The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He hated it here in New York. In fact he was pretty sure he hated everywhere at the moment he was an angry teen with a nasty chip on his shoulder. It had been some time since he was moved into his own room in the mansion, told he had shifted into some kind of animal and mauled a few people during a riot. The same incident caused his girlfriend, Liz to be sent home. Something that Carrick still couldn’t really accept. She was afraid of him, she told him that much and said she was going home and that he probably shouldn’t expect a letter or a phone call any time soon.
The mansion was lonely, and the only people he really could talk to about anything was his Mom and Dad. Late night phone calls were the only thing keeping him at the mansion. His dad said it was a right of passage or something along those lines for mutants to have a tipping point where their mutation started to grow out of control before it could be reigned back in. He destroyed a building, something his dad told him in confidence apparently his mother still had no idea he had done that when he was younger.
So this was the tipping point. He lost control mauled some people and scared the people at the mansion and his girlfriend away. If this was the tipping point he was ready to rein everything back in now.
Despite the cold he needed to escape from the mansion and the fake smiles he had to give everyone. He was tired of it all and needed a change of scenery even if it was only for a short period of time. The wind never bothered him much his eyes adjusted quite well under his goggles and the scarf that Liz had gotten him had kept his neck pretty warm while the rest of his body was smothered in thick flannel. The snow had stopped for a time and the roofs were covered in a thin white layer that showed signs of melting under the winter sun that was now making a regular appearance in between the occasional cloud. Needless to say it was a great day to fly.
Flying down the river Carrick looked for a good place to perch on one of the nearby buildings while his golden brown wings seemed to glow in the sunlight. Shifting his wings when an on coming current buffered him he decided to fly a bit higher and then glide to a nearby building.
Carrick ignored the jibe that came from Clyde once he said he could grow a few more feet. ”Well, being taller migh’ give ya a few opportunities to make some money in a jif.” Carrick said shrugging slightly letting it sit in the air for a minute. He didn’t need money at the moment due to the duffle bag filled with a large sum buried under his bed behind garbage and pizza boxes filled with moldy pizza but since the day Clyde tried to rat him out for stealing a wallet Carrick made it his mission to corrupt the kid.
”Nothing too bad, just need to go buy a few items from a store and then give them to me and I turn it for a profit. I’ll make you a full partner and give you an even cut.” Carrick said shadily. ”Some of the kids are looking for a way to get some booze and with ya, we could do that. I mean we could always raid a teachers room or something but it would be easier with ya helping.” Carrick said nodding his head.
”I mean it isn’t that much different from helping me with the wallet thing only you wouldn’t need to steal anything. I already have the money in the city somewhere.” Carrick said nodding his head some more. ”Wouldn’t be too difficult.”
The air shifted slightly when they entered the city, despite it being such a calm day at the mansion the sky was a bit windier here. He was told before it was due to all the buildings and no trees. It sorta made sense but he was sure if he really wanted to discover the reason he could read about it but that seemed like a bit too much work.
The sounds of wailing horns got louder as they passed a crowded intersection and Carrick’s head raised a little as he shifted his head to view everyone below. They looked like tiny figurines but he quickly lost interest as he spotted a few pigeons flying by and he quickly gave chase. He hated pigeons.
Flapping his wings quickly his claws below grasped at the air as he allowed them to stretch out. He almost forgot Eve was on his back till he shifted is wings to adjust to the wind as he started his next glide towards the birds as they attempted to fly further away. Tilting his head up slightly and turning his head he fixed one of his mismatched color eyes on his passenger. She seemed nervous still which wouldn’t do so he decided it was necessary to loosen her up a bit. Free falls usually did that.
Shifting his weight Carrick’s wings brought them both higher and higher into the air until they were over looking a large part of the city with ease only a few buildings were higher than them but he though that would be enough give her a good view before the fall.
Sailing in the air Carrick let everything sink in before he leaned forward and closed his wings over Eve’s legs so she wouldn’t fall off. Letting out a screech Carrick dived to where the pigeons were flying.
The man he was on top of went limp out of fear and due to the sudden blood loss when Carrick’s beast form had attacked. He was still latched on however just in case he was playing opossum. Carrick’s throat let out a low growl and then he was hit by something. He turned when he was forced away and swiped his talons at what ever attacked him. It didn’t contact where he wanted it too because what ever hit him didn’t have a body. It was red like the ball and then there was a blonde that wasn’t his behind it.
Carrick hopped back no longer able to use one of his wings seeing as the guy who he had just mauled had damaged it. ‘Fight? Flight?’ Carrick stared at the girl his voice low a still growling while he was bearing his teeth. Looking around Carrick was satisfied to see not a lot of people were around him. They must have recognized him as the Alpha. He liked that. The woman before him however that seemed familiar to him and smelled of fear still stood before him. The growling stopped for a second then he tilted his head slightly looking from the red to the blonde. ‘Mate?’
Carrick took a few steps forward on all fours trying to avoid the red that attacked him seconds before. He didn’t know what it was and it was what was keeping him from what was his. Sniffing the air Carrick caught a sent of Liz, his.
Turning towards the blonde and the red ball behind him he recalled that it was the thing that had had her. Carrick growled again and charged towards the red ball again and by extension Serena.
The scared one stood in front of him again and then a bubble of red appeared around her and what was his. Carrick’s mouth opened with a snarl as he flapped his wings a few time trying to determine if the bubble protected them on all sides. Another roar and Carrick landed on the bubble of red digging his talons into the blood. Carrick scratched and clawed his way attempting to break through the shield. Liz was in there and she was hurt he had to make sure what was his was all right.
When he couldn’t break through he let out another roar and started to pace around the shield hoping her could find an opening. That was until a baseball bat hit him from behind. Carrick’s left wing snapped under the pressure of the bat and he let out a painful roar much different from the ones he had been letting lose previously.
Whipping around his cat like eyes locked onto the thug with the bat. Carrick jumped and slashed at his face with his talons and then latched onto him. ‘Fight!’ fangs and claws dug through flesh easily enough much easier than when he attacked the red ball. His bloodlust made him forget about Liz now that he could now longer see her.
f Carrick could laugh or smirk in this form he would have, she was scared and he could feel her legs tense around his back as she asked what she should be holding onto. Honestly anything was okay to grab onto as long as it wasn’t his wings for obvious reasons. Some people laid down on his back and put their head next to his while others sat straight keeping their legs locked. Carrick tilted his neck and head back letting Eve know to grab onto it.
He shifted his wings and turned slowly for the moment hoping not to scare Eve too much. While he normally loved to terrify new comers to the sky Eve was nice to him and didn’t give him the impression that she was like everyone else which meant she got the learners course in flying slow and steady… for now.
Carrick’s wings tilted and he went from flying in a large slow circle to straight shot for the city where there were buildings and traffic. Traffic and buildings always made Carrick laugh when he got the bird’s eye view. Everyone was in such a hurry and they didn’t go anywhere all the while it would take him minutes to get from one place to another.
The prey in his mouth flailed as he screamed trying to shake Carrick’s beast form off but there was no way anything could separate himself from his prey. Nothing in the world that-
>>>>"Hey! Who said you could ignore me?!"
A flash or red and Carrick was being separated from his prey with a final slash of his talons in an attempt to grab onto him again Carrick looked around as a color of red danced around him. Carrick let out a low growl and slashed at it causing it to separate then go back to where it was before he slashed it. This made Carrick angry he was an alpha things like this shouldn’t happen.
His cat like darted around until he spotted the blonde waving her hands towards him and the red that was swirling around him. Carrick let out a snarl and slowly backed away from the red. It didn’t flinch and didn’t run when he growled or snarled. Baring his fangs again Carrick looked to the blonde standing then he spotted his mate. She was his and this female smelling of fear was in near him trying to distract him from her.
Carrick made another be-line for Liz running on all fours and dodging anyone and anything that stood in his way.
”Right, well it seems that this one time I do er, did.” Carrick smirked and pointed to him, ”Half-pint!” then raised his hand to where Clyde stood now, ”To full-pint.” Carrick shrugged as Clyde continued to pretend he was better than the winged mutant. ”Right well I figured if I get called names figure eve ‘now and then it be right fer me to do something similar.”
In truth he had been made fun of a lot when he was younger before he realized he was a mutant. He was always shorter and runtier than everyone else his age, which made him a prime candidate to be picked on. That was until his wings started to grow and he realized he could fly. That was when they stopped picking on him to his face. Otherwise they’d be hanging from their underwear on a flagpole.
”Can you grow any more than tha? Or is that as tall as you can grow?” Carrick asked curiously hoping he could grow a few more feet.
If he could speak in Gryphon form he would have been teasing her when she was so startled when he first appeared. It was good though she was cautious it meant she was smart he was after all king of the skies and anyone who insulted him turned into a scratching post. At least that is what he would tell her if he could talk. Carrick however curred, a combination between a cooing and a purr she was the third person to ever hear that exit his throat. A compliment really.
After a few minutes of allowing her to pet him Carrick took a step back and circled around Eve and slide his head under her legs then jumped into the air, sure it wasn’t the best or safest way to get someone in the air but Carrick saw it in the Harry potter movie so he’d figure it would work now. With a quick squawk once Eve was on his back he snapped open his wings and took off into the air.
Carrick leaned up from his bed and smirked when Clyde reentered the room a little taller than before closer now to his height. Carrick quirked an eyebrow, ”No reason to get short,” Carrick said taking another bite of his pizza then raising his hands as if the cops just kicked down the door for something he did. One hand held the crust of the remaining pizza while the other held an opened redbull can. ”You look taller.” Carrick said his mouth still full.
Hopping from the bed and placing the crust in his mouth Carrick took his hand to where Clyde used to be in height and to where he was now which was closer to Carrick’s. Carrick had always been short in fact Clyde was the first person he was taller than at least this size and his smaller size. ”Whoa! Ya can grow?” Carrick asked with a small laugh, ”Why ya stay so small then?” Carrick asked his tail flicking behind him curiously.
”Man if I could grow I’d be taller than a tree everywhere I go.” Carrick started to walk away then turned pulling the crust piece from his mouth, ”People wouldn’t call you short Sh!t or half-pint then.”
The blonde didn’t move and the beast blinked his mismatched colored eyes. He let out a low snarl, as he smelled the fear on her she was scared but still she didn’t move. She spoke but the words didn’t reach Carrick they fell on the deaf ears of the beast. Carrick’s beast like body stood erect instead of on all fours. He growled and his eyes fixed on Liz, she was his and for some reason she didn’t move when he called.
Carrick’s eyes were tired of looking through the scared one his gaze shifted and he snarled and let out another low grumble however he was far less aggressive than he was moments before. She was scared but she had a calming affect on him. Carrick’s body shifted and his fangs started to become hidden behind his lips as his snarl ceased. Carrick was about to lower his talons before something hit him.
The beast blinked and he was looking down at the ground with a sharp pain in his right wing. Carrick’s body reacted to the one ho struck him he went from starting to be passive to the alpha once again. Carrick roared and bared his fangs into the prey’s neck. All his instincts were screaming, ‘Kill!’
Carrick smirked again with his mouth closed as he raised his hand up to Clyde’s height, ”I only ‘member names of people I like short sh@t nothing personal but you whined too much I’m guessing." Carrick took another bite of his moldy pizza and shrugged, ”I never nearly kill anyone. If I wanted to drop you I would have. It would have been simple I’ve been doing stunts like that since I was lil.” Carrick said shrugging and walked back to where his bed was.
Jumping back onto his bed Carrick kicked his legs up as his wings shifted behind him, ”That’s Kai’s side of da room, guess it’s yers now isn’t it?” Carrick said glad he’d have something to do now that Kai was gone. Even if he didn’t like the kid it be easy to get a laugh or two out of the kid. ”Hope you don’t mind plants, I grew to like ‘em.” Carrick said shifting in his bed and reaching under it to get a can of red bull from a case he had stashed there next to a large sack of money he had accumulated from a job he did with Shady.
The kid marched up to him. Carrick smirked and looked down on the kid. It wasn’t everyday someone was as short as he was got to have an opportunity to look down on someone. Carrick liked this already it made him feel powerful. Carrick took another bite of old pizza that was starting to taste worse and worse the longer the kid was in his room. The kid then started to list some things that made him better than Carrick. When the kid mentioned his mother Carrick’s wings snapped open and he stopped grinning. He was demonstrating his size to the kid something he did in Gryphon form if another predator tried coming in on his kill something that meant if you continue to challenge me you won’t survive. This was something Carrick never did before but he did this purely on instincts.
”Ya mention me mother again, I’ll take you for a ride and drop ya somewhere and no, I don’t plan on landing to let ya go.” his wings retracted and he took another bite of his pizza. There were only a few things Carrick couldn’t stand, small kids getting picked on, someone picking on his friends and someone insulting his other or father. He was a Mama’s boy at heart, which meant if you didn’t say anything nice about his mother his little fists would start swinging.
”Ha no way, yer suppos’ ta be me new roommate?” Carrick asked laughing, ”What’s yer name again half-pint?” Carrick asked over exaggerating the height at which he had to crouch down to get level with Clyde who wasn’t much smaller than him.
Fangs dug into the neck of the minotaur mutant as he screamed out in pain and started smacking Carrick on the head with his over sized fists Carrick let go once the hits started to hurt and managed to jump a few feet away from him as he collapsed against the wall holding the spot where Carrick’s elongated fangs took a large chunk. Carrick’s beast form lowered and he growled as people started to back up away from him. ‘fight?’ Carrick thought as he looked around his tail twitching like he was about to pounce.
Outside from the circle of scared mutants and humans Carrick’s mutated ears lifted and twitched when he heard a familiar voice, He didn’t know who was speaking but it caught his attention, which was impressive due to the people still fighting outside of the small circle that encompassed Carrick. A flash of gold and his cat like eyes fixed on the blonde.
>>>>"Hey Carrick! Lion tail, yeah! I'm talking to you buster!" she yelled.
Carrick’s head tilted to the side and he looked past the woman to see what was his slumped on the bench behind her. Carrick’s eyes blinked once and his heart started to beat faster. He looked back to the other blonde and he blinked again. Did she take what was his? Is she standing in the way? He was still for a moment trying to process everything that was going on. That was when two people fell in front of him startling him and in turn causing him to go on the offensive.
Carrick pushed down to the ground and jumped on the two before him talons swiping at them as they screamed out in pain. Blood started to puddle around the two as they laid still screaming and clutching where they were just attacked. Carrick leaped forward towards the first blonde who was standing in the way of what he was his. He snarled as he jumped trying to scare her out of the way so he could take what was his. ‘Mine’ thought the beast as he snapped open his wings and had his eyes locked on Liz.
Carrick’s shifted cat ears twitched when he heard the scream among the chaos, for some reason it caught his attention it seemed almost familiar, almost calling to him. His shifted figure turned on paws towards the screaming blonde his silted pupils narrowed and he locked on the girl, there was fear on her face. For some reason this upset the beast. He stared at her for a second and his heartbeat started to slow just for a second he was calming when he looked at her. That was until another female tackled her then started to take her from him. Everything around him then started to become more apparent. There was someone charging him.
Carrick let out a roar of rage and dodged an oncoming blow from some one who was trying to swing a picket sign at him. The beast shifted down to all fours and dodged the strike. When the sign passed over head he pushed himself up and forward towards the man who swung on him Carrick didn’t know who he was or why he was swinging at him but the beast that was behind the wheel let out a snarl and slashed his eagle like talons towards him ripping into his leather jacket and flesh like it was warm butter. The man dropped and the beast shifted his attention back to the blonde who screamed.
Carrick’s beast form started to move towards the way of the blonde the one that he decided was his, but before he could make it towards her there was another threat. The beast’s eyes shifted and then Carrick’s form jumped up dodging another blow from a lesser male this one had horns and had just thrown a human at him. Carrick snarled as he jumped back again from another person swinging a sign at him.
Carrick didn’t know who these lesser males were but he knew they were trying to keep him from what was his, he was the alpha here he was fighting for what was his. Carrick lowered on all fours again and let out another lion like roar and jumped towards the man with horns his talons outstretched and his teeth sinking into his neck as he landed on him. Carrick’s beast form determined he was the biggest threat at the moment he was keeping him from what was his. ‘Fight’ was all that was running through his head with the occasional glance to the blonde she was his and he was going to protect her. “Bro, I’m on your side!” The Minotaur yelled as he tried to grab Carrick off of him.
