The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Well, you didn't trust me then, yet you expected me to trust you when you come home reeking of another man..." he said, his eyes narrowing into a scowl as he looked at her.
Wait...he made it easier? He did? Really? She thought of him when she was at work? Okay, so that did make it easier for him to swallow, and something told him she meant it. But then, the conversation sweetened, and she was taking the first steps she'd taken since she got home, and his demeanor relaxed considerably.
"I love you too, Lee[/i]" he murmured, still not getting up from his desk, but he closed his laptop. Work could wait; his girlfriend was more important.

"Well, you did walk out without listening to reason after I explained how overbearing Gladys was, yet you can go out and flirt and come home steeped in another man's cologne, after not even telling me where you were going, but that's okay...And you must like it enough seeing as how you're apparently getting invited to penthouses based on it..." He bit his lip as he looked away, down at his desk.
But then that word had come out, and he looked up at her, and she was smiling now...
His smile grew as well, those words starting to sink in. "I...I love you too, Lee..." he murmured, more tears welling up in his eyes, but this time they weren't angry or sad. He just couldn't believe...
Sure, he'd said he loved her a while back, but it was never reciprocated, but now...she was saying it, and he could tell she meant it.

"I don't know, but the evidence is pretty damning," he grumbled as his eyes locked on her. "And that's the thing; my female clients get odd looks, but you go out and flirt and show skin every time you work; the hypocrisy is strong, here..." he said not getting up from his seat.
"Oh, a penthouse. That's ****ing perfect. Now you'll be flashing your breasts for the financially affluent..." Jason said sharply, and then she agreed that he wasn't his type of guy, and he looked as though he'd just gotten punched in the stomach. But she continued, and he bit his lip, resisting the urge to just storm off. After all, she did seem like she had a point to make, right?
But when she finally got to her point, she stopped short, and it left him flabbergasted when she said that one word. Another stray tear rolled down his face as the word sunk in. She really--
She actually said--
So it was true that--
"You...you did?" he asked, blinking as his eyes locked on hers, taking in her smile and her body language. "R--R--Re...Really?"

His emotions were running wild, cycling mainly between anger and sadness, but resting more consistently on the latter. He stayed sitting in his chair, arms folding across his chest as he looked at her through his glasses, his eyes already becoming quite misty. Jason took a shaky breath, biting his lip a little as he looked at her.
"My sense of smell is closer to that of a dog's than a human's..." he said shakily. "From the moment you walked in I smelled nothing but another man's cologne. While that would explain why you haven't been telling me where you were going...I didn't think it was actually true..." He sighed.
"Then again, I should have known...I mean I never really was your 'preferred type of guy,' was I?" A single tear ran down his cheek.

Jason sat at his desk, eyes peering over his laptop. Part of it was doing actual work, but the other part was research. Lee was gone when he woke up that morning, but he didn't really think anything of it at the time; sometimes people just had things to do, right? So, he'd gotten his coffee, did a little bit of cleaning around the apartment, and then just worked on some mundane tasks on his laptop; he didn't really have any important cases to work on, mostly just idle research.
The canine-shifter didn't know how long it'd been, but a smile spread across his face as the door opened and she walked in. His canine-leaning nose took in the usual scent of her before she even got the door closed. Perfume, coffee, and....wait...His smile dropped as his nose was assaulted by mens' cologne. He bit his lip as he looked at her, his demeanor obviously having shifted.
"I...hi..." he said, not getting up from his spot. "From the stench of cologne I'd say you had a pretty great day so far," he said sharply, a bit of pain laced into his cutting words.

There was a lot one could say about Jay, but one couldn't say that the man gave up easily. In fact, until it was definitive that he didn't have a chance, he stayed focused. (If he'd been that determined about other endeavors in his life, then maybe he would have amounted to more than a merely-local musician by the age of twenty-seven, but that really didn't matter at the moment.) She bought his lie, which was good, but then again there really wasn't a way to fact check right now, and once she did, well...after that it really didn't matter anymore, did it? "New York does seem to be the perfect place for that, especially for mutants these days," he answered with a small grin.
He weighed her words carefully; this woman--whom he realized had yet to give his name; she was quite the tease, it seemed--had quite the sharpened silver tongue. There were uses for that, but first, he had to come out of this battle of wits in one piece. "Well, not every pet is a lapdog, my dear," he said, that Southern charm bleeding through. "Certain types of dogs have no room to be crippled by dependence. Can you imagine if a guard dog or an attack dog needed constant pets? Me though....I'm more of...let's say an abandoned stray. I enjoy attention and affection, sure--who doesn't? But at the same time, I know how to get by without." He took another sip of his drink as he looked her over another good time, letting his icy blue eyes linger a little this time.
He caught the mention of a daughter, and he had to wonder how he always seemed to go for the women with kids. Ah well; that really wasn't any matter. It wasn't like he usually met the children, anyway...

There really was something about her, that despite everything, at the end of the day, he really did love her. He was trying his best to be the best he could for her, and her words just made him smile.
"So...we're actually doing this then?" he asked, a smile forming on his face as he looked into her eyes. He was actually....happy with this. He never really thought he'd be asking someone to live with him, but...here he was.
And as he looked into her eyes, and leaned in for a passionate, loving kiss....

Jay folded his arms across his chest, completely of the wings jutting out of his back, and his tail twitching uncomfortably through the fly of his pants as he tried to make sense of all of this.
"A gargoyle, huh?" he said as he looked behind him at his wings and his tail, really taking this all in. "Cool. But how did this end up happening to me? I mean, I'm a canine shifter...well, usually. It's not working right now..."
Whatever was going on here, he was sure Creeper-Lady had something to do with this. Speaking of which, she was trying to get away, but the real gargoyle had stopped her, and she...didn't know how to turn him back. Great.
"Wait, so you mean to tell me you do this to people all willy-nilly, and don't even know how to change them back? Or even whether or not it's permanent?!?" He flustered a bit as he spoke.
But then, he took a deep breath and turned back to the gargoyle. "Uh....you don't think you can help me get used to this, can you? I mean, if it isn't any trouble. I've grown used to my power, and I'm not sure how to grow accustomed to a new one..."
He glowered at Creeper-Lady. She was lucky she's hot...

Oh the gloves had come off, and Jay never saw the verbal jab she'd hit him with. But this was a game Jay knew all too well, and he didn't even flinch as he took in what she said; and hell, to an extent she was right. Aside from a few flaws in her analogy. "Well," he said politely after a moment. "Saying men are dogs like that is kind of unfair," he paused. "To dogs. Hear me out: dogs can be trained to do whatever you tell them, even to do certain jobs. They protect you, they come to you when you need a friend, and when they run away, you know as long as nothing happens to them, they come back."
He took a sip of his drink, looking at her with a smile. "I guess 'men are cats,' doesn't ring as well, does it?" he added after a second. "Well...for the most part, men are pigs. But the pigs give the Labradors and the Golden Retrievers a bad rap." He gave a smirk and a shrug before turning back to his drink for a moment; his tone wasn't rude, but matter-of-factly with a little bit of a joking air to it.
"Like I said, I'm the new guy," he answered. "Haven't been in New York very long. From a town as small in mind as it is in population down in the South. Like many, I decided to start fresh, make a name for myself elsewhere." Taking a sip from his drink again, he gave her another smile.

Jay had to smile at the blush; with most women, that's how he knew he was doing something right. Or that he was about to end up in a world of trouble. But in this case, he was sure it was the former. Unlike Zoe, Jay knew full well they were still naked; there was never any thought to the contrary.
"Well, all things considered, I think I'd like that even more now," he said with a smirk as he set down his empty plate then finished his coffee. Then, he just sort of leaned back on the couch, not propping his feet on the table, but relaxing nonetheless.

Jay was persistent, but he wasn't a complete jerk; once he got a definite 'no,' he'd back off. But until then, he was going to keep trying. Besides, he had plenty more drinks to put in him and the night was still young. Though Jay wasn't one to give up, he did have some semblance of respect.
He chuckled lightly. "Well, you may think so, but I'm looking at a woman who's drop dead gorgeous," he replied smoothly. She looked him over, and he gladly returned the favor--like he hadn't been doing that the whole time already, but he wasn't about to pass up a legitimate excuse to.
"Kinda funny you mention foxes," he answered with a slight chuckle, "I'm a canine-shifter. Mostly dogs but I've got a wolf and a few foxes. As far as job, I don't really have a set one right now, since I'm new. I just go where I'm sent, learning a bit of everything until I find my place. But when I'm not doing this, I play bass in a band." Sure she likely wasn't referring to his 'legit' job, but the bass was sort of his trump card. When all else fails, pull out the music.
Or show off the shifting, but considering the side effect of that, the shifting was probably best saved for later.

""Well, true. Just means I know how to go with the flow," Jay said with a smirk as he looked over at her while eating his food and sipping on his coffee.
"Well your cooking is amazing, but the show is a nice perk," he replied, smirking as he topped that off with a wink. Sure, this was quite a mess he'd gotten himself in, but he'd figure a way out.
Or maybe he could just find a way to sweep this whole thing under the rug so no one would find out about it. Really that'd be the best way to go, he thought. But for now...he was going to enjoy this.

Sure this had in no way been planned nor foreseen, but planning wasn't how Jay operated. He sort of went with the flow, and whatever happened, happened. Pretty much why he was naked in the apartment of a girl that wasn't his girlfriend, after lying about dumping said girlfriend. But he hoped that was a bridge he never crossed. Besides, what was wrong with a little fun, right?
He didn't even bother getting dressed as he sat down to eat. At this point he figured it'd be pretty much pointless. "Thanks. Probably not as good as yours, but I'd like to think I can hold my own," he said with a smirk as he leaned in and winked before going back to his food.

***Fade to Black***
Jay smirked, sort of slumped on the couch, Zoe next to him. What had started as awkward, really hadn't turned out all that bad. Even if he had to lie to get to this point, he figured he'd deal with the consequences thereof later. Or never, if he had any say in the matter. But as it stood, things were pretty freaking great.
After a few moments, he stood to his feet, planting another kiss on Zoe's lips before making his way to the kitchen and rummaging around. Luckily Zoe kept her kitchen stocked more adequately than he usually did. He began rummaging around, pulling out what ingredients and utensils he'd need. Since he'd been to the apartment a few times anyway, he had a pretty good idea of where everything was.
After a few moments, Jay had everything ready, and the smell of pancakes and sausage filled the apartment. Jay returned to the living room with two plates, setting one in front of Zoe before getting the syrup. Really, he would have preferred bacon, but that really wasn't something you cooked naked.

Jay really did care for Zelda, but old habits died hard, sadly. He liked Zoe, especially at this moment, but he'd never anticipated being a relationship, nor had he foreseen how hard it would be to overcome his own nature. In love or not, Jay was selfish, impulsive, and resourceful. He knew what he wanted, and would stop at very little to get it. Unfortunately right now, what he wanted was Zoe.
She blushed, and he smiled as he pulled back to look at her. Giving her a wink, he pulled her closer, kissing her passionately as he brushed aside all feelings of guilt and worry. It'd only be a problem if he was found out, after all.
