The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Fishy
It was getting late, and Jay let out a long sigh as he pocketed what little cash he'd made off of the bar playing that night. It was a last minute gig, and it was obvious that he wasn't the band's first choice, but they really weren't his type of band, either. Just a bunch of snot-nosed punk kids who put more time into getting their hair and makeup done than they did rehearsing. And for his trouble, he got a lousy fifty bucks. Oh well, at least the gig was at a bar.
He strolled up to the bar, sitting the case holding his bass guitar up under a stool, being careful to avoid people--most of them had cleared out so it wasn't really that hard to do--and he slid onto a stool before promptly ordering a beer. "At least the beer's--" he took a sip, "...adequate," he muttered under his breath as he continued sipping at his beer--if it could be called that.
Well, at the very least, things couldn't get much worse. In a few more minutes, it would be a new day anyway. "Might as well keep 'em comin'," he said to the bartender, a young woman who obviously didn't want to be there, but from the looks of the place, not many other people in here wanted to be either. He gave a snort, nursing his beers as he discreetly took his earplugs out, using his superb hearing to see if he could at least pick up any juicy information. It was almost midnight after all, so some of the more...amusing characters should have been rolling in pretty soon. So if nothing else, at least he might get a good story. Or get into a fight, whichever came first.
It was a bright sunny afternoon, and Jay was currently in between jobs (again). It's a wonder I keep my rent paid at this rate, he thought to himself as he walked through the park in his favorite golden retriever shift, with a bag of clothes in his teeth. He reached a tree in a mostly unpopulated area, dug a hole, dropped the bag in, and buried it so he could return to it later. Oftentimes, he wished he could figure out how to shift clothes, even if he could find ways around it.
Once he'd buried it, he trotted away from the spot, tongue lolling out of his mouth as the wind blew gently through his fur, causing his tail to wag. He sometimes wondered what would happen if he just stayed a dog. Lived off of whatever he could find, with no rent, no responsibilities, just...no stress. But for some reason, he always shifted back. Maybe there was just something about wearing clothes? No, but hot showers, warm beds, and cold beers were definitely a plus.
After a few minutes, the large golden retriever dropped, flopping over onto his back and sort of rolling around on the grass. His brain may have still been human, but there was just something about being a dog that just made it so easy to shirk all human stress and responsibilities.

Character
Personality: Jay is a bold yet thoughtful individual. While not shy by any means, he'll carefully consider any situation before acting. He loves a good joke, especially a prank at someone else's expense. He's very crafty, though he prefers to let people think they're the ones in control of the situation. As such, he’s a very patient man and not prone to rushing into things.
He’s a very fun-loving individual, though he’s very slow to let someone in’ and even then, he only lets people in so far because that’s how people get hurt. And if there’s one thing people are good at, it’s hurting other people. So, he treats like a poker game: keep a straight face and a cool head, and by no means should you show all of your cards. Sometimes he feels more at peace when he’s in dog form, and uses this to escape often.
Deep down, Jay loves the simple things: music, running, the gentle night breeze. He doesn’t trust people as a general rule, but the one thing that will turn him from a wary free spirit to a knight in shining armor is if he sees someone being abused or taken advantage of. He doesn’t talk much about it, but he gets really protective, especially if it’s a woman or a child.
He loves the rush of adrenaline, and sometimes likes to cause trouble in general, whether it be picking pockets or chasing people as a dog, whatever he can do to get to them. But in the end, Jay Fisher looks out for Jay Fisher, because he learned a long time ago that no one else will.
Hobbies/ Interests: Music, running, videogames Job or part time job and description: Juggles odd jobs with pick pocketing. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Heights, tight spaces. He fears dying alone and forgotten. Special talents: He's into running, and plays bass guitar
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Neutral. Everything he does has some sort of ulterior motive behind it. In the end, he looks out for himself first.
Mutations
Mutation description: Canine Shifter: Jay can shapeshift into any member of the canine family. Enhanced Senses: In his natural form, his senses of smell and hearing are closer to that of a dog's. Strengths: Shifting allows him to be able to go places within reason without drawing much attention. And sometimes being a dog is more useful. His senses allow him to pick up on things normal humans would miss.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Jay can only shift into a canine that is an appropriate size for its breed. To shift into a canine form, he has to have seen it in person. While shifting is instantaneous, he cannot shift from one canine form to another, and repeated shifting takes a lot of energy. Every form retains his blue eyes, and clothes do not shift.
Any injury Jay sustains transfers to his other forms. Although he can remain in canine form indefinitely, any energy he used will still be expended. (Example, if he shifted into a dog and ran three miles full speed, then shifted back, his human would feel like he just ran three miles.)
Sensitive hearing and smell bring all the drawbacks one would think: loud noises and strong stenches can be really disorienting. Being able to pick up a whisper across a room is great, but it isn’t so great when a jet flies overhead.
Power Growth 10/12/18 More Sensitive Senses: Jay's sense of smell has heightened, allowing him to pinpoint the specific scent of blood and smells he’s familiar with, such as certain people he’s spent a lot of time around. His vision in the dark is considerably better, making him able to identify objects, though not see in great detail in pitch dark.
Canine Instinct: He knows which way North is, and always knows his way home. Also develops a taste for undercooked meat.
Black Dog Shift: Jay now has the ability to shift into what appears to be a black mastiff with piercing yellow eyes. This shift is tied to dark, negative emotions, which trigger a sudden shift that instead of cutely popping out of clothing like Jay’s other shifts, tears them to shreds.
Strengths: Enhanced Senses give him the ability to be more aware of his surroundings.
Instincts keep him from getting lost and may help in certain tracking situations.
Black Dog Is more durable, faster, and stronger than the average canine and would make a useful combat shift.
Weaknesses: While enhanced senses is good, certain bad smells could have an adverse effect. Knowing which way is north and how to get home is good, but only if that’s where you’re trying to go. (So looking for somewhere he’s never been is beyond the reach of this ability)
The Black Dog shift has an aversion to bright lights, and Jay has little control over this form’s feral instincts. Increased durability does not mean invincible, especially if one were to go for the eyes.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: Due to his past with running track, he’s quite athletic, and his stamina is nothing to sneeze at, but his strength is average at best. Fighting Style: No formal training, but his strategy is to create distance and use the environment to his advantage. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Pros: He's unpredictable, and could shift into canine form for advantage or a quick escape. Cons: He's untrained, and not too hard to overpower.
History Of Your Character Jay grew up the only child of Jason and Maria Fisher. His childhood was pretty uneventful, aside from growing up with an abusive father. By the time he was ten, he was a pretty closed off individual, and didn’t have a lot to say to anyone. He never really had any friends, but if everyone was like his father, then maybe that was for the best. He turned to bullying, and loved to pick on his younger cousin; he found this sort of numbed his own pain.
That, and playing with the neighborhood dogs. Something about running with them just made him feel….free for some reason. One night, when Jay was thirteen, his father was in one of his usual rages. Jay blacked out, and he woke up naked on the kitchen floor, with blood all over him and the floor, and he could hear his father on the phone yelling something about his “freakish son who turned into a dog and attacked him.”
After that, his mother divorced his father, and he found himself moving from state to state with her, but she couldn’t hold a job, so they were struggling financially, and they were constantly being evicted and bouncing from place to place. Everywhere he went, he joined the track team, finding a love of running, and when he wasn’t running for the team, he was running in his various dog forms. He’d even went to the zoo, and not long after discovered he could turn into a wolf, but that was one he couldn’t use all of the time.
Shortly after he (barely) graduated high school in New York, his Mom fell ill, and wasn’t expected to make it. One day, while visiting her in the hospital, he’d told her his secret, to which she smiled and said she knew, before dying. The one person he cared about gone, he found himself hurt and on his own, juggling odd jobs and learning to play bass, but unable to stay in a band for very long.
It wasn’t long after that he figured the trick to stealing, often using his canine form to distract people and take what belongings he could get. Now 27, not much has changed; he’s just trying to survive and etch his living any way he can.
Roleplay What’s your OOC alias?: Fishy Where did you learn about this site?: Google, many years ago. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: I'm the RPer formerly known as Ty, Paige, and Manfish. Sample RP: Jay let out a sigh as he looked out of his apartment window, turning the knob on his amp before putting his earplugs in. He looked at the black bass in his hands, letting his fingers dance aggressively over the strings as he let out everything he was feeling that day, on top of the pent-up anger he had every day. After several minutes, he got tired of feeling the floor under his feet vibrate from his neighbor under him hitting it with a broom handle or something, and he was pretty sure someone else was banging on his door. So…he shut everything off, grabbed an old backpack he kept some clothes in, and eased out of the window and down the fire escape.
Carefully hiding the bag behind a dumpster, he shifted into his favorite golden retriever form, and took off running, his long fur rippling in the wind. Every now and then, the sounds of the city would be joined by a howl, which would set other dogs in the city barking. If dogs could smile, this one would have been. Instead, his tongue lolled out of his mouth. This...was freedom. From responsibility, from pain, from...everything.
