The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A ringing sound was in his ear as it slowly started to fade he started to realize what was happening. He looked down to the rock that had some red on it then up to the crowd of people who were quickly getting closer and closer. The guy with the horns was the first to act he stepped forward and pushed Carrick out of the way he could see it happening and while he might have been able to catch himself and stay on his feet his vision skipped a beat and he found himself getting forced into the wall. His pupils were still dilated and his head started to hurt. Out of the corner of his eye he saw people throwing things and others closer to him swinging fists into others.
He was on the ground and someone kicked him in the stomach as they tried to step over him. Curling up into a ball he felt scared he had no idea what to do and his head still hurt that was when he saw what he thought was his girlfriend opening the door. His ears rang some more and then he felt his body started to move on its own accord. The familiar bubbling and stretching of the skin, some one stepped on his tail and he let out a roar of anger turning his head to a guy with green skin. Carrick turned again and felt an intense amount of pain all over his body this wasn’t like his normal shifts this was something far more painful did the rock do something to his powers?
Looking down to his hands as they turned into claws and then everything went dark as his vision faded and his shift continued. Another roar and his clothes started to rip and alter as fur started to cover every inch of his body. People were all around him now and everything started to smell more and more intense. Sweat, blood, fear. The fear was the strongest and his stomach growled as his shoes split apart to reveal lion like paws.
Ears pointed and fangs grew sharper as two words repeated themselves throughout his mind. Flight? Fight? Carrick’s body stood up revealing his shifted beast form and he let out a loud lions roar far louder than when he was shifting, ‘fight!’ was all he could think about.
Carrick’s mismatched eyes looked up lazily with a yawn with his mouth filled with old pizza. Why was that kid there. What was his name again? ”Yes?” Carrick asked responding to both of the kid’s questions. He was Griff and Carrick and technically this was his pizza. Swallowing the pizza Carrick stuck out his tongue towards the kid and then looked back down to the pizza in his hand. Pulling off a hair Carrick smelled it and then shook his head as if it smelled disgusting. How long has it been? Shrugging slightly Carrick took another bite and it went down easier than the first one.
”Yer, that whiney lil’ shit from that brawl ya started the one who though’ he was better than everyone else.” Carrick looked from the clutter of garbage all around the room then back to the un-welcomed intruder, ”Why ya in me room?” Carrick asked filling his mouth again with another bite. ”Common courtesy to knock till someone responds and if they don’t.” Carrick took another bite then opened his mouth showing the kid all the food in it before closing and chewing again.
A string of bird like chirps exited Carrick’s beak as he nodded his head up and down. He still wasn’t capable of speech in this form but if he were he would have been laughing due to her initial reaction. Carrick’s mismatched eyes locked on the woman as she spoke. Carrick tilted his head to the side and let out a few low chirps as he lowered his head and stretched his body forward almost like in a bow. Razor sharp talons dug into the dirt with ease and Carrick lifted his front claws then set them back down leaving gashes in the grass.
Carrick took a few steps forward to Eve again and then lowered his bird like head to her hand and nudged it a few times. Carrick let out another small chirp and hoped she could take a hint. It was weird when he thought about it but it did feel pretty good when people petted him in his shifted form. Even if he would never admit it in his human one.
”You’ll see!” Carrick was already passed a bush before he finished disrobing and made sure to remember which bush he was putting his pants. The last thing he needed was losing another pair and someone stealing them wasn’t going to happen at least he was pretty sure. This wasn’t the city and there weren’t bums looking for new clothes. Carrick shuddered at the thought of another fly home naked and made sure not to run into that problem again.
Feeling his skin bubbling and contorting Carrick’s fingers started to grow till they dug into the ground and pulled up dirt as talons started to form followed by a hawk like screech from his currently forming beak. He always looked forward to the freedom he felt after he shifted it was the initial process in between that he wasn’t a fan of.
Carrick’s form shift never took that long and what might feel like minutes sometimes to him seconds pass to everyone else, which he was chalking up to the pain from the shift. Running on all fours a little further into the woods Carrick spotted a clearing and pushed off with his shifted legs, which were far stronger than his human form. Flapping his wings and shooting straight out of the trees Carrick was now airborne and circled around while his now longer wings flapped a few times carrying him far further than he could have flown with a few flaps in his human form.
Carrick spotted the white head of the woman and dove towards her letting out a small screech.
Bad wing and all the beast was launched into the air with the powerful force of the predator’s feet Carrick let out a low growl followed by a grunt and a higer pitch yelp as he was forced airborne. Carrick adjusted mid-flight using his good wing and was starting to fall fast to the beast once again she was fast. Carrick’s claws again were angled towards the white creature and another snarl left mouth.
A flash of green and Carrick’s mismatched beast like eyes spotted the blonde woman again, he looked back to the green beast and was ready to pounce hoping the green flash was enough to distract the other creature.
It seemed the blonde girl just wanted to feel bad for herself. Carrick shrugged his shoulders making his wings move up and down as well before he responded with a, ”Eh.” he looked back towards the woods where the bird had flown not to long ago then back to the blonde, ”Don’t know about voices, I get urges of my own when I put me other face on though, like trying to eat small critters. Ever wake up next to a half eaten squirrl?” Carrick asked in a mocking tone before shaking his head, ”Not unless the voice tell ya.” Carrick said walking back towards the girl once again.
”Eh, works for everyone. Just got to back it up with a shoulder shrug.” Carrick said shrugging his shoulders before looking back to the woods and pointing, ”At least you don’t have to go through clothes like toilet paper. Unless I take them off before I change they get all ripped like Banner and the hulk.” Carrick said smirking and walked towards the woods starting to take off the upper half of his wardrobe.

Now airborne Carrick let out a small chuckle when he noticed Eve’s pale skin start to redden. ”Right,” Carrick smirked and landed with a thud in front of the girl and leaning towards her his wings snapping behind him, ”Twenty four and your face turns red at the mention of someone or a boyfriend entering yer room.” Carrick let out a laugh, ”Here I thought I was bad, ya look a bit younger than that.” Carrick said placing his hands on his head and taking two steps back towards the woods with his back turned towards Eve.
”It’s actually quite simple not to care, I can teach ya if yer interested as thanks for mention of the non-dairy creamer thing.” Carrick said turning towards her hoping that it was actually as flammable as she said. ”Repeat after me.” Carrick said dropping his hands to his side then clearing his throat, ”Eh.” he then looked to her and smirked, ”Ya don’t have to actually not care, ever hear fake it till ya make it?” Carrick asked curiously, ”I used ta care all the time when kids made fun of me for being tiny, or because of me tail and wings but then I realized their just jealous. Cause I’m awesome and they're all eejits!”
Hopping into the air and snapping his wings open flapping once again becoming airborne. ”I have wings, makes me able to fly. Can you or they fly?” Carrick asked rhetorically before landing and shaking his shaggy head, ”Nope.”
Carrick had never been one for musicals at least that was what he claimed, he loved combination of the singing and the dancing phantom of the opera still remained one of his favorite movies. Again he’d never admit it but that didn’t stop him from thinking about west side story. The way the two mobs started to converge closer and closer to each other Carrick could help but wait for them to start snapping their fingers and start busting out some fancy dance moves or some well rehearsed singing. That didn’t happen however and the closer the one group got the more he pressed himself against the open window behind him.
‘…. Where are the jets when you need them?’ Carrick thought to himself ready to snap open his wings and take off only remaining grounded when he remembered that both Liz and his girlfriend were in the store behind him. It only took him a few seconds but he finally realized it would be better if he got away from them. He was an obvious mutant and the girls well… they looked like normal teenage girls and they were certainly doing normal, boring teenage girl things. Looking over his shoulder back into the store he spotted the two and his eyes fixed on Liz for a second.
His wings opened up and he crouched down ready to fly away from the anti-mutant protesters only to snap them shut again when the minotaur looking guy and his group were already crossing the street and holding up traffic. ”Coddle…” muttered Carrick as he pressed himself up against the window more not wanting to take off.
It seemed the anti-mutant protesters and the guy he had seen earlier with the ‘Keep Muties out of our schools’ sign was leading them back towards the store where he had seen Carrick. “See there’s one right there, the little thing gave me the finger. He things he is better than us!” Carrick heard him and dropped his jaw slightly looking from the mutants who were walking across the street and now gathering up behind him. ”No, I was agreeing with you’re sign earlier. I just happen to think I’m better than you. Maybe not yer entire group but defiantly you at least you look like yer touched with the stupid.” Carrick said shifting his eyes from one group to another as the pro-mutant rights group was now behind him. ”These closed-minded humans giving you a hard time kid?” the mutant with horns on his head asked.
Carrick shifted uncomfortably from one group to the other but still kept his body facing the anti-mutant protesters, ”ummmm… no just making me feel a lil’ uncomfortable… mobs tend to do that.” Carrick said shrugging his shoulders hoping the girls stayed inside or got to the back entrance to the store. The last thing he wanted was for Liz to get into trouble again, she had a knack for getting into trouble then again now that he thought about it the winged thief had a knack for starting it.
“What are you gonna do about it horns? Gonna charge us? Is that it!!?!?” the human asked pointing his sign in the direction of Carrick and the horned guy and his group. ”Nope, think he was just making sure I was okay.” Carrick tried to interject as the Minotaur responded ”We got ever right as you do! If this kid wants be here he can!” Carrick looked back to the Minotaur, ”Again… I’m fine!” Carrick turned his head back to the anti-mutant protesters and then his vision blurred as something struck his forehead, something heavy. A snarl turned into a roar similar to a lions only wasn’t as loud or carried as far. Carrick looked down to find a rock that must have been the culprit as he looked at it his pupils started to dilate and turn to cat like slits.
Carrick’s wings wouldn’t open he didn’t know why but he was falling and couldn’t stop the ground was quickly approaching and then he realized that this was it. His stomach was still lurching, he had no idea how far he was falling or for how long. The ground was nonexistent and so was anything else. He was falling into nothingness. Black all around him except for small circle of light that illuminated from the sky and all around his body. He looked up and saw nothing, down and to the sides. All was black. Then he realized he was dreaming. He could fly he had wings. Carrick closed his eyes and when he opened them everything changed. He was flying again this time his girlfriend was flying next to him all on her own without wings.
Carrick was happy he looked forward and then looked back to Liz and reached out for her hand only as he was reaching out to her she stopped flying and started to fall. He reached out changing his flight pattern as well and changed it into a dive. His wings tucked to his body as she tried to slow herself. The ground was quickly approaching and he didn’t try to slow himself he was worried about her. The quicker he became the faster she fell it was an endless cycle and no matter how hard he tried or yelled for her she kept falling. Her lips moved and he saw fear in her eyes. The same fear he mimicked. He wasn’t going to save her this time he wasn’t fast enough.
Before she hit the ground Carrick jumped awake in his bed. He didn’t wake up screaming though he did wake up with his heart racing and an empty feeling in his stomach. Rolling over to the side of his bed he heard knocking at the door and winched trying to ignore it. Was it a teacher or one of his ‘you should be studying or in class’ neighbors or fellow mansionites. Liz would have just walked in so for the most part he didn’t care who it was. Carrick never really locked his door anything of value in his room was pretty much impossible to find in the clutter that was his room.
Kicking his feet off the bed Carrick sat in his custom jeans he wore from the night before. His tail twitched behind him as he yawned and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He placed his head in his palms and spoke quietly to himself. ”Just a dream…” Sitting upright now his feet dangled off his bed just barely touching the pile of clothes that was on the side of his bed that reached out and started to mesh with garbage, text books and energy cans. Carrick stood upright and looked over to the dying plants that decorated the room that was his roommates. He hadn’t seen or heard from Kai in a few months after he moved out but Kai was nice enough to leave a few of his friends behind.
Most of the plants were dying now, lack of sunlight was never really a problem for them seeing as Kai tended to them constantly feeding them talking to them and moving them closer to the windows or away as needed. Carrick was clearly not as nurturing. Another yawn and he looked to the open window where the oak tree resided it’s limbs almost reaching into the room making an easy getaway for anyone that wanted to fly away or just escape and climb down. Out of anyone he had ever roomed with Kai was his favorite. Which was why he kept all the plants. Should he have been taking care of them? Yeah, but every time he was going to tend to them he decided he wanted to do something else. Like fly or go see Liz, or eat.
Carrick’s stomach growled and he looked into the drawer of his nightstand expecting to find some birdseed but only an empty back. Carrick’s throat let out a low rumble resembling a feline growl and he tossed the large and empty bag of birdseed into the clutter of garbage that was spread throughout his room. Turning back to his bed Carrick stuck his head under and grinned when he spotted an open box of pizza with still a slice left. ”Jackpot!”
As slyly as Liz pulled the pretzel towards her and tore it apart Carrick turned the back of popcorn towards the middle of the two of them just in case she wanted to pick at that two. He never forgot to share growing up he just usually ignored it. This time wasn’t the case though he was more than happy to share with her Liz was special.
Carrick’s slightly pointed ears twitched when Liz spoke of her mother asking about him. With a smile he laughed, ”Oh, that’s good. Tell her I said hello and I’m happy to find out that she is doing so well.” he shrugged slightly at his next comment, ”Da isn’t thrilled with me, me mother told him about a few of my grades and he wasn’t to happy I can tell ya that much.” Carrick smirked as he bit into the hot dog and took another gulp down of his hot chocolate before he continued, ”He said a few of ‘dem improved greatly but I won’t be going anywhere with the way things are now.” Carrick shrugged again.
”Told him I got wings, I can go anywhere I want.” Carrick sipped the coco again moving his wings behind him to prove his point. ”Really though, he is doing good. Quit his job at the plant. Said the docks had more stuff for him to move. They pay ‘em way better too. Said they were thrilled to have one of the strongest telekinetic in Ireland on their docks.” Carrick said smiling and taking pride in what he said. Not every kid could say their father was actually one of the strongest telekinetic in all of Ireland.
”Might head home to see them soon. At leas’ they been bugging me too. Not sure I really want to go back any time soon. Though if I ever do I’m pretty sure I’d still call ya on occasion. To ya know let ya know I’m still all well in good.” Carrick gave Liz a smug grin and then shrugged his shoulders and his wings in the process. ”Really though…. I’m glad yer back.” Carrick took another bite of his hot dog and finished it in the process.
Rocking his weight from one foot to the other Carrick’s mismatched eyes spotted a bird fly by overhead as it flew into the trees behind him. He suddenly felt the urge to jump into the air and chase after the bird. His tail twitched and his wings ruffled the feathers lightly as he shifted his attention back to Eve. She was talking about schooling and the importance of certain subjects. He didn’t really need school for that he did happen to read a few books on the mechanics of flight most of them involved birds some involved other contraptions such as jets, hot air balloons and regular planes.
She did happen to have his interest peaked when it came to non-dairy creamer being flammable. ”Problem is sitting through all the boring ****” Carrick said smirking to Eve now wanting to test her information about making ‘brilliant fireballs’.
Carrick started to laugh when she said he seemed happy enough, Carrick nodded his head and hopped into the air and flapped his wings lifting him into the air as he circled Eve a few over her head. ”I just don’t really care what other people think,” said Carrick believing his own lie. ”Spent most of me life being made fun of when I was’a bit younger, eventually I got tired of feeling down so I went up instead.” Carrick barrel rolled and started to head towards the trees till he aimed his body up till he pulled of a small loop and started to fly back towards Eve. ”Maybe ya need to just stop caring?” Carrick asked as he landed a few feet in front of her with a small flip.
Standing upright Carrick’s tail swayed behind him as he raised an eyebrow in her general direction. ”Paint the window shut? Or put a screen in? Though that is usually how I enter my own room. MY ol’roommate grew an oak tree so we could just enter and exit our room by tree climbing. Though I never needed to get anywhere.” Carrick then smirked in the girl’s direction, ”How old are ya? I don’t think yer boyfriends need to sneak in through the bedroom windows.” Carrick said in a mocking tone before he hopped into the air again and flapped his wings a few times.
Carrick smirked and shrugged his shoulders, ”I get by, haven’t had anyone step on it since I got it.” Carrick turned his head to his tail and tried to catch it a few times making it obvious he was trying to be funny till he finally caught it in his free hand. ”Gets stuck in revolving doors on occasion but it is starting to know better.” Letting go of his tail he turned his attention back to the kid with the multicolored hair.
”Well, duh?” Carrick said his eyes shifting from the kids hair towards the art supplies and books in front of him. ”Yer, touched in the head or something?” Carrick asked tiliting his head to the side as he took a few steps closer to the table as he fixed his mismatched color eyes on the paper in front of the kid. ”I meant whatcha drawing? Any good?” Carrick asked curiously still moving closer to the table his tail twitching behind him the way a cat’s does when a cat is busy investigating something. ”So you draw when yer bored? I do that on occasion too, though it’s mostly stick figures giving crude hand gestures.” Carrick said smirking revealing his elongated canines again.
Taking a step back from the table Carrick shrugged, ”Never been too good at drawing meself, I get bored too easily.” Carrick reached towards the back of his head and scratched it a few times. ”More of a frequient flier when I get bored.” Carrick pointed to his wings, ”because that is what they are meant for.” Carrick said in a mocking tone towards the teen.
Shrugging his shoulders Carrick didn’t really know how to answer that question. ”I guess being different isn’t for everybody.” Carrick kicked his legs up and leaned on them placing his chin onto his knees as he tried to recall the words of inspiration his Da told him when he was being made fun of at school before he had wings back when he was just a runt. ”It takes a strong person to be different, not physically strong but strong in character.” Carrick shrugged, ”What me da told me at least. He’s a telekinetic, one of the strongest in Ireland.” Carrick said making his voice reflect the pride he had for his father.
Kicking his legs back out and opening his wings when he was sitting he felt his weight try to pull him back slightly tensing his stomach muscles however and he didn’t budge, ”Something like that. Think they grew a bit from the last time I measured them.” Carrick said looking from one end of the golden brown wing tip to the other. ”Imagine two of someone yer, size.” Carrick said looking her up and down slightly trying to guess her weight but not saying anything. ”I move slower and harder to maneuver but me other face can handle the extra weight with no problem.” Carrick’s wings shut behind him as his tail swayed in the background.
”Don’t really ‘ave to many secrets.” Carrick said trying not to think much about his inner-city activities like pick pocketing, fixing card-games conning people out of their money and what happened with Shade. Carrick’s tail betrayed his thoughts and flicked with irritation. ”I mean, I don’t tell me Da or Ma I skip school on occasion or that I ran away from the last school they tried to send me to in the states to join a circus… but ya know…” Carrick shrugged again and then laughed, ”Pretty sure me mother be mighty pissed bout that.” Carrick shuddered to think what would happen if his Mother did find out about that.
His enthusiasm about the subject of schooling became rather clear rather quickly as he quirked an eyebrow as his tail flicked with more irritation behind him. ”I know how to fly…” Carrick said with in a serious tone not fond of the insult. ”The trick to surviving school is not being stuck in it. How often you use physics or chemistry?” Carrick asked curiously figuring he already knew the answer to it. She was starting to sound like everyone else… boring.
When she mentioned the names however two came to mind almost instantly, there was the gender shifter who people called mirror and then there was Sara who was supposed to tried to turn her into a scratching post. ”I met Mirror in detention… he didn’t seem too bad though. Sara doesn’t live here. She was the one who first brought me to the mansion… Cat…” Carrick said as if the term ‘Cat’ was an insult. An old habit he found hard to forget for a time he despised all cats because of his bird like features.
The next statement caused Carrick to roll onto his back and start to laugh before he hopped to his feet again and pointed his thumb to his chest, ”I have the same ability though I’m pretty sure mine is more direct and intentional.” Carrick said with a smirk. ”I don’t think you’d be a very good shrink though.” Carrick said his tone a more serious one until he cracked another toothy grin, ”You talk too much to be a shrink.”
Shifting his weight on his back foot Carrick added, ”It’s a big place and it is easy not to run into people you don’t like. Prime example.” Carrick said pointing to himself.
Carrick smirked and shook his shaggy hair in the grass while keeping his eyes on Evelyn, ”Not a lick of sense.” Carrick let out a small laugh and looked back up to the sky, ”Why would anyone want to be normal anyways?” Carrick lifted his arms up and pushed them down as he kicked his legs up then landed on them in a crouching position before standing up straight and yawning. ”Normal has been done before and it is boring.” Carrick said sure of what he was saying. He was different and loved every minute of it.
”Shame, circus is usually fun. I was the star performer for a while though I did have to change faces for it otherwise I was just the kid with wings.” Carrick smirked and snapped open his wings then quickly closed them after they were fully extended. He enjoyed seeing people’s reactions to his wings. ”Griff was also a nickname there as well.” he said shrugging his shoulders again.
When she started to talk about the lack of art supplies and the time it would take to re-paint most of the works Carrick suddenly felt sorry for her. It was clear she valued her paintings and the thought of having to re-paint them all was a thought she didn’t like. He didn’t give her a smart remark for that only a sympathetic look. ”Guess there could be worse things.” he said simply enough before sitting back down this time facing her letting her know he was enjoying the conversation.
”It’s a big place, I’m sure there are tons of people who don’t want me here.” Carrick said nodding his head and counting a few silently on his fingers, ”Can think of a dozen students off hand and most of the teaching staff.” Carrick flashed her a toothy grin revealing his elongated canines and then added, ”But you shouldn’t care what others think. Do what ya gotta do right?” he paused for a second, ”You seem nice enough. Whose the Eejit who doesn’t wantcha to stay?”
The window scene didn’t change much, the occasional car followed by a few dozen people passing by every few minutes. It was rather boring really and now that his little escape was no longer entertaining Carrick became antsy. Shifting his weight back and forth his eyes started to scan for something entertaining. Serena picked up a red dress and said something about it he didn’t hear nor pay attention really more girls doing girlish things. His eyes scanned around the store and he spotted a woman in her late twenties pick out a pair of lacy underwear and bra. Carrick’s face started to turn red for a moment then the girl noticed that Carrick was looking in her direction. She gave him a look and it was then Carrick decided he had enough of the shopping scene.
Looking towards the exit he decided it was best if he waited outside of the store less he’d get in trouble mainly from his girlfriend he was rather good at not getting into trouble with her and he wanted to keep his streak going. With a bell clanging Carrick took a step outside as the glass door shut behind him. Looking around Carrick spotted the picket sign the protester he had given the bird to was walking further down the street and rounding the corner. Carrick cared little for where he was going.
Shifting his weight Carrick was now leaning up against the window of the shop where Serena and Liz were still doing the whole shopping thing. He yawned slightly and placed his hands behind his head while his tail was twitching with mild irritation. Mismatched eyes spotted another group of protesters across the street only these were pro mutant. He could only assume this after noticing one of them having a build exactly like a minotaur except for the human head with horns instead of a bulls head he too was holding a sign about mutants rights.
The shifter yawned again and looked away again paying little mind to the political garbage that was busy plaguing the city. Honestly everyone was acting like a bunch of Eejits. Turning his head away from the group across the street Carrick noticed the protester he had giving a hand gesture too earlier found some friends and they were busy walking back the way he came. Towards Carrick and the shop where his girlfriend and her roommate were busy still discussing girly things.
