The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

So Derek hadn't seem the movie yet after all. Aleksandr had assumed otherwise with how quickly he'd chosen it from the stack. In the end it probably wouldn't matter all that much anyway. Putting on a movie wasn't anything more than a distraction and an excuse, so missing parts of it wouldn't be such a tragedy. Plus, if he did like whatever bits of the movie he managed to catch there was always the option of letting him borrow it to watch for real. They only lived a few floors apart after all.
Aleksandr slid down on the bed just a little, getting more comfortable as Derek readjusted himself as well. The body heat starting to build around him between Derek and the silky sheets on the mattress was delicious. It was almost enough to make him drowsy with contentment. The only thing better would be to have the heat lamp on as well, but he could settle for what he already had.
The feeling of a tongue sliding across his scales roused him from his almost-stupor. A chuckle rolled through his chest at the unexpected, though not entirely unpleasant, sensation. He could only imagine how unusual it must have been from Derek's end. He slid how on tongue out, at full length, and flickered it. From the position they were in the tips of the forks could easily reach his chest and Derek's forehead. He chuckled again as it retracted. Anything he could do Aleksandr could do better.
A little more of his tail coiled up onto the bed, sliding smoothly across the sheets and curling lightly against the other young man's legs, seeking out more contact and body heat. "I will never understand movie if you are distracting me," he said in an amused tone, fingers stretching to trace circles along is shoulder.

"Central Park is best place for sunbathing if you are knowing where to go," he replied, deciding that he would pay the Park another visit the next day. Thinking about it was just so enticing and he wanted to be sure he soaked up as much sun as he could before fall began to roll around and steal the warmth. "There is small yard and balcony at my home too, but they are not so good as the Park."
He simply shrugged at her condemnation of the world. He had found that even the most progressive places often still had underlying currents of discrimination, even if they were slowly dying out. "Maybe it is easier for others. Many people are not liking snakes so much, so is maybe just me." Not that he had looked all that extensively, or possibly in the right areas. Maybe somewhere like the zoo would be more open to hiring someone like him. He'd have to remember to check if he ever needed a steadier income.
Aleksandr smiled at her enthusiasm over his modeling. He hadn't done anything big, but he'd been pleased with the results that he'd seen and he'd truly been in his element with so much attention directed at him. He cold pose for hours without getting bored of it. "You can maybe find them online. Everything is online now." He couldn't quite remember what they photos had been for. A magazine or a news article maybe. But photos almost always ended up on the internet somehow and they could probably be found with a little digging.
"You have found places that are good to mutants?" he asked, more out of curiosity than any interest in seeking them out for himself. Finding jobs and housing was probably easier for her since she wasn't a visible mutant, but she also looked young which could present its own challenges.
"Are you needing a new drink?" he added, motioning to the bottle in her hand. A beer only lasted so long.

It didn't take long for Derek to join him on the bed, which was encouraging. The nerves from earlier appeared to have subsided and the young man seemed to be settling in comfortably, even eagerly. "Is very warm, actually," he replied with a bit of a grin, knowing what Derek meant but opting to tease him instead. He was already enjoying the warm hand against his scales and was looking forward to how much more skin he could get the other young man to press against him.
"There is no need for moving," he continued, wanting to reassure Derek even amidst his teasing. There wasn't really any need to aggravate any remaining nerves beyond a certain point. Making him unwilling to test his boundaries would also be counter productive. It wouldn't do either of them any good to extinguish the fire with anxieties before it got a chance to really get going.
Carefully he slid an arm behind Derek's neck and placed the other behind his own head. It was a lot softer than resting against the wall and provided the opportunity for him to lean more of his boay against Aleksandr's if he wanted."You have seen this movie before?" he asked, offering the option of small talk to help keep any potential awkward tension at bay. Talking during a movie wasn't exactly polite, but he doubted Derek was all that concerned about missing any plot points.

"I sit on balcony almost every day," he replied, gathering his coils to make room for Derek to move past him as he entered. "Is nice on sunny days to bask at home. I enjoy the privacy." He still preferred the park for long hours spent lounging, but at least on the balcony there weren't any nervous passerbys to bother him or call someone else over to bother him on their behalf.
His eyes followed the path of the waving DVD once Derek had taken his pick, a sly smile sliding onto his face once the case came into focus. Fitting indeed. "Good choice. Is one of my favorites," he praised, gently removing the case from the other young man's hand so he could put the disk into the DVD player. He'd managed to get his hands on a nice flat screen TV and had mounted it on the wall across from the bed for lazy watching on days he was shut in. It helped to keep his mind occupied when it got too cold outside or when he was sulking while he molted.
Once he'd gotten everything turned on and navigated his way through the DVD menus he made his way back to the other side of the room, placing the remote on a bedside table and sliding onto the mattress. "Come, be comfortable," he said, motioning to Derek and patting a spot on the unoccupied half of the bed. He'd left the majority of his tail hanging over his side of the mattress and piled on the floor to leave enough room for the other young man. Derek might have wanted an excuse to get close, but even with that willingness being surrounded by a tail might have been a little overwhelming. Aleksandr would rather perch on the edge of the bed than make him uneasy.

"The summers here are very nice. I can bask for hours when the sun is out." Could and regularly did. Central Park was one of his favorite places for sunbathing, but he often had to hunt for a more secluded area to relax in. Even when he was minding his own business it could be difficult to avoid being harassed by others in some way. Something about an enormous snake just made some people nervous. The yard and balcony at his new home were much quieter, but they were also more cramped. It was nice to have options, though.
He could still do without the winters in New York, but they were still much milder than back in Russia. He had debated moving to a warmer place, but the city he was in was so well known for mutant activity and pushing for acceptance that it was hard to want to leave. Maybe some day but for the time being he was content to stay where he was, at least during most of the year.
"I do not have steady job," he replied after a moment of hesitation. He still wasn't entirely whether or not he should be embarrassed about not working some kind of full time job, but it hadn't bothered him quite enough to go looking for one yet. Still, not everyone was accepting of the unemployed. "Is not so easy to find normal jobs looking like this." Or to find work spaces to accommodate his size. "Sometimes I can find work to model or in clubs to entertain. Enough to pay rent, but not for daily work."

Aleksandr both heard and felt Derek approaching before the young man addressed him and peeked into the room. "The door is open," he replied for courtesy's sake while he rolled his heat lamp away from the edge of the bed and into one corner of the room. The lamp had been one of his better investments, but not many others could stand to bask under it like he could so he tucked it away whenever he was sharing his space. Body heat was a good enough substitute.
"Is almost the same as other floors, but we have a balcony," he said, giving up the room as clean enough and turning to face the doorway where Derek was standing. The balcony had been the deciding factor for which floor to move into. He loved curling up out there on days when the sun was nice and strong. The natural heat was so much nicer than what his lamp gave off.
Sliding back around the bed and toward the door he motioned inward with his hand, inviting the other young man in. "No need to hover in the door. You are free to make yourself comfortable," he said, starting to rethink his decision not to make his bed. It probably wouldn't matter if it was all askew, but it would have looked nicer if he'd at least laid the comforter out on top. Too late now, though. He'd just have to live with any disapproval.
"I do not have so many movies, but maybe you will find something you do not hate."

"I enjoy most people," he said with a shrug. Gender had never really been a determining factor for him when it came to attraction. As a human personality had always seemed like a more pressing thing, and as a mutant there were so many different types of individuals out there that it was even more difficult to keep any of them in a box. The way he saw it Aleksandr had a lot of love to share and to deny anyone the pleasure of getting to know him would be a crime.
He could appreciate her jealousy, too. Who wouldn't be jealous of someone so magnificent? Even those that openly threw hatred his way had to have been jealous on some level, it was just buried underneath the other levels of bad taste. But even bad taste could be corrected with time.
"That is unfortunate," he replied. Family disagreements seemed to be a very common thing among mutants, and far too many of them wound up leaving their homes because of it. It was tragic that so many people refused to see how magnificent mutants were. "But I am glad you were able to find the sister." At least there was a silver lining for her story.
How long had he been in New York? He had to take a moment to think about it. "I think it is seven or eight years I am living here maybe?" Had it really been that long already? Sometimes it still felt like he'd only just left home. He supposed time could fly by when not stuck in what felt like an eternal winter. "I am not so close with my family anymore, either. But it was the cold that I was moving from. Winters in Russia are too long for reptiles."

Aleksandr didn't know what a 'vix' was but based on context it was probably some kind of pet. Were pets allowed at Honeycomb? He hadn't thought to ask, but they must have been if Derek had one. It was just as well. Not every animal was comfortable sharing a space with an enormous snake, particularly the smaller ones like rabbits or hamsters. Dogs weren't often so bad, but they were very high energy and any one that had a strong protective streak for the owner was disinclined to let Aleksandr get very close. Moving the party to his empty floor would make things simpler.
"Of course," he assured Derek, curious as to what the young man would change into. Probably something like pajamas. Aleksandr didn't wear them, but the fabric always felt nice and soft. The silky kind was his favorite. There was just something so luxurious about it and they tended to hold in body heat, which he loved. The latter reason had even prompted him to find a bed set made of the stuff once he'd settled into the Co-Op. If he could sleep on a sunbeam, as he often daydreamed, he imagined it would feel like silky bed sheets.
He watched Derek disappear up the stairs and then entered the second floor. Lazily he slid around the common area and collected a couple of coffee mugs he'd left lying around and put them into the sink before moving on to gather up the few blankets he had strewn across the couches and floor and condensed them into a pile which he tossed into one corner of his room. The bed wasn't made, but at least those blankets had stayed off the floor so he left it as it was.
There wasn't exactly an impressive collection of DVDs at his disposal. Aleksandr was a bit of a sucker for romantic comedies and occasionally an action movie or a Western so that was really all he had to offer. But he supposed if nothing from his small collection was to the other young man's taste there were always plenty of TV channels to flip through until they found something satisfactory. There might not even be very much time spent paying attention to the movie anyway, so it wasn't worth worrying about.

Aleksandr's fingers found their way into Derek's hair as he bent to accept another kiss. Having lost his own hair years ago he now found the texture to be very pleasing and enjoyed playing with it whenever allowed. He could feel the hesitation from the other young man, though, so he reeled himself back and didn't push his boundaries quite so boldly this time. He was almost entirely positive that a snake wasn't something the young man had dealt with before and would have to remind himself to slow down a little bit. New experiences could be disorienting and overwhelming.
Once the kiss was broken and Derek admitted that he did want to start heading back to Honeycomb, he nodded and turned Derek and himself around so they could start making their way back to the Park exit. They'd be heading back to the same building anyway, but getting an invitation to visit Derek's room was promising.
"We can maybe do all of those things," he replied, the grin sliding back onto his face at the thought. Movies were always the best excuse for curling up with another person, and sharing space like that made it so easy to see just how close they could squeeze. Aleksandr was very good at squeezing. "We are going to your room or to my floor?"

So the problem wasn't that Aleksandr hadn't been careful enough with his teeth. That was good. As much as he tried to be mindful of the fangs sometimes he did slip up and not many people appreciated being bitten by someone like him. A trip to the hospital for stitches or worse really would have ruined the night for the both of them. And possibly any mundane other run-ins at Honeycomb, too. Nothing like sharing a building from someone that accidentally poisoned you.
From the sound of things it had just been a case of jitters and overthinking which, as bold and relaxed as Aleksandr usually was, he wasn't always entirely immune to either. Things were still relatively on track, they'd just been momentarily derailed by insecurity and what-ifs. That was a lot easier to deal with than trips to the hospital. A lot less messy, too.
"No, nothing is sour," he assured Derek, chucking at the attempted recovery. "Maybe I should have given warning. Not everyone is liking the feeling of scales." Or a forked tongue. Or the lack of human lips in general. Kissing a snake had to be an unusual experience. Most people didn't like the idea of touching snakes with their hands, nevermind doing it with their lips. At least Derek was being a good sport about it.
"You are wanting to go home now?" he asked again, wanting to give the other young man the option in case he wasn't comfortable staying out any longer. Aleksandr had no problems with how the night was progressing, despite the hiccups, but nerves could be difficult for some people to deal with and he knew having options and exits could sometimes be appreciated.

Aleksandr had to laugh at the ladies comment, equally as amused by the boldness of the statement as he was by the comment itself. He could appreciate it when others were blunt since he tended to be that way as well. It certainly kept conversations interesting. "You are not wrong. Is not so bad with the men, too," he said with a shrug, grin still in place. He did have a bit of a silver tongue, in more ways than one.
"That is also true," he agreed, appreciating the young woman's good taste. "Is very fortunate for me, but I have not found so many ugly mutants," he continued, absentmindedly rolling his glass between his hands. "Being not so human has changed my perspective on many things. Is much easier to find beauty in the unusual when you are not looking so usual anymore." That was something that had taken him some time to figure out, but he considered himself much better off now that he had.
"You are not from here," he continued, a statement more than a question as he followed after the next thought that entered his mind. Accents tended to be a dead giveaway. "You are here to harass the American bars for their absurd laws, or is there another reason?"

Kissing a snake had to be an interesting experience. Aleksandr no longer had lips in the traditional sense, but his mouth still functioned mostly the same. He wasn't sure how appealing the feeling of his scales were, but then he hadn't had too many complaints in the past. He was also incredibly aware of his teeth an tried to be as careful as possible so he wouldn't accidentally hurt the young man. Nothing ruined a good kiss like a bitten tongue or a split lip.
He smirked into the kiss and leaned in a little further as Derek moaned and grabbed for his neck, taking it as encouragement. He was enjoying the way the young man melted under his touch and how hot his face felt. He reveled in the rising body heat and the tastes and smells that came with it.
When Derek finally pulled away and quickly hid his face, the smirk gradually slid from Aleksandr's expression, worried that perhaps he hadn't been quite careful enough with his sharper bits. "You are not hurt, yes?" he prompted, running a hand up and down Derek's back in an attempt to be soothing.
The next words were soft and a bit muffled against his chest, but the snake managed to catch the majority of them. "Are you not having fun?" he asked, confused over the sudden shift into seriousness. He thought they had been enjoying themselves, playful teasing included. Had he perhaps misread the signals a little? Maybe his timing was off?
"I do not mean to tease or play in a bad way," he continued, concerned that the night may be coming to an unexpected halt. Aleksandr hadn't been intending to do any emotional damage, nor had he even considered it. As far as he was concerned it was just a night of fun without any kind of future set in stone.

Aleksandr chuckled at the gentle teasing. Not very many found the idea of hunting or ingesting raw meat to be a very peasant one. Knowing how snakes ate their meals probably wasn't a very pretty picture when applied to the mutant, either. "Children not so much. Usually they have parents attached that are always making a big fuss," he said with a small grin. Even when he was simply lounging in an area where children might wander parents gave him a very wide berth. "But yes, mostly the small mammals. Sometimes a little deer if I can catch it, but that is only sometimes. Even small deer is too much for one meal." At least the local scavengers didn't go hungry on those occasions.
The snake man listened attentively as Derek tried to explain his abilities, stopping when he did and letting his arm slip from the young man's shoulders. He could appreciate how difficult it was to explain a mutation, especially the ones that weren't physical like his own. Body language he could understand, being a very physical kind of creature, but it was hard to imagine using it to command another animal. There had to be some kind of mental aspect to it all. Maybe Derek was one of the psychic mutant types?
Blinking slowly and with a slight tilt of his head Aleksandr waited patiently for the young man to begin again after he trailed off. However, it seemed as if his train of thought had come off the tracks. An amused smile slid onto his face and he swerved just a little to find where the young man's gaze had moved to.
"Maybe details for explaining are not so important," he said, reaching out to gently take a hold of Derek's chin and tilt his face back up. Holding a conversation was more engaging when eye contact could be maintained, but even more than that it was so entertaining to watch Derek start to melt if he looked at the serpentine face for too long. Very carefully he swiped a nail across the young man's lower lip, wanting to see what kind of reaction it would draw out. "Is the body language that sounds like the fun part."
With a sly smirk he bent to press his lips to Derek's.

"After shedding the scales are very shiny, but they are very sensitive also. I do not know that the itching is worth it." Or the peeling, or the impairment to his vision. Aleksandr would much rather spend some extra time scrubbing his scales under the shower to give them a nice shine than spend several miserable days peeling his own skin off.
He gave a nod in response to Derek's surprise over the hunting comment. "Oh yes, is very exciting. Fresh meat is always better than what is at the store," he said, finding the whole thing to be very natural. He was a predator after all, and predators hunted. Even humans hunted, though their methods weren't often so hands-on.
So he was a mutant. The 'animal charmer' comment made much more sense now in hindsight, too. Aleksandr wasn't entirely sure where he stood on the concept of fate but with all the odds that were already being met, being a snake man and pairing off with an animal influencer for a night seemed to be a bit too sensational for mere coincidence.
"How does this work?" he asked, curious now and using the opportunity to do a little digging like Derek had been doing with him for most of the evening.

"Yes, is only thing I do not like about mutation," he said, a pained look crossing his face at the thought of it. "Is happening only maybe two or three times a year, but is very itchy and annoying. All of the old skin comes off. Is not very nice to look at." Aside from the cold weather, shedding was the only other reason Aleksandr would confine himself to his room for long periods of time. There was nothing attractive about leaving a trail of old scales in his wake.
"Eating is still mostly like humans. My stomach is the same size and I do not have very slow digestion like snakes," he continued, much less troubled by that aspect of himself. "I eat mostly meat now and usually I hunt for it. My teeth are making it hard for me to eat other things." He had an enormous sweet tooth, too, the cruelest trick of them all.
"I am wanting to be in nature almost always, but there are not so many opportunities in the city," he answered. The Park was a nice place to retreat to but with so many other people visiting and things like operating hours it was hard to truly feel lost in the greenery. "Is sometimes hard to give up things like heat lamps and mattresses, though."
Glancing down at Derek he nearly stopped short when a thought hit him. "I forget to ask if you are mutant also." He'd been so wrapped up in talking about himself and teasing the young man that the thought had failed to cross his mind.
