The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Skye was still getting used to living in New York, and living on her uncle's pull out couch was a nice gesture, it left a lot to be desired when it came to personal space. However, in a rare bout of solitude, Skye found herself home alone; Blaine had just left to go to the gym, and to her utter shock, Lee didn't actually live with them. Then again, she was also shocked to find they weren't married, but really that was none of her business.
Since she was alone, she opened up one of her suitcases, revealing that it had several VHS tapes in it, along with her DVD and CD collections. Her focus, was the tapes. How thankful she was that Blaine had a VCR...
Popping one of them in, she sat on the couch, which was currently not pulled out, and then she pressed play. The recording started right at the introductions. On the screen, was a fresh-faced, clean shaven, Blaine, dressed in a pair of black shorts with green pinstripes, and nothing else. His tattoos were on full display, and aside from less scars and wear and tear, he looked roughly the same. She sat on the edge of the couch, even though she'd seen this multiple times. Hell, she loved them so much, her grandparents made her her own copies.
The bell rang, and her brown eyes were glued to the screen, despite knowing almost every move of every fight.

It was quite obvious that Skye was rather out of place right now. She nodded slightly at the stranger's words, though she was unsure of what to say, so she turned slightly to peer at the books she could see, but to no avail; nothing caught her eye. However, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm down, she did manage to get the lightshow to stop flickering. With a smile, she nodded again, this time looking up at the fellow mutant, and pulling the hood down to reveal her face.
"Thanks, but you were here first," she said softly, thinking about it for a moment. "Though it's kinda cramped for two people of any size, I think..." she giggled a little. "I mean...if I can't fit, there may be a problem." She bit her lip a little as she thought, stepping out of the room for a moment, the book still under her arm. "We can always look in shifts," she said with a small shrug. Granted, she realized she probably needed to keep her purchasing to a minimum; after all, there was only so much one could hide in a couch. And she didn't exactly want her uncle or her 'aunt' to find anything she bought today.

Skye looked up over the top of her book as the other....person.?....spoke. It was only then she realized the sheer size of her...reading companion. The purple light didn't go away, it's constant flicker reminding her of how nerve-racking and awkward this was.
"You don't have to," she murmured softly as she tucked the book under her arm. "Really? I mean....I wouldn't know. I just got here about two days ago...saw this bookstore and sorta...wandered in," she said with a slight shrug.
It was then she realized she was blocking the only exit. Blushing slightly, she saw that there was just enough space for her to squeeze through. And so, turning so she was facing the stranger, she slid sideways into the opening. Only to realize....she wasn't little enough...
"Oh! I...sorry...I thought I could..." She blushed deeply, her hands now pulsing with a purple light.

It seemed that ever since Skye had arrived in New York a couple of days ago, her hair spent a great deal of time in a purple hue, often accompanied by a faint flicker from her hands. Of course, this was her first time away from home on her own, though technically this was her home now, she supposed. Either way, nerves were a given, though not many people had an emotion-by-color thing going on. Today though, was exceptionally purple. She was out and about for the first time since her plane landed(at 3 in the bloody morning, of all times).
Her black hoodie was pulled over her purple hair, zipped tight and her hands were stuffed in the pockets. She wore a pair of torn, faded blue jeans, which the cold was making her regret. So, she ducked into a bookstore, taking the hood down as she looked around, wandering the rather cramped, awkward shelves. But a bookstore was a bookstore. And to her...that was sanctuary. Walking upstairs, she found a curtained alcove with a simple sign on notebook paper. Her hands flickered purple light, just a little as she pulled the hoodie over her head. Maybe a peek inside wouldn't hurt...after all she was a perfectly capable adult. Who never actually did this in public. She normally got her more "romantic" novels online. From the safety of her computer. But Uncle Blaine didn't have a computer. Honestly, her bedroom was a couch in the middle of an apartment at the moment.
Nonetheless, she slipped inside the alcove very carefully, her hands flickering with a purple light as she saw someone in there already reading. She quietly browsed the books before settling on one and pressing herself into the corner and...previewing...the first few pages. After a few seconds, her hair turned a shade of pink, the alcove occasionally lit up by a flash of pink light, then once she realized what was going on, it went back to purple. This is why I do this at home...

Skye laughed at the Disco comment, and her lights died down, her hair still blue. But she was starting to calm down.
"Not quite. But I am quite the spectacle at a concert. Or a rave, she answered with a slight grin, but then it faded as she got more serious.
"This here's the fun part. But...when I get too stressed out or frazzled...there's this bright flash of white and a loud...bang. It leaves me weak and my ears ringing, and anyone nearby is affected by it. From what I understand it's very disorienting." she said, looking down. "All I know to do is keep my emotions in check, but... that isn't the easiest thing to do." She looked back up with a weak smile.

"Yeah...it's...not going so well. Well, I've been told after this last table I can call it a day," she replied, sliding into the chair across from her. "And this is just me training. I can't imagine what it'll be when I'm the only one going from table to table..." she murmured with a shake of her head.
At the mention of her power, the light stopped flickering, and she smiled. "Thanks. It's pretty harmless, though. Usually..." she murmured, figuring since this was her last table, she could stay awhile.

With another nod, she jotted that down as well. " I'll have your beer shortly, and the sandwiches should be right behind," she said simply, deciding not to go on a spiel about how her day had gone. Luckily her shift ended soon, but she had to wonder...if she couldn't handle a half-day, what would a full day be like?
She turned and went back to the kitchen to put the order in, and then filled a tray with beer mugs and went to place them at her other tables before heading back with her one last mug for the attractive woman in blue. But on her way, she didn't see the person in the nearby booth whose bag was farther out in the walkway than intended, and her foot caught, sending her, and the beer, crashing to the floor.
Her hair turned from purple to a solid blue, her hands lighting up the area with a blue light of the same color as she picked herself up. She quickly gathered the beer mug and tray as someone else grabbed a mop. Then, moments later, she returned with the sandwich and a new mug, her hands still flickering with the blue light, and she set it on the table. "H-here you are. En-enjoy..." she murmured, trying to put her cheery voice back on, but she couldn't find it.

Skye nodded. "Beer and a sandwich," she repeated, jotting that down as she thought a moment, trying to remember. "Um...I know they make a grilled cheese...and they can add bacon...and peppers and onions..." Her hands began to flicker purple again as the nervousness set in. She breathed deeply, trying to focus.
"There's also club sandwiches, turkey or ham with Swiss, American or...provolone...and....oh! They have sliders that are pretty good," she said, her confidence wavering a little as she spoke. At least the woman was pretty.

Skye was thankful that her uncle was able to call in a favor and get her a job, but at the same time, she was sort of wishing that Blaine had more friends with cushy desk jobs. But beggars couldn't be choosers. And this job at a bar and grill seemed decent enough, for a place where she served beer and wings to people all day. And it was mutant friendly, so as long as she could keep it together enough, her powers wouldn't nova and she was nothing more than dinner and a light show. And due to first day jitters, her hair was a deep purple.
And despite having some experience....her first day hadn't been going well. Already she'd dropped a few dishes, missed a few orders, and had to field some not nice comments. But thankfully she managed to keep her emotions staved off to a flicker. Which...actually was quite entertaining to some. In fact, her powers coupled with sympathy landed her a few tips, despite not doing very well.
After handing a table their check, it seemed to die down for a bit as she saw a woman in blue enter. Putting on a smile, her hair faded to a slightly lighter shade of purple, her hands no longer flickering for now.
"Welcome. My name's Skye and I'll be taking care of you," she said, nervously recalling the words.

Neither Blaine nor his niece noticed Lee leave; as they were talking about different things, mostly about the family at first, and how Al still cared for both of them, he just didn't know how to express it, or address the fact that they were mutants. But it made Blaine feel good that his older brother still loved him, and that Skye coming here was to help her get a grip on her powers instead of an act of malice.
Skye worked on her soda while Blaine popped open a beer, and their talk moved to other things. After all, a lot had happened over the course of thirteen years.
"I worked as a bouncer for different bars and clubs across the city; I'm sure if I called in a favor, I could get you on as a waitress, or you could learn to tend bars, or what have you. Most of the jobs I can get you do fall in this environment though, but some are mutant friendly, so you should be okay."
Skye merely nodded as she drink her soda, and then Lee walked back in...loaded down with bags. Blaine merely gave a snort; he was learning to understand that sometimes this kind of thing was easier for Lee because of her powers, but damned if she was going to outdo him.
"How many are left?" he whispered. "I think two..."
With a nod, Blaine hopped up and made his way out the door before coming back with both suitcases and setting them on the floor. "I'm sorry the place isn't bigger, but I'll help you get on your feet, anyway. As long as it takes."
"Thanks, Uncle Blaine, Aunt Lee," she murmured, stifling another yawn.
Blaine blinked, unknowingly turning a bright red. "Aunt?"
"Yeah, but I haven't exactly heard from aunt Candace either, so I don't really know..." she murmured softly. Then she bit her lip a little. "I'm glad he still seems to be as cool as he was when I was little. I mean, there was really no way of knowing," she said with a shrug. Though she did rather like the fact that her uncle had a woman around that she could bond with. That made things a little less stressful for her.
About that moment, the door clicked open, and Blaine stepped inside, bags of groceries--and beer, all loaded on one arm. "Hey Lee, and..." he paused as he noticed the girl in the hoodie on his couch.
"Hey, Uncle Blaine...remember me?" A small smile formed on Blaine's face.
"Skylar Jade?"
The girl's hair turned purple at the mention of her full name. "It's...just Skye now, but yeah. I uh..kinda need a place to stay, if you don't mind me asking..."
He noticed the hair changing, and a slight pulse of light, but it didn't take him that long to realize that was probably why she needed a place to stay.
"Well...there's the couch...It's actually a pull-out, though I've never used it. It's yours as long as you need it," he said as he took the bags to the kitchen and started putting away the groceries. "If this is an extended stay, and if all those suitcases downstairs are yours, I'm assuming it is...I can probably pull a few strings and get you a job." he said from the kitchen, suddenly smiling as it sank in that Lee had been cleaning.
Then, he made his way back to the living area. "It's nice to see you after all these years. You're all grown up now. Last time I saw you, you were showing me how well you'd learned math."
Skye smiled slightly, her hair flickering from purple to more of a content indigo.
"Yeah...the control part is what scares me. Under pressure, there's this flash of white light, and this loud bang. It's...pretty bad. I can handle the light show..." she murmured, settling into the couch. "He does; he cares about Uncle Blaine too, but my dad's family seems to have...communication problems. Like they don't know how to talk about taboo stuff like mutants and your family being one," she added with a shrug. "I'll have a soda, if you have any. Or water. I don't really do coffee..."
She looked over at Lee again, this time smiling. "Thanks, though. For keeping me company, and talking through this. I've never really had that...I'm starting to think this was a good idea, after all."

"It makes sense to me, anyway. As long as you don't plan on dumping him tomorrow, or anything," she replied with a small shrug, stifling another yawn.
"Yeah...my mom used to verbally abuse me just to get a rise out of me, then call the police because my power went...beyond the cute little light show you see right now. See, the more emotional I am, the more intense it gets. It won't shut off now because I'm in a new place. But my Dad divorced her for this and she still got the house, and custody of me. But when I turned seventeen I moved in with my dad, and...well, we tried. He was supportive, but we just...can't manage. So here I am..." She gave another nod.
"Well, the only way I can control it at the moment is to stifle my emotions, but...that's not hard to do," she said, bu as she spoke, she steadied her breathing, since she was relaxing, and the rest of the purple faded into brown as the light in the room disappeared. "See? That's the best I can do though, and this is only because I'm getting a little more comfortable."

She shook her head, biting her lip at the answer. "My parents...divorced. My mom wasn't happy when my...this..." She took her hands out of her pockets, then removed the gloves, the room lighting up in a purple light as the flickering was more prominent, "surfaced. My Dad was supportive, but as a defense attorney who often defended mutants....well, having a daughter who couldn't control her own powers kinda messed that up, and...I have trouble keeping jobs to help out. So I got this idea that maybe...maybe Uncle Blaine could help, somehow. My Dad did most of the legwork on this, actually..."
She looked at the floor, biting her lip. "My dad supports and loves me, but...he doesn't really understand, ya know?" She looked over at Lee with her big, brown eyes as she bit her lip again. Sure, she'd spilled a lot about herself, but...technically Lee was family, at least the way Skye saw it.
"So...you're my uncle's girlfriend," she said after awhile. "Do you mind if I call you Aunt Lee, or is that a no-go?" She asked giving a small smile as the light and the color in her hair began to fade a bit and she relaxed little by little.

Sighing again, she took a breath and stepped inside, checking out the...well rather small apartment. Then, she moved to the couch and plopped down with a small yawn. Her hair slowly turned from blue to a more mild purple as she cycled through emotions yet again, but that was to be expected seeing as how she was an eighteen year old female who'd never left the state of Maine before now, where she was all alone in New York City with some woman she'd never met and an uncle she hadn't seen since she was in first grade.
"Yeah...uh...my name's Skye, by the way," she murmured as she looked around the room. "So...are you Uncle Blaine's wife, or...I mean...if he lives here, but he's not here, and you are..." She paused a moment, shrugging lightly as a soft purple glow emerged from the inside of her jacket pockets. "Sorry, it's been a rough day. What I'm trying to say is what's your relationship to my uncle, if you don't mind me asking?"
