The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gwen wasn’t sure if she liked the smile that appeared on the young man’s face. However, she really wasn’t expecting his reaction to be, well, that. After an awkward, uncomfortable moment, she gave a very timid shrug. “I… Uh, well, sometimes, yes. If I see something peculiar,” she mumbled out in a bad attempt to explain herself.
She had to think carefully, “Well, it’s just that there was donuts… Now they are not there. You were never in the line… But you have donuts… I do not think it is appropriate for individuals to come into donuts shops with other shops donuts, so…” That phrasing nearly made her head hurt. She sighed as she realized how complicated she made it sound.
With a shrug and a mutter, “I could have just given you some of mine. I have a ton. This is honestly one of the best parts of this time.” This time. She winced as she said that. Hopefully, he wouldn’t notice her slight confession of being from a different time period.
She nodded. A mutant had done that? “The world is a crazy place.” Wow, that must have been one crazy power. She wished her portal into her past was still here, it would make things a lot easier for her. At least people would be somewhat aware of it instead of never believing her…
It was done! She was almost officially a legal 21st-century citizen. Not a displaced citizen, at least. She nodded, took a small sheet of paper and grabbed a pen and it wrote it down for Amelia and handed it over to her. She couldn’t pronounce the name, anyway, so it was always easier for her to just write it. With a big smile, "Thank you, so, so much for this. You have my sincerest gratitude."
She had no idea what a social security card was but it sounded good and governmenty.
The post office! She loved the post office. At least, in her time she loved it. It was different now, “Will do… And yes, please, if you do not mind. I do not quite know the addresses around here yet. Plus, these little… devices are not much help to me as of yet.” She was clearly referencing a cell phone as she pointed to her purse.
She perked a brow, “What is a DMV, though?”
She smiled widely, “Oh, yes, I would quite love to be given a show around the city by you.” The officer was very nice and sweet to help her not only on a notice but so fast as well. The offer was very sweet of her.
Gwen nervously waited for Charlie’s response. Magic wasn’t too big of a deal to her, at least in her time. She brushed it off. But in this new world, new time, she really had no idea. Her nerves had skyrocketed and she really had no idea what was going on.
She nodded slowly, a small sigh of relief escaping her mouth. Gwen stayed very close to Charlie, slightly confused about how shiny the inside of the building was. What type of material was this…? It reminded her of some of the very large, big buildings. Questions for another day, though.
Once on the overhang, Gwen’s mouth nearly dropped as she looked at the scene below her. There were so many people, loads of boxes being loaded up, a table with meetings. Wow. How would someone ever even find out about this place? They had their own town here.
She nodded again. So, she’d be using her powers to spy on people that hurt the organization – hurt mutants, like herself. Humanity never changed. It may have been naïve for her to jump into a position where she was spying on people, but they were only helping people, right? If it was for helping, then Gwen would happily do it. Plus, not worrying about starving or homelessness was a great bonus.
>>"You should really come visit the Mansion. We can help you with that... and we can also tell you about our experiences with people around the city. There are some groups that use powers for personal gain, and some that are even willing to capture mutants with useful powers. It is good to know about all those to be safe."
She nodded, "I really, really do. You think so?" She did need to go to the mansion at some point, definitely. If anything, to see Gawain again. He could be a great friend. But what did he mean, capture mutants with useful powers? She perked a brow, a concerned look quickly appearing on her face. She didn't realize it but she got quieter, "Someone is kidnapping mutants...?"
Gwen knew her story tended to invoke strange thoughts from people, so she usually kept her mouth closed about the situation unless asked about it after she tells her story. It isn't like it's that great of a thing but people tend to realize how weird it would be to be out of their own time. Gwen knew first hand how wild it feels.
Once outside of the subway station, Gwen immediately relaxed. She really wasn't one for these enclosed spaces with cars, elevators, and underground train things. It was remarkable inventions, for sure, but Gwen preferred her feet and a horse and maybe a carriage. Of course, two of those weren't options in big ole NYC.
She nodded and followed Stephanie close. She wasn't about to get lost and she actually wasn't told where the woman lived. Not like it would matter - Gwen didn't do directions in the city well.
Hearing Stephanie speak, Gwen made sure to pay close attention to her instead of the guys who weren't wearing shirts (in the cold?) and the girls in their short shorts. It was really confusing to Gwen. Not only was everyone nearly naked, but they didn't seem to care much about the weather. Weird.
She nodded, "I'll be in the back of your mind." She gave Stephanie a playful wink. She wasn't exactly what she would be doing but she could definitely help Stephanie get through the maze of security systems, at least. Hopefully, at least. Gwen blushed. The woman did have gorgeous eyes and gorgeous... Ugh, everything. Gwen even got little cold chills thinking more... Intriguing thoughts about the woman. She cleared her throat weakly, "Something close to you, something you've touched, anything like that."
Gwen gave Lee a smile. The woman was going to be able to make it work, she could sense it. She'd have to put a lot of time and patience into it, of course, but she could do it.
She gave her a curt nod, "Please do. I have plenty of free time on my hands, I do not mind helping a friendly soul out if I can." She took a sip of her coffee as she waited for Lee to get her phone out. She chuckled quietly, "Well, we all have strengths and weaknesses. It is understandable. To be frank, I would not be very good at the business side. At least, not at this time."
In her time? A whole other story. She'd whisper into her dad's ear and get him all sorts of good deals. Business was a lot different than in 1862.
Gwenslinked behind Agnes, nervous about riding in the elevator. A few mental pushes, it's okay, everyone uses them, it was definitely not a tiny box of death... Gwen stared for a moment as Agnes went into the elevator and waved to her. Gwen couldn't believe she was about to do but... She slowly stepped inside. With a nervous chuckle, "I do not like these... Metal box things," she grumbled, unsure if she was loud enough for Agnes to hear.
She nearly squirmed a little bit as she felt a hand run up and down her back. At first, the feeling was a surprise - she wasn't expecting the woman to touch her like that. At the same time, it was relaxing - her nerves fell some, but most of all the fear that had bubbled into her chest.
With a ding, Gwen followed Agnes out onto the top. She looked across the sky top, taking in the lowering sun and the beautiful woman who was posing in front of her.
>>”Breathtaking, isn’t it?”
Gwen nodded slowly as she took all the sites in - the light, the sun, the large, tall buildings that dotted the landscape. And, of course, the beautiful woman. She smiled, her cheeks a little flushed as she looked Agnes straight into those beautiful, deep blue eyes, "Yes, yo- it is quite breathtaking, breathtaking indeed." However, Gwen wasn't one to want to wait around on top of a huge building that made no real sense. She wanted to go back to the safety of the ground.
Gwen didn't realize how well Agnes knew New York City. She knew all the crooks and crannies of the different spots in the city. Gwen learned more Agnes than she learned from any of the 'internet.' It was helpful for the big stuff but all the little stores, the little sites, the history? She never would have known without Agnes. The woman knew her city, that was undeniable.
Gwen took a breath as she stared at the large, towering skyscraper. It was a gorgeous building - and it's height was very impressive. The manpower to build such a building had to be astounding. Gwen couldn't imagine being some of those construction workers, especially back in the day. Or even in this day, honestly. It had to be terrifying - just looking down, staring at the ground.
She felt Agnes hand slip into hers and made her insides go all sorts of tingly. She wasn't expecting her hand to be in hers. She nearly gasped, the intensity of the emotions that triggered in her at Agnes touch. Before she knew, she was getting pulled towards the entrance to the building.
>> ”Come on. Don’t you want to see what it’s like on top of the world? I won’t let you fall off. I promise, I’ll hold you tight.”
Gwendolyn nearly shook her head. She would actually prefer not to see the top of the world. Or be anywhere near it. But did she really want to say that to Agnes? Could she be honest with her about her fear of those... Elevators? With a nervous giggle, she nodded, "I'm holding you to that." That was flirty, right? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad getting into the elevator thing. She'd handled most of everything else fine - surely she could deal with an elevator. With a deep breath, she moved into the building behind Agnes and headed towards that steel, terrifying, thing.
Gwen had agreed to go with the woman off into the city to be shown the 'sites.' What sites they were going to see even Gwen wasn't sure - was it more bodily sites or was it actual New York sites? Gwen's body tingled with anxiety, anticipation, and... Thrill? That had to be the other feeling going throughout her body.
She watched Agnes stand up out of the chair and took a deep breath while she watched her show off her curvaceous body. She couldn't believe she was so attractive, geez. She nodded slowly and put her hand delicately into Agnes hand as she stood up slowly. She took a breath at the skin contact and that alone made her take a deep breath, "Let's see the sites, shall we?"
At first, she figured they would go see some sites, like the statue of liberty or something... But then...? Maybe they'd end up at Agnes apartment for some real site seeing? She wasn't sure if she knew how to, well, do site seeing with a woman. But, if she never tried, she'd never know.
In either case, the first site was the Empire State Building. She had heard about it but didn't really know that much about it. She stared up from the street at the large, crazy tall building. Still afraid of elevators, she wasn't sure if she'd ever actually make it to the top of some of these large buildings. Eesh.
Gwen crossed her legs, nervously looking around the Police Department. She really wasn't sure what to do besides wait for the officer's instructions. It wasn't like she had any control at this point, anyways. She nodded politely at some of her comments but mostly kept focusing on the drunkards that were getting drug into the department. Right like in 1862. She nearly laughed about it.
She nodded, "I had heard about the 'rip' as it is called. I read about it in the newspaper. Freaky things, if you ask me." Not like she could really be talking, she had violet eyes and came from 1862. But still, at least her rip was easily explained and went away. This rip was just out and about, letting people come and go at will. Weird! She leaned in, perked a brow, "Do you know how it came to be?"
Gwen smiled as the woman mentioned that it was an easy and hard question. It seemed like the way of the 21st century - of course, that was the way in her time. Clothes changes, technology changes, but humanity doesn't. It was kind of funny, truly.
A clothing boutique? Ooh! That piqued Gwendolyn's interest. After all, she was a skilled tailor. She could thread a dress together easily. Kind of easily, anyways. She wasn't entirely sure what the materials were made of in this time but probably similar if not the same as in her time... Hopefully, anyways.
She nodded as she listened to Lee's honesty and her worry. She gave the woman an encouraging smile, "Opening a business is quite a difficult yet rewarding thing to do." She nearly wanted to give the woman's hand a squeeze of confidence, "It will take hard work, for both of you. But, it will work out so long as you put effort into it. Not to mention, I can repair clothes and make dresses. Part of the whole being a woman in the 18th century thing," she chuckled. "I can give you my..." she paused, trying to remember what a cell phone was called, "device's number. Just give me a ring if you need me."
Gwen squirmed in her seat for a little bit longer, debating if she still had time to run away and hide forever. After all, it was a terrifying new experience realizing she was attracted to someone - specifically, another woman. It was confusing, to say the least. Part of it was definitely jealous at the woman for being so darn attractive and so darn teasing. Didn't the woman know she wasn't use to this?
Gwen knew she was probably making a fool of herself. She needed to get her cool together. But she had never been someone to hide her feelings or her expressions. She just let it out there. There was no point in hiding it, right? She sighed as she stared at the blue eyed woman and tried to think about how to reply to her question. Was she on edge? Yeah, she just found out she liked women and it was pretty sudden, too. It was definitely not something she expected when she woke up. Well, there were signs, she supposed, but still.
She licked her lips slowly and took a sip of her coffee, "I am... Fine. I think. What kind of places will you show me?" She asked weakly, attempting to be flirty back.
She wasn't one to really instigate something, but she was curious why the boy had just decided to steal the donuts. Well, presuming he stole them in the first place. He didn't look homeless or something. Or maybe he did and Gwen just didn't realize that? She, rather embarrassingly, never really paid attention to the homeless of the city. She'd throw a coin here and there, but she never actually noticed noticed them. Maybe she wasn't that great of a person?
He seemed to examine her for a moment - maybe he thought she was a threat? Hopefully not, especially if he attacked her. She was not a fighter, nope. She'd get slaughtered. She pulled one of the chairs out and slowly sat down, keeping her eyes on him. She needed to be sure to jump out of the way in case he flipped out on her, right? She took a breath, "Did you steal the donuts?" She whispered it, she didn't want anyone else to hear her say it to him. She didn't want to get the boy in trouble or anything.
She blended in. Mostly, at least. That was a good sign. That made things a lot easier, that's for sure. No one staring, gaping, trying to figure out who she is or was. She could just observe, watch, and stay as close to Charlie as possible. She observed the 'cars,' the billboards, the what seemed like endless people walking on the streets. There was so, so many people. Even in her there hadn't been this many people, goodness. She wasn't sure if she enjoyed the huge, overwhelming presence of millions of people or not.
Gwen took a step inside the Atlantis Club and her eyes widened as she glanced around. There was a flurry of activity from the workers. It looked like there was going to be quite the party tonight. Interesting place to get a job at, that's for sure. She nodded. She wasn't entirely sure why Charlie whispered but she figured there must have been a reason so she didn't' to stay mostly quiet.
Following behind Charlie, they arrived in front of a door that read restricted. Real magic happens? Did magic exist now...? She had believed it to be fake in her time, superstition, "Magic...? Real magic...? I thought those were for witches and devils... Fairy tales." She whispered, her eyes wide. What did she get herself into?
