The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jay needed a drink. While the Stagger Inn wasn't really his usual stomping grounds, he was a little farther from home than usual. To say the canine-shifter'd had a rough evening would have been an understatement as he walked into the bar, wearing a dark blue tee shirt that brought out his eyes, a pair of torn blue jeans, though at a close glance, the skinned knee and scratched skin beneath those rips would show that the tears were fresh, and the jeans definitely weren't bought that way. Gym bag slung over his shoulder, he was also sporting a rather nasty red mark on his cheek.
He'd done a job for his...organization. Simple drop, but it didn't quite work out so simply. The job didn't go sideways, per se, seeing as how in the end, everything worked out okay. But it didn't go off without a hitch either, so it was decided that the job definitely went a bit more diagonal than intended. Yeah...definitely diagonal, especially with all that had gone on.
It was nights like this that he missed Khalil. He didn't have many friends in life, but his partner...no, his brother, had been pretty damn close. He wasn't sure what happened, but he knew he hadn't seen the guy in quite some time, and in their line of work, he feared the worst.
After what seemed like an eternity, Jay trudged to the bar, looking around and surveying the area; there were worse places one could go. And it wasn't that busy; while some would see that as a bad thing, to Jay it meant he had a shorter wait time for drinks--and he'd need a lot of those tonight--and less competition for any...company for the evening.
Almost as soon as the sandy blond, blue eyed mutant had sat at the bar, he was slid a small bowl of nuts and pretzels. He looked up at the woman, taking in the sight for a few moments.
"Rum and cola, if you don't mind," he said politely, groaning slightly. "And a small bag of ice, if you can manage," he said with a wince, bringing a hand to his face, slightly nursing the freshly tender skin on his jaw.

She was still confused, from the looks of it, and that didn't help his nerves in the slightest bit as he looked up at her from his position on the floor. And then she finally spoke, and he took a breath, taking her hand and slipping the ring onto her finger before looking at the simple, round piece of metal with the one little jewel in it. Nothing extravagant, but beautiful nonetheless. Much like the way he saw her.
"Yes, Lee. I do wanna marry you. Nothing would make me happier. You've stuck with me for awhile now, and it seems like you wanna be with me for the long haul so...if we're going to pack up and start a new life together...I think we should do it right."

Her face sort of worried him, as did her question. He may have been the professional investigator, but with Lee he may have met his match. "Well, there was one thing we missed," he explained, swallowing a little. He didn't know why he was so nervous. Oh wait. Yes he did.
"That is true, but there is a way that this can be closer to perfect, Lee," he murmured, stepping a little closer to her. "I mean...if you'd want it that way..."
Then, he dropped to a knee, producing a box from his pocket, and opening the box to show a simple, yet beautiful ring he'd bought. "This is what I had to take care of. Will....will you marry me?" He smiled nervously.

Very quietly, Jason slipped into the apartment, looking around to see if he'd made it in successfully. And...he didn't. Inwardly he cursed as Lee was standing face to face with him, and she didn't look too happy. He knew he couldn't tell her where he'd been, at least not yet, but she was looking for an answer and she was looking for one pretty damn quick.
He exhaled a deep breath through his nose; both of them knew he never left like that without telling her, so that was her first clue that something was up. And it being this early meant his coffee hadn't really digested yet and he didn't have that good of a lie prepared; not that he was any good at lying to her anyway.
"I had some things to take care of," he said finally, just leaving it at that. "Nothing too hard, just making sure everything's perfect before we leave, is all."

"I do too," he said with a smile. "I like the idea of that. As long as you come with, I don't really care where we go. Besides, on the other side of the rip, even New York would be a good start, from what I understand," he added, kissing her cheek.
----
It had been maybe a day or two since Gladys sent that fateful text, and the couple had decided to take matters in their own hands. There was a lot of packing and planning to do, but...Jason wasn't home. He hadn't told Lee where he was going, but he managed to slip out while she was asleep and hoped that it wouldn't take that long so he could be back before she woke up, and shed' be none the wiser.
He was up to something, though as it stood, Lee couldn't know what. That was just how it had to be.
But of course, he got stuck in line at the coffee shop, and then his other ordeal took longer than expected. But he could still hope she slept in a little, not that it was likely.
Quietly, he opened the door to his apartment, and he slipped inside, easing the door behind him.
Jay was thinking that this beautiful yet mysterious woman was starting to warm up to him. He caught the smile, and she was seeming to relax a little bit. And then she spoke, and Jay's smile faded. She liked him, he could tell, but something was holding her back. Something was preventing her from taking that final leap.
"Thanks, I understand," he said, disappointed, but understanding. Though at the kiss on the cheek, his smile came back. "Have a good night, alright? It was lovely talking to you," he said sincerely, letting his eyes linger on her figure as she walked away. Hey, a man could dream, right? Besides, he was so close...
And then she went right over to Poseidon. Due to the distance, and the surrounding chatter, even his keen hearing couldn't pick up on what they were saying, but the boss's body language told him enough. He'd just--
Ohhhh shit....
She was kept on a tight leash. And she'd left him to talk to...
Yep. He was pretty sure he'd just tried to go to bed with Poseidon's girl, and having seen a mere taste of what the man was capable of, the shifter was sure his face had gone white as he just sat there holding his drink. Turning around, he downed the rest of his drink as he regained his composure, playing it cool, or at least trying to. Setting his empty glass on the counter, he turned back around to where the temptress without a name had gone and shot Poseidon a glance when he was sure the boss was looking; nothing over the top or extravagant. Merely a look to say 'I'm sorry, I didn't know she was yours.' And a 'Please don't kill me' could have easily been inferred if need be.
Then, he waved for another drink, taking another swig. Maybe in a few moments he'd go find some other beauty to attempt to take home, but right now, maybe sitting alone wasn't such a terrible idea.

It was starting to sink in; she was serious. He was going to pack up all of his things and leave again, start another new life because something went wrong. Again. Only this time, Lee was coming with him. She was the only reason he'd stuck around to even deal with Gladys's blackmail to be honest. But...they'd be together. This, he was okay with.
He listened to her words, and she actually had a good idea. Fresh start in another reality. Gladys would never get them there. They could be happy. Peaceful. "That sounds like a good idea, actually. We won't have to worry about as much. We can be happy. Together. I say let's do it." He smiled, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her.

Jason didn't know why he always had to go straight for his phone like that; his dedication to his work was both a strength and a weakness, he guessed. But as soon as he'd seen the text, he knew he should have just let it stand.
He thought a few moments, trying to clear his head. This was crazy; there was no way he'd do what she was asking, but he couldn't just let her do this to them either, could he?
Taking a deep breath, he looked at Lee, his girlfriend. His girlfriend. The girl that he hadn't realized would be the girl of his dreams, yet there they were. Happy. Together. And here this woman was trying to tear them apart merely because she couldn't hold her own relationship.
"I wouldn't," he answered softly. "But where would we go? I mean if you come with me I'd have no problem starting over....again." He gave a light smile.

Jason smirked as she spoke, this game had actually grown quite amusing to the private detective. He smirked, continuing to kiss her neck as she kept speaking, practically ignoring her suggestions as he turned and lightly pushed her back onto the couch.
And then his phone vibrated, and he sighed because it was likely that it was from work. So he stood to his feet and peeked at it, and his face went white, as it tended to in this situation. His eyes narrowed as he looked down at the phone, who it was from, the message inside. It made his blood run cold, and then boil to a breaking point. This was...too far.
"She's crossed the line this time," Jason said angrily as he passed the phone to Lee. "She wants me to--or she'll..." He shook his head. "I'm not doing that."

"Anything for us to do....?" he asked, looking at her with a fake look of confusion as he pondered over ideas. Not that he needed to, he already knew what they'd both had in mind, he just liked messing with her sometimes. Or...all the time, as it were. "No, I haven't the slightest," he said innocently as his hands slowly slid up her back to her shoulders.
Then, he leaned in and kissed her again, his hands continuing to roam her clothed figure as he kissed her more passionately before pulling back and trailing kisses up and down her neck. "Or maybe....I do have a few..." he whispered in her ear.

Jason stayed asleep as Lee walked in and the door locked behind her, and only stirred slightly when she sat on his lap. When she kissed him, his eyes opened, and his arms wrapped around her as he returned the kiss affectionately, his hand moving to tangle in her hair as a shudder ran up his spine.
When the kiss broke, he pulled back just to look at her, a smile forming on his lips. "Hey hun," he murmured, his arms moving to her back as he pulled her into a hug, which was rather easy to do, considering. "I missed you today, but the good news is I got everything done so I can take tomorrow off," he said with a smile as he leaned in to kiss her cheek.

Jason Fisher had to admit, life was rather amazing these days, and he found himself thinking about it more and more with every passing day. Lee was, in his eyes, perfect, and he knew she was as in love with him as he was with her. Even though they didn't sleep in the same room, due to her mutation, he knew this was his dream come true. Though he still wasn't too keen on her working a job where she had to flirt and lead people on for more money, he could know rest easy, knowing that he was the only one she was coming home with, and the only one that she even thought about in that light anymore.
And it'd been awhile since he'd heard from Gladys. Maybe she'd given up on trying to make his life hell, after all. It was evening, and the sun had long set, the city outside the apartment window still just as bustling as ever. The canine shifter was wearing nothing more than a tank top and a pair of green boxer-briefs, his feet propped up on the coffee table next to his phone. His glasses still on his face, his head was leaned back on the back of the couch as he breathed softly yet steadily. The TV was on, playing some sort of late-night trash, the remote having fallen from his hand onto the couch and then bounced onto the floor.
He'd fallen asleep, as he sometimes did while waiting on Lee to come home from work. He'd had an exceptionally busy day today, but judging by the bank statement on the desk from where he'd cashed a couple of checks, it was not only a well-earned nap, but it'd been a productive day.
A small smile spread across the private investigator's face as the sleeping mutant was having a rather engaging dream, and not the bad kind, either.

"True. And we're both living what we thought was just an unattainable dream," he murmured slightly before they pulled away. He smiled, watching her walk for a moment before he followed, just barely picking up her scent above the smell of the cologne.
He smirked at her question. "What? I can't go with?" he teased as he flashed her a wink. A part of him wondered how he got this far. With a woman he was sure would turn him down, nonetheless. And yet...he was as happy as he'd ever been.

"Meanwhile, I had a pretty good idea. Though you're so much better than what I thought you'd be like, which is saying something," he said softly, a smile spreading across his face. Then....she said she was living a dream, and his smile grew. "You think..." he chuckled, walking over to wrap his arms around her. "I never thought you'd have said yes to the one night, and yet....here we are a few months and an apartment later."
He released her as she spoke again, and he bit his lip. Maybe he used the wrong words, but he didn't think he hurt her feelings. Though that cologne did stink....he wasn't about to tell her that though. Without a word, as she turned for the bathroom, he walked behind her.

"Well, like I'd told you, there was nothing. She's really not my type, anyway," he said with a slight shrug. "I knew for awhile that I'd wanted something like...this. But I didn't think it would happen; I'd thought you'd have turned me away from the beginning. And," he paused, before pointing out matter-of-factly, "You kinda almost did."
Then she asked if she really smelled that much, and his face went red. "I...you don't stink, but...the cologne and man-smell kind of overrides your usual scent, yeah..." he murmured, breaking eye contact for a little bit as his face flushed red and he idly adjusted his glasses.
