The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The other woman seemed impressed at the description of the more...explosive...side of Skye's mutation. She quirked a brow at the vague mention of what she did, but didn't mention it. It was the power control that got her attention. Sure, Lee was helping her with that, but she could always use more help in that area.
"Yeah, flash-bangs sounds like a good term for it; I usually just call it going nova," she said with a nervous laugh. "Because afterwards that's kinda what I feel like."
She thought a moment, biting her lip as she did so. "I was....fourteen when my hair started changing colors. I got bullied for it, so I was moved to a private school. This," she motioned to her hands, which at the moment weren't flickering, "Started when I was sixteen. When asked about it...I got embarrassed to the point that I...flash-banged my high school cafeteria...after that I finished via homeschooling and tutors, so I was at least able to finish school a bit early." She paused a moment, looking down at the table.
"I moved here only several days ago; my uncle's a mutant too, so I'm living with him for now because he at least sort of understands. Until then, I just try to stay as calm as possible. Fear, anger, nervousness....anything like that could cause trouble..." After a moment of silence, she looked up.
"I never got your name," she said politely, albeit somewhat quietly.

"You want me to go nova?" she asked, blinking a little. "That'll piss off everyone in the apartment complex, the cops might be called...someone may shoot..." she was mostly joking, however there was a hint of fear there.
After a moment, she got up, rooting through her VHS collection as she pulled out another tape, replacing the one in the VCR with this one, and then hit play. This arena was far different from the one in the first tape; it was bigger, more packed out. And it was shown on a sports channel, albeit at odd hours, since this was still not a pro bout.
However, Blaine stepped out, still young and even more confident than he had been in his last. Once the bell rang, this fight was back and forth, as if the two men knew each other. Round one ended, then round two. And then, round three. The two men did a good job going back and forth, and the opponent even took Blaine down a few times, but had trouble keeping him there. Finally, the guy had Blaine taken down and locked in a kimura lock.
"I recommend looking away..." Skye murmured, still focusing on the screen, but still wincing a little as there was an audible snap. Everyone was shocked, but Blaine got out of the hold without even flinching, and then about thirty seconds later, scored a knockout kick that leveled the guy to the mat.
However, this time the commentary was not praising of him, but Blaine still held his broken arm high in victory."And that was the day he was blacklisted...I was five the first time I saw this. The last time I saw him..." she murmured, then looked over at Lee.
"Why are humans like that? Blackballing us just because we're different?" she asked, her hair turning blue.

She nodded, biting her lip as the talk continued. It was sort of weird, talking about this kind of thing with her 'aunt,' but...it was helping, and she seemed to know what she was talking about. Though from the sound of it, she wasn't talking about Blaine, here. "That's true, I guess...I mean, it's a good thing that doesn't result in my powers...going nova, I guess you'd say."
Then, she pondered over the earplug and sunglasses idea. "That would work for training, but it's usually so sudden, you'd have no time to get ready, unless I have some kind of tell I don't know about," she mused, thinking for a second. "I guess the main rule would have to be, don't piss me off?" she joked with a slight giggle.
"It's connected to emotion, and I'm almost always feeling some kind of emotion...even if the happier ones don't cause the explosion, or whatever it is..." She paused as her voice softened. "Not too many people are fond of a lightshow during sex," she blurted, her voice quiet. When she realized what she'd said, the purple light intensified a little, going from a flicker to a slow pulse.
"I'm not sure, actually. I mean, it might help, but I've never tried," she murmured softly.

She gave a slow nod, silently acknowledging the answer. And she thought she had it bad. All she had to deal with was a lightshow.
"I accidentally got scared during....you know...once. My now ex fell off the bed, unable to see or hear for a few minutes...It was...pretty bad." She blushed lightly.
"Well," she started, thinking. "The first time I was embarrassed...another time I was depressed, another I was angry....scared...." Her voice trailed off. "So....I guess it's just extreme negative emotions, I guess?"

"Jack," Skye repeated with a nod. "I understand. Kinda like when I hear someone call me Skylar. Or worse, Skylar Jade," she added with a giggle.
Then, she looked as Jack showed her what she did do, and she smiled, looking at the detail and the craftsmanship as it lay in her palm. She looked it over, somewhat impressed as she looked it over. "Wow...this is really good," she commented, looking over with a smile.
Then, Skye shook her head. "I don't really make anything, honestly. I mean...I appreciate art, and I read, but...I'm not really creative. Not that I haven't tried, I'm just not very good. Also it's hard when I'm trying to concentrate, and I get distracted...My distractions tend to come with a light show," she said somewhat sheepishly, offering the carving back.

Skye nodded slowly. "It was just a theory; I mean I remember that pain is a good thing. Let's you know when something is bad, or when you should stop. Uncle Blaine doesn't have that, so theoretically...it's like a gun without a safety."
Then, her hair flashed purple as she flushed a little when Lee described Blaine's powers. "He can't feel...anything?" She paused a moment. "Well, that explains how focused I've seen he can be," she mused, then blinked a moment more. "Uhm....question. If he can't feel at all...then how do you...." She let the question hang as purple light emitted from her hands in little flickers.
Then the subject got to her powers. "Well, for the most part, it's just the hair and the light. It depends on emotion. When they first surfaced, I was moved to protect me. But then...my hands flickered light after getting asked about my hair. That turned into bullying. The next thing I knew, there was this loud bang and a flash of blinding white light. The light didn't bother me, but it disoriented everyone in the area, and it left me weak and my ears were ringing. And that's the day I got kicked out of school..." Her voice trailed off as she looked at the screen.

Skye smiled some more as the prawn disappeared into the alcove again; she was getting used to the company, honestly. She'd actually managed to find someone that shared a common bond, even if that bond was a little....dirty....in nature. Yeah, it was extremely awkward at first, but once they found they shared a common interest, it was peaceful now. Enjoyable, even.
She took the book she was offered, sort of looking at the back before leafing through it. "These should do nicely," she said with a sheepish grin, now holding five books under her arm. "It's a little more than I intended to grab, but...hey that means I get more time to read, right?" she gave a semi-playful wink before getting serious again. "Thanks, Jacquelyn. For the help and all. I probably would have been in there all day and not come out with half of this." she laughed a little.
"So, aside from the obvious," she said after a moment, "Do you like to read or do anything else?" she asked, figuring since they'd already jumped a hurdle, she may as well find out if they had any other common ground.

She shrugged, pondering a moment. "Of course I don't know, but I remember learning in school that lacking one sense causes some of the others to pick up the slack. So maybe since he can't feel pain, his...I don't know maybe it makes him stronger than someone with the same build and training. But...I don't even understand his mutation, to be honest. He just can't feel pain? And I only really got that much from watching his last fight. Don't eat before that one, though. Trust me....it's pretty rough."
She paused, biting her lip a moment as she thought, looking over at Lee, her hair turning blue as she thought on her next words. "My...mother" she hissed the word mother as if it dripped with poison as she spoke it, "became distance when my powers surfaced. At the time, my hair just changed color, and I got pulled from public school to private. Then....they got more potent...and I was pulled from there, and finished with homeschool and tutors. My mom divorced my Dad and she...she wasn't nice while I stayed with her. My dad's job went sideways, and we lived in a pretty crappy apartment together. I couldn't keep a job, and I decided to try to reach out to Uncle Blaine. My Dad tried, but....he couldn't do it on his own," she said, pausing a little as she slumped on the couch.

"Well...I kinda need a full ten hours. If not twelve. But this whole being in a new place is still sorta wearing on me so I'm more hyped up than usual," she said with a small shrug.
"They tried....they really did and that means the world to me. It's my...well the woman that birthed me who had the problem..." she muttered the last part.
She blushed a little. "Well...I kinda figured I didn't want to know," she murmured. Then she turned the TV up a little as the fight started. It was one of Blaine's first, and he opened with the same intensity, but he was even quicker on his feet, actually able to kick at chest level back then. A feat he opened up with.
In fact, after only a minute and a half, the fight was over, despite Blaine sporting a bleeding forehead. "Most of them are this quick. And very few aren't wins. He really had what it takes, I think."

"I was wanting to surprise him sometime. But I'm still adjusting to your wacky sleep patterns," she said with a soft smile. "Our family is supportive--well....his side, anyway--but they just...aren't sure what to do. They love us, but don't really understand the whole mutant thing," Skye explained as Lee sat beside her.
Then, she gave her a funny look. Uncle Blaine hasn't fought in years..." she murmured, then her eyes widened at the older woman's next comments. "Wait...you fought with him? I don't quite understand...Do you train together, too?" she asked, her eyes bright with curiosity.

As she listened to her new book-buddy explain her recommendations, she felt the nervousness and the all around embarrassment fade away entirely. It was likely just that they had some interests in common. She tucked the vampire book under her arm, then the urban fantasy, becoming quite relaxed now, and her hair turned to its natural brown.
Maybe she could swing one more. Keep them in her suitcase where Blaine or Lee wouldn't find them.
"I could probably manage one more," she said softly, musing a little. "I mean I am kinda into both..." she gave a sort of sheepish smile as she picked up her other book in the corner.
This was turning out not to be such a bad day after all. She met a new friend, got some new books, and her first time out, she was relaxed enough to show her natural hair color. How long that lasted would remain to be seen, but it was a start...

She couldn't help but smile upon hearing her name repeated. She never thought she'd have enlightening conversation in this particular section of the bookstore. But nonetheless, it was nice. Maybe she'd made her first friend. Or more. Where the dickens did that come from?
"Yeah, I don't see why anyone would get rid of those, to be honest..." she murmured, her hands lighting up and pulsing quite vividly for a moment, but she wasn't worried; as far as emotions went, romance was a safe one. "I....can see that," she said with a slight smirk as she slipped in to return the two she decided against, then popped right back out.
"Supernatural stuff? Yeah," she said, trying not to sound too excited at the prospect. Good supernatural material was generally harder to come by; weeding through it to find the good stuff was like finding a needle in a haystack sometimes. "I'd love some recommendations, but I kinda need to limit my purchases to maybe one or two more. I kinda live with my uncle right now, and I really wouldn't want him to stumble across....yeah," she said with a slightly nervous laugh, but her nervousness or embarrassment didn't do anything compared to the current color of her hair.

She jumped when the door opened, her hair turning green and lighting up the dim room in an eerie green light for a split second, but then she saw it was Lee, and her hair returned to the content indigo as she focused on the TV.
"I don't think Uncle Blaine even knows I have these," Skye murmured. "I'm not into professional fighting unless it's him," she explained, realizing she was standing where she couldn't see what Skye was watching. "My grandparents recorded every fight they could get their hands on. Though most of it was on local TV...small town, semi-pro and whatnot. Have a seat, I'll restart it. You know you wanna see your boyfriend in action, right?" She smiled over at her as she hit rewind, then hit play again.

"Yeah, it seems so. Kinda hard to browse when you're...up close and personal," she said with a small laugh as she stepped inside; hopefully she was able to hide the blush as she entered. She didn't mean to make it sound so....suggestive. But there it was; maybe it was the fact that they were looking at rather adult books. She wasn't sure, but it was kind of embarrassing, enough to where one could see a flicker of purple light through the beaded curtain.
"Skylar," she said, poking her head out after a moment. "You can call me Skye," she added before going back to the walls of books. She started with one section, picking out a couple of books that looked interesting; she figured it would go faster if she grabbed a handful of intriguing ones in bulk, and then read through so Jacquelyn could pick out a fair share. Also, it'd beat going back and forth. Three books in hand, she walked out, and leaned against the opposite wall, gently setting the book she'd been sold on in the corner.
Then, she read the back cover of the first book. Meh. Then, the second, which seemed better. At the third, her hair turned a bright pink, as her face flushed a similar color. Okay...maybe she could get that one...just to check it out. Yeah, that's it.
"I may end up a regular," she finally said. "I've always been a sucker for literature, and from what I can tell, you have good taste." Or at least, similar taste to the petite girl with the multi-colored hair, anyway.
