddenly he heard her talking, and felt her bolt forward to grab the steering wheel. "whuh- @#%$!"
She grabbed the wheel, which turned the car to the right a bit. He jerked it the other way and overcompensated, pushing on the breaks just a little too late, and causing them to bump into a lamp post at a relatively slow speed.
He reached out a hand for her in reflex, stopping her kinetic force so she didn't get banged up. He, on the other hand, winced a little bit as the airbag deployed, and he was pushed into his seat aggressively by it.
Coughing and batting down the airbar, he cursed ."What the hell! What'd you do that for?!" He started to climb out to check the damage on his relatively new car.
Oh, was she having some regrets? Was she now? "I hope not. like I said, I only have so many pairs of pants." He muttered as he ran a very orange light.
She got on him about his speeding. She always did that. He knew how to drive in the city! "Really? We are getting into this again? You don't even remember me, and we're getting into this. #@$%in brilliant. I know how to drive. Hell, you make me drive everywhere, tellin me I don't know how to drive."
She asked what she was supposed to talk about if she couldn't ask questions. He gritted his teeth. "That's a question. I just said-" He shut himself up. Jesus, why was he being such an ass?
"I'm... #@$%, I'm sorry. I just... I'm having a hard time... with this. With... All of this, okay?" He closed his eyes for a solid moment, still driving, by the way, but using his sixth sense to feel the way. It calmed him sometimes.
He didn't stop to think that she had no idea he even had a sixth sense.
"No I don't get a lot of- What kinda f$#%in question is that? I just thought- It doesn't matter what I- GET THE #@$% OFF THE ROAD GRAMA- some of the people they let drive in this city- I just- I thought it was somethin... @#$%in you would do." He shook his head as he swerved around an old lady driving five under the speed limit. He definitely gave her the finger.
Was she? He looked to her, then the road, and back and forth a few times rapidly. She was laughing at him. What was funny about this? "Well, I dunno, be more careful next time!" He caught her grabbing the oh shit handle and rolled his eyes a bit. She commented on his pants. "My pants looked just fine before, and they're gonna look just fine after you get all this off of them." He muttered as he changed lanes to pass another person.
She asked when they decided to have Jr. He bluescreened, shaking himself out of it quickly. "C'mon, I said no questions yet, alright? I mean it. How'm I gonna answer something that complex with alla this goin on while I'm driving?" She shook his head again.
#@$% he was just so grumpy! It was almost like all of this tension was something he naturally channeled into aggression as his coping mechanism, which worked well when he could just go out and fight criminals to blow off steam, but here? All he could do was squirm. He hadn't felt like this in years. Not since... Not sice Andrea had gone missing what? Ten years ago, and he knocked down the golden doors of the sancutary to get her back.
And here he was, sitting feet away from his beautiful wife, who didn't know him, and was making fun of him. @#$%.
"Well how the @#$% am I supposed to know that?! An' don't call me a dummy! Anyone woulda thought what I thought!" He swerved a little as he looked to her, raising his voice just a little as he stepped onto the defensive. He corrected quickly again, gritting his teeth again.
"Oh, come on, alright! It was a misunderstanding!" He shook his head. Jesus, he was covered in paint. He looked down a few times. Greens, golds, blues. Awesome. Just awesome. It was drying super fast on him, too. Obviously it was a bad sign that he'd driven away on her, but he thought... What did he think? That she was just as afraid as he was, maybe.
She started asking him about cleaning supplies. How was he supposed to know about any of that?! He wasnt' the artist, she was. "Acetone? I don't even know what that is. You got paint cleaning stuff there, yeah. Can- Can you just wait with the questions? I gotta @#$%in landscape on my goddam crotch, here, and I gotta focus on drivin."
He could tell when she was trying to hold back a laugh. He knew her. Well, not her, her, but HER!
"It ain't funny. I don't got a lotta clothes like you do." He grumped something fierce as he took a turn at just a little faster than one should. He didn't seem to mind or notice, considering he always drove like this.
There was a pregnant pause after he asked about heading to the house. She'd stared off into space. Aw Crap. She wasn't ready, was she? He'd scared her off. Shelby stated she needed to get her paints.
He frowned a bit, and nodded slightly. As she unclasped her necklace, he rubbed the back of his neck, and looked down at his car's dashboard through the window. Aw, crap, he'd gotten a ticket. He looked up to take the necklace. The piece she was leaving him to, what, remember her by? Like he could forget... No, that was her job.
He sighed as she disappeared into the wall once more. Why didn't he stop her? A long sigh preluded his arrival at the notion that he was also terrified of all of this.
How could be blame her for leaving?
After standing there a couple of minutes, he took a deep breath, and turned to climb into the car. Speeding off at his usual speed, he started toward the house. Colin would be there with Jr. He needed to see them right now.
Pop! "SH#@!" He swerved a bit as she appeared in on the center console and spilled a wet painting on him, barely correcting course in time not to go over the curb.
"I left?! You left! You even gave me a memento!" Wait, so she hadn't ghosted him?! Oh #@%^! He'd ghosted her! @#$%in @#$^! What an @#$hole!
He tried to pay attention to the road as he tossed the painting to the side, looking at the wet paint in his lap. "crap..."
He saw something in her expression as he walked back up from the short confrontation with the monster. Something that made him pause for a half second. It was that, 'I'm into you right now' sort of look that he'd grown to know meant good times were near over the years... But in this situation it was oddly unsettling. He set his jaw, and walked onward.
"No Problem." He took her hand. It wasn't like it was anything, right? She just needed to use her powers, that's all.
Pop! Woah. They were back? No, not quite. It was... a painting of the park? They'd moved to another art piece? He looked around questioningly as he realized that there was another her here. Someone had been painting her? He felt his hackles raise for a second before taking a the quiet breath. Why would he be mad about that?
They moved on, and what followed felt like a strange dangerroom session of a sort. When had she learned to walk from painting to painting? That's what he gathered was going on here. It was like... some sort of dimensional travel.
Pop! They were out on the street again. The real, honest city street. He took a breath, scanning the surroundings for a moment before nodding at the sight of his car. "That's the one." He let go of her hand.
Walking up, he couldn't help but open the door for her. Force of habit. "So... to the house? Do you... want to meet Jr?"

As he returned to his... wife? Not wife? Technically, she never married him, but he'd definitely married her, he had a sort of wide smile on his face. He clearly liked hitting things to some degree.
"Oh, uh, sure, if you want to take us there. you, eh.. You can?" He looked around, somewhat confused by her statement. She knew how to travel long distances now? That was new... That explained why she'd been so hard to pin down...
"Yeah, I'm game! I'd love to see what you can do!" He smiled a bit, walking up to her, stopping himself from reaching out to drape an arm over her shoulder. Muscle memory was a weird thing, but he was in charge of his own faculties enough to know that she wouldn't be expecting any contact, and might not be comfortable with it.
Damn, he really couldn't get over how strange this all was. His wife was right in front of him. She looked at his face like he was pretty much a stranger. What was he supposed to do? He couldn't just... expect things to go back the way they were. Take it slow. Find out the game plan.

"Yeah, you still do... Wanted to paint JR's room all planets and stuff. I uhh... Yeah, you say that stuff to me. Most of it sorta goes over my head, I guess. I like space and all, but I gotta lot here that takes up most of the space in my head, y'know?"
He raised an eyebrow when she asked if he'd met her dad. "Yeah, yeah, he's watching JR right now. I woulda gone insane if Collin hadn't been there. He's here, you know? He moved into town about a year ago." Collin was going to cry when he saw her. The guy was a big softie.
Not that Saph hadn't come close a couple of times already. "Yeah, you got one. It's got your art and videos and stuff on it. I dont really use mine a whole lot, bein honest. Time and all."
He watched her pull out her phone. "Heh... When I saw mine as a kid, It just confused me. Didn't know phones would ever look like that back then."
She started to say something, but a giant monster appeared. As she reached out to grab Saph, she would see him a good fifteen feet away from her, and toward the beast, hobblesprinting at impressive speed as he pulled back a fist, launched himself forward, and swung with all of the might he'd gotten from falling from the sky to land in front of her.
THUD! .... SPLASH!
He knocked the giant monster into the lake once more, standing toward the edge and staring into the water intimidatingly for a long moment. "What was that? Oh, right, yeah, we can go grab my phone and car... I left it on fifth and franklin."
"You don't- Oh, yeah, right, memories. Danger room.. eh... Magic box that makes holograms of hard light... Anything can be made in it. You asked me to marry you in outer space. Planets and everything."
He looked over to her as she apologized for being flaky. "Yeah, a little over four...It's not your fault. Like you said... You were alone and confused and stuff."
He smiled as she reacted to Clarence. "Yep, that was Collin. You liked it, though. Then again, you'd do anything to make your dad smile after... uh..." @#$%in idiot. Let's remind her of the worst experience of her life over and over again. Brilliant.
"We drove. You really wanted to. Best week of my life." He took a good look at her; it was the first time he'd managed to just... look at her, without feeling the need to turn away, or glance to the side. She almost seemed excited, didn't she? To see herself, older, with him. He didn't know what to make of it.
"Oh, eh, yeah. You tended to put a lot up on MyFace... But I would get you sleepin sometimes. Always liked how peaceful you looked when you slept." He dug for his phone, before paling a bit when he realized he left it in the car... across town. "Uh... Phone's not on me, though... Sorta... Came here in a hurry." Didn't want her to just into a painting... like this, he supposed.
"Got more of JR... Sorta been taking a lot more since you disappeared. Wanted you to see him growin..."

He let out a deep breath when she mentioned knowing about her mother's passing. He didn't want to see her have to experience that all over again for the first time. All of this hurt too much already. She forgave his slip of the tongue as well. And... She offered him a hand.
He reached half way, but then faltered. Damnit, she looked just like her. Didn't she understand? He waved his hand a little bit, and set his own on his knee.
"I don't do a lot of interviews... Papers got enough to say about me." looked down, brooding quietly for a bit as she tried to drive the conversation. She spoke about dissociating. He shook his head a bit. "I dunno..."
She changed the subject, thankfully. He looked up and leaned back, taking a breath. "Ahhh, well... You proposed. Made a whole grand thing of it in the danger room. Probably one of the most amazing things anyone's ever done for me... We got hitched in Vegas. Wanted to make a quick thing of it. Jr is three and a half and growin like mad." He resisted shifting a bit when she leaned in, allowing himself a small smile.
"You insisted after I brought it up once...I knew you weren't excited for it, but you got it in your head I wanted it, and were set on it after. His name was almost Clarence."

Okay. She was doing okay. Okay. That was okay.
None of this was okay.
she said it was fine. She said everything would be fine. As much as he needed to hear it, it just sounded insane. He felt her shift on the bench to face him. He looked up at her. His heart skipped a beat. He fought hard to maintain eye contact. The way she spoke. It was as much the same as it was different.
"Uh... yeah, sure." He replied weakly, shifting in his seat to face her a bit more, and sit up straight.
She asked what their first date was like. He tensed a bit. What a question. She really didn't know anything. "Uhm... well... I should tell you... For... Half of our relationship. Before JR. Eh... There was this guy. More a monster, I guess. He was after you. That's how we met, you and I. I saved you when he tried to kill you. After that it sorta... I dunno. You were in protective custody, and I was protecting you. Other cops, too, but." He looked up for a moment, and then over to her again.
"I fell for you. We spent a lot of time with you sorta hidden away, and our first real date, outside... He attacked. Roach. He took a lot from you, babe- sorry... Shelby. He... What do you know?" Jesus, he was going to have to tell her, wasn't he? She was going to find out from him.

21... She was just over half his age. Jesus. @#$%. He gripped the railing of the park bench and nodded, his head fixed on the path the bench sat alongside.
"Yeah... I just got hit with the gas... It's temporary. And... Sorta. I guess. It's a bit of blur. I started looking for people I knew back then. Didn't know they were dead..." God, she was just so hard to look at. She looked just like her. She WAS her. He wanted to grab her up, and hold her, and tell her everything was going to be okay. In truth, he was the one who probably needed that.
"Saphirus Jr... We just call him Jr, because, let's be honest, the name is silly. I... I have a daughter as well. Elke. Adopted. She's in college." He couldn't look back at her. He tried, but it burnt his soul more than staring at the sun.
His knuckles were white. He looked like he was crawling in his own skin. He'd wanted to find her so bad. What was he expecting? Did he think this was going to go well? Why did he think that? No, no... he needed to find her. She could have been lost, confused... alone.
"How... How have you been managing? This isn't seattle... have you been okay?"

Jesus, he could hear his heartbeat in his ears. Was he going to have a goddam aneurism? He closed his eyes for a moment, and opened them again. She came into view again, chewing on her lip. She used to do that when she was nervous. Well... Apparently, that other woman used to do that.
He swallowed his throat as she cleared hers. He watched her quietly as she spoke. He needed to sit down. "I... I did. I was turned young too. I... Just... got better fast." He turned away, rubbing his face with his hands before turning back as she went on. A needle in her leg. His heart hit the ground. "Injection..." The reports were saying the injections made it permanent. He clenched his jaw, turning away again.
She wasn't her. She didn't want kids. She didn't know who he was, or what they had. And she was never going back to how she was. "I... need... I need to take a seat or somethin..." He looked around for a park bench, numbly walking toward the first one he saw.
Assuming she followed, he took a seat and placed his head in his hands for a moment before looking up. "... How old are you?"
