The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Finding a place to stay made sense. It wouldn't be such a difficult feat either given they were in the city, though finding a place that didn't need rent was slightly trickier. Someone from the Other Side certainly wouldn't have any income to pay a rent check so he'd have to settle for something slightly less upscale. Aleksandr didn't think he'd plan on sticking around long enough to find a job, not that he blamed him. Had he been stuck in on the wrong side he'd be eager to get back, too.
"Well, Sanctuary is good place to start looking," he began, one hand sliding up into the tangle of tails at his his and coming away with one twisting through his fingers as he thought. "There are some... unsavory individuals living there, but the building is very good mutant shelter and easy to get a room from, no cost. Is getting better since new management has moved in." There didn't seem to be much that could be done about certain mutants living on the property, but the hive of baddies that had once lived there seemed to have moved on. From what he had heard it was a much more peaceful place to be that it had once been. "Also Haven Apartments is making good name for itself, but I do not know what the rent may be." Again, paying for a room might be tricky, but the option was there.
The snake man leaned in a bit to catch the last of the young man's questions, a bit confused as to why the X-Men would elicit such a hushed tone. How curious. "X-Men are working at Xavier's Mansion. Also a place for mutants to stay, but you will need to be student or teacher I think. They are also maybe working with police to watch the Portal," he answered with a shrug. He hadn't looked too far into it, finding the news to be repetitive and boring after a certain point. It was much more interesting to see it for himself.
"Now, lunch," he began, glancing up and around as if a restaurant might jump out and catch his attention. "Is the city, so there are many good places to eat for most people. There is nice place a few blocks from here that I like. Good food and is mutant friendly." Big doorway, bigger seating options, and friendly, often mutant wait staff. "Is nothing fancy, but they are making one of the best burgers in the city I think."

So the boy was lost. Very lost. Aleksandr hadn't been near the portal when it had appeared since the festival contained too many people that could have trodden on him, but the news had made it out to be quite an event. It wasn't all that surprising that at least a few people wound up on the wrong side of things, but it was a shame nonetheless. So much security had been set up around the Rift that it had to have been made very difficult to get back to where they'd come from.
"Well, I do not think you are getting back through the portal very soon," he replied apologetically, dropping his hands on his hips as he looked the young man over. He was cute, but he wouldn't stand out in a crowd. That was probably beneficial for someone stuck in an strange place. Easier not to make waves that way and the patrol around the Rift might be more forgiving of a human face. It was just a matter of when they'd start correcting things and letting people back through the portal.
A map was easy enough, though. They could be readily found all over the city since there were so many tourists that came through. It wasn't too hard to get directions from other people, either. But if he was unfamiliar with the city it could still be confusing even with a map in hand. "There is something you are looking for specifically?" he asked, assuming he could at least point the young man in the right direction for a start.

The Rip that had appeared during the eclipse had gotten the city buzzing. It was all anyone wanted to talk about, it dominated the news stations and papers, it drew a near-constant crowd monitored around the clock by a rather tired looking parade of uniformed individuals. It was exciting to say the least and Aleksandr was always looking for a little excitement in his life.
The year was quickly slipping away and taking with it the summer warmth. Chilly days were already sandwiching themselves between warmer ones and the breezes that passed by were starting to carry a bite. There was increasingly less time for the reptilian individual to spend outdoors soaking up the dying heat before he'd be forced indoors for extended periods of time during the next few months. A mystery portal provided the perfect excuse to get out of his apartment and spend the day wandering the city. Not that he ever really needed an excuse.
The atmosphere among the others out on the streets was tenser than normal. People were a little on edge and much more interested in watching the others passing around them. Aleksandr didn't mind the attention one little bit, but he was saddened by the additional concern and apprehension that it carried with it. Not many people were acceptably appreciative of him on a normal day, but now there was more of an edge to it. He hoped that frequenting the streets as often as he did would at least mark him as a familiar face among some people and wouldn't mistake him for one of the distrusted 'others' from the opposite side of the Rift.
Side-winding his way toward the side of a building to avoid a gaggle of young girls hurrying by with their arms interlocked, he took a moment to stop and look around for himself. He enjoyed people watching anyway and with so much activity in the city lately there was plenty for him to look at. A rather lost looking young man stopped not far from him caught his attention for whatever reason. There wasn't anything remarkable or eye-catching about him, but he drew the serpent's eye nonetheless. He didn't seem to be rushing off anywhere which made him a good target. The only thing the snake liked better than people watching was interacting with people.
"You are looking like you are getting lost," he commented casually, sidling up to the young man once he found a break in the passing crowd to slide through. "Are you needing directions to be getting somewhere?"

Aleksandr never tired of being called a model. He really should start looking into that as a potential career. Being compared to a model was one thing, but it was another to be the genuine article. He could only imagine the kind of praise and attention he'd get if he were to become a professional. A life full of cameras and fawning would be a dream.
"You are wanting traditional Russian, hm?" he replied, letting go of a sigh as Derek touched and kissed at his scales. "This will not be so difficult. There should be most ingredients around in the kitchen somewhere." As infrequently as he cooked for himself he still tried to keep the kitchen well-stocked. A barren fridge was a sorry sight indeed and it would be shameful if he wanted or needed to feed someone and came up empty handed. "But for now I am thinking there is time first for some sleeping.

"Helping is fine if you are wanting to," Aleksandr replied, sliding an arm around the back of his head and bringing the tails around to rest across his shoulder to relieve some pressure from them. He didn't often lie on his back for very long, but the rest of him was so comfortable at the moment that a little discomfort around his head was bearable. It provided a good excuse to get himself a heat pack later for any cramped muscles, too.
"I am not cooking so much for me," he continued, settling back down with the arm behind his neck and heaving a contented sigh. "Is not so much a chore if it is not being done often. It is good for me to be staying in practice." He probably should be cooking more often. Raw meats were all well and good but it wouldn't hurt him to up his vegetable intake. Maybe he could find some recipes that would make eating them easier. Derek being around would help him get off his lazy scales and start using his kitchen more regularly, too. Maybe he could even volunteer to start cooking a few things for the communal dining room in the basement. The Co-Op was already becoming a worthwhile investment.
Five more times. No, seven. Aleksandr could live with that. Hell, he thrived on that kind of thing. And with the kid living just a few floors away it would be exceedingly easy to meet their quota. Maybe even exceed their quota. If Derek wanted to write a nice, thorough report then there really wasn't any way to overdo things. They could go for both quality and quantity. "I am thinking we can manage these things easily." Provided they didn't both fall asleep too quickly afterward. That part might be more of a challenge. The bed was just so warm and comfy and there was so much body heat to leech. It would be hard to leave it.
"You are welcome to be staying as long as you want," he replied, his hand falling still and simply resting against the young man's skin. Aleksandr's bed was certainly big enough to entertain a guest for a night and there were several other empty ones if Derek decided that things were getting a little too crowded. "I will even cook for breakfast when the morning comes." Or maybe lunch, depending on when they managed to get out of bed. How late was it anyway? It would probably turn out to be a late morning. Either way cooking wasn't something the serpent did very often so he enjoyed the opportunity when it presented itself.

"Xavier is good school and not so terrible place to live if you are not minding the noise," he said, not having meant to discredit the institution. He'd merely been making an observation, but he could see how that particular view could be off putting. "There is reason it is so well known. Is not just because it is for mutants, but because Mansion is good place for learning even with some construction." Schooling regular kids was challenging enough, but throw in super powers and the occasional remodel and it was pretty impressive that the place managed to continue running so smoothly for so long.
It was a shame that the young woman wasn't fond of the idea of returning home, but that was an unfortunate thread of similarity that ran through a lot of the mutant community. Aleksandr himself would feel rather awkward if he returned home. Not only was the weather detrimental to his health now, but he'd spent a lot of time gradually cutting ties with his friends and family. Trying to return after that seemed like more trouble than it was worth. Life in the US suited him well enough though, so he couldn't say he missed Russia too terribly.
"I am thinking you will do well here," he continued, swapping his bottle from one hand to another to alleviate the cold in his fingers. Having a plan certainly helped, even if it was just a bare bones kind of thing. Heading over the the Mansion would provide both schooling and shelter as well as community, so it seemed like a good first step. "You are seeming to be smart girl and you are already having family here for helping you. Maybe just with less fighting the bartenders."

Aleksandr's long tongue slid back into his mouth just in time for Derek's hand to pass over his face, sparing him to potential discomfort of getting any more saliva all over his fingers. He heaved a contented sigh, enjoying the smell of his skin and the warmth against his scales.
"We must be watching it at least one or three times more," he agreed, already looking forward to the possible future makeout sessions. Maybe they'd actually watch more than a few minutes of the movie next time, though he couldn't say he'd be all that quick to complain if they happened to miss it again. They'd just have to keep meeting up and retrying until they managed to get through the whole film. If their current position said anything, that could take a while.
He curled closer to Derek, his sharp nails dragging lazily over the young man's stomach as he let himself drift a little. He could easily fall asleep where he was, warm and satisfied, but that probably wasn't the polite thing to do. "You are wanting to stay here for what is left of the night? Or you are maybe wanting to be in your own bed?"

"Oh yes. He was put in prison and then deported for what he is writing," Aleksandr replied with a nod, tapping a sharp nail against his bottle as he thought. He hadn't done much in-depth reading about the author, but he'd skimmed enough information to know the highlights. Even just the gleaned information it was interesting. "He was sent to Germany and then America, but he became Soviet citizen again before he died in Russia." A difficult, dangerous life to be sure but those that go against the grain often were.
He could sympathize with the feeling of strangeness that came with moving to the States. It was quite an adjustment for him to make as well and it all sort of felt like a waking dream for a while before he'd started to really settle in. "Is maybe not as fun as the books, but this Wonderland is having its interesting moments. At least there is no Queen wanting to roll heads."
As for taking the city by storm, that wasn't such an unappealing idea. Maybe he should pursue the modelling thing in earnest and get his gorgeous self plastered all over New York. Being a politician wasn't the only way to hold power in a city. "This is true. Is hard to get much better than I am already," he replied shamelessly, soaking in all the flattery like a vain sponge. He made a mental note to give the girl credit if he did decide to make a career out of his looks and it panned out well.
"You are going to be storming the city also?" he asked. As much as he loved daydreaming about his greatness and being the center of attention it was only polite to continue splitting the focus of the conversation between them. No that he didn't enjoy speaking to get girl in the first place. "Now that you are finding your sister you are going to stay here with her or you are going back to your home?"

The stories of Wonderland had become some of Aleksandr's favorites, though his reading collection was sorely lacking so perhaps that wasn't saying much. Reading was more of a cold weather activity for him, something to help keep himself occupied while he curled up under his heat lamps and tried to forget the chill that kept him indoors. If he read more throughout the year he might find it more pleasurable than tedious but as it was he was just too busy spending his time out in the world whenever the weather allowed. Alice, in all her confusion and frustration, was a sympathetic character.
The writer that shared his name, however, wasn't quite so interesting and his work certainly wasn't found in the serpent's personal collection. "Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, he was writer of many novels and short stories, lots of history. Very critical of Soviet Union and communism and was part of bringing the world's attention to Gulag. He won Nobel Prize for the writing. Not really in my interests, but still important." History was often sad and depressing. He'd rather stick to fantasy and other lighter subjects.
"I am having more interest in being a Great Aleksandr than one for writing. You are interested in being an Alice in a Wonderland?"

"Is more in the past, yes. There are not seeming to be too many bad groups as there used to be, so there are not so many things being destroyed at the school now," he replied. The worst fights mostly seemed to have happened before he'd gotten to the school and had learned about second hand, but there were always smaller incidents and the possibility of future attacks. "X-Men are more organized than most, so I am thinking this is dissuading too many attacks from others that do not like them. Or maybe interest is shifting. Is hard to tell." If anything the X's seemed to have the upper hand through sheer endurance. Being as structured as they were made it easier to keep things running and their group active.
He chuckled at the book reference, not having caught it at first. He did have to say the mother had good taste, though. "Ah, I like this book also. Is not so easy to read without good English, but I am now understanding most of it." It certainly could be a confusing thing to read, but it was also very interesting. Aleksandr had enjoyed how imaginative the stories were.
The history of his name he knew a little better, but it was easy to know those kind of things when it was more personal. "Is a very popular name in Russia, yes," he replied with a nod. The spelling wasn't always the same, but that could be said of any common name. "Alexander The Great is probably the best known man, but there is a well known Russian writer with this name, also."

"There are always things happening at the Mansion," he began, picking the conversation back up as he took a sip from his bottle. The first sip was always the best. "Children with new powers are always being trouble so there is always messes to clean. But X-Men are living there also and they are not always so friendly with everyone," he continued. It seemed like most people would know those kind of things, but he could understand being out of the loop when she had come from outside the states. It had taken some time for him to catch up as well. "There is always seeming to be rebuilding somewhere. Angry mutants like to be blowing up the place." Not quite so often anymore, but even uncommon bombings were a problem.
He chuckled at her apology and gave a dismissive wave. She wasn't the only one at fault there. "Is my fault also. I am not always so good with manners. Is a very nice name, though. It rolls off the tongue in a good way." He emphasized by flicking his tongue playfully. He just hoped he didn't accidentally drag out the name's 's' sound as he worked his way through more alcohol. That was one stereotype he could live without perpetuating.

It hardly took more than a few short moments for the heat in the room to sharply spike amidst a tangle of sheets and skin contact. Aleksandr wished he could coil up in the smells and sensations and never leave. Everything else in the world grew hazy fell away and faded to black. It was exquisite.
---
Exactly how much time had passed was hard to tell. The movie had long since rolled through its credits and was left playing trough the main menu loop. It was still dark outside, but he couldn't say for how much longer. Not that he particularly cared. There hardly seemed to be anything more pressing than simply staying curled up in his warm bed and continuing to leech body heat from its other occupant. Aleksandr was feeling particularly relaxed and even a little punch-drunk. It would be a shame when it wore off.
"I am thinking we have missed the best parts of the movie," he mumbled, tightening and then relaxing his coils to stretch the muscles as they cooled. Lazily his tongue flickered through the air, savoring the scents that still hung in the room. It hadn't been such a bad night after all. He might have to chase after Derek again sometime in the future.

Closer and closer the other mutant kept scooting, bringing that delicious body heat with him to cover more and more of Aleksandr's scales. The desire for that kind of warmth was like an unscratchable itch. Even if their bodies were fully flush against each other it still wouldn't be enough, but that didn't mean he wasn't willing to take what he could get. If the heat continued to rise between them he might not be able to help himself.
The weight of the leg Derek swung over his tail caused it to curl even further up onto the bed, reacting to the pressure and the warmth without thinking, though there was a conscious effort made not to curl it around the young man. It wouldn't do the startle him or put him in fear of being constricted. Curling up with a snake had to be strange enough without bringing fear into the mix.
Aleksandr almost caught the whispered response to his teasing, but the sound from the movie made it hard to separate and distinguish the words. He simply had to assume it was something encouraging or goading, though assuming made it more difficult to reply appropriately. The kissing, on the other hand, was much easier to interpret.
Things were moving at a bit of a slow burn at the moment, which could be nice, but if they were going to get anywhere other than lazily curled up in bed then someone would have to start making a move. Aleksandr wasn't opposed to be the one that did it.
Sliding his arm out from behind Derek, he sat up and flipped over so the other young man was beneath him. He braced his weight on his hands on either wide of Derek's ribs and used Derek's slung over leg as a guide to rest the upper section of his tail between the young man's knees and keep his torso from resting on Derek's. His top half didn't weight much more than a normal person but the tail was heavy. It was best to ease into any weight distribution to make sure there wasn't too much discomfort.

The girl had good taste. She'd made it clear early on into their meeting, but the continued emphasis on how much she admired his looks was appreciated. Aleksandr was a painfully vain individual so any bit of praise he got was noted and enjoyed. Not everyone had such good taste, but those that did were often very forthcoming about it and made up for any disdain that might come his way.
"Oh yes, I enjoy the modeling very much," he replied, nodding enthusiastically. Vanity like his craved and thrived on that kind of attention and the bonus of being paid for it was just icing on the cake. "If that is something I can turn into steady jobs I would be happy to work every day." He would have to start searching a wider variety of want ads.
"Ah, the Mansion. I was there for a small time," he commented, not entirely surprised that it was on her list. A lot of young mutants moved to New York because of the school. It had made quite a name for itself even internationally. "Is not so bad if you are not bothered by children, but there is almost always trouble there." Either between the kids or some feud the X's had kicked up. It was hardly ever boring, but it did make it difficult to relax for any length of time. He simply nodded in response to the LGBT comment. There were a few of those places he'd sniffed out, though most of them were notably clubs or bars which wouldn't help the younger crowd.
Taking money from the girl hadn't been his plan, but she did seem fairly insistent. He'd rather not start an argument with her over it when they were trying to lay low and not draw attention to the underage drinking. It was easier to just call it even and accept the bills she pressed into his hand.
Quickly he slipped away from her and back to the bar to flag down the tender. It wasn't hard to get the attention of servers with such an obvious mutation, but that didn't stop them from serving those that had gotten there before him. It was a few minutes before he managed to order and receive his drinks. He decided to get a beer for himself this time, too, since he'd already had a few harder drinks by the time the young woman had made herself known. Maintaining his faint buzz seemed like the better route to take.
"I am just remembering," he began as he returned to where he'd left the young woman and passed back the change from the money she'd given him as well as the fresh bottle, "I did not ask your name yet. I am Aleksandr."
